    Is there a commonly accepted terminology for various types for common functors? For instance I found myself naturally using comparitor for comparison functors like this: struct ciLessLibC : public std::binary_function<std::string, std::string, bool> { bool operator()(const std::string &lhs, const std::string &rhs) const { return strcasecmp(lhs.c_str(), rhs.c_str()) < 0 ? 1 : 0; } }; Or using the term deltor for something like this: struct DeleteAddrInfo { void operator()(const addr_map_t::value_type &pr) const { freeaddrinfo(pr.second); } }; If using these kinds of shorthand terms is common, it there some dictionary of them all someplace?

  • Declaring an object of a conditional type with a System.Type

    I am attempting to launch a specific form depending on the selected node of a treeview on the doubleclick event. The code I need to use to launch the form is a little bulky becuase I have to ensure that the form is not disposed, and that the form is not already open, before launching a new instance. I'd like to have all of this checking happen in one place at the end of the function, which means that I have to be able to pass the right form type to the code at the end. I'm trying to do this with a System.Type, but that doesn't seem to be working. Could someone point me in the right direction, please? The service layer is unaware of the clients that utilitize its methods. Is it fine to propagate raw http requests into the service layer? Or is it bad practice and a violation of the loose coupling principles? If it is, then what's a clean workaround?

  • Android AudioRecorder object wont read from microphone.

    I'm trying to build a voip application on a new android device, i use AudioRecorder to read the microphone but I'm getting no valid results, just white noise. This happen only on this new device(other work well) and this is probably because this device has PTT ability.     Suppose I have two lists that holds the list of source file names and destination file names respectively. The Sourcefilenamelist has files as 1.txt, 2.txt,3.txt, 4.txt while the Destinaitonlist has 1.txt,2.txt. I ned to write a linq query to find out which files are in SourceList that are absent in DestinationFile list. e.g. here the out put will be 3.txt and 4.txt. I have done this by a foreach statement.. but now I want to do the same by using LINQ(C#). Help needed. Thanks

Coming back to it I'm seeing this pattern all over the place: ratingBar.setOnRatingBarChangeListener(new OnRatingBarChangeListener() { public void onRatingChanged(RatingBar ratingBar, float rating, boolean fromUser) { // do work } }); This looks more like Functional programming to me. It's a nice pattern but how is it possible to pass a method like this? In the old days a class was a class, and once compiled there was little you could do to it. My questions are: Can anyone let me know what this pattern is called? How can I write a class that can be instantiated in this way. Are there any other useful examples of functional patterns that have made their way into Java? What do I need to Google to read more about this? Thanks.

  • Object model design choice

    I am currently working on a ASP.NET MVC reporting application using C#. This is a redesign from a PHP application that was just initially thrown together and is now starting to gain some more traction. SowWe are in the process of reworking the backend to have a more OO approach. One of the descisions I am currently wrestling with is how to structure the domain objects. Since 95% of the site is readonly I am not sure if the typical approaches are practical. Should I create domain objects for the primary pieces of the application (ticket, assignment, assignee) and then create static methods off of these areas to pull the reporting data? Or should I just skip that part and create the chart data classes and have some get method off of these classes? It's not a real big application and currenlty I am the only one developing on it. But I feel torn as to which approach. I feel that the first one is the better choice but maybe overkill given that the majority of uses is for aggregate reporting. Anybody have some good insight on why I should go one way or another?

    Im currently optimizing a PHP application and found one function being called around 10-20k times, so I'd thought I'd start optimization there. function keysToLower($obj) { if(!is_object($obj) && !is_array($obj)) return $obj; foreach($obj as $key=>$element) { $element=keysToLower($element); if(is_object($obj)) { $obj->{strtolower($key)}=$element; if(!ctype_lower($key)) unset($obj->{$key}); } else if(is_array($obj) && ctype_upper($key)) { $obj[strtolower($key)]=$element; unset($obj[$key]); } } return $obj; } Most of the time is spent in recursive calls (which are quite slow in PHP), but I don't see any way to convert it to a loop. What would you do?
