• UPK and the Oracle Unified Method can be used to deploy Oracle-Based Business Solutions

  Originally developed to support Oracle's acquisition strategy, the Oracle Unified Method (OUM) defines a common implementation language across all of Oracle's products and technologies. OUM is a flexible, scalable, and evolving body of knowledge that combines existing best practices and field experience with an industry standard framework that includes the latest thinking around agile implementation and cloud computing.    Strong, proven methods are essential to ensuring successful enterprise IT projects both within Oracle and for our customers and partners. OUM provides a collection of repeatable processes that are the basis for agile implementations of Oracle enterprise business solutions. OUM also provides a structure for tracking progress and managing cost and risks. OUM is applicable to any size or type of IT project. While OUM is a plan-based method—including overview material, task and artifact descriptions, and templates—the method is intended to be tailored to support the appropriate level of ceremony (or agility) required for each project. Guidance is provided for identifying the minimum subset of tasks, tailoring the approach, executing iterative and incremental planning, and applying agile techniques, including support for managing projects using Scrum. Supplemental guidance provides specific support for Oracle products, such as UPK. OUM is available to Oracle employees, partners, and customers. Internal Use at Oracle: Employees can download OUM from MyDesktop. OUM Partner Program: OUM is available free of charge to Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Diamond, Platinum, and Gold partners as a benefit of membership. These partners may download OUM from the Oracle Unified Method Knowledge Zone on OPN. OUM Customer Program: The OUM Customer Program allows customers to obtain copies of the method for their internal use by contracting with Oracle for a services engagement of two weeks or longer. Customers who have a signed contract with Oracle and meet the engagement qualification criteria as published on Customer tab of the OUM Website, are permitted to download the current release of OUM for their perpetual use. • Free Updates and Errata for Oracle Linux

  ISO images of the Oracle Linux installation media as well as individual binary RPMs (and the sources) of major and minor releases (Updates) have always been freely available for download, use and distribution, ever since we started the Oracle Linux support program. We're now taking this a step further: in addition to the above, we will now also provide updated packages or errata for free from separate yum repositories on http://public-yum.oracle.com. If you would like to keep your Oracle Linux system up to date, you can now do so by subscribing your system to the respective "_latest" repository for your distribution, e.g. "ol6_latest" for Oracle Linux 6. See the installation instructions on the public yum front page for details on how enable these repositories. If you would like to also receive free updates to the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2, make sure to enable the "[ol6_UEK_latest]" repository as well - updates to the kernel will be made available from this separate channel until it is included in the next set of installation media. Now what does this mean for Oracle Network Support? Getting access to the updates and errata was just one part of the offering – the following benefits will still only be available with an Oracle Linux Support Subscription only: Full indemnification against intellectual property claims.   Long time no talk? So to make up for it, here is something very new – update to WP7 Dev Tools! The Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools January 2011 Update provides bits that you would install on TOP of the current WP7 Dev tools on your machine. If you are just installing the tools for the first time, this update replaces previously released October patch. In fact, it is no longer available as this January 2011 update replaces the patch entirely. What is in this update? TextBox support for Copy&Paste Updated Emulator Image that contains Copy&Paste for your testing There have been performance tweaks for the OS Minor Bugs and Fixes How does it Work? The Copy&Paste extends a existing TextBox control to have this new functionality, There is no current API access to the Clipboard or support for other controls that are not based on TextBox. If I have/Do I need to: A current application in the marketplace/No action is required Have an application that contains a TextBox in a Pivot or Panorama control surface/Text your application in provided emulator Recommendation is to move TextBox controls from directly top of controls that listen to Gesture movement to their own pop-off screens or entire pages as this might interfear with select behavior for Copy&Paste Have controls that do no inherit from TextBox/Such controls will not get new Copy&Paste behavior Note: The update materials, FAQ and Q&A do not answer WHEN the update for the OS will be sent to the phones.  Also to note - this update does NOT update your developer phone to enable Copy&Paste or any other features. • Work at Oracle as a Fresh Student by Ang Sun

  The past months have flown by since I started working at Oracle; but at the same time it feels like I’ve been here forever. I came to Beijing to find a job after I graduated from The University of Southampton with a MSc in Software Engineering. I got an offer the next day after I had an interview with my manager. This new style of working life hasn’t been a problem with me. The atmosphere here is fantastic and everyone is so friendly and easy to talk to. I am the first member in our AIE China Team. We do appreciate those colleagues from Core I/O team who helped us a lot to familiarize ourselves with the new environment. After hire orientation training I got to know many new people from various teams including Middleware, People Soft and Solaris. Also Oracle provides weekly system online training as additional training for those people who need it. The best thing about working at Oracle is that there is a balance between work and rest. It’s good to have a really nice park and green space near the Oracle buildings. Most of us like to walk around the riverside after lunch before we get back to work. I like to grab a cup of latte before discussing issues and the schedule of our projects in a weekly conference call with my US colleagues. It has been great experience; I am working alongside talented colleagues from different countries and nationalities.   If you haven’t already heard the news, the final release of the Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2010 have been released! That’s great news for Silverlight developers and to top it off the crew up at Microsoft even snuck in a few new features including intellisense for styles (a big deal in my opinion) and the ability to easily manipulate Grid rows and columns.  One of the most time consuming (and boring) tasks experienced by developers is also covered with the new “Go To Value Definition” feature that allows you to jump directly to style definitions with ease.  That feature alone is worth the upgrade especially if you’re working with a large application that uses a lot of styles. • Free NOSQL database for use with C# client [closed]

  I've never used NOSQL databases before, but so far it seems like the best data storage solution for my project. I am going to implement a datamining application. The data I would like to mine is thousands of documents which cannot be imported into datamining applications. To make to import easier and faster (than importing thousands of documents) I am planning to import these documents into a NOSQL database first and when import NOSQL database into datamining software. At the very least once I have all the data in NOSQL database I should be able to code simplest datamining logic myself. Am I correct that NOSQL databases allow to creates records of data, but they don't mandate all the records to adhere to the same data schema (same column names/types in a classic table oriended SQL databases)? I think for each document I would create a row/entry/object (not sure what is the correct term is in use in NOSQL world) which would be a string id, few (columns) with unstructured text data, and a dozens of columns mostly of datetime and integer types. From its name NOSQL does not support SQL query syntax, but it support locating the object(row/entry?) by its unique id. Does NOSQL support qyuering objects using property=value syntax? Unfortunately most of free NOSQL db only support Java/C++ clients, which free NOSQL db would you recommend for a C# programmer?

• What GUI tools are available for which DVCS?

  When I worked at Sun, we used a DVC system called Forte SCCS/Teamware, which used the old SCCS file format, but was a true distributed source code revision control system. One nice feature is that it had strong GUI support: You could bringover and putback changes by simply clicking and dragging. It would draw trees/graphs showing how workspaces relate to each other. You also could have a graph view to display a single file's complete history, which might have had several branches and merges. Allowing you to compare any two points. It also had a strong visual merge tool, to let you accept changes from one of two conflicting files. Naturally, many of the current DVCSs have command line support for these operations, but I'm looking for GUI support in order to use this in a lower-level undergraduate course I'll be teaching. I'm not saying the Forte Teamware solution was perfect, but it did seem to be ahead of the curve. Unfortunately, it's not a viable option to use for my class. Question: What support do the current DVCSs have with regards to GUIs? Do any of them work on Windows, and not just Linux? Are they "ready for prime-time" or still works in progress? Are these standalone or built as plug-ins, e.g., for Eclipse? Note: To help keep this discussion focused I'm only interested in GUI tools. And not a meta-discussion if GUI tools should be used in teaching.

  Oracle Solaris 11 was announced last week, and I'm pleased to also announce that Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 is now certified on Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit). This new operating system release represents a culmination of years of hard work by our Solaris engineering group.  It has a number of new and advanced features including simplified deployment and lifecycle management tools, built-in certified virtualization technologies, support on the latest generation SPARC chips, and more. New installations of the E-Business Suite R12 on this platform will require version 12.1.1 or higher and the latest Rapid Install startCD version 12.1.1.13.  For existing 12.1 installations, we have also certified an "in place" OS upgrade or the use of cloning to a target Solaris 11 system. There are also specific requirements to upgrade technology components such as the Oracle Database and Fusion Middleware.  These requirements are noted in the links below.   Hey, I am having a problem with cURL here. My localhost has curl with openssl enabled, and thus my php code works fine. On running phpinfo() I get the following -- curl cURL support enabled cURL Information libcurl/7.19.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.3.3 libidn/1.15 However, on my other office server, curl does not have openssl support enabled.   We're pleased to announce an updated patch set for Oracle Enterprise Content Management 11gR1 PS3 (11.1.1.4.0). Patch Set 3 (PS3) supports additional platforms and applications, and adds several new features to the products. Highlights include: Content Server (repository for UCM, URM & I/PM): New security capabilities, file store provider updates. Desktop Integration Suite: Windows 7 64-bit and Office 2010 (32 & 64-bit) support and new "Recent Content Items" menu. Universal Content Management (UCM): Site Studio Manager for Site Studio for External Applications, new template management options and ability to run Site Studio & Site Studio for External Applications 11g components on Content Server 10gR3. Imaging and Process Management (I/PM): Now certified with Oracle Business Process Management (BPM) 11g, Oracle Single Sign On (OSSO) 10g and Oracle Access Manager (OAM) 10g, export search results to Microsoft Excel.
