• How to specify the left, right, or title View button in XIB

  I do not want to create a custom navigation bar. I am pushing a UIViewController and I want to customize how the navigation bar looks for that UIViewController In story board, we just specify the segue and a nav bar show up on the screen. We just drag and drop UIBarItem to the left and right. In XIB, the navigationBar simply doesn't show up. I can add navigation Item but the one I added is ignored. I've heard that there used to be an outlet called navigationItem but it's deprecated for reason I do not know. I can add UINavigationBar, however that would be adding my own custom bar. I want the navBar that's provided by UINavigationController.

• Watir question regarding selecting a hidden dropdown.

  Hi, I have two dropdowns, the second dropdown does not show until a choice is made from the first one. Using watir, i can select the first dropdown, and when i watch it, the second one becomes active, but it cannot select it. i just tried the regular select_list using name and id. • eclipse wont include/identify user .h files and .o files

  i'm new to eclipse CDT, and try to use an existing .o file that was supplied with the proper .h file. eclipse just wont include it in the compilation process. i tryed drag&drop to the eclipse project browser, and the files did show there, but no use, still "No such file: No such file or directory". i tryed defining the .o file in the: project properties tool settings MinGW C Linker Miscellaneous other objects. didn't work either. as for the header file, i did try a workaround: created a new file in the project and named it after the file i want to include as header, then copied the content. and yet, the compiler/linker didn't recognize the object file. perhaps you can help?thank you

• Session troubles when used on BT hosting

  Hello I have developed a site for a client with a pre-existing BT hosting package. Since going live there has been a problem where $_session loses it's data between pages. I have previously fixed the problem, but somehow it has become unfixed. Last time this problem happened, my research indicated that there is something funny with BT's setup when using sessions, and that article provided this code: if(ini_get('register_globals') == 1) if(is_array($_SESSION)) foreach(array_keys($_SESSION) as $var_to_kill) unset($$var_to_kill); Which even though it looks broken to me, did in fact reduce the problem to a very low level. (i.e one drop out a day). However, today my client is in touch again and surprise surprise, the problem is back. Does anyone know of a solution? • Actionscript blur/shadows/glows how heavy are they on the processor?

  Hi, I have say 10 items in a particular space, If I apply glows and drop shadows to all of them and all of these items are usually static. Other characters do move around them too. So I'm just wondering would it be wise to use vectors with actionscript blurs and glows. Or to have a PNG? and if I cannot have a PNG and have to work with vectors with glows/blurs/shadows. Would they be too heavy on the processor?

• Android : How to Remove all capital letters from image filenames before importing into Eclipse

  As you know, you can't have capital letters in your image filenames that you use in your Android project (Ressource/Drawables folder). I've got hundreds of small images (GOOG.GIF as an exemple) that I need to import into my project (I usually do a simple drag and drop from a desktop folder into Eclipse). So here's the question : How do I quickly change all the filenames (replace all capital letters to lower case) before importing into my project ? So, GOOG.GIF becomes goog.gif AAPL.GIF becomes aapl.gif etc. Any quick command line solution or another tool to do just that ? Thanks.

• Memory leak with ContextMenuStrip

  I'm creating a lot of custom controls and adding them to a FlowLayoutPanel. There is also a ContextMenuStrip created and populated at design time. Every time a control is added to the panel it has its ContextMenuStrip property assigned to this menu, so that all controls "share" the same menu. But I noticed when the controls are removed from the panel and disposed of, the memory in use in Task Manager doesn't drop. It rises around 50kB every time a control is created and added to the layout panel. I downloaded the trial of .NET Memory Profiler and it showed there were references to the menu strip hanging around after the controls were disposed. I changed the code to explicitly set the ContextMenuStrip property to null before disposing of the control, and yep, the memory is now released. Why is this? Shouldn't the GC clean up this type of thing?

  Is there a project which helps setup a Hadoop cluster on office desktops, when they are idle? I'd like to experiment with Hadoop/MR/hbase but don't have acces to 5-10 computers. The computers at work are idle after hours and are connected to each other through a very high speed connection. What's more, data on these computers stays within our network so there is no privacy issue. In order for this to work I need a fairly light weight monitor running on each machine. When the computer has been idle for X hours, it will join the cluster. If the user logs on, it has to drop out of the cluster and return all CPU/memory back. Does something like this exist?

I have to create a new .tooltipseperator if I want to add another to a different menu list.   I'm working on an asp.net mvc application. Each user have his own time zone. Right now, I'm using "TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones" to generate a drop down list in order for the user to select a timezone and this is what I store in my db They are like that: Morocco Standard Time (00:00:00) UTC (00:00:00) GMT Standard Time (00:00:00) ... I know that php use a different timezone set, they are "region timezone", for example: Europe/Paris Europe/London ... My question is: is there a way to play with the region timezone (like php) in an .NET application? The only way I can think of is to bind each php region timezone to the .net timezone. Also, the "TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones" list all of the timezone on the machine. Is the list different between windows server, windows vista, windows xp? Hope this make sense, thanks guys

• How to change the OSX menubar in wxPython without any opened window?

  I am writing a wxPython application that remains open after closing all of its windows - so you can still drag & drop new files onto the OSX dock icon (I do this with myApp.SetExitOnFrameDelete(False)). Unfortunately if I close all the windows, the OSX menubar will only contain a "Help" menu. I would like to add at least a File/Open menu item, or just keep the menubar of the main window. Is this somehow possible in wxPython? In fact, I would be happy with a non-wxPython hack as well (for example, setting the menu in pyobjc). wxPython development in OSX is such a hack anyway ;)

  Hi guys, So I'm slowly tackling OO and Zend Framework and their MVC process in particular. I have an existing website and web-based calendar application that was designed by me, but coded by a different person and done procedurally. I understand that it will be very difficult for my application to ever be completely OO without a full re-write, and I'm fine with that. I have a lot of updates and modifications I want to do in the future, so I'm wanting to start replacing some of the basic components (login, authentication. etc) now, and continue to learn as I go. Again, I'm really a newbie at programming and OO. What I'm wondering is if I'm wanting to incorporate the Framework, then would I just first drop my whole site into the /public folder of the Framework and then start pulling functionality out from there?

  Let's assume I have a web page which has some onmouseover javascript behaviour to drop down a menu (or something similar) Obviously, this isn't going to work on a touch device like the iPad or smartphones. How can I detect whether the browser supports hover events like onmouseover or onmouseout and the :hover pseudotag in CSS? Note: I know that if I'm concerned about this I should write it a different way, but I'm curious as to whether detection can be done. Edit: When I say, "supports hover events", I really mean, "does the browser have a meaningful representation of hover events". If the hardware supports it but the software doesn't (or vice versa), there's no meaningful representation. With the exception of some upcoming tech, I don't think any touch devices have a meaningful representation of a hover event.

  I have a 'user' table in MySQL When users login to my app, they can see a list of all other users and via some javascript-drag-drop can arrange which order the other users appear in. We want to save that order. And it is saved to their record (i.e. 'order_pref' = 4,3,5,23... list of user_ids in the order they specified). So that's fine but when it comes to displaying.. Is there an easy way I can sort based on this comma delimited list of user_ids using just one query?

  I've created a custom log4net appender. It descends from log4net.Appender.SmtpAppender which descends from log4net.Appender.BufferingAppenderSkeleton. I programatically setup the following parameters in its constructor: this.Lossy = false; //don't drop any messages this.BufferSize = 3; //buffer up to 3 messages this.Threshold = log4net.Core.Level.Error; //append messages of Error or higher this.Evaluator = new log4net.Core.LevelEvaluator(Level.Off); //don't flush the buffer for any message, regardless of level I expect this would buffer 3 events of level Error or higher and deliver those events when the buffer is filled. However, I'm finding that the events are not buffered at all; instead, SendBuffer() is called immediately every time an error is logged. Is there a mistake in my configuration? Thanks

  I have models similar to the following: class Band(models.Model): name = models.CharField(unique=True) class Event(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50, unique=True) bands = models.ManyToManyField(Band) and essentially I want to use the validation capability offered by a ModelForm that already exists for Event, but I do not want to show the default Multi-Select list (for 'bands') on the page, because the potential length of the related models is extremely long. I have the following form defined: class AddEventForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Event fields = ('name', ) Which does what is expected for the Model, but of course, validation could care less about the 'bands' field. I've got it working enough to add bands correctly, but there's no correct validation, and it will simply drop bad band IDs. What should I do so that I can ensure that at least one (correct) band ID has been sent along with my form? Any ideas where this is coming from and how to get rid of it? • Is it a good idea to keep documentation in the VCS?

  At work we just moved to Mercurial for our VCS from SVN. In SVN we used to have a "docs" folder next to "trunk", in "docs" we would keep all our file documentation, client files, diagrams, mockups, etc. (we use a wiki(Redmine) for internal documentation). Now in a DVCS enviroment we don't need a "trunk" folder, so we drop the code at the root of the repo, and now having a "docs" folder inside the repo feels weird being at the same level that the code. This has taken me to reconsider if it is a good idea to keep those files in the VCS, we have a "documents" section in Redmine, but I have never used it because it is a pain to have to download a file each time I want to open it and I can't access the file when I'm offline. What best practices have you guys found to manage these kind of non-code files?

The .feature with the default template code is created. Now I try to run this test, but I don't understand how. When I right-click the project (at the top-level), there is no "Run test(s)" option in the mouse drop down menu. Didn't the SpecFlow install correctly, am I missing some references or some other tool I need to install?

  Hello, I'm stumbling in the data wilderness and feel very lost, so i am asking for help. I have done some database apps in VS (C#) winforms for some time, wpf lately. These are small to medium apps (embedded dbs, a bit of sql server), like a restaurants, cash registers and similar. (15-20 tables) Until now, i have done all my datasets by drag and drop in Visual Studio designer. I spent weeks on web trying to find some complete solution how to write complete solution with typed datasets by hand from scratch (DAL, B.Objects) in hope to learn some architecture patterns along the way, but without success. So, finally question. Can someone recommend me what to learn for this type of applications, maybe move away from datasets , use some ORM ( maybe overkill, i dont know). Point me in some direction please.
