• How is Magento when it comes to adding custom functionality?

  hi, How is working with Magento when it comes to adding custom functionality? From an outsiders view the framework looks very complicated and it's hard to gage what is and is not possible. What are your experiences? Is it a difficult framework to get it to do what you want? Are there things that simply cannot be customized in Magento? How difficult is it to manage customizations when upgrading to latest versions,etc.. Any feedback/personal experiences would be great. Examples of highly customized Magento sites would be great too. Thanks for your help.

• How to make a UserControl with a custom DefaultBackColor?

  When I right-click on my custom UserControl's BackColor property in the property-grid, then click Reset, I would like the BackColor property to change to (for example) Color.LightGreen, and the property value to appear un-bolded, to indicate that it is the default value. Currently, I know I can do this: public override void ResetBackColor() { BackColor = Color.LightGreen; } Which works as far as setting it to LightGreen on reset. But it still appears bolded in the property-grid, indicating that the current value is not the default. I notice that the Control class has a static read-only property, DefaultBackColor. Unfortunately, since it's static, I cannot override it. Is there some way to get all the functionality I want?

  Clojure's system for creating an ad hoc hierarchy of keywords is familiar to most people who have spent a bit of time with the language. For example, most demos and presentations of the language include examples such as (derive ::child ::parent) and they go on to show how this can be used for multi-method dispatch. In all of the slides and presentations that I've seen, they use the global hierarchy. But it is possible to keyword relationships in custom hierarchies. Some questions, therefore: Are there any guidelines on when this is useful or necessary? Are there any functions for manipulating hierarchies? Merging is particularly useful, so I do this: (defn merge-h [& hierarchies] (apply merge-with (cons #(merge-with clojure.set/union %1 %2) hierarchies)) But I was wondering if such functions already exist somewhere.

• How does one inject variables into page templates from a custom Drupal module?

  We've created a custom module for organizing and publishing our newsletter content. The issue I'm running into now -- and I'm new to theming and Drupal module development, so it could just be a knowledge issue as opposed to a Drupal issue -- is how to get each newsletter themed. At this point the URL structure of our newsletter will be: /newsletters/{newsletter-name}/{edition-name}/{issue-date} which means that we can create template files in our theme using filenames like page-newsletters-{newsletter-name}-{edition-name}.tpl.php, which is great. The one issue I'm running into is that all of the content comes through in the $content variable of the theme. I'd like to have it come through as different variables (so that I can, inside the theme, place certain content in certain areas.) Is there a proper way for doing this?

• Hibernate: can I override an identifier generator using XML with a custom generator?

  I want to use a custom sequence generator in my application, but the entity is located in a domain model jar that is shared with other applications. Apparently entity annotations can be overridden in orm.xml but I can't figure out the proper XML incantation to get this to work. I can modify the annotation in the entity like this this: @GenericGenerator(name = "MYGEN", strategy = "MyCustomGenerator") @GeneratedValue(generator = "MYGEN") But I need to somehow map this to orm.xml in order to override the original annotation. Looking at the orm.xml schema here it appears that I can't even specify a generation type besides "sequence" and "table".

• Should I replace string patterns in asp.net mvc using a custom viewengine?

  Have an ASP.NET MVC site that is localized. The localization functionality adds the two digit language ID to the URL, e.g. /es/Page. If no language Id is found in the URL, the site switches to the user's browser culture. All's good. However, the site's hyperlinks, a mixture of hard-coded href tags, actionlinks, etc., don't include the base language ID, so when clicking through the site the set culture is lost, and the site reverts to the user's browser culture. My (lazy) thought is to replace all href values, that don't point to an external site, with the localized URL (e.g. include the /es/). Otherwise, all site links will need to be updated to include the culture code. Is this just plain dumb? Or, reasonable, and should be done using a custom view engine, or some other approach?

• Deploy custom web service to sharepoint server(2007/2010)?

  According to MSDN, for deploying custom web service, we need to create *wsdl.aspx and *disco.aspx files, and put them with .asmx together under _vti_bin folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\isapi). And put the dll under bin folder of the root of sharepoint virtual directory. It works correctly for me. However, i also found that if i put .asmx file under the root virtual directory without creating those *wsdl.aspx and *disco.aspx files. It can work as well and much easier than the above way. So i'm wondering what's the potential issues in this way?

  I have DotnetNuke loaded in Visual studio 2010. The 'use custom server' option under 'Start Options' is disabled. Why is it disabled? What does 'Use Default Web server' default to? How do I change what the default is? In earlier versions of VS i was able to switch between IIS and the internal web server (Cassini). Now it's more confusing in VS 2010! Would the project type, Web Application Project vs Web Site project, affect the setting?

• How can I render a custom view in a UIScrollView at varying zoom levels without distorting the view?

  The scenario: I have a custom view (a subclass of UIView) that draws a game board. To enable the ability to zoom into, and pan around, the board I added my view as a subview of UIScrollView. This kind of works, but the game board is being rendered incorrectly. Everything is kind of fuzzy, and nothing looks right. The question: How can I force my view to be redrawn correctly ay varying scales? I'm providing my view with the current scale and sending it a setNeedsDisplay message after the scroll view is done zooming in/out, but the game board is still being rendered incorrectly. My view should be redrawing the game board depending on the zoom level, but this isn't happening. Does the scroll view perform a generic transformation on subviews? Is there a way to disable this behavior?

  Hi all, I'm looking for a way to automate the deployment of a custom CAS policy in SharePoint. What i would like to achieve is the following: All assemblies that have been built and signed by our build server (with a secret key) should run in SharePoint under the 'higher than normal' trust level. Now I can manually edit the cas policy files to include something like this: <CodeGroup class="UnionCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="MyPermissionSet" Name="[My Company public key]" Description="Grants all "> <IMembershipCondition class="StrongNameMembershipCondition" version="1" PublicKeyBlob="[public key goes here]" /> </CodeGroup> And that works great. However, we have several huge sharepoint farms, with many applications running on it. I'd like to avoid having to manually edit all policy files to include this xml snippet. • Rail 3 custom renderer: where do put this code?

  I'm following along with Yehuda's example on how to build a custom renderer for Rails 3, according to this post: http://www.engineyard.com/blog/2010/render-options-in-rails-3/ I've got my code working, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where this code should live. Right now, I've got my code stuck right inside of my controller file. Doing this, everything works. When I move the code to the lib folder, though, I have explicitly 'require' my file in the controller that needs the renderer or it won't work. Yes, the file gets loaded when it sits in the lib folder, automatically. but the code to add the renderer isn't working for some reason, until I do a require on it. where should I put my code to add the renderer and mime type, so that rails 3 will pick it up and register it for me, without me having to manually require the file in my controller?

However, how am I gonna do that for a UITableView with custom UITableViewCells loaded through a .nib-file? There the IBOutlets are in MyCustomCell.h (inherited from UITableViewCell), but that is not the place where I load the nib and apply it to the cell instances, because that happens in MyTableView.m So do I still release the IBOutlets in the dealloc of MyCustomCell.m or do I have to do something in MyTableView.m? Also MyCustomCell.m doesn't have a - (void)viewDidUnload {} where I can set my IBOutlets to nil, while my MyTableView.m does.

• How can I modify a custom object in an ASP.NET FormView based on a button click?

  I have a FormView that modifies an instance of a custom class. The various form controls (TextBox, DropDownList etc.) are working fine. However, I want to include a Button that will modify the state of the DataItem based on some very simple logic. There is no form control which could control this change in a non-confusing way. So I tried adding a Button and modifying the state of the DataItem in the code-behind. But the problem I encounter is that the FormView's DataItem is null/nothing. From reading this SO question it seems the problem is that the item is not databound when the Button's Click event is fired. So, the question; Is it possible to get the DataItem for the FormView during a Button's Click event? and if not: what are my options for implementing this? Thanks in advance. • iphone: custom UITableViewCell taller than the default cell view.

  Hello, I'm creating an application that consists of a ListView with 5 rows: - 1st one containing a graph - 2nd to 5th rows containing some data with the same formatting. I have created 2 classes: GraphCustomViewCell and DataCustomViewCell. Depending upon the position of the cell I load the correct CustomCell with: NSArray *topLevelObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"GraphCustomViewCell" owner:nil options:nil]; for(id currentObject in topLevelObjects) { if([currentObject isKindOfClass:[GraphCustomViewCell class]]) { cell = (GraphCustomViewCell *)currentObject; break; } } That works fine except that the first row, the one corresponding to the graph, is bigger (in height) that the 4 other rows, and as a results it hides the 3 first other rows. Is there any option in the table view that enables the custom cell to expand the default cells ? I'd like that the 5 rows (graph + 4 data rows) to fit the entire screen (480 - tabbar's height).   I'm using some custom tasks from MSBuild Extension Pack (MEP). My projects are splitted among many files. In those files I import the MEP tasks using (twice or three times in two/three files). I receive the warning message when doing this like: ... warning MSB4011: "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\ExtensionPack\MSBuild.ExtensionPack.tasks" cannot be imported again. It was already imported at "D:...\Tasker.proj (5,3)". This is most likely a build authoring error. This subsequent import will be ignored. Does anyone know how to get rid of this warning message? Please help!

  Consider this code (type names genericised for the purposes of example): // Bound to ListBox.ItemsSource _items = new ObservableCollection<Item>(); // ...Items are added here ... // Specify custom IComparer for this collection view _itemsView = CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(_items) ((ListCollectionView)_itemsView).CustomSort = new ItemComparer(); When I set CustomSort, the collection is sorted as I expect. However I require the data to re-sort itself at runtime in response to the changing of the properties on Item. The Item class derives from INotifyPropertyChanged and I know that the property fires correctly as my data template updates the values on screen, only the sorting logic is not being called. I have also tried raising INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged passing an empty string, to see if a generic notification would cause the sorting to be initiated. No bananas. EDIT In response to Kent's suggestion I thought I'd point out that sorting the items using this has the same result, namely that the collection sorts once but does not re-sort as the data changes: _itemsView.SortDescriptions.Add( new SortDescription("PropertyName", ListSortDirection.Ascending));

  I have a custom subclass of BindingList<T> that I want to execute a LINQ query over using the handy extension methods. For example: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return list.Sum(x => x.Value); } But the compiler complains that it can't resolve Sum because it doesn't recognize list as an IEnumerable<T>, which it obviously is, because this works: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return ((IEnumerable<T>)list).Sum(x => x.Value); } Anyone have a clever way I can avoid the ugly and unecessary cast?

• Should I use custom exceptions to control the flow of application?

  Is it a good practise to use custom business exceptions (e.g. BusinessRuleViolationException) to control the flow of user-errors/user-incorrect-inputs??? The classic approach: I have a web service, where I have 2 methods, one is the 'checker' (UsernameAlreadyExists()) and the other one is 'creator' (CreateUsername())... So if I want to create a username, I have to do 2 roundtrips to webservice, 1.check, 2.if check is OK, create. What about using UsernameAlreadyExistsException? So I call only the 2. web service method (CrateUsername()), which contains the check and if not successfull, it throws the UsernameAlreadyExistsException. So the end goal is to have only one round trip to web service and the checking can be contained also in other web service methods (so I avoid calling the UsernameAlreadyExists() all the times..). Furthermore I can use this kind of business error handling with other web service calls completely avoiding the checking prior the call.

  Hi, I have been trying to create a new google custom search engine, but when I try some query,the search engine it is not giving me the expected search result.On some queries it is working fine, but on other queries, it says"no result". I tried adding the URL of the website that I wanted to search for, but there are certain pages and keywords that are not coming up in the search result when I try to search for the keyword of that page. I tired adding both the main page URL and the URL of the sub page that I want to search for, but nothing is working. There are some sub pages to the main URL that are coming in the search result.
