• How can Automator or Applescript rotate 500,000 images in folders and subfolders?

  I have very specific question. I've got 500,000 images that sit in 98 subfolders. Some of the subfolders contain 25,000 images. Is there any script/automator workflow that I can use? I was trying to create a workflow: Ask for Finder Items Get Folder Contents (tick repeat for each subfolder found) Rotate images It works OK, but only for these folders where there is less than 4,096 files: I normally receive following error message: Rotate images failed - 1 error too many arguments (12019) -- limit is 4096 Is there any way to increase this limit or create completely different apple script? I really hope that someone will help me with this one.

• Should I use DATE and TIME as fields rather than DATETIME

  I have a project on going for a TV guide, called mytvguide in the database - I use PHPMyAdmin. This is the structure for one table, which is called tvshow1: Field Type channel varchar(255) date date No airdate time No expiration time No episode varchar(255) setreminder varchar(255) but am not sure how to get DATE, TIME to work with the pagination script (below is the script, which works for the version with DATETIME): http://pastebin.com/6S1ejAFJ However, although the DATETIME one works - it shows programmes that air on the day itself like this: Programme 1 showing on Channel 1 2:35pm "Episode 2" Set Reminder Programme 1 showing on Channel 1 May 26th - 12:50pm "Episode 3" Set Reminder Programme 1 showing on Channel 1 May 26th - 5:55pm "Episode 3" Set Reminder but I'm not quite sure how to replicate that for the fields that use DATE, TIME functions as seen above. Any advice on this is appreciated, thanks!

• Windows 8 Google Contacts Sync doesn't sync custom fields

  I installed Windows 8 Pro a couple days ago. In the in-built "People" app, since there were options to sync contacts with several third party services like Facebook, Linkedin etc., I wanted to sync my Google contacts to the People app. The sync was successful and all my contacts migrated properly. However, the age old problem of custom fields not syncing between Google/Apple/Windows apps is still present. If a field label in my Google contacts is 'iPhone', it doesn't sync! Nor do any other custom fields except 'home' or 'work' with numbers. Is there a solution to this or any other workaround?

• KVM Switch for a mac and a Windows (XP or 7) machine to share VDU

  Have a MacPro (snow leopard) connected to an (windows standard) Asus 25" monitor via a DVI--VGA adapter. Now the boss wants me to work from home, so I want to share my Asus display with a Windows XP laptop. No doubt once my wife sees this, she will want to do the same thing, but with a Windows 7 laptop. So what I would like, I think, is your recommendations for a KVM switch (or better solution) that allows the Mac and a (windows 7 or windows xp) laptop to share the Asus display. Bonus marks if they can share Apple keyboard and magic mouse, but am quite happy to use separate mouse keyboards. The MacPro is the one that is always connected, the laptops come and go. Any ideas?   I have tried all alternatives and resources that I found on internet to achieve to change screen resolution in my MacOS X guest. I have the latest VirtualBox version (4.1.22) and I have MacOS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard running in a vm guest. • iPhone game center can't create sandbox account

  Whenever I try to create an account on the simulator or device, I get a message "game center account services are currently unavailable. Please try again later." Furthermore, I have never been able to sign in to the game center app on the simulator. Interestingly, if I reset my device with iTunes, I can then log in to the Game Center app with my regular apple id. But whenever if I log out, then try to create a sandbox account for an app I am developing, it always fails as described above. Any suggestions?

• Display file/folder/drive names in full on the desktop

  In Mac OS X, when the text for a desktop icon is particularly long, it's displayed with an ellipsis: How do I configure whatever I'm supposed to configure (Finder?) to display that and all text in full? (No ellipses, please!) Edit: I do know that you can change the icon/text/grid size to allow for more text, but I don't necessarily want to change those settings. I want to change how Apple displays the text. That is, I want it to display either as one long string (which will run into other strings if two long file/folder names are next to each other, they will appear to overlap) or word-wrapped according to the size of the grid.

• Cannot access to my app's dashboard (iTunes Connect)

I'am able to connect me to iTunes Connect and to access the "manage my Apps" section but when I select a specific app I get the following message: Unable to Process Request Your request could not be processed. For additional help, send an email to [email protected] I have deleted cookies and data navigation in Safari, tried with chrome and fierfox: nothing. • HTTP Live Streaming Broadcast

  I'm designing an app for streaming video from a device (e.g. iPhone) via a server to one or more devices and have been researching Apples HTTP Live Streaming protocol. One thing that isn't clear is whether it is possible to stream live video (with audio) to the server and then have it streamed simultaneously in real time to the client devices. From reading the documentation and technical notes from Apple it seems like the index file needs to be created before the segmented video files can be served to a client. Is this right? If so maybe HTTP Live Streaming isn't suitable in this case, what other technologies or software should I consider? Thanks

• Why hasn't anyone made a way for TimeMachine to wirelessly backup to Amazon S3?

  Seriously. I'm looking at you, Apple. If TimeMachine is supposed to be 'simple backup that just works' why is it impossible to backup into my S3 filespace? Why hasn't some 3rd party developer (JungleDrive???) made it so that TimeMachine will be OK with backing up to amazon s3 storage? It just seems like the most convenient, robust answer. I'd gladly pay the $20-25 a month for complete, unlosable backups that I can sync with wirelessly on a proper scheme.

• What is the @ sign on the end of file permission on terminal?

  I have a sound file in my app that the iPhone does not play. After checking other problems I checked the file permission in terminal. What I can see is that the file permission of this file has a- @ at the end of it. I don't know if that is the problem but this is the only difference from the other sound files that plays fine. What is this sign ? Could it cause a problem ? • Corrupted files, hard drive test?

  Hi guys, I'm currently on a macbook with a 1TB external hard drive connected trough a USB hub wich is connected on my macbook. The problem is, my disk, wich is partitioned in 2 (one HFS+ and one NTFS) keeps getting corrupted, recently it was my HFS+ partition, I could not repair it using the Apple's Disk utility, but was able to backup my files. Is it synonym that my hard drive is failing? Is it because of my USB hub? I also keep all my iTunes library on my external HD (HFS+ partition), and did a lot of transfer lately, adding files, removing etc. the last time, my partition got corrupted after a lot of deleted items. If anybody has an idea of what to check first, what could cause the problem, I would appreciate it :) Thanks!

  Kernel 3.5 introduces: This release includes a driver for using an IEEE-1394 connection as a SCSI transport. This enables to expose SCSI devices to other nodes on the Firewire bus, for example hard disk drives. It's a similar functionality to Firewire Target Disk Mode on many Apple computers. This release also adds a usb-gadget driver that does the same with USB. The driver supports two USB protocols are supported that is BBB or BOT (Bulk Only Transport) and UAS (USB Attached SCSI).   Hey Guys, I'm just beginning to play with the Twitter Streaming API. If I specify $sc-setTrack(array('just bought from')); This will correctly pull only tweets that have all 3 keywords - but doesn't maintain the order. 1) I want the keywords to appear in the same order like "I just bought apple from itunes" but the above also returns tweets like "I bought some apples and just removed them from the bag" 2) Is there a way to specify the exact words say "NBA basketball" with nothing in between - in the sense I dont want tweets like this to be returned Watching basketball on NBA tv I just want tweets which contain the exact phrase to be returned like I love watching NBA basketball 3) Also is there a way to specify negative keywords Any tips if this is possible. • how to save state of dynamically created editTexts

  I'm stuck at how to save the state of my EditTexts on screen orientation. Currently if text is inputted into the EditTexts and the screen is orientated, the fields are wiped (as expected). I am already calling onSaveInstanceState and saving a String, but I have no clue on how to save the EditTexts which are created in code and then retrieve them and add them to the EditTexts when redrawing the activity. • How can I change the default keyboard layout in Ubuntu 10.10?

  Ubuntu keeps detecting my keyboard layout as Romanian. It almost always does this on a reboot and some times on waking from sleep. Some times it just randomly changes back to Romanian while the computer is on. I always set it back to "USA" in the keyboard preferences and delete the Romanian layout. What files configure this in Ubuntu? I looked in xorg.conf and did not find any keyboard settings. How can I set this to USA permanently? I have a laptop with a typical US layout built in keyboard and I also have an apple keyboard that is also US layout connected via USB. I have run other distributions on this same setup before and never had this happen.

• Allow Internet Access with Default Gateway on Windows 7 VPN Server

  I have a Windows 7 box at home (which I'll refer to as Home-VPN) that runs a simple PPTP VPN server. I have a range of 2 IP address (192.168.1.10-192.168.1.11) to give out, although the server is only able to give out one concurrent connection. Ports 1723 & 47 are correctly forwarded to the server. IPv6 is disabled on both Home-VPN and the client. I setup Home-VPN just like this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s5JxMG06L4 I can connect to it just fine but I can't access the Internet when connected to Home-VPN, all outside web servers (eg. google.com, mozilla.org, apple.com) are unreachable. I know I can uncheck "Use Default Gateway on Remote Servers" on the client side under IPv4 settings but that will route all my traffic through my current connection, rather than through the VPN, defeating the purpose of said VPN. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

• Access synced notes from iPhone on Windows other than through Mail/Outlook?

  I see from the iPhone how to page that synced notes on Windows appear in MS Mail or Outlook/Outlook Express. I don't use any of these programs. Can I access the iPhone notes some other way? I don't see indication on Apple's site that such a thing is possible. I would like to do this without a 3rd party iPhone application, and I'd really like to avoid MS Mail/Outlook. For what it's worth, this is for my wife and she's using Windows. I sync my iPhone with a Mac. She's loathe to use a bunch of different programs.

• Transfer disk image to larger/smaller disk

  I need to switch the hard drive on a 2006 iMac to a new SSD. I don't have the original installation CDs. I know I can order CDs from Apple, but this costs money. Someone told me it's possible to rip the image of the old drive and transfer to the new drive. If so, does the size of the new drive have to be exactly the same as the old? If not, my questions are: Is it possible to "stretch" the image from 120 MB disk to a 256 MB disk (numbers are examples)? If so, what is the command line for this? Likewise, is it possible to "shrink" an image from a larger disk (eg. 256 MB) to a smaller disk (eg. 120 MB), provided that the actual space used on the disk does not exceed 120 MB? How do you do this on the command line?

• 100% CPU in QuickTime H.264 decoder on Windows on Win7, except when using XP compat. mode

  I have a Windows program that uses the Apple QuickTime API to play video. On Windows 7, CPU usage is 100% on one core, which I believe is why the playback is choppy. If I turn on XP compatibility mode for this program, the CPU usage is around 20% of one core, and playback is normal. Using a profiling tool called Very Sleepy (http://www.codersnotes.com/sleepy), I was able to narrow down the high CPU usage to a function in the QuickTime H.264 decoder called JVTCompComponentDispatch. I can't imagine why there would be a difference in CPU usage when XP compatibility mode is turned off or on. Any ideas?

• Synced audio ouput on multiple machines? VLC? hardware solutions?

  I'm wondering if there is any software or hardware solutions to synced audio or audio and video across multiple computers or devices on a network. I've seen Sonos, and it might be a good solution, but it's also a very expensive solution. I'd like to be able to play something with realtime audio output on one PC, but hear it on speakers throughout the house, being it the home theater receiver, or another computer in another room. I saw a solution using the apple iport express, but the latency was unacceptable for anything other than just music. I'd like to avoid running audio wires with baluns to a bunch of amplifiers scattered all over the place when I have cat5 run everywhere. Is anyone familiar with using this kind of process for whole home audio? The latency is a big deal for me, if I've got video attached to the sound (e.g. watching a hockey game)

Unfortunately this article is for Macs and I use Windows. The article mentions 3 jobs that need to be completed.' A) - pointing all clients to the location of the Library. This is understandable and I can replicate using windows clients. B) Universal Library Set-up. This mentions holing the option key and double click iTunes icon. This is so you can create the index at a specific location C) Point clients to index. Again this mentions Option double click. What is the Windows equivalent to option double click iTunes?
