  • Web site aggregation with twitter widget SSL issue

    Hello! I'm seeking for solution how to isolate widget included by partial to main site. Issue appear when user access site with https. Ie 6,7 shows security confirmation dialog (part of website resources are not in secure zone). First of all I download twitter widget on our side, also I download all CSS and pictures. Then I patched widget JS to point onto downloaded resources. But still has not luck with security warning :( I guess the reason of this issue is AJAX request to twitter, but there is no idea how to sole it. (Just to create some kind of proxy on our side).   • Am I under risk of CSRF attacks in a POST form that doesn't require the user to be logged in?

    I'm probably being a total noob here, but I'm still uncertain about what a CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) attack is exactly. So lets look at three situations... 1) I have a POST form that I use to edit data on my site. I want this data to be edited only by users that are logged in. 2) I have a site, which can be used by both users who are logged in as well as guests. Parts of the site are for logged in users only, but there are also POST forms that can be used by all users - anonymous and not (for example a standard contact form). Should the contact form be safeguarded against CSRF attacks? 3) I have a site which doesn't have an authentication system at all (well, perhaps that's unrealistic, so lets say it has an admin site which is separate from the rest of it and the admin part is properly safeguarded). The main part of the site is only used by anonymous users. Do the POST forms on it need to be safeguarded? In the case of 1) the answer is clearly yes. But in the case of 2 and 3 I don't know (and is the difference between 2 and 3 even significant?).

  • Open source alternative to WebEx WebOffice?

    I have a client who has been using WebOffice (from WebEx) for a variety of tasks within their small organization. The problem is that they only really need a small subset of the features WebOffice provides (Contact list, Database, and Document Storage). They've asked me to develop a website focused on these three features with the rationalization that this should be more cost-effective, since they currently aren't using many of the features of WebOffice they pay for. What are some open-source alternatives that I could implement for them? Sharepoint sounds like it would be too bloated and Google Apps may not be as collaborative as they would like.

    I have a client who wants their wordpress and google apps user accounts accessible using SSO, ie if they log in on one app domain google.client.com they will be logged into wordpress.client.com too without extra steps. The same LDAP directory will be used to do backend authentication for both systems. Is it possible to setup SSO for LDAP-backed webapps?

    I'm posting this on behalf of a co-worker. He gets a "The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel" error while using a WebRequest object to make an HTTPS request. Th funny thing is that this only happens after a while, and is temporarily fixed when the application is restarted, which suggests that something is being filled to capacity or something. Has anyone seen this kind of thing before?

    I have no problem executing a cgi file under the normal url like this: http://www.myhost.com/mydir/cgi-bin/test.cgi However when I tried to embedd it into HTML file (called index.html) like this: <HTML> <BODY> <P>Here's the output from my program: <FORM ACTION="/var/www/mydir/cgi-bin/test.cgi" METHOD=POST> </FORM> </P> </BODY> </HTML> The CGI doesn't get executed when I do: http://www.myhost.com/mydir/index.html The CGI file (test.cgi) simply looks like this: #!/usr/bin/perl -wT use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser); print "Test cgi!\n"; What's the right way to do it?

  • Web page width on LG mobile phone

    Hi I'm trying to develop a site for mobile phones. At the moment it seems to work on iphone and android htc desire and an n95. When I try it on an LG renoir instead of the page fitting the width of the screen the page displays at least twice as wide as it should meaning you can scroll left and right. Has anyone come across this before, or knows how to stop it. Warm regards

  • Web/HTML: how do referrer work technically?

    I don't understand how comes webserver and trackers like Google Analytics are able to track referrals. Is it part of HTTP? Is it some (un)specified behavior of the browsers? Apparently everytime you click on a link on a webpage, the original webpage is passed along the request. What is the exact mechanism behind that? Is it specified by some spec? I've read a few docs and I've played with my own Tomcat server and my own Google Analytics account, but I don't understand how the "magic" happens. Bonus (totally related) question: if, on my own website (served by Tomcat), I put a link to another site, does the other site see my website as the "referrer" without me doing anything special in Tomcat?

  • How do I configure IIS so my Web.config is determined by URL?

    I am running a test rig with IIS6 serving an ASP.NET (and Sharepoint) web site. We have several clients, and so we have custom root Web.config files for each client. For this test rig, I want to just serve straight from the Trunk of our source control. However, I'd like to be able to select different root Web.config files based on the URL (or port or whatever) I use to access the site, so I can just use one checkout of the source and run all the sites with their appropriate settings. Is this possible?

I wonder if there are any best practices on what pieces of information should be collected (like, IP, User Agent, etc.) and how should these logs be stored. There are three ways Upload to my account in public, private or protected mode Upload to department account in public, private or protected mode Upload to organization account in public, private or protected mode where public is visible to anyone, private to the group or person only and protected to anyone in the organization. All the files for an organization are stored in a directory say, /files/<organizationId>/, on file server like files +-- 234809 | +img1.jpg | +doc1.pdf +-- 808234 | +doc2.pdf I am storing file-path and privacy level in DB. So, I can control whether to show link to a file URL to an user -- on a given page. The problem is, I do not have any control over file's URL... so, if some one types the URL to img1.jpg in his browser's address bar, there is no way to know whether a logged in user is eligible to see img1.jpg. Specifically, being able to see who else is working on the document and what they are changing in real time. Something like an embedded etherpad. Are there any good solutions out in the wild? Im sure building something like this would be a significant project.

    I'm creating a CloudFormation Stack that will install and start a service on a Windows Instance. I've figured out how to install the service, but how do I start the service using cfn-init? The examples seem to all use linux, as there is a reference to "sysvinit" How do I structure AWS::CloudFormation::Init so that cfn-init will start windows services after installing them? Do I leave in the sysvinit, replace it with something else, take it out? ps: I'm referring to how to start services by providing information to AWS::CloudFormation::Init.services. Also, It would be nice to know how "packages" work for windows. AWS's announcemnet says that packages are supported on Windows but there is no Windows specific documentation

  • MVC design question for forms

    Hi, I'm developing an app which has a large amount of related form data to be handled. I'm using a MVC structure and all of the related data is represented in my models, along with the handling of data validation from form submissions. I'm looking for some advice on a good way to approach laying out my controllers - basically I will have a huge form which will be broken down into manageable categories (similar to a credit card app) where the user progresses through each stage/category filling out the answers. All of these form categories are related to the main relation/object, but not to each other. Does it make more sense to have each subform/category as a method in the main controller class (which will make that one controller fairly massive), or would it be better to break each category into a subclass of the main controller? It may be just for neatness that the second approach is better, but I'm struggling to see much of a difference between either creating a new method for each category (which communicates with the model and outputs errors/success) or creating a new controller to handle the same functionality. But when the pages renders the value of the email field is exactly as it was entered originally. Is there a way of clearing this field once and event has triggered? Cheers Dave

  • best way to switch between secure and unsecure connection without bugging the user

    The problem I am trying to tackle is simple. I have two pages - the first is a registration page, I take in a few fields from the user, once they submit it takes them to another page that processes the data, stores it to a database, and if successful, gives a confirmation message. Here is my issue - the data from the user is sensitive - as in, I'm using an https connection to ensure no eavesdropping. After that is sent to the database, I'd like on the confirmation page to do some nifty things like Google Maps navigation (this is for a time reservation application). The problem is by using the Google Maps api, I'd be linking to items through a unsecure source, which in turn prompts the user with a nasty warning message. I've browsed around, Google has an alternative to enterprise clients, but it costs $10,000 a year. What I am hoping is to find a workaround - use a secure connection to take in the data, and after it is processed, bring them to a page that isn't secure and allows me to utilize the Google Maps API. If any of you have a Netflix account you can see exactly what I would like to do when you sign-in, it is a secure page, which then takes you to your account / queue, on an unsecure page. Any suggestions? Thanks!
