  • Which Hadoop API version should I use?

    In the latest Hadoop Studio the 0.18 API of Hadoop is called "Stable" and the 0.20 API of Hadoop is called "Unstable". The distribution that comes from Yahoo is a 0.20 (with yahoo patches), which is apparently "the way to go". From cloudera they state the 0.20 (with cloudera patches) is also stable. Now given the fact that we'll start coding a new Hadoop project in the next few weeks; which API should we use and which Hadoop distribution (Apache, Cloudera, Yahoo, ...) should we use?   • Java client server sending bytes receiver listens indefinitely

    Hello, I'm trying to write a Java program for Windows that involves communication with a server program located on a foreign machine.My program successfully connects to the server, successfully writes a byte array to it, and waits for a response. I know that the server is printing bytes (the response) back to me one byte at a time. I've tried using a DataInputStream object with various methods (read, readByte etc.), I've tried using a BufferedReader object with its methods (read, readLine etc.) but all the reader objects and various methods that I've used all come up against the same problem. The bytes are being successfully read (each time a byte or bytes are read, I can print them to the console, and they are what I'd expect them to be). The problem is that my reader doesn't know when to stop reading. Even if the server has sent all its bytes, the reader function on my end waits for more data, indefinitely, and so the program hangs at the read function. This problem seems to affect all the techniques that I have tried. I've been running tests with a simple client program and server program, each about 40 or 50 lines long, where the client connects to the server, and sends some bytes to it. All the techniques I've tried for the server reader result in the same problem mentioned above (the server hangs waiting for more input from the client, even though it has sent all its data). I'm really desperate for some help on this. It's important that I get this program finished soon, and it's basically complete except for this communication issue. Any help is much appreciated! -Rob

  • Looping through Markers with Google Maps API v3 Problem

    I'm not sure why this isn't working. I don't have any errors, but what happens is, no matter what marker I click on, it clicks the 3rd one (which is the last one out of 4 markers. Array starts at 0, obviously) and shows the number "3", which is correct for THAT one, but I'm not clicking that one.   • Google maps KM bounds box reapplying itself on map zoom

    I have a map in which I apply a custom overlay using KMbox overlay to signify where I think the users general point of interest lies. What I want is to display this map to the user and allow them to click on the map to give me an exact location match of their POI. This all works fine except for when the user clicks on the map and changes the zoom of the map.   • Change google search location beyond current country

    I often work remotely and prefer using en-us locale settings for my searches. One of our computers is located in Germany, and whenever I try to change the location in Google Search Settings, I get an answer to "Pleas enter a valid Deutschland city or zip code". I checked this post, but it doesn't apply, as my language settings en-us and the Google search language is also set to English. It clearly uses the IP address of the computer. I couldn't find an answer in the Google help pages, anyone any idea how to change it London, New-York or Amsterdam?

  • How can I create numbered map markers in Google Maps V3?

    I'm working on a map that has multiple markers on it. These markers use a custom icon, but I'd also like to add numbers on top. I've seen how this has been accomplished using older versions of the API. How can I do this in V3? *Note -- the "title" attribute creates a tooltip when you mouseover the marker, but I want something that will be layered on top of the custom image even when you're not hovering on top of it.     I'm looking to achieve the following: For a specific person, for example BarackObama, I'd like to get the last 100 times/tweets he was mentioned. Not his own tweets but the tweets of others containing @BarackObama. In the end I'd like to have: the person who mentioned, location, datetime. This content should be written to a flat file. I've been experimenting with the Twitter API and Python, with success but haven't yet succeeded achieving the above problem. I know there is a dev sections on the twitter website but they don't provide any example of code!! https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api/1/get/statuses/mentions count=100 ....     I'd like to be able to run a line of PHP code on the command line similar to how the following options work: :~> perl -e "print 'hi';" :~> python -c "print 'hi'" :~> ruby -e "puts 'hi'" I'd like to be able to do: :~> php "echo 'hi';" I've read that there is a -r option that can do what I need for php, however it doesn't appear to be available when I try to use it. I've tried using PHP 5.2.13 and PHP 4.4.9 and neither have an -r option available. I wrote this script (that I called run_php.php) - which works, but I'm not a huge fan of it just because I feel like there should be a more "correct" way to do it. #!/usr/bin/php5 -q <?php echo eval($argv[1]); ?> My question is: is there a -r option? If so, why is it not available when I run --help? If there is no -r option, what is the best way to do this (without writing an intermediary script if possible)? Thanks!

Proposed solution by NetBeans blog (failed) 1-add those two lines to httpd.conf AddType Application/x-httpd-php .php LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/sapi/php5apache2_2.dll" It doesnt works because there is no "php5apache2_2.dll" under my Php installation folder?? I have such .dll : php5ts.dll, ssleay32.dll,.. Any one have any suggestion in order to run the PHP script successfully?

  • Protecting sensitive entity data

    Hi, I'm looking for some advice on architecture for a client/server solution with some peculiarities. The client is a fairly thick one, leaving the server mostly to peristence, concurrency and infrastructure concerns. The server contains a number of entities which contain both sensitive and public information. Think for example that the entities are persons, assume that social security number and name are sensitive and age is publicly viewable. When starting the client, the user is presented with a number of entities, not disclosing any sensitive information. At any time the user can choose to log in and authenticate against the server, given the authentication is successful the user is granted access to the sensitive information. The client is hosting a domain model and I was thinking of implementing this as some kind of "lazy loading", making the first request instantiating the entities and later refreshing them with sensitive data. The entity getters would throw exceptions on sensitive information when they've not been disclosed, f.e.: class PersonImpl : PersonEntity { private bool undisclosed; public override string SocialSecurityNumber { get { if (undisclosed) throw new UndisclosedDataException(); return base.SocialSecurityNumber; } } } Another more friendly approach could be to have a value object indicating that the value is undisclosed. get { if (undisclosed) return undisclosedValue; return base.SocialSecurityNumber; } Some concerns: What if the user logs in and then out, the sensitive data has been loaded but must be disclosed once again. One could argue that this type of functionality belongs within the domain and not some infrastructural implementation(i.e. repository implementations). As always when dealing with a larger number of properties there's a risk that this type of functionality clutters the code Any insights or discussion is appreciated!

  • Google calendar sync has stopped working

    I set up Google Calendar to sync with Lightning in Thunderbird. It has worked well for the last few weeks. It has now suddenly stopped working. I have checked the CalDAV addresses and they are all still ok. I do not know if my recent addition of syncing my new Android phone with the Google Calendar has anything to do with it, or just a coincidence. When Thunderbird tries to sync, it asks for the username and password. I enter these for the Google Calendar, and end up in a continuous circle.

  • Jquery Ajax + PHP

    I am having problems with jQuery Ajax and PHP I have my php file set up to echo the data I am gathering from a mysql database. I have verified that the database is returning something and that the string at the end of the function actually contains data. What is happening though, is that it looks like the php echo is happening before the ajax call, causing the php data to be displayed at the top of the page, and not below in proper div. I think it might have something to do with timing of the ajax and the php call, but I am not sure. So, why is the data not getting caught by the .ajax and thrown into the div?   • Google Chrome passphrase : where is it?

    Every time I do a fresh install, Google Chrome asks me for my passphrase. Have searched high and low in Google's help forum and have yet to receive or find any form of response. When I do a fresh install, if I try to enter the passphrase (with all possible passwords i can recall) nothing works and I can't recover my extensions, bookmarks etc. On the other hand, if I wait a bit, everything falls to place. I close that window asking for passphrase and all my extensions, bookmarks are back. The failure to enter a proper passphrase code gets me a message to change my passphrase in my account settings. Who knows where that is! No one at Google's forum seems to know anything about this "passphrase".

  • WPF C# Client/Server announcement system

    I'm currently in the process of creating an announcement system at my place of work. The role of this system will be to replace all users email due to people misusing it and generally abusing the facility. The system will consist of: Web Portal: Will allow staff to enter any important announcements (this will be restricted via AD). SQL Server 2k5 DB: Will hold the announcements along with records of staff members and if they've read the announcements etc. Front End: Created in WPF & C# which is nearly complete, it will display the announcements to the users. Web Page: Client will contact every so often, which will return an xml file for the client to read. However my boss has now shifted the goal posts and would like the announcements to appear to the user once they are written to the database, rather than waiting on the client to contact the webpage. So now I'm a bit unsure as to how to go about this. I have one idea where I would create a small server application to monitor for new announcements then contact the clients to inform them to approach the website for the information they need. But I'm just looking to see if theres a better or more efficient way to do this or if someone else has a more appropriate idea or suggestion.

    I am creating a custom form building system, which includes various tokens. These tokens are found using Regular Expressions, and depending on the type of toke, parsed. Some require simple replacement, some require cycles, and so forth. Now I know, that RegExp is quite resource and time consuming, so I would like to be able to parse the code for the form once, creating a php code, and then save the PHP code, for next uses. How would I go about doing this? So far I have only seen output caching. Is there a way to cache commands like echo and cycles like foreach()? Because of misunderstandings, I'll create an example.   • Google SketchUp network licensing issue

    We have 10 licenses for Google SketchUp in my local office. We store the license file on a network drive that is accessible to all users. We've been finding that, at most, only 3 or 4 people can run it at one time before the license shows up as "expired" on another user's system. I've verified with Google that we have 10 licenses, and have downloaded updated license files from them. The only thing that I can think of is that sometimes SketchUp crashes. Could this be utilizing a license somehow without giving it up? Google has not been able to answer this question.

  • Strange problem on some client's browsers

    We are fighting a strange problem on the company that I work. We created a site of a promotion to a client where its consumers can register products barcodes to win prizes. The site was created using PHP and MySQL. The site uses SSL on every form. However, some consumers report to the client's call-center they was no able make a registration at the site. We try everything, but we cannot, by no ways, reproduce the problem. The consumers reported the problem on several browsers ranging from IE8 to Firefox, the problem is same on everyone them. One co-woker this weekend was able to catch this same bug on his wife's notebook and brought her computer to the company so we could test. However, here on the company the problem didn't happened and we can make the registration normally. We suppose this problem could be a matter of encoding and special characteres like ã and ç. But we are sure that all source files are UTF8- with BOM. We also suspect of MSXml version, but we are note sure anymore. Because of legal impediments the client cannot ask the consumers to install anything on they computers to test or fix the problem. Sorry but by complience rules we also cannot share the url of the site, what is a pity. I know it is too much on vacuun, but perhaps you could had crossed something similar. Thank you

    I'm upgrading my static website that had .php extensions on the content pages. I've created my own simple cms which will start retrieving data from mysql database from now on, keeping the url structure same as the old once. The cms has get function to retrieve url structure from the database. Overall it started working fine with .html when i tested. But when i change the .html extension to .php in my .htaccess code the content pages starts reflecting "Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request." Here is my .htaccess code which i've used: RewriteBase / Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^([^?]*).php$ content.php?pid=$1 Perhaps there is a conflict, here is the code with .html extension that actually works fine. RewriteBase / Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^([^?]*).html$ content.php?pid=$1 So basically, content pages with .html are working & .php are not working. But i need my content pages to be with .php Please help. Thanks in advance... :)
