  • How to take screenshots of WPF applications in correct size and content

    I usually take screenshots of single windows via the built-in key combination Alt+Print. Unfortunately this does not work well for more and more applications - all of them are WPF applications. Usually the screen shots have at least one of the following properties: the screenshot is larger than expected and contains parts of the screen around the actual window the screenshot has the correct size but includes parts of other windows, e.g. the Windows task bar. Of course the task bar might be in front of the window, but taking screen shots of "normal" programs works fine. How do I take screenshots of WPF application which are correct in size and content? I'd like to avoid the extra effort of checking all the screenshots for correctness, reproducing the situation, taking them again in case of issues or repairing/faking them manually in any pixel manipulation program (e.g. Paint.NET). I observe this on Windows 7 x64 SP 1, all official updates installed, but it might apply to other Windows versions as well (not tested yet). .NET 4.5 is installed. The application itself might only need the built-in .NET 3.5.1. It's reproducible on a virtual machine with the same settings. Examples: Screenshot of an application running in maximized mode. The screen shot includes parts of the task bar. Screenshot of a progress dialog which is behind the task bar. The screenshot also includes the task bar, while it doesn't for non WPF applications.

  • Loading a Browser Page in the Background

    I have a tabbed interface (one activity per tab) where one tab will be a browser view displaying a webpage. The application loads in a different activity / view, but I want it to begin to download the webpage in the background as soon as the app launches, before the user ever clicks on that tab and initiates that activity.   • ffmpeg: video file played OK on Ubuntu, but no sound on XP

    I created a video clip using ffmpeg (vcodec: mpeg2video, acodec: AC3 5.1). The file can be played normally on Ubuntu, but when I play it on an XP machine, there is no sound. I can play AC3 files and other movies with AC3 sound. I already tried many codec packs and many players. When I compare the MediaInfo tab of the Properties window of the file with another playable movie, I see that the Audio Identifier of the audio stream in my file is 0x80 while it is 0x02 in the other movie. So I guess that's why players on XP can't recognize the audio codec. When I use an MKV container instead of MPEG (still mpeg2video codec), then the result is OK on both Ubuntu and XP (with the correct Audio ID). I really need MPEG though. Any idea?     When using ffmpeg on linux, my 4.3GB 2.21 second video is being chopped down to 1.56 duration.   • mysql_connect "bool $new_link = true" is very slow

    Hi, I'm using latest version of Xampp on 64bit Win7. The problem is that, when I use mysql_connect with "bool $new_link" set to true like so: mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'my_password', TRUE); script execution time increases dramatically (about 0,5 seconds per connection, and when I have 4 diffirent objects using different connections, it takes ~2 seconds). Is setting "bool $new_link" to true, generally a bad idea or could it just be some problem with my software configuration. Thank you.

    I have followed answer given by CMS in relation to getting a menu to stay in one place on the page whilst you scroll the page as per this original question and it works very well but I also have a number of images on the page where I'm using the jquery fancylink plugin to show an enlarged image on click. The problem is when you then close the fancylink popup and scroll to the top of the page the static DIV then decides to stick to the very top of the page. Any ideas or help would this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Google search ajax api is to restrictive. Any alternatives?

    The google search ajax api is terrific, and the .net wrapper available on codeplex makes using it from a .net project very simple. However, the api itself is crippled so that it only returns 64 results per query. Not very useful for many applications. Ignoring the likely TOS problems, are there known .net libraries that can query the root google website and scrape the results into a resultset? I'm assuming this could result in much larger result counts than the ajax version enabled.

    I have a query that's used in a reporting system of ours that sometimes runs quicker than a second, and other times takes 1 to 10 minutes to run. Here's the entry from the slow query log: # Query_time: 543 Lock_time: 0 Rows_sent: 0 Rows_examined: 124948974 use statsdb; SELECT count(distinct Visits.visitorid) as 'uniques' FROM Visits,Visitors WHERE Visits.visitorid=Visitors.visitorid and candidateid in (32) and visittime>=1275721200 and visittime<=1275807599 and (omit=0 or omit>=1275807599) AND Visitors.segmentid=9 AND Visits.visitorid NOT IN (SELECT Visits.visitorid FROM Visits,Visitors WHERE Visits.visitorid=Visitors.visitorid and candidateid in (32) and visittime<1275721200 and (omit=0 or omit>=1275807599) AND Visitors.segmentid=9); It's basically counting unique visitors, and it's doing that by counting the visitors for today and then substracting those that have been here before. If you know of a better way to do this, let me know. I just don't understand why sometimes it can be so quick, and other times takes so long - even with the same exact query under the same server load. Here's the EXPLAIN on this query. Two seconds per query is too long because we are calling the query up to 50 times per page load, with different time periods. Could the quick behavior be due to the query being saved in the query cache? I tried running 'RESET QUERY CACHE' and 'FLUSH TABLES' between my benchmark tests and I was still getting quick results most of the time. Note: last night while running the query I got an error: Unable to save result set. My initial research shows that may be due to a corrupt table that needs repair. Could this be the reason for the behavior I'm seeing?
