• How to point subdomain to a nameserver?

  I've got an old crusty WHM/cPanel server which I'm trying to get rid of. I've got a new setup on shared hosting which is much cheaper in the long run. The problem is that there are a bunch of websites on the server whose domains I don't have access to. They're currently pointing to name servers of my domain (ns.mydomain.com), but the new provider has their own name servers (ns.provider.com) which I have to use instead. My initial idea was to set up a CNAME to point my name server to my provider's: ns.mydomain.com CNAME ns.provider.com, but I read in this question that this would be a bad idea. The accepted answer suggests using an A record instead, and I want to make sure how this would work. Assuming ns.provider.com has an IP address of 123.123.123.123, is it just a matter of doing ns.mydomain.com A 123.123.123.123? Is there any way the provider could block those requests as the name server domain technically doesn't belong to them?

• Mail Server on Google Apps, Hotmail Blocks

  My company provides private research tools (sites) for companies. Each site has its own domain name and users. These sites need to be able to send outbound mail for notifications such as password reminders. We started using Google Apps for this purpose, but lately we are having tremendous problems with mailing, especially to hotmail. I added the SPF record as required. Mxtoolbox says my domains are not in any blacklists. I was told to contact https://postmaster.live.com/snds/addnetwork.aspx and add my network. Given that I am using google's mail servers for sending mail, should I add their IP address for registering my domain? Or should I add my server's IP even though I am not hosting the mail server on it?   i,v been searching the internet for a real noop tutorial on the subject but could not found any direct info. on how to edit these files the proper way. i,v got a debian internet server that i use to host some personal domains and runs squid and rTorrent. the server is up and running with no problems but i am confused about a few things. lets say that i named my server (foo), my domain is (example.com) and my public IP is 95.211.133.200 now: should /etc/hostname contains: tango.example.com or tango <----- just the server name should /etc/hosts contains: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 95.211.133.200 foo.example.com foo should /etc/resolf.conf contains (along with the nameservers) both: domain example.com search example.com or just the first one. are there any other files that i should edit in order to make things right? last thing, the command: domainname returns: (none) i believe it should return (example.com). what should i do to correct that?

  Hi somebody please help me out, I've asked this at stackoverflow as well but not got much of a response and was debating whether it was programming or server related. I’m trying to setup a cakephp environment on a Centos server running Nginx with Fact CGI. I already have a wordpress site running on the server and a phpmyadmin site so I have PHP configured correctly. My problem is that I cannot get the rewrite rules setup correct in my vhost so that cake renders pages correctly i.e. with styling and so on. • Vhost in Apache only working locally?

  Ok, I have added lines like: 127.0.0.1 somedomain.com Or some other domain that points to my routers IP, and is forwarded, but I get to the main site, but I want it to go to the subfolder I defined in my httpd-vhosts.conf: NameVirtualHost somedomain.com:80 <VirtualHost somedomain.com:80> DocumentRoot "D:/Apps/xampp/htdocs/somedomain" ServerName somedomain.com ServerAlias somedomain.com </VirtualHost> So, locally somedomain.com works, just remotely it goes to the root htdocs. So If I use a *:80 wildcard I works, but then everything points to the subfolder and all the other vhosts seem to get ignored. Any Idea why this is?

In my host i have configured subdomain's (vhost.conf) with proxypass to connect with VM machine.. I can access sourceforge VM with http. I am searching for http redirecting to https. http://xxx.mydomain.com -- https://xxx.mydomain.com/sf/sfmain/do/home/ . just need to know, If I own a SSL for mydomain.com. if i redirect a xxx.mydomain.com to mydomain.com/folder will the SSL will be applied to redirected domain? i.e mydomain.com/folder?

• htaccess rewrite condition old site to new site with querystring

  I am not even going to pretend to fully understand how htaccess rewrite conditions work. I've been working on this for a while searching and searching. I have an old Wordpress site www.old-site.com and a new site www.site.com. Wordpress uses query strings page_id=# to redirect to pages. On the old site page_id=2 went to a specific page but on the new site it goes the the home page. I need old-site/?page_id=2 to go to site.com/our-company Here is what I am trying RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?old-site.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^page_id=2$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.site.com/our-company/ [R=301,L] If I take out the rewrite condition for query string it redirects all traffic from old-site.com to the company page on the new site. Where am I going wrong? I have about 15 redirects I need to do this way.

  I'm a little bit lost with a redirection. I want mysite.com, www.mysite.com and www.mysite.co.uk to redirect to mysite.co.uk. In Apache, I wrote this for mysite.co.uk in order to redirect www to the root domain: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://mysite.co.uk/$1 [L,R=301] And for mysite.com, I wrote this redirect to mysite.co.uk: ServerName www.mysite.com RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://mysite.co.uk/$1 [L,R=301] This way, I can make the redirection work properly from www.mysite.com to mysite.co.uk, but it doesn't work for mysite.com too mysite.co.uk (without the www) at the same time. Could someone tell me how to make all my redirections work in all cases?

• Is setting an empty/blank DNS A record allowed?

  I'm trying to wrap my head around the wonderful world on DNS. I have created a zone file for example.com which contains: @ A 1.2.3.4 * A 1.2.3.4 However I am also setting up my local DNS, local.example.com which I have created a separate zone file for containing the following: machine1 A 192.168.0.1 machine2 A 192.168.0.2 When I dig machine1.local.example.com it returns A record 192.168.0.1, great. Sadly, badmachine.local.example.com returns 1.2.3.4, as does local.example.com. I'm not sure of the best way to prevent this. If I add the following to the local.example.com empty A records are returned for the above 2 examples as is the behaviour I desire: @ A * A Is this allowed? Is this best practice, or am I doing things terribly wrong? I'm using PowerDNS with BIND backend. Thanks for your thoughts!

• Can't access link in network using fully qualified domain name

  I have installed windows server 2003 and configured Domain controller (domain name - xyz.com) and DNS service. for that I have configured fully qualified domain name as server.xyz.com also I have installed apache tomcat with port 8080 on that server and accessed link successfully using "http://localhost:8080", "http://ip address of server:8080", "http://server.xyz.com:8080". but its working for local machine, and when I tried to access it from another machine in same network using "http://ip address of server:8080" its worked for me. but when I tried it using fully qualified domain name i.e. "http://server.xyz.com:8080" it's giving me error, "Could not connect to server.xyz.com" Please guide me getting this setup done. I need to be able to access this link "http://ip address of server:8080" as "http://server.xyz.com:8080" outside my network Any suggestion are highly appreciated..

  I was wondering how to make a simple redirection, I've got WAMP installed on my computer and I wish I could do that: When I go to abc.com it redirects to xyz.com. I did this in the httpd.conf file, but it isn't working. It seems to work now, but only when I go to localhost. However, what I want is that when I go to abc.com it goes to xyz.com, and I can't do that. • Facebook require_login() in iFrame App

  Hi, I have serious problem with iframe application. I need to use many external JS libraries and other dynamic stuuf so FMBL application can't be done. When I call require_login() I get applicaition installing dialog when app is not already installed, which is ok. But then after authorization application enters an endless redirect loop with parameters like auth_token, installed and so. Yesterday I managed to fix this, but today it's broken again... What the heck is happening with FB? It's driving me crazy to find a sollution, none of ones found on net doesn't seem to be working. • Audio Recording with Appcelerator on Android

  I would like to record audio and then send the file to a webserver. I am using Titanium 1.8.2 on Win7. The application I am woring on is both for Android and iphone and I do realise that Titanium.Media.AudioRecorder and Titanium.Media.AudioPlayer are for these purpose. Let's concentrate on android for a while. On that platform you can achieve audio recording by creating an intent and then you handle the file in your application. See more here. This implementation has a couple of drawbacks: You cannot stay in your application (as a native audio recorder will start up) You only get back an uri from the recorder and not the actual file. Another implementation is done by Codeboxed. This module is for recording an audio without using intents. The only problem that I could not get this working (along with other people) and the codeboxed team does not respond to anyone since last year. So my question is: Do you know how to record audio on android without using an intent? Thanks in advance. Edit: My problem with codeboxed's module: I downloaded the module from here. I copied the zip file into my project directory. The developers on the Superexpert team spent the last sprint focusing on improving this control. There are three important changes that we made to the Calendar control: we added support for date ranges, we added support for highlighting today’s date, and we made fixes to several bugs related to time zones and daylight savings. Highlighted Today’s Date Another highly requested feature for the Calendar control was support for highlighting today’s date. The Calendar control now highlights the user’s current date regardless of the user’s time zone. Fixes to Time Zone and Daylight Savings Time Bugs We fixed several significant Calendar extender bugs related to time zones and daylight savings time. For example, previously, when you set the Calendar control’s SelectedDate property to the value 1/1/2007 then the selected data would appear as 12/31/2006 or 1/1/2007 or 1/2/2007 depending on the server time zone. For example, if your server time zone was set to Samoa (UTC-11:00), then setting SelectedDate=”1/1/2007” would result in “12/31/2006” being selected in the Calendar. Users of the Calendar extender control found this behavior confusing. After careful consideration, we decided to change the Calendar extender so that it interprets all dates as UTC dates. In other words, if you set StartDate=”1/1/2007” then the Calendar extender parses the date as 1/1/2007 UTC instead of parsing the date according to the server time zone. By interpreting all dates as UTC dates, we avoid all of the reported issues with the SelectedDate property showing the wrong date. Furthermore, when you set the StartDate and EndDate properties, you know that the same StartDate and EndDate will be selected regardless of the time zone associated with the server or associated with the browser. The date 1/1/2007 will always be the date 1/1/2007. The New Twitter Control This release of the Ajax Control Toolkit introduces a new twitter control. You can use the Twitter control to display recent tweets associated with a particular twitter user. You also can use this control to show the results of a twitter search.
