    In a J2EE application, we are using EJB2 in weblogic. To avoid losing time building the initial context and looking up EJB Home interface, I'm considering the Service Locator Pattern. But after a few search on the web I found that event if this pattern is often recommended for the InitialContext caching, there are some negative opinion about the EJB Home caching. Questions: Is it safe to cache EJB Home lookup result ? What will happen if one my cluster node is no more working ? What will happen if I install a new version of the EJB without refreshing the service locator's cache ?

    I'm thinking that the answer is probably 'no' if the program is small and there are a lot of methods, but what about in a larger program? If I am going to be using one variable in multiple methods throughout the program, is it smarter to: Come up with a different phrasing for each method (to eliminate naming conflicts). Use the same name for each method (to eliminate confusion) Just use a global variable (to eliminate both) This is more of a stylistic question than anything else. What naming convention do YOU use when passing variables?

    Is it possible with Axis2 and Eclipse to generate a Web Service client and have it use java types that you already have in packages instead of creating it's own types. Reason being of course if I have type A already created and it creates it's own Type A I can't just assign variable of type A to variable of type B. The wsdl is being generated from a Web Service deployed to an application server. If it's not possible to generate it from that would it be possible to generate a client from the already existing java files.

I've try my effort to change it and test on it,and find out when I set the var compSpec = document.compChooser as a local variable inside the function instead of a global variable,the next statement could be executed. But I thought for a global variable,it is accessible in everywhere on the page and also inside a function.But why now I can't accesses it inside my function??Any idea?? Besides,I stumble upon a weird article while googling,it says that when a global variable is created,it is added to window object.I just curious why this happen??And what's the benefits and uses of it??     As an exercise I implemented the mathematical power function. Once using recur: (defn power [a n] (let [multiply (fn [x factor i] (if (zero? i) x (recur (* x factor) factor (dec i))))] (multiply a a (dec n)))) And once with lazy-seq: (defn power [a n] (letfn [(multiply [a factor] (lazy-seq (cons a (multiply (* a factor) factor))))] (nth (multiply a a) (dec n)))) Which implementation do you think is superior? I truly have no idea.. (I'd use recur because it's easier to understand.) I read that lazy-seq is fast because is uses internal caching. But I don't see any opportunities for caching in my sample. Am I overlooking something?

This is how I plan to do it, but it's ugly and I can't change the parameter name 'id': $.post('ajax.php?'+order,{action:'updateOrder'}); Maybe I need to unserialize, then implode the variable 'order' and assign it to just one parameter?

    In T-SQL, this is allowed: DECLARE @SelectedValue int SELECT @SelectedValue = MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = 1 So, it's possible to get the value of a SELECT and stuff it in a variable (provided it's scalar, obviously). If I put the same select logic in a stored procedure: CREATE PROCEDURE GetMyInt AS SELECT MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = 1 Can I get the output of this stored procedure and stuff it in a variable? Something like: DECLARE @SelectedValue int SELECT @SelectedValue = EXEC GetMyInt (I know the syntax above is not allowed because I tried it!)

    I've got a function that requires const some_type** as an argument (some_type is a struct, and the function needs a pointer to an array of this type). I declared a local variable of type some_type*, and initialized it. Then I call the function as f(&some_array), and the compiler (gcc) says: error: invalid conversion from ‘some_type**’ to ‘const some_type**’ What's the problem here? Why can't I convert a variable to const?
