• GUI and non gui difference

  hi guys as i know we have gui and non gui application today. but remember back in the old days there were many application thats kinda like half gui half not . the applications are text based and it has no GUI like what we have now if we were to use java swing library or etc. but you could pretty much select the area that you want using keyboard shortcut . pretty much looks like vim with more features. basically it is text based but not fully gui so my question is how did they do this ? to make the text output persistent and process the data as being inputed non sequentially (non gui typically inputs data non sequentially)

I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly though. This code is resulting in this error: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use 'LimitInternalRecursion' to increase the limit if necessary. Use 'LogLevel debug' to get a backtrace. I have no idea what's causing this. As far as I can see, Mono isn't even hit (no log files are created).

• Method to capture a screenshot of user's browser to aid in bug reporting

  I'm looking for a way to make it easy for technically unsophisticated users to submit screenshots of their browser to me, to aid in debugging web application problems. There will be a button on all pages inside a web application they can use to report problems, which I would like to submit a screenshot (among other things). http://www.snapabug.com/ is very close to what I want, but I need to be able to customize a few things that service won't let me. Production environment is LAMP. I expect there must be something Flash-based that can do this, but I've not been able to find something. Thanks!

  Hi, I've started exploring XUL Runner as a potential tool for an upcoming app. I can get some good examples running using the command line xulrunner-bin myapp. How can compile it all in a native looking application, like SongBird does. I understand SongBird packages the entire xul runtime with it, and I'm happy with that. I'm just wondering is there are any tool I can use to compile my xul project as a standalone app? Any Mac and/or PC hint much appreciated! EDIT: I guess what I'm looking for is a way to generate a Mac and/or PC XUL stub application (but not an installer). Is there something like that? cheers Ben

  I have run into issue when set up IIS 7 Farm for Load balancing. Add 4 server to IIS Farm with appropriate ports(8080,8081,8082,8083). Also add Inbound rule for IIS Farm. The Tomcat instances listens these ports. When i'm opening url(which i set on inbound rule), i got the following exception: The virtual path 'null' maps to another application, which is not allowed.   I've written a couple of tests for a small web app, but I get an error when I try to run the page specific tests that makes use of WicketTester. Google sends me to a mailing list for Apache Wicket, where a user experienced the same exception. He/she said the problem was that AnnotApplicationContextMock was initialized before the Wicket Application. I've pasted my WicketApplication class as well. • Core Location Best Placement and User Interruption

  Hi All, My application uses Core Location in three different views. It's working perfectly. In my first view, I subclass the CLLocationManager and use protocol methods for location updates to my calling class. Before I install the framework and code in my other classes, I was wondering: Is the protocol method the best way? What happens to the Core Location execution if the user exits the view or quits the app while it's trying to get a location fix? Is the location task terminated with the GPS system turned off immediately? If the user simply switches to another view, is it OK to assume that I can start Core Location in the next view without regard to the last? Where should the first update location call be placed. Should the application delegate instantiate the CLLocation Manager class using protocol so that it can update any of the views chosen or should each class instantiate the manager. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

  I found the following in a text file, and I would like to use the Apple Service Diagnostic Application from a bootable USB key but I cannot find where to download it or set it up? Also is this free software or does it require a separate licence? It sounds like it would be a useful tool for diagnosing Mac problems. The Apple Service Diagnostic application is designed to run both EFI and Mac OS X tests from an external USB hard drive. Apple Service Diagnostic (EFI) runs low-level tests of the hardware directly and does not require Mac OS X, while Apple Service Diagnostic (OS) uses Mac OS X to run tests. Booting and Using the Apple Service Diagnostic Application - Before using Apple Service Diagnostic, disconnect any Ethernet network, USB, and audio cables. - With the USB hard drive containing ASD 3S123 plugged into a USB port, restart the computer and hold down the option key as the computer boots up into the Startup Manager. To run ASD (EFI) select the "ASD EFI 3S123" drive icon and press return or select it with a mouse click. To run ASD (OS) select the "ASD OS 3S123" drive icon and press return or select it with a mouse click. ASD (EFI) will load in 20-30 seconds; ASD (OS) will load in 2-3 minutes. - After running ASD (OS) or ASD (EFI), press the Restart button to restart the computer back into the normal startup volume, or hold down the option key to get back to the Startup Manager. ASD is no longer delivered as an image to be restored onto a DVD. ASD 3S117 and newer versions requires installation onto an external USB hard drive.   I'm using the Windows Forms Application settings architecture (or however you're supposed to refer to it) and am successfully saving user settings to AppData. What I want to do is have some settings common to all users of a particular machine and some settings which roam with users across machines. For example I have some settings relating to a peripheral attached to the computer (model, settings etc.) and some user preferences like user interface colours. The colours preferences should roam with the user, but the peripheral settings should stay on the local computer no matter who's logged on. How can I mark these types of settings so that some get stored in /AppData/... and some in /AppData? Note that I don't want Application level settings - each computer the app will be installed on will have different settings. I'm targetting .Net 3.0 if that makes a difference.

• In CAB is a service it's own module?

  I'm learning Composite Application Block and I've hit a rock about services. I have my shell application in its own solution, and of course a test module in its own solution (developed and testing completely independent and external of the shell solution). If I created a service named "Sql Service", would I need to put this in it's own library, so that both the shell, and the module know the types? If that's the case, then for good practice, should I put the service project in the shell solution, or external just like a module (in it's own solution), even though it's not loaded as a module? Then, what about references? Should the shell reference this directly, add then add the service? Or load it as a module and add the service? I have a lot of confusion on where I should create my services, and if I should reference or load as modules..

• How to packing Resources in Maven Project?

  I am looking for suggestion in putting image file maven web project. One of classes under src/main/java need to use an image file. My problem is, if i put image file under src/main/webapp/images then application server cannot find that path on runtime(where myeclipse can ) because war archive do not have specified path "src/main/webapp/images". My question is where should i put the image file that my project can find it without prompting any error or exception. • Clipboard bug in Wordpad in Windows 7 (accidentally pasting large file into application)

  In Win7, I use Wordpad, and I really like it. For my needs it's lean and fast, yet has the formatting functionalities I'm after when working on my TXT/RTF files on a daily basis. I don't intend to change text editors. There's a really bad bug which has ALWAYS plagued me. If you have a large file contained in the clipboard, like a 238MB FLAC file, and you accidentally paste it into Wordpad for whatever reason - it hangs the application for a VERY long time (like 2 hours, it depends on how big the file is, because it tries to 'handle' it). You either have to close the application and lose any unsaved changes, or go do something else until the item has finished pasting into Wordpad (it actually eventually drops the file's icon in wordpad just like how it appears in Windows Explorer). It's a Windows bug, a Wordpad bug. Is there some solution for this? Or is the problem fixed in Windows 8 (if anyone can tell me)? .....I'm not going to try out Win8 myself, merely to answer this question - that's what I'm asking it on SuperUSer for! I'm really hoping it's one of those little-yet-big things that they've fixed in Win8 (like removing the 255-character file path limit in Explorer, which is awesome). Thank you for your help, if you have Win8 handy and can test this. :)

Issue faced:- Clicking on Combobox, list is not getting open as change event doesn’t get fired in Native Window as it looses reference from main application. Issue with DataGrid in Native window (AIR). • DataGridEvent.COLUMN_STRETCH event get affected if try to open datagrid in Native Window. • DataGridEvent get fired but takes long time or even stuck while column stretch Note: Application is an Desktop Application. Only one instance is created in Application for your custom component to preserve current state on your custom component it can be Style, data, or other subcomponent state of your custom component (as above mentioned 2 component are just sample). • Refresh page isnt working in asp.net using treeview

  Hi, I am trying to refresh an asp.net page using this command: <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="10"/> On that page I have 2 treeviews. The refresh works ok when I just open the page, but when I click on one of the treeviews and expand it, the refresh stopps working and the page isnt being refreshed. Any ideas why this can happen? Is there any connection to the treeview being expanded? Then the line e.Cancel = true is executed and the form is not closed. Now the thing is, after this if i close the application from task manager the close reason is UserClosing !!! Why? Shouldn't it be TaskManagerClosing?

  We use Tomcat to host our WAR based applications. We are servlet container compliant J2EE applications with the exception of org.apache.catalina.authenticator.SingleSignOn. We are being asked to move to a commercial J2EE application server. The first downside to changing that I see is the cost. No matter what the charges for the application server, Tomcat is free. Second is the complexity. We don't use either EJB nor EAR features (of course not, we can't), and have not missed them. What then are the benefits I'm not seeing? What are the drawbacks that I haven't mentioned? Mentioned were... JTA - Java Transaction API - We control transaction via database stored procedures. JPA - Java Persistence API - We use JDBC and again stored procedures to persist. JMS - Java Message Service - We use XML over HTTP for messaging. This is good, please more!

  I have a web application under development that I am running locally. The home page of the application is fetched with the following url: http://local.dev/myapp/index.shtml When the app runs, javascript on the webpage maintains the url and the app state internally. Some of the other urls read as: http://local.dev/myapp/results?param1=val1&param2=val2 http://local.dev/myapp/someResource Note that there are no pages named results.html or someResource.html on my web server. They are just made up URLs to simulate RESTfulness in the single page app. All the app code - javascript, css etc - is present in the index.shtml file So, essentially, the question is how can I redirect all requests to the first URL above? • Linux - preventing an application from failing due to lack of disk space [migrated]

  Due to an unpredicted scenario I am currently in need of finding a solution to the fact that an application (which I do not wish to kill) is slowly hogging the entire disk space. To give more context I have an application in Python that uses multiprocessing.Pool to start 5 threads. Each thread writes some data to its own file. The program is running on Linux and I do not have root access to the machine. The program is CPU intensive and has been running for months. It still has a few days to write all the data. 40% of the data in the files is redundant and can be removed after a quick test. The system on which the program is running only has 30GB of remaining disk space and at the current rate of work it will surely be hogged before the program finishes. Given the above points I see the following solutions with respective problems Given that the process number i is writing to file_i, is it safe to move file_i to an external location? Will the OS simply create a new instance of file_i and write to it? I assume moving the file would remove it and the process would end up writing to a "dead" file? Is there a "command line" way to stop 4 of the 5 spawned workers and wait until one of them finishes and then resume their work? (I am sure one single worker thread would avoid hogging the disk) Suppose I use CTRL+Z to freeze the main process. Will this stop all the other processes spawned by multiprocessing.Pool? If yes, can I then safely edit the files as to remove the redundant lines? Given the three options that I see, would any of them work in this context? If not, is there a better way to handle this problem? I would really like to avoid the scenario in which the program crashes just few days before its finish.

  EDIT I need to change www.myhost.com:8080/myproject-war to www.myhost.com. Here is what I've been trying: I configurate the Virtual Server: server. I have still have default Network Listeners to be http-listener-1 and http-listner-2. I change the Default Web Module to ScholarActive#ScholarActive-war.war (The only option in the drop down list, since I only deploy 1 application). For the docroot, I try this ${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/applications/ScholarActive/ScholarActive-war_war or this ${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/applications/ScholarActive/ Both does not work. What does docroot need to point to, for this to work? what I try to do is: when I type localhost:8080/ScholarActive-war, then my application load, I want to make so that if I type locahost:8080, it will load the app as well, then what left is changed the port to 80. But no luck. Any Idea?

• Encrypting peer-to-peer application with iptables and stunnel

  I'm running legacy applications in which I do not have access to the source code. These components talk to each other using plaintext on a particular port. I would like to be able to secure the communications between the two or more nodes using something like stunnel to facilitate peer-to-peer communication rather than using a more traditional (and centralized) VPN package like OpenVPN, etc. Ideally, the traffic flow would go like this: app@hostA:1234 tries to open a TCP connection to app@hostB:1234. iptables captures and redirects the traffic on port 1234 to stunnel running on hostA at port 5678. stunnel@hostA negotiates and establishes a connection with stunnel@hostB:4567. stunnel@hostB forwards any decrypted traffic to app@hostB:1234. In essence, I'm trying to set this up to where any outbound traffic (generated on the local machine) to port N forwards through stunnel to port N+1, and the receiving side receives on port N+1, decrypts, and forwards to the local application at port N. I'm not particularly concerned about losing the hostA origin IP address/machine identity when stunnel@hostB forwards to app@hostB because the communications payload contains identifying information. The other trick in this is that normally with stunnel you have a client/server architecture. But this application is much more P2P because nodes can come and go dynamically and hard-coding some kind of "connection = hostN:port" in the stunnel configuration won't work.

  I have a database table that is a dictionary of defined terms -- key, value. I want to load the dictionary in the application scope from the database, and keep it there for performance (it doesn't change). I gather this is probably some sort of "struct," but I'm extremely new to ColdFusion (helping out another team). Then, I'd like to do some simple string replacement on some strings being output to the browser, looping through the defined terms and replacing the terms with some HTML to define the terms (a hover or a link, details to be worked out later, not important).
