  here is my scenario i have a website where i redirect my users basing upon the device they were using, lets say a user is visiting from an iPad, i take him directly to the page of iPad wallpapers, the user selects iPad version & i take the user to the gallery of wallpapers where the user can select & download any wallpaper. Every wallpaper is the required resolution, i have my reasons for doing this, now the thing is there are diff. resolution. versions of an image appearing one 5 diff. sections of my website, each having their own view page Now there is only one record in db.table for the image, and basing on the my consistent naming convention of the images, i pick the required image. this means when 5 different pages are generated in 5 categorized sections of the website, due to a shared DB record, the keywords, the titles and every single detail of the 5 pages is same besides the resolution of the image, and the section specific details that the page has and yeah the pages also have different paths like wallpapers.com\ipad-1\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-2\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-3\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-4\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-5\cars\Ferrari-dino.html now this is my scenario, How do Search Engines see it and how do they rank it? Is it a Good or Normal or Bad SEO practice? If bad how dangerous it is for my sites SEO? i need your comments on my scenario.

• Qualcomm Gobi WWAN modem no longer appears in Network Manager

  Not sure what happened here. I installed Cinnamon on my Ubuntu 12.10 environment yesterday, rebooted when finished and everything was working fine. I even used my WWAN modem after my fixed line broadband went down. However, after starting my machine this morning and seeing that my fixed line is still having problems (intermittently), I clicked the network applet and my WWAN device wasn't listed. It's not in the main network manager window either. I've no idea where to go from here, does anyone else have any ideas?

• How to interpret number of URL errors in Google webmaster tools

  Recently Google has made some changes to Webmaster tools which are explained below: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2012/03/crawl-errors-next-generation.html One thing I could not find out is how to interpret the number of errors over time. At the end of February we've recently migrated our website and didn't implement redirect rules for some pages (quite a few actually). Here is what we're getting from the Crawl errors: What I don't know is if the number of errors is cumulative over time or not (i.e. if Google bots crawl your website on 2 different days and find 1 separate issue on each day, whether they will report 1 error for each day, or 1 for the 1st, and 2 for the 2nd). Based on the Crawl stats we can see that the number of requests made by Google bots doesn't increase: Therefore I believe the number of errors reported is cumulative and that an error detected on 1 day is taken into account and reported on the subsequent days until the underlying problem is fixed and the page it's crawled again (or if you manually Mark as fixed the error) because if you don't make more requests to a website, there is no way you can check new pages and old pages at the same time. Q: Am I interpreting the number of errors correctly?

  Last week, the Oracle Technology Network Website went fixed-width. There are several reasons for this, most relating to providing a consistent user experience, easier management of Website content, etc. Furthermore, it's fairly standard for developer portals these days - java.sun.com, MSDN, and IBM DeveloperWorks are also all fixed-width sites. (My apologies to everyone who is unhappy about this change, but it really is an overall positive one.) Today, we have rolled out a brand-new header, the first step in what we call the "Mosaic" project - which is an effort to make the user experience across all Oracle Websites more consistent. To summarize the impact: The "pull-down" menus on the OTN site disappear; most of them move into a "flyout" button in the header. You can access the OTN flyout from any page on Oracle.com or the OTN site. Great for our page views. :) You also have direct access to the Downloads index from anywhere on Oracle.com. If you so desire, you can directly access product overviews, Oracle University and Support info, Oracle Store, etc etc from the OTN site now. Due to limited space in the flyout we cannot accommodate *all* the pull-down items, but they are all no more than 1 or 2 clicks away. This approach has been validated in extensive user testing over the last few months; I welcome your feedback now in comments. There are many other changes in train, with the next one being: A major homepage redesign, the first in 4 or 5 years.

• Recommendations for managing DNS issues when hosting customer sites.

  I'm working at a company which primarily provides SaaS products but also will host some of our customers corporate websites. My question relates to recommendations for managing DNS for client's domain names. My objectives: Not restrict my ability to change the server's IP address such as might happen when I move my servers to a new host. Not have to contact the customer to change their domain's DNS if I need to change the server's IP address. Often times, customers lose this information or have to track down the one person with any knowledge of the domain settings. Map both .clientdomain.com and www.clientdomain.com to the proper IIS site. However, I'm running into a couple of common problems: Sometimes, the DNS console provided by the client's hosting company does not allow for CNAME records. Sometimes, the DNS console provided by the client's hosting company will not let me create a CNAME entry for .spiffydomain.com because the given hosting company has created a SOA record for that entry or simply requires that .spiffydomain.com be an A record. I believe one solution to #2 is to use a wildcard for a CNAME entry (i.e. *.spiffydomain.com). Is that correct? How do other folks that are hosting many customer's site manage change of DNS entries on their servers?

  I am currently making use of a Wired Broadband, where in the default Network Manager though shows that the Auto Ethernet is connected, I was unable to browse through any websites in the browser. I had to disconnect & connect the Auto Ethernet several times in the Network Manager or restart Ubuntu to get it fixed. But following these steps is quiet annoying as this issue happens very frequently. I browsed through the internet and got to know that WICD Network Manager fixes this issue. Earlier I have been using Ubuntu 12.04 where the same issue was fixed by making use of WCID Network Manager. Recently I upgraded to 13.10 and as I got the same network issue in default Network Manager, I have installed WICD Network Manager but when I try to open WCID, I get an alert message saying, "Could not connect to wicd's D-Bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages." When I click on OK, I get the same message again and when I click on OK again I get the following message, "Error connecting to wicd service via D-Bus.Please ensure the wicd service is running." Any help to fix this issue is greatly appreciated as this issue was annoying me since I installed 13.10

  A friend of mine is in the process of being scammed by a domain registrar and I am trying to sort out the mess. However I could use a hand understanding some of the details. He paid for 2 years of domain name registration on 6 november 2009. The whois record reads: Domain ID:XXXXXXXXXX Domain Name:XXXXXXXXX.ORG Created On:06-Nov-2009 09:23:12 UTC Last Updated On:17-Dec-2010 00:15:10 UTC Expiration Date:06-Nov-2011 09:23:12 UTC Sponsoring Registrar:OnlineNIC Inc. (R64-LROR) Status:CLIENT TRANSFER PROHIBITED Status:HOLD Status:PENDING DELETE SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE Registrant ID:ONLC-XXXXXXX-X Registrant Name:My friend's name ... Registrant Email:Old email The registrar charged a renewal fee a week ago and is now asking an extra $150 to "reclaim" the domain name, even though the domain name is apparently still in my friend's name and it looks like there is still another 10 months before the expiry date. The expiration date on the WhoIs record looks right (Nov 2011), so I don't understand why the domain status says "PENDING DELETE SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE". Can someone explain me better what the deal is and explain what I need to do get the domain name transfered to a more honest registrar? • Prevent mail flagged as spam when switching mail servers (new SPF records)?

  For our business, we send out a significant amount of newsletter alerts to customers that sign up for it on our website. We used to send this mail directly from our web server via PHP. But because the web server limited us to the number of emails we could send per day, we purchased a VM server at a different host (that doesn't throttle email) and we are going to use that account solely for sending out the emails. Anyways, now that the SPF records are going to be different from what they used to be and the source mail server is different, what steps need to be taken to prevent these emails being flagged as spam? I know in Gmail, it's pretty smart about determining if the person actually sending the email is sending it from the server it expects (for flagging Phishing emails, etc). We don't want that to happen to our emails. Just sending a couple test emails out, Gmail's shows the SPF record saying: Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=neutral (google.com: XXX.XXX.23.176 is neither permitted nor denied by best guess record for domain of [email protected]) [email protected] So is there anything we need to do with regards to SPF records as we move forward?

• Ubuntu 12.04 OpenCL with Intel and Radeon?

  I want to setup my Ubuntu 12.04 with OpenCL(Open Computing Language) support for i7 2600k and Radeon HD5870. My Monitor is connected to the integrated Graphics of the i7. Intel OpenCL SDK is installed and working. Iteration of avaliable OpenCL devices shows 2 entries for Intel. As recommended I installed AMD APP SDK 2.6 first and then the fglrx driver. I installed fglrx from Ubuntu repositories. This works fine till here. When I run aticonfig --inital -f and restart the system I get into trouble. • Screen problems on 11.10 using VGA compatible controller 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller

  I am having problems with my display. The problem manifests as lots of screen artefacts, which seem to be worse in Unity than in Gnome 3, are worse after i have used suspend and are intolerable if i set myself up on a dual monitor. Specific issues include: icons disappearing, lines occurring all over the screen, the backgrounds of certain windows going another colour and window borders disappearing or being filled with text from other parts of the screen. The most annoying problem is lines of text disappearing from a host of word processing programmes (libreoffice, gedit, bluefish etc), as i type. In most circumstances the screen problem can be temporarily fixed (so that i can see the screen clearly) by either scrolling the text off the screen and then scrolling it back onto the screen, or highlighting the offending area of the desktop, by clicking and dragging. Errors on parts of the screen that don't seem to redraw (window borders (off the universal menu) or the screen area outside of a LO document, in print layout view, for example) can't seem to be fixed in a session. • Wifi not working on Acer Aspire One D270

  brand new baby linux user here, never used Ubuntu or any other linux OS before, so be gentle and use short words! I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my new Acer Aspire One D270-F61C/KF netbook (it's a Japanese computer which had Japanese windows preinstalled, and I decided to take the plunge and try Ubuntu because English Windows costs the earth and stars). Wifi isn't working; I enter my wireless password, it tries to connect for a while, then asks for my password again. And KEEPS ASKING, every few minutes. Wired connection works fine. Wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4313; I have the "additional drivers" checked and installed (I tried unchecking and then reinstalling them in case that would help, no joy, and now my home wifi connection isn't showing up in the list of available connections, argh). I've done a lot of googling and I gather there's a lot of issues with Broadcom cards, but some of the answers are for earlier ubuntu builds and many of them are a bit confusing for a new user. I gather I need to try installing some new drivers other than the proprietary ones provided, but I'm having trouble figuring out how that's done. Anyone got some simple, step by step instructions for me? Please bear in mind, TOTAL N00B. (EDIT): OKAY, got it fixed finally; after suggestions on the Ubuntu forums and messing around with drivers, what finally worked was installing Wicd. Not... using Wicd, for some reason, just installing it fixed it. ...I CHOOSE NOT TO QUESTION IT.

• How does a one-man developer do its games' sounds?

  Before anything, that's not a "oh, where can I find resources?" question. Well, I've been curious about one thing in the indie games industry. For the development of the game, such tasks like game design, art, sketches, code programming and etc can be easily done by just one person. You can just take up a paper and pencil and you're a game designer. You can just take software like Photoshop or Paint and you're an artist, a scanner and you're a sketcher, a compiler and you're a programmer. For sound it's different. You may tell me: Well, follow the line, take a lot of instruments and record it. But all we know that things don't work this way. I can list up some changes for us: External noises are a big problem, sound effects can't be made with instruments, it can't sound like a recorded and clipped sound. Well I can imagine how they do this in large companies, with such big studios and etc. But to summarise, my question is: What's the best way for a one-man indie to do all its sound? Does he have to synthesize everything? Record and buy some crazy program for editing sounds?

• Isolating test data in acceptance tests

  I'm looking for guidance on how to keep my acceptance tests isolated. Right now the issue I'm having with being able to run the tests in parallel is the database records that are manipulated in the tests. I've written helpers that take care of doing inserts and deletes before tests are executed, to make sure the state is correct. But now I can't run them in parallel against the same database without uniquely generating the test data fields for each test. For example. Testing creating a row i'll delete everything where column A = foo and column B = bar Then I'll navigate through the UI in the test and create a record with column A = foo and column B = bar. Testing that a duplicate row is not allowed to be created. I'll insert a row with column A = foo and column B = bar and then use the UI to try and do the exact same thing. This will display an error message in the UI as expected. These tests work perfectly when ran separately and serially. But I can't run them at the same time for fear that one will create or delete a record the other is expecting. Any tips on how to structure them better so they can be run in parallel?

• ClearTrace Supports Statement Level Events

  One of the requests I get on a regular basis is to capture the performance of statement level events.  The latest beta has this feature available.  If you’re interested in this I’d like to get some feedback. I handle the SP:StmtCompleted and the SQL:StmtCompleted events.  These report CPU, reads, writes and duration. I’m not in any way saying it’s a good idea to trace these events.  Use with caution as this can make your traces much larger. If there are statement level events in the trace file they will be processed.  However the query screen displays batch level *OR* statement level events.  If it did both we’d be double counting. I don’t have very many traces with statement completed events in them.  That means I only did limited testing of how it parses these events.  It seems to work well so far though.  Your feedback is appreciated. If you ever write loops or cursors in stored procedures you’re going to get huge trace files.  Be warned. I also fixed an annoying bug where ClearTrace would fail and tell you a value had already been added.  This is a result of the collection I use being case-sensitive and SQL Server not being case-sensitive.  I thought I had properly coded around that but finally realized I hadn’t.  It should be fixed now.
