  • Figuring out Host's Top Domain with Javascript

    Is there a way to figure out what the top domain for the hostname of the current page is? The problem I have is that the script could be on .com domain, or in an international domain like .co.uk So for: jobs.telegraph.co.uk - top domain is:telegraph.co.uk jobs.nytimes.com - top domain is nytimes.com The problem is that location.hostname , and the document.domain give the entire domain. One route is to have a list of all TLDs (too much to carry around) and parse based on that. Another route was if 2 characters after last ".", than internationaltion - hence last two are the TLD, but that does not hold true for all international domains.

  • Resizing iframe height using javascript issue

    I have an iframe which content is a php-file, and that php-file displays some mysql records. The more records, the larger the iframe height should get, otherwise it wont show all of the information in the iframe. Here is a code I have for dynamically setting the iframe height, from the iframes content (the php file): var x = document.body.scrollHeight; x = x + 20 + 'px'; window.parent.document.getElementById("iframe001").style.height=x; iframe001 is the iframe I am referring to above. I am adding 20px of height extra because of borders etc... Now, sometimes this resizing works, sometimes it doesn't. Does anybody know why it works sometimes. If I alert the 'x' variable, it shows different values sometimes, but most times it works. Any other ways you know of setting the iframes height from the content of the iframe? Thanks

    I have the following address which is in a paragraph with no great way to select the individual text areas within. I do not have access to this code. I want to extract out each line and put the text values in a variable for each type. Not sure what would be the best way to do it. Use .split('<br>') ? then use .split('&nbsp;') to separate the state from the zip same with city and state I am a little lost here. Here are the variables I would like. company name, person's name, address1, city, state, country, zip code, phone, Here is the paragraph that i have.     I'm writing a Firefox addon that is triggered whenever a word is highlighted. However I need a script that detects when a word is highlighted, and I'm stuck. An example would be nytimes.com (when you're reading an article and you highlight a word, the reference icon pops up). However the nytimes.com script is super complex. I'm 16 and not much of a programmer, so that is definitely way out of my league.

  • Established javascript solution for secure registration & authentication without SSL

    Is there any solution for secure user registration and authentication without SSL? With "secure" I mean safe from passive eavesdropping, not from man-in-the-middle (I'm aware that only SSL with signed certificate will reach this degree of security). The registration (password setup, i.e. exchanging of pre-shared keys) must be also secured without SSL (this will be the hardest part I guess). I prefer established and well tested solution. If possible, I don't want to reinvent the wheel and make up my own cryptographic protocols. Thanks in advance.

Also is there a way I can send the tags to a "class" attribute instead of "name". It seems to not work in Safari.

    Without getting into the "should a text resizer be used or not" debate, I'd like some help with this...suffice to say that my clientele are from and older generation and may be sight impaired... My script isn't functioning, and I'm not sure why. If you have a plain html input type=text with a small width eg 20 and then type more characters than can be displayed, it shows the last characters you type. And the first ones are scrolled out of view: This is my long text // this is the whole string my long string // this is what is actually visible in the input box How do I make it so that when you hit tab, the view area resets so that the start of the string is visible and the end is hidden? my long string // this is what is visible in the input box when typing This is my // this is what is I want to be visible in the input box after you hit tab What do you call this, and how do you do it?

    Hi, so I know there are tons of ways to simulate inheritance and other OO features. I have chosen one to use for my project and am wondering if I can create an instance and add stuff to it and keep it contained (within braces). Consider the following: function BaseClass(){ <this.stuff here> } function SubClass(){ this.superClass = BaseClass(); this.superClass(); <this.other stuff here> } myObj = new SubClass(); so myObj is an instance of SubClass. I can add things to myObj like: myObj.blah = "funtimes"; What I would like is to be able to add stuff to the "instance" and keep it organized in braces much like the constructor. psuedo code like: myObj = new SubClass() { var blah = "funtimes" <more instance specific stuff here> } Is something like this possible?     parseInt("7em", 10); returns 7 in all browsers I tested [*]. But can I rely on this? The reason I ask is, that I want to perform some calculations based on em, like /* elem1.style.top uses em units */ elem2.style.top = parseInt(elem1.style.top, 10) + 1 + "em"; I could do this with regular expressions, but parseInt is easier to use, and probably a bit faster. Or is there another solution (maybe using jQuery)? [*] Tested so far on: IE 6, IE 8, Safari 4, Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.5

  • How to save text to a div using JavaScript onmouseout

    Good morning all. I have a div that I'm able to save text to when I click a save button but what I would like is if the text would just automatically save on an onmouseout event. For example: I have a div and two buttons (Save and Cancel). The user is currently able to mouse over the current text data inside the div, click on the text and they can then edit said text. The only way they can save this text is by clicking the save button. Is there a way to use onmouseout to save the text so that the user simply has to click and edit the text, then click away and have it saved? Thanks!

    Does anyone know how to get the HTML out of an IFRAME? I have tried several different ways: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentDocument.body.innerHTML, document.frames['iframe01'].document.body.innerHTML, document.getElementById('iframe01').contentWindow.document.body.innerHTML, etc but none of them worked. I believe the reason they're not working is that the content of my iframe doesn't have a body tag (I'm loading XML). Any other way to get all the contents of the iframe? I am open to jQuery too. This: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentWindow.document.body.innerHTML works fine in the IE, but this: document.getElementById('iframe01').contentDocument.body.innerHTML does not work for FF.

  • JavaScript, iPhone: Repeat Action while Holding Button

    I am working on a website which I would like to work on iPhones, however I want it so they can tap and hold a button and have it continue firing the onclick event. I got it to work in other browsers, but the iPhone is the only one that will need to hold down the button. Is there a way to repeat a function when holding down the button? Thanks.
