  Hi, all. Yesterday, my supervisor told me that tmp-file-based session should be THE answer to session implementation, and I should abandon any idea of making sessions persistent. He argues that file-based session is much faster and eaiser to use than other choices like db-based or memcached-based implementations. What he said was really a shock to my past learning experience, so please tell me whether he was wrong and why? Thanks in advance.

In my experience I have never found a situation where that error wasn't caused by a flow in the program's logic. Are there cases where output buffering is actually the correct solution?

  To get any code with SoftReference<T> to be fully tested, one must come up with some way to test the 'yup, it's been nulled' case. One might more or less mock this by using a 'for-test' code path to force the reference to be null, but that won't manage the queue exactly as the GC does. I wonder if anyone out can share experience in setting up a repeatable, controlled, environment, in which the GC is, in fact, provoked into collecting and nulling?

• Selenium RC slower on Windows 7 than on XP?

  I've got two systems, one with Windows XP and another with 7, both running Firefox 3.6, the same version of Selenium RC and the newest nunit. When I run tests on 7, it is executed extremely slowly (I mean walking by textbox and setting its values), but when I execute this script on Windows XP it is extremely fast.
