• how to use a batch file to delete a line of text in a bunch of text files? [on hold]

  I have a bunch of txt files in my D drive which are placed randomly in different locations.Some files also contain symbols.I want a batch file so that i can delete their specific lines completely at the same time without doing it one by one for each file and please refer to a code which does not create a new text file at some other location with the changes being incorporated i.e I do not want the input.txt and output.txt thing.I just need the original files to be replaced with the changes as soon as i click the batch file. e.g D:\abc\1.txt D:\xyz\2.txt etc I want both of their 3rd lines erased completely with a single click and the new file must be saved with the same name in the same location i.e the new changed text files must replace the old text files with their respective lines removed.Maybe some sort of *.txt thing i.e i should be able to change all the files with the .txt extensions in a drive via a single batch file perhaps in another drive,not placing my batch file into each and every folder separately and then running them.Alternatively a vbs file is also welcomed.   Hi there, I am running a SSAS cube that stores facts of HTTP requests. The is a column "Time Taken" that stores the milliseconds a particular HTTP request took. Like... RequestID Time Taken -------------------------- 1 0 2 10 3 20 4 20 5 2000 I want to provide a report through Excel that shows the distribution of those timings by percentage of requests. A statement like "90% of all requests took less than 20millisecond". Analysis: 100% <2000 80% <20 60% <20 40% <10 20% <=0 I am pretty much lost what would be the right approach to design aggregations, calculations etc. to offer this analysis through Excel. Any ideas? • Multithreading/Parallel Processing in PHP

  I have a PHP script that will generate a report using PHPExcel from data queried from a MySQL DB. Currently, it is linear in processing in that it gets the data back from MySQL, reads in the Excel template, writes the data to the template, then outputs it. I have optimized the code to the point that the data is only iterated over once, and there is very little processing done on the PHP side. The query returns hundreds of lines in less than .001 seconds, so it is running fast enough. After some timing I have found my bottlenecks to be (surprise, surprise) reading the template and writing the output. I would like to do this: Spawn a thread/process to read the template Spawn a thread/process to fetch the data Return back to parent thread - Parent thread will wait until both are complete Proceed on as normal My main questions are is this possible, is it worth it? If yes to both, how would you tackle it? Also, it is PHP 5 on CentOS

• Best practices for fixed-width processing in .NET

  I'm working a .NET web service that will be processing a text file with a relatively long, multilevel record format. Each record in the file represents a different entity; the record contains multiple sub-types. (The same record format is currently being processed by a COBOL job, if that gives you a better picture of what we're looking at). I've created a class structure (a DATA DIVISION if you will) to hold the input data. My question is, what best practices have you found for processing large, complex fixed-width files in .NET? My general approach will be to read the entire line into a string and then parse the data from the string into the classes I've created. But I'm not sure whether I'll get better results working with the characters in the string as an array, or with the string itself. I guess that's the specific question, string vs. char[], but I would appreciate any other pointers anyone has. Thanks.

  Is there any way to have a subroutine send data back while still processing? For instance (this example used simply to illustrate) - a subroutine reads a file. While it is reading through the file, if some condition is met, then "return" that line and keep processing. I know there are those that will answer - why would you want to do that? and why don't you just ...?, but I really would like to know if this is possible. Thank you so much in advance.

• LINQ to SQL: On load processing of lazy loaded associations

  If I have an object that lazy loads an association with very large objects, is there a way I can do processing at the time the lazy load occurs? I thought I could use AssociateWith or LoadWith from DataLoadOptions, but there are very, very specific restrictions on what you can do in those. Basically I need to be notified when an EntitySet< decides it's time to load the associated object, so I can catch that event and do some processing on the loaded object. I don't want to simply walk through the EntitySet when I load the parent object, because that will force all the lazy loaded items to load (defeating the purpose of lazy loading entirely).

• Is there a substitute for blockproc in Matlab?

  I've been using blockproc for processing images blockwise. Unfortunately, blockproc is part of the Image Processing Toolbox, which I don't have on my personal computer. Is there a combination of functions in base Matlab that can substitute for blockproc? My initial guess was to use im2col to transform each block into columns, and then arrayfun to process each column. Then I realized that im2col is also a part of the Image Processing Toolbox, so that doesn't solve my problem.

• Problem processing large data using Applet-Servlet communication

  Hi everyone. I have an Applet that makes a request to a Servlet. On the servlet it's using the PrintWriter to write the response back to Applet: out.println("Field1|Field2|Field3|Field4|Field5......|Field10"); There are about 15000 records, so the out.println() gets executed about 15000 times. Problem is that when the Applet gets the response from Servlet it takes about 15 minutes to process the records. I placed System.out.println's and processing is paused at around 5000, then after 15 minutes it continues processing and then its done. Has anyone faced a similar problem? The servlet takes about 2 seconds to execute. So seems that the browser/Applet is too slow to process the records. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

  I have an SSAS cube containing customers and their purchased memberships (let's say magazines). I want to calculate the retention. I.e. how many customers remain a customer. To do this I specify a set (males, 30yrs, 1 january 2011). I want to see if this set - identified by a customer number - is still present in the following months. I named my set MySet2. What I try to do is: sum(measures.amount, [membership].[name].&[X], MySet2, [date].[date].currentmember) However, the result is incorrect. The number is far to low. I suspect it still tries to account for all the males of 30 years old, but after a year they're not 30 anymore. What am I missing? I looked at scope and filter, but I'm not sure how to apply it.

  Hi there I am not sure if the title has the correct terms, I have a developer and am very new to cubes. I have a cube which has data associated to materials that are broken down into chemical compounds. For example a rock material has 10% of this chemical and 10% of that chemical, etc. Samples are taken daily and sample is a dimension with date, etc. So, the measure needs to average by the sample dimension but needs to sum across the chemical compound dimension (To add up to 100% for example). Is this at all possible?

  So on a PHP page (page 1) I have some HTML, including : <form action="create_subject.php" method="post" > Which goes to a processing page (page 2) containing MySQL which will be executed if there aren't any errors. If there are (checked by validation on the processing page (page 2)) or aren't, certain variables are set, including this one for if it's successful : if (mysql_affected_rows() == 1){ $success = 1; redirect_to("new_subject.php"); } However, how would I include $success into the URL without putting it in as : redirect_to("new_subject.php?success=1"); I can't do this as I need to do if statements, and it's only PHP on "page 2" so I can't do an if statement inside redirect_to("new_subject.php"); I know I could do ... } else { redirect_to("new_subject.php?success=1"); } But this would seem mundane and non-semantic especially as I have several variables to proccess.

  I've been experimenting with Grails for the past two days and, so far, I'm really happy with it. Coming from Rails, the only thing I've really been missing here is the dev-mode debug information shown after the page has been served. • Continue Drupal processing after page send.

  I need to do some additional processing after a Drupal page has been sent. I know I could fire a background shell command, but I need the current Drupal execution context to be maintained. I've spent a lot of time looking, but I can't find any documentation in this regard. This is surprising because it must surely be a common requirement. The only real idea I have is to fire up Drupal (again) via a shell command (exec, etc) and supply it with a pseudo path which would invoke the continued processing. But this seems unnecessarily complex/wasteful. Any pointers greatly appreciated, tks.

• Reporting tool for OLAP, *not* OLTP!

  I'm looking for a control that I can put on top of an already existing OLAP star schema to allow the user to define their own "queries" and generate reports. Right now I have some predefined reports built on top of the cubes, but I'd like to allow the user to define their own criteria based on the cubes that I've created. I've found lots of products that will allow you to treat a transactional table like an OLAP cube, but nothing specifically for pre-existing cubes. EDIT: Let me be clear, I know there are countless reporting tools out there that claim to report on OLAP cubes. The problem is they all assume they are looking at transactional data and try to create their own cubes. I have tables that contain tens, if not hundreds of millions of records. Most tools crash when handling this much data, the others just run incredible slowly. I don't want a tool that is targeting the business people. I want a tool that understands what a star and snowflake schema is. I want to be able to tell it what the fact tables are and what the dimension tables are, and then creates a UI on top of them. This is an easier problem to solve for the tool vendor because I am spoon feeding them the cubes. I want to rely on the fact that cubes are a standardized pattern and I want a tool that takes advantage of this fact. I want a tool that targets developers and starts with the assumption that I actually know how to manage my data, it just needs to build pretty reports for me and not crumble under the weight of my data.

But that didn't fix the Software Center. Help would be greatly appreciated. ADDED UPDATE I've tried to install aptitude using dpkg but can't.   I've setup AWStats on my VPS to get some more insight into the traffic coming to my site. As instructed I ran a manual build/update which ran fine: sudo -u www-data ./awstats.pl -config=xxxx.com Create/Update database for config "/etc/awstats/awstats.xxxx.com.conf" by AWStats version 6.9 (build 1.925) From data in log file "/usr/share/doc/awstats/examples/logresolvemerge.pl /var/www/xxxx.com/logs/*-access.log |"... Phase 1 : First bypass old records, searching new record... Searching new records from beginning of log file... Phase 2 : Now process new records (Flush history on disk after 20000 hosts)... Warning: awstats has detected that some hosts names were already resolved in your logfile /usr/share/doc/awstats/examples/logresolvemerge.pl /var/www/xxxx.com/logs/*-access.log |. If DNS lookup was already made by the logger (web server), you should change your setup DNSLookup=1 into DNSLookup=0 to increase awstats speed.   We have Helicon ISAPI Rewrite 3 installed on our Windows 2003 Web server. The RewriteRules work fine in the global file located in the httpd.conf file. The server serves several Web sites and we were hoping to create RewriteRules to apply to specific Web sites. In the IIS Properties for each Web site there exists a separate tab for ISAPI_Rewrite pointing to the .htaccess file for that Web site. No rules applied to the .htaccess files work. Any ideas why the .htaaccess files have no effect.

• OS X Snow Leopard stops processing clicks from Wacom Intuous2

  I'm using a Wacom Intuos2 graphics tablet in OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2, which works great, 80% of the time. Every 20 minutes or so, OS X to just start ignoring input from the pen. More specifically, only the pen tip is ignored - the side buttons on the pen still work. Putting the Mac to sleep and waking it back up restores functionality to the pen tip. This is using both of the latest Wacom drivers claiming compatibility with Snow Leopard: versions 6.1.2-5 (Nov 25, 2009) and 6.1.3-3 (Jan 21, 2010). I have no experience with this tablet with other version of OS X / drivers. The tablet works 100% in Windows, which leads to blame either OS X or the OS X drivers.

• Linux: Simulate Serial Connection from Arduino

  I'm trying to simulate the serial connection from an Arduino into a Processing applet since I don't have an Arduino at the moment. Simply, I'm trying to just send bytes from Bash to a serial connection (on /dev/ttyS0) which the Processing applet will pick up like it would from an Arduino. I tried the answer to this question: How can I send data to the serial port from a Linux shell?, but it's simply not working and I don't know how to go about debugging something like this since I've never played with serial connections before. Any advice? Thanks much.
