  Hello guys, I have programmed c# application i will post screenshot. In this main form is 3 buttons which opens different forms. Now i decided to modify this application I want to Make one main form with strip menu which will open this forms. I used this code but i don't like or i'm doing something wrong. I don't like because there is child controls(minimize, maximize, close) in parent (please see second picture ): Please advice me something. Is MDI good for such job? Thanks! • Dendrogram generated by scipy-cluster does not show

  I am using scipy-cluster to generate a hierarchical clustering on some data. As a final step of the application, I call the dendrogram function to plot the clustering. I am running on Mac OS X Snow Leopard using the built-in Python 2.6.1 and this matplotlib package. The program runs fine, but at the end the Rocket Ship icon (as I understand, this is the launcher for GUI applications in python) shows up and vanishes immediately without doing anything. Nothing is shown. If I add a 'raw_input' after the call, it just bounces up and down in the dock forever. If I run a simple sample application for matplotlib from the terminal it runs fine. Does anyone have any experiences on this?

• Recommendations on a WPF Docking Library

  We are implementing an application that needs dockable windows, similar to Visual Studio 2005/2008, but with multiple "docking sites", unlike VS's single one. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good library for this - either OSS or commercial? I am aware that Infragistics has one, as well as Divelement's SandDock and WPF-Dock from DevComponents, as well as ActiPro's Docking & MDI product. There is also one on CodeProject. Has anyone used any of these libraries? Was the experience good or bad? If you have experience with one of them, does it support multiple "docking sites"?

• Xcode: How-to bind a key that triggers application to appear (background daemon)

  Hi, I am struggling to create a certain kind of application my Mac, using Xcode and Interface Builder (RubyCocoa). As I am a nuby (but understand some Ruby), I would like to know how I could let my interface appear only if a key is pushed (a toggle), while the program is running in the background. Similar behavior like when I'd press the F4-key to show Dashboard. Really neat would be if the program wouldn't be showing as running in the Dock, but as a funky icon in the top bar, like well "Growl". Thank you so much for your help, comments and feedback!

The instructions I am following suggest that if I click the item, the properties window will appear (it does), and then I can click ColumnDefinitions (which is a Collection) to bring up the Collection Editor and add some columns. However, the ColumnDefinitions property looks like this: The ColumnDefinitions ellipsis you'd normally press is gone, or invisible, or something. Any idea why?

  Is there an easy way in WPF to specify the orientation of an icon (or Button, or any WPF object) so that it always effectively remains unrotated regardless of the rotations of the parent transforms? For example, I'd like to have an icon like this: + + + + + +++++ + + + + + + + However, if I dock it to the left side, it'd by default look like this: +++++ + + + +++++ +++ + and if I docked it to the right, it'd be like this: + +++ +++++ + + + +++++ Is there a way to make it always be: + + + + + +++++ + + + + + + + ? I know I could manually track where it's docked and rotate it appropriately, but I was wondering if there's a clever way to effectively give the icon "gravity" to always point down. Thanks!

• How to change the OSX menubar in wxPython without any opened window?

  I am writing a wxPython application that remains open after closing all of its windows - so you can still drag & drop new files onto the OSX dock icon (I do this with myApp.SetExitOnFrameDelete(False)). Unfortunately if I close all the windows, the OSX menubar will only contain a "Help" menu. I would like to add at least a File/Open menu item, or just keep the menubar of the main window. Is this somehow possible in wxPython? In fact, I would be happy with a non-wxPython hack as well (for example, setting the menu in pyobjc). wxPython development in OSX is such a hack anyway ;)

  I have a desktop application (forms) with a tab control, I assign a tab and a new custom webrowser control. I open up about 10 of these tabs. Each one visits about 100 - 500 different pages. The trouble is that if 1 webbrowser control has a problem it shuts down the entire program. I want to be able to close the offending webbrowser control and open a new one in it's place. Is there any event that I need to subscribe to catch a crashing or unresponsive webbrowser control ?   I have a database with PermitHolders (PermitNum = PK) and DetailedFacilities of each Permit Holder. In the tblPermitDetails table there are 2 columns PermitNum (foreign Key) FacilityID (integer Foreign Key Lookup to Facility table). A permitee can have 1 - 29 items on their permit, e.i. Permit 50 can have a Boat Dock (FacID 4), a Paved walkway (FacID 17) a Retaining Wall (FacID 20) etc. I need an SQL filter/display whatever, ALL PERMIT #s that have ONLY FacIDs 19, 20, or 28, NOT ones that have those plus "x" others,....just that subset. I've worked on this for 4 days, would someone PLEASE help me? I HAVE posted to other BB but have not received any helpful suggestions.

  I have a List component from which I'd like to be able to remove items using drag & drop, but without having a specific target. If you use the mac, the behaviour I'm looking for is something like what the Dock uses; when you drag something out of the bounds of the control it should get an icon that indicates that it'll be deleted (OSX uses a cloud or something?) and then if you release it it will be removed from the list. In mainForm I am using this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoginScreen login = new MainMenu(); login.Parent = this; login.Dock = DockStyle.Fill; login.Show(); } But I guess it is not modal and thus does not stop the original Form application. Sure I would need the main Form to do not continue until the login form is closed (and login sucessfull). Would using an event correct? Let login object to raise an event that login was successfull and let the MainForm handle it - run the app?

• Banshee encountered a Fatal Error (sqlite error 11: database disk image is malformed)

  I am running ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, and recently I am helping in testing out indicator-weather using the unstable buids. However there was a bug which caused my system to freeze suddenly (due to indicator-weather not ubuntu) and the only way to recover is to do a hard reset of the system. This happened a couple of times. And when i tried to open banshee after a couple of such resets I get the following fatal error which forces me to quit banshee. • Installing Gtk2 on portable strawberry

  I downloaded "strawberry-perl-5.12.2.0-portable" and "gtk+-bundle_2.22.1-20101227_win32". I extracted strawberry-perl in some directory and there I put gtk folder with gtk stuff. In portableshell.bat I changed Path env and added: "%drivep%\gtk\bin;%drivep%\gtk\lib;". Don't ask me why I added lib directory, I saw that some guy added it in some website. • Matplotlib PDF export uses wrong font

  I want to generate high-quality diagrams for a presentation. I’m using Python’s matplotlib to generate the graphics. Unfortunately, the PDF export seems to ignore my font settings. I tried setting the font both by passing a FontProperties object to the text drawing functions and by setting the option globally. For the record, here is a MWE to reproduce the problem: import scipy import matplotlib matplotlib.use('cairo') import matplotlib.pylab as pylab import matplotlib.font_manager as fm data = scipy.arange(5) for font in ['Helvetica', 'Gill Sans']: fig = pylab.figure() ax = fig.add_subplot(111) ax.bar(data, data) ax.set_xticks(data) ax.set_xticklabels(data, fontproperties = fm.FontProperties(family = font)) pylab.savefig('foo-%s.pdf' % font) In both cases, the produced output is identical and uses Helvetica (and yes, I do have both fonts installed). Just to be sure, the following doesn’t help either: matplotlib.rc('font', family = 'Gill Sans') Finally, if I replace the backend, instead using the native viewer: matplotlib.use('MacOSX') I do get the correct font displayed – but only in the viewer GUI. The PDF output is once again wrong. To be sure – I can set other fonts – but only other classes of font families: I can set serif fonts or fantasy or monospace. But all sans-serif fonts seem to default to Helvetica.

• How to display many SVGs in Java with high performance

  What I want My goal is to be able to display a large number of SVG images on a single drawing area in Java, each with its own translation/rotation/scale values. I'm looking for the simplest solution allowing this, optionally even using OpenGL to speed things up. What I've Tried My initial naive approach was to use SVGSalamander to draw directly on a JPanel, but the performance was pathetic. I poked around around and learned that I should do something like manually convert each SVG into a BufferedImage created with createCompatibleImage, then do the transformations I want, then draw it using double buffering. I ran into some troubles here, and before I continued I tried looking for frameworks to simplify things. What I've Looked At I've been a bit overwhelmed by the available options, which is why I'm turning to SO for help. I've looked at: Cairo (with Glitz maybe?) Libart - not sure if this actually supports SVGs FengGUI Slick - looks promising but a bit of an overkill But couldn't decide what is best for me to start working with, and I hope someone here as experience with any of these doing similar things.

For example because you want to display how a subset of entities relate to one another in a different way than the list of entities. LLBLGen Pro offers this in the form of Model Views. The documentation can then be used to communicate specifics of the elements on the model view to the developers who have to write the actual code. Below I've included an example. It's a model view on a subset of the entities of AdventureWorks. It displays several entities, their relationships (both relational and inheritance relationships) and also some specifics gathered from the interview with the stakeholder. As the information is inside the actual project the developer will work with, the information doesn't have to be converted back/from e.g .word documents or other intermediate formats, it's the same project. This makes sure there are less errors / misunderstandings. (of course you can hide the docked documentation pane or dock it to another corner). The Model View can contain entities which are placed in different groups. This makes it ideal to group entities together for close examination even though they're stored in different groups. The Model View is a first-class citizen of the code-generator. This means you can write templates which consume Model Views and generate code accordingly. E.g. you can write a template which generates a service per Model View and exposes the entities in the Model View as a single entity graph, fetched through a method. (This template isn't included in the LLBLGen Pro package, but it's easy to write it up yourself with the built-in template editor). Viewing an entity model in different ways is key to fully understand the entity model and Model Views help with that.
