  • Connecting to an RMI server that sits behind a firewall?

    I know my RMI app works correctly - it works fine when the server is on localhost and inside the LAN but when connecting to an external RMI server it fails when trying to make stub calls So the server is bound to localhost (an internal IP - 192.168.1.73) but the client is specifying an external IP (45.4.234.56) - which then gets forwarded to the internal server. How do you resolve this problem? thanks

  • Multiple requests to server question

    I have a DB with user accounts information. I've scheduled a CRON job which updates the DB with every new user data it fetches from their accounts. I was thinking that this may cause a problem since all requests are coming from the same IP address and the server may block requests from that IP address. Is this the case? If so, how do I avoid being banned? should I be using a proxy? Thanks

I know the ip of the printer connected to the network and the IP of the print server, but I do not want to send the stream directly to the printer and prefers to spend by the print server. (Read full announcement here) "GPP-SP testing was done in the third quarter of 2012 in the Oracle Exastack Lab located in the Oracle Solution Center in Linlithgow, Scotland. It showed that an integrated solution can result in a highly streamlined installation, enabling reduced cost of evaluation, acquisition and ownership. Highlights of the transaction processing test are as follows: 9.3 million Mass Payments per hour 5.7 million Single Payments per hour The test found that the optimized combination of GPP-SP running on Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is able to increase transactions per second (TPS) output per core, and able to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). The volumes achieved were using only 25% of Exadata/Exalogic processing capacity".

    In yesterday’s blog post we learned the importance of the NewSQL. In this article we will understand the role of Cloud in Big Data Story What is Cloud? Cloud is the biggest buzzword around from last few years. Everyone knows about the Cloud and it is extremely well defined online. In this article we will discuss cloud in the context of the Big Data. Cloud computing is a method of providing a shared computing resources to the application which requires dynamic resources. These resources include applications, computing, storage, networking, development and various deployment platforms. The fundamentals of the cloud computing are that it shares pretty much share all the resources and deliver to end users as a service.  Examples of the Cloud Computing and Big Data are Google and Amazon.com. Both have fantastic Big Data offering with the help of the cloud. We will discuss this later in this blog post. There are two different Cloud Deployment Models: 1) The Public Cloud and 2) The Private Cloud Public Cloud Public Cloud is the cloud infrastructure build by commercial providers (Amazon, Rackspace etc.) creates a highly scalable data center that hides the complex infrastructure from the consumer and provides various services. Private Cloud Private Cloud is the cloud infrastructure build by a single organization where they are managing highly scalable data center internally. Hybrid cloud gives best of the both the world as it combines multiple cloud deployment models together. Cloud and Big Data – Common Characteristics There are many characteristics of the Cloud Architecture and Cloud Computing which are also essentially important for Big Data as well. They highly overlap and at many places it just makes sense to use the power of both the architecture and build a highly scalable framework. Here is the list of all the characteristics of cloud computing important in Big Data Scalability Elasticity Ad-hoc Resource Pooling Low Cost to Setup Infastructure Pay on Use or Pay as you Go Highly Available Leading Big Data Cloud Providers There are many players in Big Data Cloud but we will list a few of the known players in this list. Amazon Amazon is arguably the most popular Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider. The history of how Amazon started in this business is very interesting. They started out with a massive infrastructure to support their own business. Gradually they figured out that their own resources are underutilized most of the time. They decided to get the maximum out of the resources they have and hence  they launched their Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) service in 2006. Their products have evolved a lot recently and now it is one of their primary business besides their retail selling. Amazon also offers Big Data services understand Amazon Web Services. Here is the list of the included services: Amazon Elastic MapReduce – It processes very high volumes of data Amazon DynammoDB – It is fully managed NoSQL (Not Only SQL) database service Amazon Simple Storage Services (S3) – A web-scale service designed to store and accommodate any amount of data Amazon High Performance Computing – It provides low-tenancy tuned high performance computing cluster Amazon RedShift – It is petabyte scale data warehousing service Google Though Google is known for Search Engine, we all know that it is much more than that. Google Compute Engine – It offers secure, flexible computing from energy efficient data centers Google Big Query – It allows SQL-like queries to run against large datasets Google Prediction API – It is a cloud based machine learning tool Other Players Besides Amazon and Google we also have other players in the Big Data market as well. Microsoft is also attempting Big Data with the Cloud with Microsoft Azure. Additionally Rackspace and NASA together have initiated OpenStack. The goal of Openstack is to provide a massively scaled, multitenant cloud that can run on any hardware. Thing to Watch The cloud based solutions provides a great integration with the Big Data’s story as well it is very economical to implement as well. However, there are few things one should be very careful when deploying Big Data on cloud solutions.   • Consuming JSON stream into AWS Database on the cheap

    I'm working on a project that needs to consume a JSON stream (approximately 1MB / minute), and parse and insert objects into a database. Amazon's DynamoDB or SimpleDB seem like attractive options for this. Is there a web service that can run a very simple script to eat the data and put it in a database? I could use a worker on Heroku or Elastic Beanstalk, or even pure EC2, but I'd like to find a service that's much cheaper, due to the very low amount of bandwidth and CPU required. (Sorry for the crappy tags. I'm not even sure where to categorize this question.)

  • Q&amp;A: Does it make sense to run a personal blog on the Windows Azure Platform?

    I keep seeing people wanting to do this (or something very similar) and then being surprised at how much it might cost them if they went with Windows Azure. Time for a Q&A. Short answer: No, definitely not. Madness, sheer madness. (Hopefully that was clear enough) Longer answer: No because It would cost you a heck of a lot more than just about any other approach to running a blog. A site that can easily be run on a shared hosting solution (as many blogs do today) does not require the rich capabilities of Windows Azure. Capabilities such as simplified deployed and management, dedicated resources, elastic resources, “unlimited” storage etc. It is simply not the type of application the Windows Azure Platform has been designed for.     I'm trying to deploy a Java Application to AWS free tier. I need the following: RDS provider. Using MySQL client S3 service. This is required for the Lucene Index and image uploading SES service. I need to be able to send emails to new registered users. Namecheap is my domain provider. EC2 instance Elastic Beanstalk instance. I managed to create an EC2 instance, upload the WAR file and link it to the Namecheap domain. However I find it difficult to link the other instances to the current application. I find the documentation a little messy and I can't find the right way to do this. Can you provide a simple walk through to deployment for this use case? Thanks!
