• Macbook Pro keyboard with BootCamp - missing the Home/End/PageUp/PageDown keys

  Last year I converted from Windows to a MacBook Pro and went through the process of learning the ways of the Mac keyboard. In particular, I learned that Ctrl-left and Ctrl-right were the Mac way of doing Home and End. I'm now doing a project on Windows 7 on Bootcamp, and finding that I'm missing the Windows Home and End keys in a completely different way -- they don't exist, but the Mac combos don't work either. Any suggestions for getting this functionality somehow? Code editing is a real drag without these keys.

• How to make HOME or END keys work in mc running on OS X (ssh)

  I installed MacPorts on OS X 10.5 and I found out that when I connect to the computer using SSH and use mc - Midnight Commander - the HOME and END keys do not work. I have to mention that I'm using putty and I am able to use the keyboard very well on Linux machines like Fedora, Ubuntu,... Here is putty keyboard configuration (a configuration I found to be optimal over time): Backspace key: 127 Home/End keys: Standard Function keys: Xterm R6 Cursor keys: Normal Numpad: normal Terminal type string: xterm-color I'm looking for a command line solution/script that does these changes, this make much easier to create a prepare OS script for configuring a new OS.

  I am a long time Mac user and I'm now using a Ubuntu machine for development, and while I'm more or less used to a lot of the keyboard shortcuts, one thing I can't get used to is using the 'Home' and 'End' keys to move around lines of text. On a Mac you use "Command + right arrow" to go to the end of a line and "Command + left arrow" to go to the beginning. Is there a way to enable this kind of functionality in Linux? I'm not sure if this would be considered remapping, keyboard shortcuts, or what...

• Home and End keys in Emacs don't work when run from Tmux

  When I run Emacs from Tmux, the Home and End keys do not work (Home key runs the Search command as if C-s was pressed). The problem started when I added this in my ~/.bashrc file: TERM="xterm" export TERM I've read somewhere that TERM variable should not be set manually but this was the only way I was able to solve problems with colors. Without this setting I got different colors in Emacs when running directly from the terminal and different when running from Tmux. This option caused some of the keys not to work in Emacs when it was run from Tmux, so I added this line to my ~/.tmux.conf: set-window-option -g xterm-keys on This solved problem with all keys except for Home and End. Any ideas how to make these keys work again?

• gunzip unexpected end of file

  I like to write high volume data directly to a zip file via perl. Works like a champ! However, on some rare occasions I've found that gunzip can't uncompress them declaring an unexpected end-of-file. The thing is I can uncompress it with a simple perl script, which probably misses the corrupted record(s) at the end. My question is, does anyone know of a way to use a standard utility to do the same thing? Maybe with a 'compress-as-much-as-you-can' switch? -mark

• MS Access 2007 end user access

  I need some good advise. I have used Access for many years and I use Sharepoint but never the two combined. My newly created Access db needs to be shared with many users across the organization. The back end is SQL and the old way to distribute the database would be placing the db on a shared drive, connecting their PC ODBC connections to the SQL db and then they would open the database and have at it. This has become the OLD way. What is the best (and simpliest) way to allow the end users to utilize a frontend for data entry/edit reporting etc. Can I create a link through SharePoint and the user just open it from there. Your good advise is greatly approciated.

• php returns junk characters at end of everything

  php appears to be adding junk characters to the end of everything it returns on a friend's site. I'm not an admin on the server but I'd like to give an informed complaint to get this fixed. The site is http://daytoncodebreakers.org. You can see some junk at the end of every page on the site (what appear to be question marks with something else in the middle). I originally thought this was a wordpress issue, but check out http://daytoncodebreakers.org/whereisini.php (which is just a call to phpinfo), and http://daytoncodebreakers.org/hello.php (which is just 'Hello World'). I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate site, but I think this is a server config issue, so I'm posting it here (rather than stackoverflow or superuser). Feel free to move it if want.

• How to/syntax to checkout several modules by release tag names in Hudson

  Hi all, Under Hudson, does somebody know how to specify a release tag name in a cvs checkout ? At the moment, i only specify the CVSROOT and modules names to checkout my project in my workspace. I tried to add '-r TAG_NAME' for each module name, but it doesn't work. I think that this functionality exist, so if someone as the right syntax/way to do it.. :) Thanks in advance for your help. • Explicit script end tag always converted to self-closing

  I'm using xslt to transform xml to an aspx file. In the xslt, I have a script tag to include a jquery.js file. To get it to work with IE, the script tag must have an explicit closing tag.   Files uploaded to Google Drive sometimes incorrectly have a hidden tag when listed via the Document List v3 REST API: <category scheme='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005/labels' term='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005/labels#hidden' label='hidden'/> This happens if: a subfolder is created via the Google Drive desktop client and files are copied in, or a folder is uploaded via the Google Drive web client. The folder does not have the hidden tag, but the files that were uploaded do. The files do not have this tag if: they are individually uploaded via the Google Drive web client to the subfolder, or they are uploaded via the REST API to the subfolder, or they are uploaded via the desktop client to the My Drive root. The files and folders show up in Google Drive whether they have the hidden tag or not. We're using the API with the following scope: https://docs.google.com/feeds/ https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/ https://docs.googleusercontent.com/ I have verified and can recreate this with the OAuth 2.0 playground. Google Drive desktop client version 1.3.3209.2600 on Win7 32-bit I guess these must be bugs in the API...

• Removing a pattern from the beggining and end of a string in ruby

  So I found myself needing to remove <br /> tags from the beginning and end of strings in a project I'm working on. I made a quick little method that does what I need it to do but I'm not convinced it's the best way to go about doing this sort of thing. I suspect there's probably a handy regular expression I can use to do it in only a couple of lines. Here's what I got: def remove_breaks(text) if text != nil and text != "" text.strip! index = text.rindex("<br />") while index != nil and index == text.length - 6 text = text[0, text.length - 6] text.strip! index = text.rindex("<br />") end text.strip! index = text.index("<br />") while index != nil and index == 0 text = test[6, text.length] text.strip! index = text.index("<br />") end end return text end Now the "<br />" could really be anything, and it'd probably be more useful to make a general use function that takes as an argument the string that needs to be stripped from the beginning and end. I'm open to any suggestions on how to make this cleaner because this just seems like it can be improved.

• Is there a way to tag MP3 the way you can do with Photos in Live Photo Gallery or Picazza?

  I really do love the way you can tag pictures in Windows Live Photo Gallery. I find it incredibly useful to be able to tag the same picture with the tag "Cancun" and have it been automatically included when I look for the tag "Beach", "Trips" and "Fun Pic", since its a child tag of the former and also has a tag for the later. I also like that I can look for rating in the pics. On the other side, tagging MP3 has always been a pain in the ass, because I just find it to hard to classify music! Is it pop? techno? techno-pop? rock? indie-rock? indie-post-classic-pop-techno? I hate how ID3 just have one tag for genre, so I've tried tricks like putting all the genres I think it fits into, and then having lists in Winamp (which I dont use anymore) that filter out words in the ID3 tags (ie, Tag: Genre, Contains: Rock = rock list). But then, what about moods? I want to be able to tag my songs in genres and in moods, you know, happy, concentrate/work, party, romantic (wink wink), etc. Is there any way to do this, preferably in a way in which tags could carry on to other music players?   The site I'm working on uses Umbraco and has xslt macros to generate dynamic page title tags - but the title tags generated contain lots of whitespace and linefeeds. Now these macros can be changed so I'm sure that the contents of the title tag can be condensed, but at this stage of development we'd rather not do any work that is not essential. I've checked W3 and Google but I'm struggling to find something conclusive on whitespace. So I'd like to ask is a title tag formatted like this: <title> Sitename - The official blah blah blah - Section - Section Search Results </title> any worse for SEO than: <title>Sitename - The official blah blah blah - Section - Section Search Results</title> ... and are there any other implications to leaving the title tag with whitespace in it?

• Email sent from Centos end up in user spam folder

  I am facing this issue, I use the default postfix MTA in centos but the mail end up in user spam folder, but this does not seem to be a problem in Debian using exim4, both host have hostname and domain name configured, and relay mail through external smtp host. Both configuration and recieving email header are attached. The different seems that Debian has this additional (envelope tag) and (from) tag other than some minor syntax differences. Any help to resolve is appreciated. The IP address and DNS is masked as follow: 1.2.3.4 = My IP address smtp.host.com = external smtp host for my company [email protected] = account at smtp host centos.abc.com = Local centos server debian.abc.com = Local debian server Thanks.   I'm pretty new to the jsp and struts way of doing things and so far I like what I see. My current question is with the use of the struts select tag. I have a page that displays a number of dropdown boxes using struts select currently the options are hard coded in the jsp. I would like to populate them based on a properties file. However I have no idea where to start. I assume I need to take the contents of a properties file into an Array (of some sort) and assign that to the select tag. My questions are: Where does the code t build the array go? How do I connect that array to the select tag?

  I am trying to output a XML file using Python and lxml However, I notice one thing that if a tag has no text, it does not close itself. An example of this would be: root = etree.Element('document') rootTree = etree.ElementTree(root) firstChild = etree.SubElement(root, 'test') The output of this is: <document> <test/> </document I want the output to be: <document> <test> </test> </document> So basically I want to close a tag which has no text, but is used to the attribute value. How do I do that? And also, what is such a tag called? I would have Googled it, but I don't know how to search for it.

• Working with the Grails g:timeZoneSelect tag?

  I am wanting to use the g:timeZoneSelect tag within my application, problem is im finding the resulting html select to be quite overwhelming. Over 600 options are being displayed, IMHO this is to much to display to the user. Maybe someone could point me to an example of a much more manageable list of timezones? Maybe you have seen a site that does timezone selection well? Im sure over 600 option is "technically" correct, but this will just look like noise to the user. The display value of the timezone is to long. E.g. "CST, Central Standard Time (South Australia/New South Wales) 9.5:30.0" Just "CST, Central Standard Time" or "Australia/Broken_Hill" would be better Is there a way to address these issues via tag attributes of some sort (cant find any in the docs) or config that I am unaware of? Or, is my best bet to wrap an html select within a custom tag lib and "roll my own" solution (Id prefer not to). Thanks

  I cannot get the following route to fire when a url is requested from a script tag. If i drop the url into the address bar of the browser all is fine, but is not triggered from the javascript tag? Any ideas?

• TeamCity Mercurial, How to handle tags and releases

  Hi First off, i'm new to Teamcity comming from CC. I have a server up and running and building my projects, so far so good :). My problem is this: Whenever I make a Mercurial Tag, I would like TeamCity to react in a special way, so that the resulting binaries/artifacts from the Tag build, are made avaliable for download (automatic release when tagging). In short can I do automated release so that when I create a Tag AND it builds successfully then the result is copied to some location X, but ONLY when I Tag. Im pretty sure that this can be done, but when I read the posts around the net and read the documentation, I tend to get a little confused about artifacts/build scripts/publishing and how to do it. Can anyone give me some hints about where/how to start or guide me to a location with a tutorial/example of how to do this? I want it soooooo bad :-D. Kind regards
