    Hi, BACKGROUND: I am working on a .NET WinForms application now (C#) with an ADO.net database for the data layer. QUESTION: How an I develop this now such that it would be easy to migrate to a model where the data layer is abstracted via a HTTP web-service or REST interface? For example would just use of a standard C# interface with a Factory to obtain a concrete implementation of the interface where this uses ADO.net be the best? thanks

  • How do I allow inline images with data urls on .NET 4 without triggering request validation?

    I'm using the jQuery jstree plugin (http://jstree.com) in a ASP.NET MVC 2 project on .NET 4 RC. It comes with some stylesheets with inline images with data urls, like this: .tree-checkbox ul { background-image:url(data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAgACAIAAAB4dGf///yH5BAEAAAEALAAAAAACAAIAAAICRF4AOw==); } Now, the url for the background image contains a colon, which .NET 4 thinks is an unsafe character, so I get this error message: A potentially dangerous Request.Path value was detected from the client (:). According to the documentation, I am supposed to be able to prevent this by adding <pages validateRequest="false" /> to my Web.config, but that doesn't seem to help. I have tried adding it to the main Web.config for the application, as well as to a special Web.config in the /config folder, but to no avail. Is there any way to get .NET to allow this?

If I instantiate an object before: db.Entry(chamados).State = EntityState.Modified; I can even compare, but this error appears at runtime. *An object with the same key already exists in the ObjectStateManager.   • Tellago releases a RESTful API for BizTalk Server business rules

    Jesus Rodriguez has blogged recently on Tellago Devlabs' release of an open source RESTful API for BizTalk Server Business Rules.   This is an excellent addition to the BizTalk ecosystem and I congratulate Tellago on their work.   See http://weblogs.asp.net/gsusx/archive/2011/02/08/tellago-devlabs-a-restful-api-for-biztalk-server-business-rules.aspx   The Microsoft BRE was originally designed to be used as an embedded library in .NET applications. This is reflected in the implementation of the Rules Engine Update (REU) Service which is a TCP/IP service that is hosted by a Windows service running locally on each BizTalk box. The job of the REU is to distribute rules, managed and held in a central database repository, across the various servers in a BizTalk group.   The engine is therefore distributed on each box, rather than exploited behind a central rules service.   This model is all very well, but proves quite restrictive in enterprise environments. The problem is that the BRE can only run legally on licensed BizTalk boxes. Increasingly we need to deliver rules capabilities across a more widely distributed environment. For example, in the project I am working on currently, we need to surface decisioning capabilities for use within WF workflow services running under AppFabric on non-BTS boxes. The BRE does not, currently, offer any centralised rule service facilities out of the box, and hence you have to roll your own (and then run your rules services on BTS boxes which has raised a few eyebrows on my current project, as all other WCF services run on a dedicated server farm ).   Tellago's API addresses this by providing a RESTful API for querying the rules repository and executing rule sets against XML passed in the request payload. As Jesus points out in his post, using a RESTful approach hugely increases the reach of BRE-based decisioning, allowing simple invocation from code written in dynamic languages, mobile devices, etc.   We developed our own SOAP-based general-purpose rules service to handle scenarios such as the one we face on my current project. SOAP is arguably better suited to enterprise service bus environments (please don't 'flame' me - I refuse to engage in the RESTFul vs. SOAP war). For example, on my current project we use claims based authorisation across the entire service bus and use WIF and WS-Federation for this purpose.   We have extended this to the rules service. I can't release the code for commercial reasons :-( but this approach allows us to legally extend the reach of BRE far beyond the confines of the BizTalk boxes on which it runs and to provide general purpose decisioning capabilities on the bus.   So, well done Tellago.   I haven't had a chance to play with the API yet, but am looking forward to doing so.

    I am looking at a job with a great company and in a field that I really want to be in. Unfortunalty, what they want is someone with "experience with ASP (VB), T-SQL in a production environment." But I've never done anything except with FOSS tools: C, Ruby(straight and RoR), Perl, MySQL, et c. I'm thinking that I could probably pick up VB without much trouble (I took a class that used it on college, was impressed at how easy it was to construct Windows UIs, but I've never needed it) Is there any way that I can demonstrate that my experience is similar? What would equivalent experience be in the FOSS world?

    Assume I want to generate an element similar to this in ASP.NET MVC 2: <%= Html.TextBoxFor(p => p.FooBar)%> Is there an overload or way I can get ASP.NET MVC 2 to only generate a name attribute and not an ID attribute? I can have it generate a blank id with <%= Html.TextBoxFor(p => p.FooBar, new { id = "" })%>, but I would like to generate the element with no ID at all, and without overriding the asp.net mvc framework.

  • How do I determine the .NET framwork version in a partial/medium trust environment?

    I need to determine the clients .NET framework version in my web application. I'm running in partial trust so I can not read the filesystem or registry (Is there an easy way to check .net framework verison using C#?). System.Environment.Version returns the runtime version, so I can not use that. I cannot use javascript The only way I can think of at the moment is to try to load a .NET 3.5 dll and catch an exception, but this does not sound very nice. Any suggestions?

After that, I search about BDD (Behavior Driven Development) that focus on specification more than unit testing when compares with TDD (Test Driven Development). I found some framework that work with Ruby and Java. But I do not any famous framework for .NET. Please suggest me about BDD framework and summary PROs/CONs of it. PS.     I downloaded the .NET 4 framework from miscrosoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992&displaylang=en I installed and rebooted. When I go to compile options -- target framework... .NET 4 isn't on the list. Is .net 4 not compatible with VS2008? It would be nice if Microsoft stated that somewhere...

  • Problem with MVC3 application

    I am working on MVC3 application. I use entity framework, NInject, Fluent Validation and some more Nuget packages. I am using Tortoise SVN for versioning. Recently I changed the structure of my SVN repository, so my working copy of MVC3 app was moved to some different folder in the repository. Now when I checked out the copy from SVN, all the references that I had added through Nuget were lost(EF, NInject and rest nuget packages were showing yellow missing icon in references). This had happened to me prior to this also, when I tried to check out the app from svn to some other folder. I had to manually add all the references again through Nuget again. Am I doing anything wrong? Please guide. I hope I could explain my problem properly.

You provide connection settings in the constructor, set a few options indicating where the backup device will be located, set optional performance parameters and start the backup. The performance options are designed to help you backup your Azure Tables quickly, while attempting to keep under a specific threshold to prevent Storage Account throttling. For example, the MaxRESTPerSec property will attempt to keep the overall backup operation under 200 rest calls per second. Another performance option if the Backup Strategy for Azure Tables. By default, all tables are simply scanned. While this works best for smaller Azure Tables, larger tables can use the GUID strategy, which will issue requests against an Azure Table in parallel assuming the PartitionKey stores GUID values. It doesn’t mean that your PartitionKey must have GUIDs however for this strategy to work; but the backup algorithm is tuned for this condition.   • Where Are the Release Versions of ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 Templating Files?

    I'm trying to get the production version of ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 Templating working and can't find the JavaScript files. With the beta version I needed to reference MicrosoftAjaxTemplates.js, MicrosoftAjaxAdoNet.js, and MicrosoftAjaxDataContext.js. I can get everything to work with the beta CDN versions (e.g. http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/beta/0911/MicrosoftAjaxTemplates.js). But for the life of me I can't find 1. The release CDN versions of these files or 2. Where to download the whole Release ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 JavaScript package. The files certainly are not listed on the ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 CDN at http://www.asp.net/ajaxlibrary/CDNAjax4.ashx. Maybe the files have been renamed? Theoretically this should be a rediculously easy question and I'm a little embarrased to even ask it on StackOverflow, but I've had no luck finding an answer on my own.
