  I have (maybe silly) question regarding the apache2 webserver and security - I am trying to archieve this: Users connecting from 192.168.1.24 not to be prompted for password and allowed Others asked for username and password if correct then connect. I am trying to do this for the whole directory /var/www No matter whether I put the code into .htaccess file or in httpd.conf it doesn't work for me. Order deny,allow Deny from all AuthName "PassRequest" AuthType Basic AuthUserFile /var/.htpasswd Require valid-user Allow from 192.168.1.24 Satisfy Any If I try to connect to the page I am allowed from both the allowed IP or any other, If I remove the satisfy any line then I am prompted for password, if I remove the password too and try to connect from different IP I am NOT REFUSED ... is there some module that needs to be activated or why is the IP directive skipped ? It needs to be put in every folder or /var/www/.htaccess is enough ? can I just put it in httpd.conf instead or not ?? I spend last 4 hours trying to google up why it is acting like that, Any help will be highly appreciated :-))

  I have Hyper-V running on a windows 2008. I got a new ip stack from the data center to be set on my virtual machines. But I have difficulties to set these IPs on my VMs because they are on different network. my current server ip is xxx.xxx.18.6 with MASK : 255.255.255.224 and the GW is xxx.xxx.18.1 my new ip stack is xxx.xxx.168.176/29 I can use RRAS to achieve this. Do I need to create another NIC? How do I make these VMs reachable from outside?

• Wrong source IP when accessing internet directly from TMG server

  Hi everyone, after implementing a ForeFront TMG server I'm facing only one problem: After I added a second IP to the external adapter I had to manually set "NAT Address Selection" inside the network rule "Internet Access" to the first IP since all others would get blocked by the CISCO firewall. This configuration works as long as traffic comes from the internal network (e.g. browser on clients). Traffic from the TMG directed to the internet always carries the second IP as it's source address and gets blocked. All our other TMGs/ISAs are running fine and I never came across this problem- Does anybody have a clue, coz I don't?! Kevin

  I looking for ip changer what is faster than PROXY (i tried Elite Proxy Switcher + Firefox add-on, but it's too slow. I set automatic switching to 4 sec and yes he change the ip every 4 sec however it's not enough because it loads pages very slowly.) Secondly I tried the TOR Project but this is not good..because the TOR would be nice and working good however he needs more than 10 seconds, a new identity and it's not to good for me because i want to change my ip lass than 10 sec. So I find the solution. This is IPfucker alias ipFlood (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox.../ipflood/) But it does not work on all sites unfortunately...because this is just simulation "Simulate the use of a series of proxy changing at each new connection.".   I purchased a new Mac mini server, since my old iMac, which was a server pretty much died. My problem is this. How do I change my internal IP address for my mac mini server to a static address, like 192.168.0.2? Before you guys harp on me, my old server was running Ubuntu Hardy and I only had to map the IP address in the router, which would automatically assign the reserved address through DHCP. Now, I know things are different between the two, but my problem is that the mac is not accepting the assigned IP address or the router just is not assigning. However, every time I have manually changed it on the Mac to an address of my choice, it takes the computer off the Internet. My router is a NetGear WTG624 v2, I believe. I need this to work, so I can utilize Dynamic DNS.

These are two separate networks, the LAN is without Internet, I just use it to connect the tablet to the laptop and smart phone in my home network. The WI-FI is owned by the landlady and connects to the Internet. I know it should be possible to be connected both to the Internet through WI-FI and to my other computers and gadgets through the LAN because sometimes it works, but sometimes when I connect the ethernet cable the WI-FI disconnects and I wonder why? • Route gaming data over wireless and everything else through LAN?

  I have two internet connections available to me. One is via LAN.. not a great ping, but fast downloads. The other is via USB wireless adapter.. good ping, but slow downloads. I want to connect to both of them simultaneously. I want to be able to specify which data or application will use the wireless connection and route everything else through the lan connection. Is this possible, and how would I do it? Windows 7 x64 is my operating system. • Web application access different between Domain Name and IP

  in our office, we have a web application running. When we access the application by the domain name, http://server.domain.com/application/name it will display the current version of application. However, when we go by the IP address, http://192.168.1.111/application/name it will display the old version of that application. One thing is that we can access that application either by http://server.domain.com/ (it will be redirected to the long URL automatically) or http://server.domain.com/application/name when we are using domain name. But only accessible via the exact URL when we use IP address. Why is it showing the old version and how can it be corrected? It is running JRun4, Apache on Red hat. I've checked in httpd.conf a bit but could not find any. Please advice what should be done to display the same (updated version) when we access using domain name or IP address. Thank you.

  This is related to this question I just asked... I have two IP address on my iMac I want to "bridge". I'm not sure what the proper terminology is... here's the situation. My iMac has a firewire connection to my laptop and an ethernet connection to the rest of my office. My laptop has an ip of 192.168.100.2 (on the firewire interface). My iMac has an IP of 192.168.100.1 on the firewire interface, and two IPs, 10.1.0.6 and 10.1.0.7, on it's ethernet interface. If I wanted to forward all traffic coming in from 192.168.100.2 on my OS X machine to go out on IP 10.1.0.7, and vice-versa, can this be done? I assume I would use the ipfw command. Essentially I want to "bridge" the firewire network to the ethernet network so my laptop can see all the machines on the 10.1 network, and all those machines can see my laptop at 10.1.0.7. Is this possible?

If your laptop is stolen, and the thief unwittingly connects it to the Internet, and you have Skype on the laptop could you get the public IP address of the laptop and then go to the police and get it tracked? But ever since I placed websites on the VPS, I can no longer access that HTML folder, it goes to the first domain I have listed on the httpd.conf file. • How to eliminate the downtime when a dynamic IP address changes?

  We currently have a number of client computers linked up to a database server (MS SQL 2008) for replication. The database server recognises the computers based on their Windows hostname. We are using dynamic IP addresses at this time because we tend to change the computers’ hardware quite frequently, and so the MAC address may be different. Unless static IP has a good way for us to manage frequent changing of MAC addresses, we are keeping it to dynamic IP. The problem with dynamic IP addresses, however, is that when a client fetches an new IP from the DHCP, ie, there is a change in the IP address, there is going to have a downtime for the hostname to reflect the new IP address, the client’s DNS cache of the hostname to reload, and also the server’s DNS cache to reload to see the new IP from the hostname. All of these have different timings and the delay can be really bad at times. Restarting the computer doesn't work all the time too. The clients are on Windows 7. How can I eliminate the amount of downtime required when there is a change in IP in the case of dynamic IP addresses?

  Hello, First of all I must say that I'm ver inexperienced server and network user. But I rented a unmanaged dedicated server. Well I didn't know what unmanaged really means, then I learned it when I needed support. Well I must do everything by myself. I have a problem. I had already 4 IPs on my server when I rented it. But then I needed more Ips and my server assigned me 32 Ips in which I can only use 27 of them. 85.25.230.0 - 85.25.230.31 this is my Ip range and they say the following Ips must not be configured on the server: 85.25.230.0 - network address 85.25.230.1 - gateway address 85.25.230.2 - router redundancy 85.25.230.3 - router redundancy 85.25.230.31 - broadcast address But the problem is ok Ips are assigned to me but they are not setup on my server. How will I setup Ips to work on my server? I did this after my reseach on google: I used this command on command prompt: route add 85.25.230.0 mask 255.255.255.224 85.25.230.1 metric 1 if then it said OK!. and I thought they should be working. (btw, mask is given to me by my ISP and I don't know metric 1 and if means I just saw it on the net and write it here) I setup my domains via using Plesk Kontrol Panel. So i added one domain and setup one of my new Ips 85.25.230.5 to it. But no it is not working. When I visit the domain via browser, there is a Plesk page comes and says this domain is not configured on the server. Then I changed the domains Ip to one of my old Ips which are given to me with the server and which I have been using for my other domains for a long time. Ok in a second, domain started working. I set it back to my new Ip and domain did not work. As I said, I'm not an expert and do not now the logic. But I'm eager to learn. Can you tell me what might couse the problem and did I do wrong while setting up IP RANGE to my server, if so how can I set them up? Thank you, Efe

• Linux server very slow after IP change and synflood attack

  our server experienced a synflood attack and we used the csf firewall synflood settings to block it. Our server administrators also changed the IP of the server to a new one and blackholed the old IP. The attack went over and I changed the synflood settings back. However the server is still very slow, with a very low CPU usage and very low traffic on the website. Does anybody have an idea what might be causing this?
