Hello.
I came across a program with 10 header and 10 source files. I read in my text book that the functions are called from main. But how can I pass data to so many functions from main()?

No matter what, I can't get this stupid progress bar to update from a thread!

I have a Windows app written in C (using gcc/MinGW) that works pretty well except for a few UI problems. One, I simply cannot get the progress bar to update from a thread. In fact, I probably can't get ANY UI stuff to update. Basically, I have a spawned thread that does some processing, and from that thread I attempt to update the progress bar in the main thread. I tried this by using PostMessage() to the main hwnd, but no luck even though I can do other things like open message boxes. However, it's unclear whether the message box is getting called within the thread or on the main thread. How to load image in correct pixel depth

I have a bunch of monochrome (1bpp) PNG images I want to load, and pass to pdfSharp. Using Image.FromFile loads images fine, but it alawys uses 32BPP, regardless of the pixel depth of the file. That results in very large PDF files generated. Is there a way to load images in their native pixel depth?Read the article

iphone scrolling ticker example?

The comments would obviously need to be pulled from a central web source - either a database or perhaps even simple flat files. Any way in C++ to forward declare a function prototype?

I make regular use of forward class declarations and pointers to such classes. I now have a need to pass a function pointer through a number of layers. I would prefer to include the header that declares my function pointer's prototype only into the module that dereferences a function pointer rather than into each layer that simply passes along that pointer value. Is it any loose coupling mechanism in Objective-C + Cocoa like C# delegates or C++Qt signals+slots?

Hello. For a large programs, the standard way to chalenge a complexity is to divide a program code into small objects. Most of the actual programming languages offer this functionality via classes, so is Objective-C. But after source code is separated into small object, the second challenge is to somehow connect them with each over. Standard approaches, supported by most languages are compositon (one object is a member field of another), inheritance, templates (generics) and callbacks. More cryptic techniques include method-level delagates (C#) and signals+slots (C++Qt). I like the delegates / signals idea, since while connecting two objects i can connect individual methods with each over, without objects knowing anything of each over. For C#, it will look like this: var object1 = new CObject1(); var object2 = new CObject2(); object1.SomethingHappened += object2.HandleSomething; In this code, is object1 calls it's SomethingHappened delegate (like a normal method call) the HandleSomething method of object2 will be called. For C++Qt, it will look like this: var object1 = new CObject1(); var object2 = new CObject2(); connect( object1, SIGNAL(SomethingHappened()), object2, SLOT(HandleSomething()) ); The result will be exactly the same. This technique has some advantages and disadvantages, but generally i like it more than interfaces since if program code base grows i can change connections and add new ones without creating tons of interfaces. After examination of Objective-C i havn't found any way to use this technique i like :(. It seems that Objective-C supports message passing perfectly well, but it requres for object1 to have a pointer to object2 in order to pass it a message. If some object needs to be connected to lots of other objects, in Objective-C i will be forced to give him pointers to each of the objects it must be connected. So, the question :). Is it any approach in Objective-C programming that will closely resemble delegate / signal+slot types of connection, not a 'give first object an entire pointer to second object so it can pass a message to it'. Method-level connections are a bit more preferable to me than object-level connection ^_^.Read the article

Using a WebView widget to authorize access

I am trying to access a server that requires authorization using the WebView widget in Android. I think it's the .htaccess type of authorization. I works with the default browser provided with the OS, but when I try it with a WebView.. it gives a 401 immediately. Should $new_link be used in mysql_connect()?

I'm maintaining an inherited site built on Drupal. We are currently experiencing "too many connections" to the database. In the /includes/database.mysql.inc file, @mysql_connect($url['host'], $url['user'], $url['pass'], TRUE, 2) (mysql_connect() documentation) is used to connect to the database. Should $new_link = TRUE be used? My understanding is that it will "always open a new link." Could this be causing the "too many connections"?Read the article

passing LIMIT as parameters to MySQL sproc

I'm creating a paging class and need to pass in two parameters to my MySQL stored procedure for the LIMIT clause. I'm passing them in as INTs and trying something like this SELECT * FROM `MyTable` LIMIT MyFirstParamInt, MySecondParamInt it gives me an error when I try and save the sproc though. exclude private property from print_r or object?

Basically I am using Code Igniter, and the Code Igniter base class is huge, when I print_r some of my objects they have the base class embedded inside them. this makes it a pain to get the information I actually wanted (the rest of the properties). So, I am wondering if there is a way I can hide, or remove the base class object?
