  • Unattended Fedora kickstart that works as CD/DVD *and* USB

    Is it possible to create one ISO with one kickstart file that will work correctly when written to CD/DVD and as a USB? As far as I can tell I need two separate versions as modifications are needed in isolinux.cfg (ks=) and ks.cfg (because I access the install media in %post) It seems odd isolinux.cfg doesn't default to the root of the installation media and that kickstart doesn't have a global define for the source media device. Or is there an alternative to kickstart?

  • Help installing fedora13 from DvD?

    I have windows xp on my dell but I lost the drivers disk so I want to install linux Fedora 13 instead and wipe the windows xp. I burned the iso to a dvd and loaded up the live session user and used "Install to harddrive" but when I get to the partitioning window there is no harddrives to install to so I cant overwrite the windows drive (/C:).. Help?

Googled around and there is a way to disable devices completely: Cdrom: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cdrom\Start (from 1 to 4) Usb: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR (from 3 to 4) but I need to disable them only for particular users.

    I have 7 cd drives. Now i am writing the CDs using NTI MEdia Maker. The problem is all the drive have weird name in the writer like HL DVD RW S224 or something. IT is very hard to find which drive is which. Is there any way to define the Name liek Drive 1, Drive 2 so that in the writer the name come up like that so that if some cd fails to write i can find which drive is that

    I am looking to create a custom boot DVD to run my unattended installs of windows 2008. I would like to have a menu system that lets the tech select what version of the OS they would like to install and version (x86/x64). I know you can run the windows 2008 setup, and exit to command prompt, but I would like there to just be a menu that will kick off whichever script needed. What would be the best way to do this?     I am trying to use a Drive Maps GPO on Server 2012 - User Configuration - Preferences - Windows Settings - Drive Maps. Problem is I want to map a drive to D: but this is automatically assigned to the DVD drive. Question is can I prevent D: being used as the next drive letter when Windows 8 boots up? I seem to recall in early version of Windows, or maybe it was Novell, a first_drive environment variable for this purpose.

  • BIOS and Windows cannot detect CDROM device

    Hello! I have a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4521B dvdrom device and a big problem. Some days ago everything worked fine. A friend installed some software and then the drives in winxp has been marked as corrupt. I uninstalled the software, but still corrupt drives. The next step I have done was running the current software GCC-4521B101(E).exe. When I ran this software again, the drives was automatically updated, but still marked as corrupt (in the Device Manager), even if I did a reboot. And then the big mistake: once more I tried to run this software, but during the update process, the machine restarted and boom! The DVDROM device doesn't work anymore. The led doesn't blink and if I push the eject button, nothing happens. Also bios and winxp doesn't recognize the optical drive. Then I plugged an other optical drive and it worked, but my old drive seems to be dead. So, what happened and how to solve this problem? Please help. Regards!

    Hi All, I have just purchased windows 7 64bit. I entered the disk in the drive and it told me I couldn't upgrade as I am using XP so I have tried to boot from CD instead but it doesn't work. It seems to look at the disk for a few seconds and then ends up at a screen saying windows failed to start and then I hit enter and it loads windows XP again. Does anyone know what could cause this?     I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32 bit. I have installed HandBrake rev5474 (i686), which I believe is the latest, and the Ubuntu Restricted Extras. I am able to play DVDs via VLC but when it comes to ripping them, so that I can back them up to my Twonky media server, I have issues. I launch HandBrake and find that the only format available for me to select is MKV. When I used to run Handbrake on this machine while I was running Ubuntu 13.10 and lower I had no issues and **lots of formats (including MP4 which is what I'm really after) but since reformating and installing 14.04 I've had this issue. Any help would be much appreciated.

    I have been searching the internet forever now, but I am using wubi on a windows 8.1 laptop. I have properly burned the newest version of Ubuntu, I have never done this before, so please put the answer in simple terms. When I open wubi it comes up with these options: -reboot now -manually reboot later I put reboot now, and it reboots with no changes or differences to my operating system. The installer does not pop up upon rebooting and I have no idea what to try. I am a totally newbie at this. Please help me. I am using an Asus computer.

    Hello Community, I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and it seems to work flawlessly. But today I tried to check some CDs and I was surprised that Ubuntu doesn't automatically refresh the CD/DVDs inserted in my media drive. I had to eject manually the CD/DVD from Ubuntu and then Insert the new CD and only then Ubuntu reads the data in the newly inserted CD/DVD. How can I fix the CD/DVD refresh for the media drive so that Ubuntu 10.10 recognize it automatically?

    I have the same problem as described in this question: http://superuser.com/questions/105928/dvd-cd-rom-drives-stop-working-in-windows-7 I know I have got some games that are using starforce and/or securerom. What I don't have is the upper and lower filter in my registry tag. Oh and a reboot temporarily fixes my problem. After a random time though it goes missing again. I found a Microsoft knowledge base article regarding this but since I didn't have the filter tags they couldn't help me. Does anyone have any other tips bar removing the despicable drm:s? I would like to go on playing my games so that is not really an option for me.

    I'm relatively new to Ubuntu and I'm trying to figure out how to play DVDs. I've read through a lot of forums, and got to the one asking how to read encrypted DVDs. I was able to do the first step and installed libdvdread4, but when I got to the second step of installing libdvdcss, I got what amounted to error messages. This is the command I ran: sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh Is there something important that I should know? As in, probably something basic that I don't know because I'm new...?

  • Windows does not recognize DVDs inserted into Blu-ray drive

    I am having a problem with a Blu-ray drive I have in my PC. Its a Blu-ray reader drive and it reads and writes CDs and DVDs. My drive has been working great for about a year now, but for some reason now, when I insert a DVD, Windows 7 doesn't recognize that there is a disc in the drive. I have to eject the disc and insert it again. I sometimes have to do this like 30 times before it "catches" and Windows 7 recognizes the disc. My discs are not scratched up. It does it even with brand new discs. I've tried about 10 different DVDs and the same problem happens. One thing that is weird though is that the problem does not seem to happen when I insert Blu-ray discs. The problem only happens with DVD discs. I tried running a drive lens cleaner. Same issue. Any suggestions?

    Hello I am trying to Burn a disk let me catch you up where I am at as I have a very SPECIFIC question and it may be difficult to explain but I will try to keep it simple: I have software already in an ISO file; I am using Daemon tools on a Windows based PC What I am wanting to do is create the actual Picture (not disk image file) that will show up on the Disk drive when I insert the disk Eg: if you put microsoft Office 11 in your comp. you open up My Computer to view all your HD and Disk drives you will see the image that microsoft put on the disk which is a silver CD and the Microsoft Office logo on the top corner. I would like to know how to edit my current ISO file or what I need to do in order to put "A PICTURE" or "AN ICON FILE" on the CD/DVD so that when I insert the disk into any PC it will show up with the PICTURE OR ICON file I chose and look proffessional. Thank you for your time
