• Lighttpd not cleanly restarting (address already in use)

  When doing a dist-upgrade recently, my lighttpd-1.4.19 install on Ubuntu 8.0.4 has begun failing to restart or reload properly with the /etc/init.d/lighttpd restart command. ~$ sudo /etc/init.d/lighttpd restart * Stopping web server lighttpd ...done. * Starting web server lighttpd 2009-06-13 04:06:36: (network.c.300) can't bind to port: 80 Address already in use ...fail! The same error occurs when I do a reload. The way I get around it is to kill lighttpd and then issue the start command, but it seems like I shouldn't have to do that :) I've looked at my config files, and can't spot any immediate errors. Does anyone have any ideas what can be causing this error? This seems to be the latest version as of writing this question that is available via the apt-get route.   I have a virtualhost setup with usecanonicalname off. I have ServerName domain.com set and ServerAlias *.domain.com in the virtualhost. Using apache2's %v LogFormat string will only capture domain.com, and I'm trying to get it to capture foo.domain.com so I can split logs accordingly. • Improve Playback Using Enhancements in Windows Media Player 12

  Are you looking for ways to improve the playback of your media in Windows Media Player 12? We’ll show you how to do that by using the enhancements in WMP 12. If you are in Library mode, you’ll need to click the icon at the lower right to switch to Now Playing mode. Right-click anywhere in Media Player while in Now Playing mode, select Enhancements, and select any of the available options.   You can switch between the individual enhancements by clicking the right and left buttons at the top left.   Crossfading and Auto Volume Leveling The Auto Volume Leveling setting is just a simple toggle on and off. If your MP3 or WMA files have volume leveling information values.   You can automatically add volume leveling information values to all files you add to your library by switching to Library view, going to Tools > Options, and selecting Add volume leveling information values for new files on the Library tab. Click OK when finished.   Crossfading will gradually decrease the volume of the song that is ending (fade out) and increase volume of the song that is beginning. Click Turn on Crossfading and then click and drag the slider left or right change the amount of overlap between tracks. Graphic Equalizer The graphic equalizer is toggled on and off by clicking Turn on / Turn off at the top left. You can select pre-defined equalizer settings by music genre by clicking the Default list. The radio buttons on the left allow you to move the sliders individually, in a loose group or a tight group. You can always return to the default settings by clicking Reset. Play Speed Settings Choose a pre-defined settings by clicking Slow, Normal, or Fast. Uncheck the Snap slider to common speeds the move the slider right and left to your desired speed. If nothing else, these settings provide a little fun and amusement. Quiet Mode Quiet mode will level out any sharp volume highs and lows within a single track. Simply toggle the setting on or off and select whether you prefer Medium difference or Little difference by selecting one of the radio buttons. SRS WOW effects SRS WOW effects enhance low-frequency and stereo sound performance. Click Turn on to enable the TruBass and WOW Effect sliders. You can also optimize for your speaker type. Click to switch between Regular, Large, and Headphones. Video Settings Video Settings allow you to adjust the Hue, Brightness, Saturation, and Contrast.   You can also adjust the zoom settings by clicking Select video zoom settings.   Dolby Digital Settings Choose between Normal, Night, and Theater settings to adjust the audio for Dolby Digital content. • Integrated webcam in lenovo t410 not working with 12.04

  I have a Lenovo T410 with an inbuilt webcam and I haven't been able to get the webcam working. I tried skype, cheese, both just give me a black window. The microphone works fine with skype, by the way. Can anyone provide any clues please? The webcam is enabled in the bios, but there is no light indicating the webcam is on (not sure if there should be, though). I tried this on Kubuntu 11.10 and have upgraded to 12.04 with the same results. The Fn-F6 keyboard combination doens't seem to do anything either. EDIT: I got the webcam replaced, it looks like it was a hardware problem, because it works fine now. • PCI-DSS compliance for business with only swipe terminals [migrated]

  I support the IT infrastructure for a small retail business which is now required to undergo a PCI-DSS assessment. The payment service and terminal provider (Streamline) has asked that we use Trustwave to do the PCI-DSS certification. The problem I face is that if I answer all questions and follow Trustwave's requirements to the letter, we will have to invest significantly in networking equipment to segment LANs and /or do internal vulnerability scanning, while at the same time Streamline assures me that the terminals we have (Verifone VX670-B and MagIC3 X-8) are secure, don't store any credit card information and are PCI-DSS compliant so by implication we don't need to take any action to ensure their network security. I'm looking for any suggestions as to how we can most easily meet the networking requirements for PCI-DSS. Some background on our current network setup: single wired LAN, also with WiFi turned on (though if this creates any PCI-DSS complexities we can turn it off). single Netgear ADSL router. This is the only firewall we have in place, and the firewall is out the box configuration (i.e. no DMZ, SNMP etc). Passwords have been changed though :-) a few windows PCs and 2 windows based tills, none of which ever see any credit card information at all. two swipe terminals. Until a few months ago (before we were told we had to be PCI-DSS certified) these terminals did auth/capture over the phone. Streamline suggested we moved to their IP Broadband service, which instead uses an SSL encrypted channel over the internet to do auth/capture, so we now use that service. We don't do any ecommerce or receive payments over the internet. All transactions are either cardholder present, or MOTO with details given over phone and typed direct into terminal. We're based in the UK. As I currently understand it we have three options in order to get PCI-DSS certification. segment our network so the POS terminals are isolated from all PCs, and set up internal vulnerability scanning on that network. don't segment the network, and have to do more internal scanning and have more onerous management of PCs than I think we need (for example, though the tills are Windows based, they are fully managed so I have no control over software update policies, anti virus etc). All PCs have anti virus (MSE) and windows updates automatically applied, but we don't have any centralised go back to auth/capture over phone lines. I can't imagine we are the first merchant to be in this situation. I'm looking for any recommendations a simple, cost effective way to be PCI-DSS compliant - either by doing 1 or 2 above with (hopefully) simple and inexpensive equipment/software, or any other ways if there's a better way to do this. Or... should we just go back to the digital stone age and do auth/capture over the phone, which means we don't need to do anything on our network to be PCI-DSS certified?

  I'm creating a mobile landing page and I have also created a form that allows me to create more, by duplicating a folder that's host to a template file. The script then takes you to a page where you input the company details one by one and press submit. Then the page is created. My problem is, when a field is left out (YouTube for instance), the button is created and is blank. I would like there to be a default text for when there is no text. • Problems with MGCP proxy creation

  Hi, I'm trying to bypass my ISP router with my FreeBSD server (I've an optical connection so I've a RJ45 used to connect the box to WAN) Internet and TV are working fine (Using igmpproxy to forward TV stream) but I've a problem with phone. ISP's box is connected to the server which gives it a LAN address. The problem is that when the box builds MGCP packets (and especially SDP ones) it uses its LAN address. So I've think of writing an UDP proxy to handle MGCP and SDP packets in order to replace LAN address with server WAN address and then forward packet to WAN. Before starting coding I've captured stream packets using my server as a bridge between WAN connection and the ISP's box. And, in order to see if my solution is viable, I've tried to send those packets to the box using nemesis. I tried to send a packet (found in capture) containing an endpoint audit: AUEP 1447 aaln/[email protected] MGCP 1.0 F: A In the wireshark capture the box replied: 200 1447 OK A: a:PCMU;PCMA;G726-16;G726-24;G726-32;G726-40;G.723.1-5.3;G.723.1-6.3;G729;TELEPHONE-EVENT, fmtp:"TELEPHONE-EVENT 0-15,144,149,159", p:10-30, b:4-40, e:on, t:00, s:on, v:L;M;G;D, m:sendonly;recvonly;sendrecv;inactive;confrnce;replcate;netwtest;netwloop, dq-gi But when I use nemesis, I got an ICMP error: Port unreachable (Type 3, Code 3). To build this packet, WAN source address of the capture is replaced with my server LAN address, using the mgcp-callagent port (2727) and the packet is sent to the LAN address of the box at mgcp-gateway port (2427). The command I use is nemesis udp -S 192.168.2.1 -D 192.168.2.2 -x 2727 -y 2427 -P packet_to_send. I also tried an UDP scan to the box on callagent and gateway port: PORT STATE SERVICE 2727/udp open|filtered unknown 2427/udp closed unknown I found those results a little bit strange because it should be the 2427 port opened, as it was in capture. Internet Protocol, Src: <ISP MGCP Server>, Dst: <My WAN Address> User Datagram Protocol, Src Port: mgcp-callagent (2727), Dst Port: mgcp-gateway (2427) Does someone has any idea about how having my box responding to my requests ? • Redirect with htaccess for images onto another server without redirect looping

  Hey guys, I currently have a host where my main site is hosted on. I have set up nginx on another server to mirror/cache files being requested if it doesn't have it already, in particular images and flv videos. For example: www.domain.com is my main site. www.domain.com/video/video.flv www.domain.com/images/1.png I would like to ask apache to redirect it to imgserv.domain.com (imgserv.domain.com points to another server IP) imgserv.domain.com/video/video.flv imgserv.domain.com/images/1.png Basically redirect everything with certain filetypes and preserving the structure of the URL, like flv etc. I tried something but I am getting a redirect looping error. Could someone help me out? Thank you!

• How to stream partial content with ASP.NET MVC FileStreamResult

  We're using a FileStreamResult to provide video data to a Silverlight MediaElement based video player: public ActionResult Preview(Guid id) { return new FileStreamResult( Services.AssetStore.GetStream(id, ContentType.Preview), "application/octet-stream"); } Unfortunately, the Silverlight video player downloads the entire video file before it starts playing. This behavior is expected as our Preview Action does not support downloading partial content. (side note: if the file is hosted in an IIS virtual directory we can start playback at any location in the video while it is still downloading. however for security and auditing reasons we can't provide a direct download link. so this is not an option.) How can we improve the Controller Action to support partial HTTP content? I assume we first have to inform the client that we support it (adding an "Accept-Ranges:bytes" header to a HEAD request), then we have to evaluate the HTTP "Range" header and stream the requested file range with a response code of 206. Will that work with ASP.NET MVC hosted on IIS6? Is there already some code available? • JMF Registry could not add item (Vista)

  Hello, I'm using JMF to capture video stream (webcam) on my Java project. The camera I'm using is recognized by JMF (JFMStudio) and I manage to get the video stream. However, on JMF Registry Editor - there's a list of available capture devices, when I click "Add" on one of the items (including the one I need) I get a "Could not add item" error. Therefore this camera is not set in the registry of it (god know where) and later on it is not recognized by my project: RGBFormat fmt = new RGBFormat(); // could be YUV - doesn't matter Vector v = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(fmt); v is empty (while I know the video source is recognized by Java , since I manage to get video on JMF Studio). Now, this happens only on Vista (where else) and not on XP. I have a suspiction that somehow Vista security blocks Java from writing the registry file, but of course, I might be wrong. One more comments: this is vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture(Win32):0 device. Any idea ?

  Hi guys, I was wondering if there's a way to "embed" a Vimeo video in an iPhone app. For YouTube videos I'm using a webview containing the correct embed code for the YouTube video and the iPhone's native YouTube support will then transform the flash player into a YouTube button. • How to bind form collection back to custom model object that uses 2 custom objects in asp.net mvc?

  What I'm trying to do is rather basic, but I might have my facts mixed up. I have a details page that has a custom class as it's Model. The custom class uses 2 custom objects with yet another custom object a property of one of the 2. The details page outputs a fair amount of information, but allows the user to post a comment. When the user clicks the post button, the page gets posted to a Details action that looks something like this: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Details(VideoDetailModel vidAndComment) { ....} The only fields on the form that is posted are CommentText and VideoId. Here is what the VideoDetailModel looks like. public class VideoDetailModel { public VideoDetailModel() { Video = new VideoDTO(); Comment = new CommentDTO(); } public VideoDetailModel(VideoDTO vid) { Video = vid; Comment = new CommentDTO(); } public VideoDTO Video { get; set; } public CommentDTO Comment { get; set; } } VideoDTO has a few properties, but the ones I need are VideoId. CommentDTO's pertinent properties include CommentText (which is posting correctly) and a UserDTO object that contains a userId property. Everything other than the CommentText value is not being posted. I also have the following line on the ascx page, but the model value never gets posted to the controller. Html.Hidden("Model.Video.VideoId", Model.Video.VideoId); I'm really not sure what I'm missing here. I suppose if I added more form fields for the properties I need, they would get posted, but I only need 1 form entry field for the CommentText. If I could get the same Model objects value that were sent to the page to post with the page, that would help. I'll be happy to make any clarifications needed here. I'm just at loss as to what's going on.

  I have a flash player on a page which plays videos. I also have modal popups which need to be able to display over the top of the flash player when they are opened, etc... I can't change either of these requirements since they are part of the spec I have been given. Flash seems to ignore z-indexes I set on it with css, and the modal popups will therefore only appear above the video player if I set the video player's wmode to opaque or transparent. However, if I do this then the full screen functionality stops working correctly: when I un-fullscreen the video it stays zoomed in. In short If you open a popup on an item page or another page containing flash the popup should be displayed above this. Flash ignores z-index values. You can stop flash ignoring z-index values by setting wmode to opaque or transparent rather than the default: window. This stops full screen from working correctly. Has anybody else faced this issue before? What can I do to fix it? I was thinking of recreating the video player with wmode=opaque whenever I opened a modal popup and then switching it back to wmode=window when the modal popup is closed, since this would mean that the popup should display above it (as wmode=opaque) and the fullscreen should work correct (as wmode=window). However, this is not ideal at all: as well as being a hack it would also mean that the video would stop playing if somebody clicked a button which opened a popup. Cheers!

• How do I detect whether the sample supplied by VideoSink.OnSample() is right-side up?

  We're currently using the Silverlight VideoSink to capture video from users' local webcams, kinda like so: protected override void OnSample(long sampleTime, long frameDuration, byte[] sampleData) { if (FrameShouldBeSubmitted()) { byte[] resampledData = ResizeFrame(sampleData); mediaController.SetVideoFrame(resampledData); } } Now, on most of the machines that we've tested, the video sample provided in the byte[] sampleData parameter is upside-down, i.e., if you try to take the RGBA data and turn it into, say, a WriteableBitmap, the bitmap will be upside-down. That's odd, but fairly easy to correct, of course -- you just have to reverse the array as you encode it. The problem is that at least on some machines (e.g., the single Macintosh in our test environment), the video sample provided is no longer upside-down, but right-side up, and hence, flipping the image actually results in an image that's received upside-down on the far side. I reported this to MS as a bug, but their (terse) response was that it was "As Designed". Further attempts at clarification have so far been ignored. Now, I'll grant that it's kinda entertaining to imagine the discussions behind this design decision: "OK, just to make it interesting, let's play the video rightside up on a Mac, but let's turn it upside down for Windows!" "Great idea!" "Yeah, that'll keep those developers guessing!" But beyond that, I can't find this, umm, "feature" documented anywhere, nor can I find any documentation on how one is supposed to be able to tell that a given video sample is upside down or rightside up. Any thoughts on how to tell this?

• Ruby on Rails: strange voting increment behavior

  So I have an up and a downvote button that inserts a vote with a value of 1 or -1 into the database. This works correctly. Then, I display the total vote count for that element by summing up its votes' values. However, this isn't working correctly, because the vote sum display is acting really strange: The first vote on a video doesn't seem to increment it at all. Then the second vote does. If I go from an upvote to a downvote, it increments up once, and then the next downvote is down. This is difficult to explain, but maybe you can figure out what is wrong with my code. I have this function in my Video model (the element that is voted on, it has_many video_votes): def vote_sum read_attribute(:vote_sum) || video_votes.sum(:value) end I also have this in my VideoVote model: after_create :update_vote_sum private def update_vote_sum video.update_attributes(:vote_sum => video.vote_sum + value) end What am I doing wrong?

• enable profiler / Traceon after SQL server restart automatically

  hi, My client is facing some deadlocks while using our application. I want to track all the deadlocks for my research and to solve the deadlocks. i am currently run the SQL profiler for the event deadlock graph to capture the deadlock scenario. the actual problem is that the SQL server gets restarted every day at 2 am, and the profiler stops capturing the events after the restart. by the time i come to office at start the profiler at say 10 am, there could be deadlocks which i could have missed between 2 am and 10 am. so i am looking for a way so i can capture the deadlocks without me starting manually. i thought i could use TRACEON(1204,-1) so that the deadlock events get captured in the SQL Server error logs. But i found that the TRACE capturing too gets disabled after the restart. Is there a way i can capture the deadlocks either by SQL profiler or by using TRACEON without me manually starting the capturing? Nikhil

• vlc python bindings - how to receive keyboard input?

  I'm trying to use VLC's python bindings to create my own little video player. The demo implementation is quite simple and nice, but it requires all the keyboard commands to be typed into the console from which the script was run. Is there any way I can handle keyboard input also when the video player itself has focus? Specifically, I care about controlling the video while in fullscreen mode. Perhaps there's a way to keep the keyboard focus in the console (or maybe another window) while showing the video? I'm using Windows XP, if that has any relevance.

• App submitted to Amazon AppStore is both "Status: Incomplete" and "Cannot edit application while in review"

  Yesterday I submitted my application to the Amazon AppStore. I did not upload a video, because I haven't made one and it seemed optional, because I was able to submit the app without one. Today I checked the app's status, it says "Status: Incomplete (Missing Multimedia)" with a link to the multimedia section whose video field says "Video < none uploaded ". So I made a video, but I can not add it because it says "Cannot edit application while in review." I used the "Feeback" link to send a message to Amazon, I might even get a reply, but do anyone already know a solution to this problem?
