  I wish to have my flavors.me use my own domain, yet still wish to retain access to own_domain.com/blog The way flavors.me works now is that I must have the DNS A record point at their IP. Which obviously will prevent me from still having access to own_domain.com/blog Am posting this to gather some ideas. What ought to be the best way of solving this? I am trying to stave off the need for a subdomain for the blog if I can help it. Is there some magic with htaccess and domain masking that can occur without SEO penalties? Thank you.

  I am thinking of running a self-site builder. But was wondering how would I allow customers to use their own domains that they already own. Is that even possible? Let's say my site is www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com and each customer has urls like this www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/frances www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/eden www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/john And a customer has a domain called widgets.com Is it actually possible domain widgets.com to go to my site somehow and have HASHES on the URL still work (my site makes use of hashes for AJAX queries). • Samba networking with a domain-joined computer

  I have two computers connected to the same linksys router - one running Ubuntu 8.04 and one running Windows 7. The Windows computer is part of a work domain (when connected via VPN). I'm trying to also create a home network so I can access the linux server from Windows. From what I understand, I have to first create a Windows workgroup and then configure Samba on linux to join the Windows network. So in Windows, I went to Control Panel - Network and Internet - HomeGroup and got the following message: There is currently no homegroup on your network. Because this computer also belongs to a domain, you can't create your own homegroup, but can join one created by someone on your network. Can I use Samba to create a homegroup? Is there any other way to create a Windows workgroup? Or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

  I recently started a Systems Admin job where teamviewer is used pretty frequently here. Another admin recently left, and the concern is they still have access to all our systems due to how teamviewer works. I want to migrate the entire environment to domain authentication. The documentation shows that setting up windows auth (domain) is easy, but I want to be sure that it is the only way to be authenticated with a teamviewer session here. I cannot yet find anything which explicitly says this. We have licensing for teamviewer 5 and 6, I think. Right now we have 7 in the environment, but I think most are in a trial version, so I am likely to revert to 5 or 6.

• Win 7 laptop taking a long time to log on when off the domain

  I've clicked through on a few forums but unable to find a suggestion for this issue. I have a user with a HP laptop which will boot perfectly fine whilst connected to the network but at home it will take 4 minutes to log on. Some suggestions I have had is that its looking for the DNS server of the domain. Another was that it was suggested it was a roaming profile (it isn't). So hoping someone has encountered Windows 7 acting like this and has some suggestions. The other users on this domain don't have the issue and its a mix of XP and Win 7 client PCs.

• Can't connect to domain computers until reboot

  I have a domain with about 300 Windows 7 and XP machines, with the domain controllers running Server 2003. Sometimes, I lose the ability to communicate/authenticate with some of the machines until I reboot my computer. This also happens from other computers and regardless of user account and operating system. In other words, say I'm on ComputerA, and I can't connect to ComputerX. I can go to ComputerB and connect to ComputerX, but ComputerB may not be able to connect to ComputerY. If you reboot ComputerA, then it will be able to connect to ComputerX again. Here are some messages from various utilities: sc: [SC] OpenSCManager FAILED 1722: The RPC server is unavailable. mmc (compmgmt.msc): Computer (computer name) cannot be managed. The network path was not found. explorer (\\computer): Windows cannot access \\(computer name). ping: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss) / Average = 1ms

• Deploying an application on a windows domain

  I'm looking for different ways to deploy, execute and uninstall an application on all machines of a Windows domain. I've did some research on Group Policy Object (GPO) but I'm still looking for other ideas. As I said, I need to deploy the application, run it without the user having to click anything and letting him to control over the machine. Once it's finished running I need to uninstall it and never run it again. Can such things be done with a GPO? Are there any other possibilites on a Windows domain? Thank you

• Domain Computers Not Listed In Network

  Our network computers are all connected to a domain, and I can see them if I search the active directory (I can click 'search active directory' and then select 'computers' and then Find Now, and all of the computers will appear). However, the computers are not listed in the network browser on any of our computers (Win XP, Win7, Linux, etc) which are connected to the domain. DC is running Windows Server 2008 (Windows Server Standard) with a configured DNS and DHCP server. All of the IPs on our local network are static IPs, although I can't see how that would make a difference. I can still connect to computers on the network via \\computer_name, but I cannot browse them in 'network' or in 'my network places'. The computer browser service is not started on the DC, but I tried starting that and it had no effect. DC currently has the firewall configured as 'off' to try to debug this problem.   Hi Guys. I have installed Windows 2003 server R2 on a VM. This VM is running on Windows XP PRO. When i try to make this XP Pro PC join the domain on the VM it tries to locate the server and gives me the following error message " The specified network name is no longer available", despite the fact that i can still see this domain on my network. can anyone help with this please. This is the very first time i am trying connecting a client to a VM server so hope am not doing anything wrong.. thanks

  I have a Mediatemple dv (Plesk) server with two domains, each has static IP. I had domain1 as main domain and domain2 as secondary. When A PHP script from domain2 sends email the headers show the IP address of domain1 as the origin. Received: from domain2.com (domain1.com [70.ipof domain1]). I want only domain2 to be mentioned so I did the following: Changed server name to domain2.com made domain2.com the primary domain (about 30 hours ago) made fixed IP address of domain2.com the default address for the server. Still when the script sends emails I see the same info as above in the header. What do I need to do to make the email origin domain2.com?

  Hello, I have two domain's set up on my server. Domain 1 is configured with google apps so that mail.domain1.com goes to google's mail. However, I would like domain1.com to redirect to domain2.com. Currently in my nginx.conf file I had server { listen 80; server_name domain2.com .domain1.com; rewrite ^/(.*) http://domain2.com permanent; root /home/demo/apps/cjl/public; passenger_enabled on; rails_spawn_method smart; } When I did this Firefox popped up a "Redirect not configured correctly" error and said that it thought that the redirect would create a never ending loop. I'm wondering how to set this up and any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

• Domain users sometimes cannot access our NAS

  I'm using a QNAP TS-410 Turbo NAS and I've got domain users connecting to it frequently everyday. However, there are times when their connection to the NAS will seem to just drop and, suddenly, they cannot access their network drives (which I had set up our Domain Controller to automatically map to folders on the NAS). Could you please tell me what may cause this? I don't think it is a network issue as everything else seems to work just fine.   I have one laptop used by one user that keeps getting the following error and is unable to log in. Trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain has failed Can anyone help tell me what is causing this and what I can do to stop it happening. I have tried reformatting which helps for a while, I have also tried reformatting with a new name which helped for a while.   Initially my domain , mycompany.com points to this IP: - 123.456.789.101 (sample only) Then i got another VPS and then decided to move the mycompany.com into this new IP/Host: - 987-654-123.123 (sample only) I changed the necessary stuff like DNS, etc. from my domain management panel. But when i ping it : ping mycompany.com , sometimes it gives the first IP, sometimes the second one. Also when i visit the url from the browser, sometimes it loads, sometimes it doesn't. • Domain user periodically can't login, but only temporarily?

  Ok, this is a strange one that I'm having trouble replicating letting alone solving. I have a user who uses two computers (both XP sp3) on the domain with a roaming profile. She has no problems on her personal computer but occasionally needs to use a shared computer. On this shared computer she is sometimes (~once a week) unable to login with the error message "Username or password incorrect. Check username password and domain and try again." I've checked when this happens and her username and password are indeed entered correctly. Now the strange part - if someone else logs in to the computer (which so far always works) and then logs out she is able to log in after that. This problem began after a recent and long overdue password change. I've tried to replicate this problem after a reboot, or after another user logs out to no avail. Any suggestions on troubleshooting or replicating this one? Anyone experienced something similar?

• Host forwarding fails, server is up, domain name tests ambiguous

  I have a domain name registered with http://www.registryrocket.com/ The "main" site, which is called rudolfcode.net, is registered under godaddy, and forwards to a heroku site (rudolfcode.herokuapp.com). I have found that the main site, rudolfcode.net works, but the hostgator forwarding has stopped working (firefox simply fails when you point to http://www.rudolflabs.com, which is the domain name registered by hostgator). How can I debug this issue ? Finally, I have tried to run some DNS tests, and here are the results : Im not sure what the failures mean .... But Im pretty sure that "Conecting to WWW Home Page" failed is a pretty bad sign ! Thanks.

  We have a domain controller (exchange box) hosted at our hosting provider. We need to set up a local domain controller so we do a VPN and local authentication tasks. I can make the PDC accept all connections from our Office IP. How do I get the office router to correctly allow two way communications between the PDC (cloud) and the local DC. Is it possible to use Google Apps or another Cloud Service as a replacement for a Windows Domain Controller (replacing my whole AD infrastructure)? Specifically, I want to remove our dependence on a local Windows Server; currently it acts as a Domain Controller with File and Print Services. I'd like to seamlessly replace this server with something based on hosted applications. I do not just want to move the server to a dedicated or collocated server. I have yet to figure out how to piece together printer/etc sharing. If anyone has any insight into this, it would be appreciated. The goal is to eventually move all my servers to the cloud then write up a case study on the whole affair.

• Domain account credentials fails to start scheduled tasks

  I have 2 Windows 2000 servers in a domain 'DC', which run numerous windows scheduled tasks under the 'DC\Task-User' account. These tasks are and have been running successfully in the past couple of years without any account/password modifications. Yesterday, the tasks went to 'Could not start' status. Myself having an admin account, was able to run these tasks with my credentials. Today, I ran the tasks again under the DC\Task-User account and they seem to be running fine without any issues. This has happened in the past too. I'm not into networking so don't know much about the underlying problem. Has this something to do with a Domain controller account authentication? Any pointers will be great!

• Domain controller policies having administrative issues with program installations

  I have an issue with our domain and policies where a user needs administrative rights to install a program and someone provides the credentials for the 'run as admin' or 'run as other user' it will always show an error: Cannot find specified file on the drive. So we cannot install programs for our employees. How I fix it is I add the user to administrators, force a policy update, have them reboot, run as administrator and install it that way. Then remove them after and update the policy. Another way was to right click the install file (.exe/.msi) and add the user and administrator as an owner with full control. Only works when we have the installation file. I have no idea how to fix this and I can't find a relevant thread or QA about this problem. I can only find users having issues on their home computers not on a domain. Any help and threads to read would be great!

• My Domain Is Getting Blocked As Gambling

  I have a site at http://slotted.co. Some of my would-be users complain that their company firewall blocking access. At least one user told me it was flagged as a gambling domain, which it is not. What can I do about this? Incidentally I own some other domains, such as signupster.com, which redirect to my site. I wonder if a quick workaround would be to make that my main domain and have slotted.co redirect? Obviously I prefer in the long terms that slotted.co is considered clean.

• Hooking domain to home server (WinServer2008) with specific port

  Alright, I'm asking two things here. First of all, if i purchase a domain let's say myhomeserver.com, am I able to make the default port go through a different port instead of the default port 80? (that is without having to do myhomeserver.com:5000 for example). Also this should be without blocking other ports (so no stealth forwarding to myhomeserver.com:5000 i think) Secondly, How could I go about hooking a domain to a windows 2008 server? I've seen it on linux but no clue how to do it on windows if it's even possible. I know I'm asking a lot here, just some tips are appereciated. Also, yes I know, using a home server is horrible for security and preformance and whatnot, I understand this already, thanks ^^
