  • Need some help setting up subdomains for my site

    I'm setting up my website and want to have it so all subdomain requests are rewritten to the appropriate subdirectory. For example http://projects.karimsa.net/ -> http://karimsa.net/projects/ But I want to use the Apache rewrite mod to do this so that the URL in the browser stays the same. Here is what my config looks like at the moment: ## rewrite subdomains RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(.*).karimsa.net RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.karimsa.net [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://karimsa.net/%1/$1 [R=301,L] And my CNAME records on 'projects.karimsa.net': Domain TTL Data Type projects.karimsa.net 14400 karimsa.net CNAME Theoretically, I feel this should work. But when I go to the URL, it gives me a server misconfiguration error, my provider's default webpage. What I should see is the index.php under /projects/. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading. Addition: I realized I forgot to mention some of the problem. The domain 'karimsa.net' is parked at 'karimsa.x10.mx'. If I set up the same configuration on 'projects.karimsa.x10.mx', the rewrite and CNAME work. But on the parked domain I still get the default webpage.

    Every time i updat my website system UI\Jquery. Users complain that things are not working for them and that they have bugs. Users are internet\computer dummies so they dont know how to clear the coockies or the cache of the browser, so i need to connect to each one of their computers and do it by myself. I spend lots off hours doing it and they always complain. Some of the useres use Chrome, some Firefox. Googled and found no solution for this, Is there any client code operation that will command the browser to clrear its cache or even pop up browser window wich will ask user to confirm the clear?

  • I can't find the homepage for my ASP.NET MVC site :(

    Hi folks, really simple question here. when I remove the default route, I returns an empty page to the browser :- routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); Now before everyone starts shouting "that's because that's the default route to access all action methods, etc.." .. i know that. My question is - what code / routes does the default framework try and call .. which makes that Default Route get used/kick in? Why? I don't wish to make that my default route regex (don't ask why - this is some R&D) but I still need the main home page .. ie. Home/Index . If i try and just add that route, it doesn't get called and an empty page is returned. So -- what does the framework try and call when a user doesn't provide any urls? It's like there's some secret default document stuff set up? Cheers :)

  • Integrating jQuery autocomplete with Google site search

    I have a bit of an odd situation. I have to implement search on a public facing website -but, that search must be able to search both web pages and have an autocomplete/suggestion functionality that comes from a list of terms that are in a DB table. So, I'm wondering a couple things: 1) should I be looking at Google search and jQuery autocomplete? 2) is there something else I should be looking at instead? 3) if this is the right path to be heading down are the enough pointers on implementation? The crux of my problem is that the terms that I need to use for the autocomplete/suggest functionality reside within a database and not on the webpages. So, I thought Google would be appropriate for search the webpages and that I could sort of fill in the blanks so to speak with these terms from the DB. I'm going to say that there are roughly 20-40,000 terms or so that need autocomplete. But that is really just a very rough guess -it could be less. I'm open to ideas and not really married to any particular solution. However, I will admit to liking the ideas of offloading the search to Google. I hear they have a good algorithm ;) Any ideas, thoughts, or leads are greatly appreciated!

  • How to implement an EventHandler to update controls

    May I ask for help with the following? I am attempting to connect and control three pieces of household electronic equipment by computer through a GlobalCache GC-100 and iTach. As you will see in the following code, I created a class-instance of GlobalCacheAdapter that communicates with each piece of equipment. Although the code seems to work well in controlling the equipment, I am having trouble updating controls with the feedback from the equipment. The procedure "ReaderThreadProc" captures the feedback; however I don't know how to update the associated TextBox with the feedback. I believe that I need to create an EventHandler to notify the TextBox of the available update; however I am uncertain as to how an EventHandler like this would be implemented.   • Unable to update the EntitySet because it has a DefiningQuery and no &lt;UpdateFunction&gt; element

    When working with ADO.NET Entity Data Model, its often common that we generate entity schema for more than a single table from our Database.  With Entity Model generation automated with Visual Studio support, it becomes even tempting to create and work entity models to achieve an object mapping relationship. One of the errors that you might hit while trying to update an entity set either programmatically using context.SaveChanges or while using the automatic insert/update code generated by GridView etc., is “Unable to update the EntitySet <EntityName> because it has a DefiningQuery and no <UpdateFunction> element exists in the <ModificationFunctionMapping> element to support the current operation” While the description is pretty lengthy, the immediate thing that would come to our mind is to open our the entity model generated code and see if you can update it accordingly. However, the first thing to check if that, if the Entity Set is generated from a table, whether the Table defines a primary key.  Most of the times, we create tables with primary keys.  But some reference tables and tables which don’t have a primary key cannot be updated using the context of Entity and hence it would throw this error.  Unless it is a View, in which case, the default model is read-only, most of the times the above error occurs since there is no primary key defined in the table. There are other reasons why this error could popup which I am not going into for the sake of simplicity of the post.  If you find something new, please feel free to share it in comments.   • Slower site with the *same* configuration than a mirror copy…?

    I´ve got this Drupal site (ligadelconsorcista.org) that I have to move it from one server to another. The reason was that my older host even when it was pretty decent, it started a couple of months now to have many short downtimes, wich drove me crazy. The thing is that I´ve made a sort of mirror copy of the site: I´ve copied all the files exactly the same, and after that I´ve imported the database. The problem is that the new site connects much slower than my old hosting! (the new one is mediatemple) I´ve contacted their support and they tell me that there are several factors that can contribute to that... but that has nothing to do with their hosting service. The thing is that I don´t even know where to start looking for the problem. Notes: The new configuration is the same that the one I had with the older hosting account. Today I´ve set an account with cloudflare´s CDN to try to solve the problem. Even if the CDN is configured ok (I´ve asked their help desk) it won´t add any performance improvement. Any clues of what may I do about this? Thanks!!

I'm trying to upload a file called 'Testaråäö.txt' via the Django admin app. I'm running Django 1.3.1 with Gunicorn 0.13.4 and Nginx 0.7.6.7 on a Debian 6 server. Database is PostgreSQL 8.4.9. Other Unicode data is saved to the database with no problem, so I guess the problem must be with the filesystem somehow. I've set http { charset utf-8; } in my nginx.conf. LC_ALL and LANG is set to 'sv_SE.UTF-8'. Running 'locale' verifies this. I even tried setting LC_ALL and LANG in my nginx init script just to make sure locale is set properly. I was searching a site which can tell the income source details for European developer (specially for Belgium). But mostly not a single website exist who tells the true. My situation: As a programmer myself in one company i use all my knowledge, 20++ hours a day (office , home, office, home) because every-time its challenge/complex/stress/over-time feature-requests, at the end of the year in Europe i was getting in total not even the lowest amount shown here (UK pound vs Euro + high-tech most of the time they use + speed in development): http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/ In one company i have to use my best performance knowledge for whole year with: C, Java, PHP (Zend Framework, Cakephp), BASH, MySQL/DB2, Linux/Unix, Javascript, Dojo, JQuery, Css, Html, Xml. Company wants to pay lesser but always it has to be perfect and it has to be solid gold and diamond like quality. And the total amount in Europe is not sufficient for me if i compare with other countries and living cost in Europe including taxes. Is there any developers/community site where we can see by country, zone what is minimum to maximum income source getting offered to the developers? So that some developers who is in troubles, they can shout and speak up louder with those references?

  • Spam bot constantly hitting our site 800-1,000 times a day. Causing loss in sales

    For the past 5 months our site has been receiving hits from these 4 sites below; sheratonbd.com newsheraton.com newsheration.com newsheratonltd.com Typically the exact url they come from looks something like this; http://www.newsheraton.com/ClickEarnArea.aspx?loginsession_expiredlogin=85 The spam bot goes to our homepage and stays there for about 1 min and then exist. Luckily we have some pretty beefy servers so it hasn't even come close to overloading our servers yet. Last month I started blocking the IP address's of the spam bots but they seem to keep getting new ones everyday. So far I have blocked over 200 IP address's, below are a few of the ones I have blocked. They all come from Bangladesh. 58.97.238.214 58.97.149.132 180.234.109.108 180.149.31.221 117.18.231.5 117.18.231.12 Since this has been going on for the past 5 months our real site traffic has started to drop, and everyday our orders get lower and lower. Also since these spam bots simply go to our homepage and then leave our bounce rate in analytics has sky rocketed. My questions are; Is it possible that these spam bots are affecting our SEO? 60% of our orders come from natural search, and since this whole thing has started orders have slowly been dropping. What would be the reason someone would want to waste resources in doing this to our site? IP's aren't free and either are domain names, what would be the goal in doing this to us? We have google adwords but don't advertise on extended networks nor advertise in Bangladesh since we don't ship there so they are not making money on adsense. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? What did you do and what was the final out come?

  • How to fix this navigation issue in my site?

    First off I use webs.com for the creation of my site. I have a very basic layout. List of links of the left and content on the right with a heading up top. Now in my list of links every link is an article that I wrote, I have about 25 links going down the left hand side of my site. Problem is when I try out new themes that support horizontal navigation as opposed to vertical navigation I get either a messy overflow of links Or a link called "more" which lists the rest of the articles in a drop down-list across my site. What I wish I had was a simple horizontal navigation like" "home, about, articles" and when the user clicks on articles it would then bring them to a page containing all my articles there. I would prefer it to be in a table like display. That way is not a long list. Anyways any ideas on how I can fix this issue im having? Please let me know if you need more information.

  • Which frontend framework/library should I learn to enhance an existing site? [on hold]

    I have a large site that I've coded by hand over the last couple of years. It's a sports results service, and allows users to view their results, compare themselves to others, buy photographs, that sort of thing. The code base is fairly substantial, and scarily uses no frameworks or libraries. It's a PHP backend, and a clean & compact frontend. I use the Highcharts library, but other than that all of the JS is my own. I'm not a fan of bulk, even if it is CDN-hosted and heavily cachable. Maybe I need to change my outlook on this? I'm wanting to make some significant changes to the site now, and it seems an appropriate time to enhance my skillset by learning AngularJS, or something else of that ilk. A large part of the site is tables of data, and as just one example of the sort of thing I want to achieve, I'd like to let users add/remove/sort columns better than they currently can. Are any of the various frameworks/libraries out there more suitable to shoehorning into an existing project?

  • Appcache and jquery mobile on a CMS powered site?

    Has anyone used the cache manifest to make a CMS site work offline? I've made a demo with static html files which seems to work fine, so I'm assuming it wouldn't be too hard to achieve the same thing with a CMS. The way that you tell browsers that files have changed (and so need to be downloaded again) is by adding a comment to the cache manifest file so its byte size changes. I'm not quite sure how to do this with a CMS, but maybe some sort of server cron could run periodically? Personally I'm more interested in having a site that works offline rather than achieving ideal performance, so if the file was modified every hour rather than when content actually changed that would be fine for me. If anyone has used appcache with a CMS, has anyone done so with jquery mobile at the same time? What I'm after is a fully native feel to a site that's accessible offline, in other words I want to mimic a native App. My static demo does this perfectly with jquery mobile, so again I would have thought this would be achievable in a CMS.

  • Is it okay to just add a page or two PHP page to add some functionality to a Drupal site?

    I'm not familiar with Drupal, really. I can dig around the admin interface and navigate the directories and find the files that I need to just fine as well. What I'm really not familiar with is adding modules or extending modules. The site currently takes an order and sets up recurring payments through Ubercart and uses Authorize.net as a gateway. Right now, when a payment fails, a single e-mail gets sent out to the admin. We'd like to extend it to send an e-mail to the user and let them change their payment information through another page on the site. Authorize has a service called Silent Post URL that basically just posts a carbon copy in XML to whatever URL you give it. We'd like to accept that XML, deserialize it, parse the data, send a notice to the user and give them the page for updating their information. So, I guess it'll be two PHP pages. One for the XML API call from Authorize.net, and then one for the page for the users' to update their payment information. Could I just create two simple pages each handling their own tasks, or should I check out properly extending a module? If it's appropriate for me to write up the pages and not have to hook them into the module, what would be the best way to handle setting up what needs to get done? (The most experience I've had with extending a PHP site has been hacking away at someone else' poorly constructed, custom framework, so if anyone has any good resources perhaps on PHP best practices that they could share through a PM or a comment, I'd appreciate It) (Also, I'm still getting the hang of Stack Exchange, so if this isn't appropriate please let me know.
