  • How do I backup my C++ Builder component installation?

    - by Gary Benade
Hi I finally have my c++ Builder 2010 installation the way I want it, with all my components upgraded and installed. (touch wood) I have been working with c++builder since version 1 and I know from countless previous traumatic experiences that this state of affairs could change in an instant. I would like to backup the installation and component set. Is there a way to do this? A tool perhaps? A menu command that I have maybe missed all these years? I don't want to have to reinstall all the components from the bpl source again. I make nightly backup images of my entire drive, I would like to do this for c++builder only if possible. If it's a matter of simply copying files, which files would I need to copy? Are there entries in the registry that would need to be restored? Thanks in advance for any thoughts and suggestions

  • Precision of Interval for PL/SQL Function value

    - by Gary
Generally, when you specify a function the scale/precision/size of the return datatype is undefined. For example, you say FUNCTION show_price RETURN NUMBER or FUNCTION show_name RETURN VARCHAR2. You are not allowed to have FUNCTION show_price RETURN NUMBER(10,2) or FUNCTION show_name RETURN VARCHAR2(20), and the function return value is unrestricted. This is documented functionality. Now, I get an precision error (ORA-01873) if I push 9999 hours (about 400 days) into the following. The limit is because the default days precision is 2 DECLARE v_int INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND(0); FUNCTION hhmm_to_interval return INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND IS v_hhmm INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND(0); BEGIN v_hhmm := to_dsinterval('PT9999H'); RETURN v_hhmm; -- END hhmm_to_interval; BEGIN v_int := hhmm_to_interval; end; / and it won't allow the precision to be specified directly as part of the datatype returned by the function. DECLARE v_int INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND(0); FUNCTION hhmm_to_interval return INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND IS v_hhmm INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND(0); BEGIN v_hhmm := to_dsinterval('PT9999H'); RETURN v_hhmm; -- END hhmm_to_interval; BEGIN v_int := hhmm_to_interval; end; / I can use a SUBTYPE DECLARE subtype t_int is INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND(0); v_int INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND(0); FUNCTION hhmm_to_interval return t_int IS v_hhmm INTERVAL DAY (4) TO SECOND(0); BEGIN v_hhmm := to_dsinterval('PT9999H'); RETURN v_hhmm; -- END hhmm_to_interval; BEGIN v_int := hhmm_to_interval; end; / Any drawbacks to the subtype approach ? Any alternatives (eg some place to change a default precision) ? Working with 10gR2.

  • C check before writing to closed pipe

    - by Gary
Is there an easy way to check if a pipe is closed before writing to it in C? I have a child and parent process, and the parent has a pipe to write to the child. However, if the child closes the pipe and the parent tries to read - I get a broken pipe error. So how can I check to make sure I can write to the pipe, so I can handle it as an error if I can't? Thanks!

  • C automatically assign port

    - by Gary
Hi, I just wanted to know how to use C to automatically assign a free port (and see what was used) if a specific port number is not provided. For example, i'm using this: struct sockaddr_in address; address->sin_family = AF_INET; address->sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY; address->sin_port = htons( port ); But how can I replace the sin_port assignment and let C automatically assign for me? Thanks!

  • SharePoint: Filtering a List that has Folders

    - by Gary McGill
I have a SharePoint document library that has a folder structure used for organizing the documents (but also for controlling access, via permissions on the folders). The documents in the library are updated every month, and we store every month's version of the document in the same folder; there's a "month" column used for filtering that will contain values like Jan 09, Feb 09, etc. It looks like this: Title Month ----- ----- SubFolder 1 SubFolder 2 [] Interesting Facts Jan 09 [] Interesting Facts Feb 09 [] Interesting Facts Mar 09 [] Fascinating Numbers Jan 09 [] Fascinating Numbers Feb 09 ... Now, because users will generally be most interested in the 'current' month, I'd like them to be able to apply a filter, and select (say) Mar 09. However, if they do this using the built-in filtering, it also filters out the folders, and they can no longer navigate the folder hierarchy. This is no good - I want them to be able to move between folders with the filter intact, so that they don't need to keep switching it off and on again. I figured I might be able to use a custom view (selecting where type=folder or month=[month]), and to an extent that does work. However, I can only get it to work for a fixed month, whereas I need the user to be able to select the month - perhaps via a drop-down control on the page (and I don't want to create 60 views for 5 years' worth of months, nor do I want to have to create a new view every month). I thought it might be possible to create a view in code (rather than via the UI), but I've not been able to figure out how to get a dynamic value (a user-specific setting) into the CAML query. Any pointers gratefully appreciated! And by the way, I am aware of the dogma that folders are bad, and that everything should just be a list. However, having considered the alternatives, I still favour using folders - if I can solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

  • Is there any online free movie information api's?

    - by Gary Willoughby
For music there is the Gracenote CDDB SDK, etc. but does an online service exist for getting information about movies? The only solution i can see at the minute is querying IMDB and scraping the page. The problem i have is that i have a list of film titles and i want to retrieve stuff like the plot, director, cast, when released, get dvd cover art, etc..

  • How can I do more than one level of cascading deletes in Linq?

    - by Gary McGill
If I have a Customers table linked to an Orders table, and I want to delete a customer and its corresponding orders, then I can do: dataContext.Orders.DeleteAllOnSubmit(customer.Orders); dataContext.Customers.DeleteOnSubmit(customer); ...which is great. However, what if I also have an OrderItems table, and I want to delete the order items for each of the orders deleted? I can see how I could use DeleteAllOnSubmit to cause the deletion of all the order items for a single order, but how can I do it for all the orders?

  • Get Json and output to text file undecoded

    - by Gary
    Hi, I want to fetch json script and write it to a txt file undecoded, exactly how it was originally. I do have a script that I use that I am modifying but unsure what to commands to use. This script decodes, which is what I want to advoid. //Get Age list($bstat,$bage,$bdata) = explode("\t",check_file('./advise/roadsnow.txt',60*2+15)); //Test Age if ( $bage > $CacheMaxAge ) { //echo "The if statement evaluated to true so get new file and reset $bage"; $bage="0"; $file = file_get_contents('http://somesite.jsontxt'); $out = (json_decode($file)); $report = wordwrap($out->mainText, 100, "\n"); //$valid = $out->validTo; //write the data to a text file called roadsnow.txt $myFile = "./advise/roadsnow.txt"; $fh = fopen($myFile, 'w') or die("can't open file"); $stringData = $report; fwrite($fh, $stringData); } else { //echo the test evaluated to false; file is not stale so read local cache //print "we are at the read local cache"; $stringData = file_get_contents("./advise/roadsnow.txt"); } // if/else is done carry on with processing //Format file $data = $stringData

  • Should I return IEnumerable<T> or IQueryable<T> from my DAL?

    - by Gary '-'
I know this could be opinion, but I'm looking for best practices. As I understand, IQueryable implements IEnumerable, so in my DAL, I currently have method signatures like the following: IEnumerable<Product> GetProducts(); IEnumerable<Product> GetProductsByCategory(int cateogoryId); Product GetProduct(int productId); Should I be using IQueryable here? What are the pros and cons of either approach? Note that I am planning on using the Repository pattern so I will have a class like so: public class ProductRepository { DBDataContext db = new DBDataContext(<!-- connection string -->); public IEnumerable<Product> GetProductsNew(int daysOld) { return db.GetProducts() .Where(p => p.AddedDateTime > DateTime.Now.AddDays(-daysOld )); } } Should I change my IEnumerable<T> to IQueryable<T>? What advantages/disadvantages are there to one or the other?

  • select failing with C program but not shell

    - by Gary
So I have a parent and child process, and the parent can read output from the child and send to the input of the child. So far, everything has been working fine with shell scripts, testing commands which input and output data. I just tested with a simple C program and couldn't get it to work. Here's the C program: #include <stdio.h> int main( void ) { char stuff[80]; printf("Enter some stuff:\n"); scanf("%s", stuff); return 0; } The problem with with the C program is that my select fails to read from the child fd and hence the program cannot finish. Here's the bit that does the select.. //wait till child is ready fd_set set; struct timeval timeout; FD_ZERO( &set ); // initialize fd set FD_SET( PARENT_READ, &set ); // add child in to set timeout.tv_sec = 3; timeout.tv_usec = 0; int r = select(FD_SETSIZE, &set, NULL, NULL, &timeout); if( r < 1 ) { // we didn't get any input exit(1); } Does anyone have any idea why this would happen with the C program and not a shell one? Thanks!

  • Using ASP.NET SQL Membership Provider, how do I store my own per-user data?

    - by Gary McGill
I'm using the ASP.NET SQL Membership Provider. So, there's an aspnet_Users table that has details of each of my users. (Actually, the aspnet_Membership table seems to contain most of the actual data). I now want to store some per-user information in my database, so I thought I'd just create a new table with a UserId (GUID) column and an FK relationship to aspnet_Users. However, I then discovered that I can't easily get access to the UserId since it's not exposed via the membership API. (I know I can access it via the ProviderUserKey, but it seems like the API is abstracting away the internal UserID in favor of the UserName, and I don't want to go too far against the grain). So, I thought I should instead put a LoweredUserName column in my table, and create an FK relationship to aspnet_Users using that. Bzzzt. Wrong again, because while there is a unique index in aspnet_Users that includes the LoweredUserName, it also includes the ApplicationId - so in order to create my FK relationship, I'd need to have an ApplicationId column in my table too. At first I thought: fine, I'm only dealing with a single application, so I'll just add such a column and give it a default value. Then I realised that the ApplicationId is a GUID, so it'd be a pain to do this. Not hard exactly, but until I roll out my DB I can't predict what the GUID is going to be. I feel like I'm missing something, or going about things the wrong way. What am I supposed to do?

  • C child read giving "resource temporarily unavailable"

    - by Gary
So I have a file stream from a parent process to a child - and most of the time it works fine. However, when reading from it multiple times quickly, using fgets() will return NULL and the error is set to "resource temporarily unavailable". The problem is intermittent - and running the script that does the reads will sometimes have fgets return NULL and sometimes wont. Could anyone help me stop this error from happening? Thanks!

  • PHP: Grab an image from a stream (in an img tag) but if it's not there, i don't want the img tag wri

    - by Gary Willoughby
I currently have code like this in a web based file called 'view_file.php' to grab an image from an internal network. <img src="put_file.php?type=<?=$TN_TYPE;?>&path=<?=$TN_PATH;?>&filename=<?=$TN_FILENAME;?>" /> The 'put_file.php' script allows access to an internal server that we don't want to expose to the internet. This script checks to see if an image is available and if it is, sends an image header and then uses readfile() to stream the image to the 'view_file.php' page. The problem is if there isn't an image available, instead of streaming a temporary 'spacer.gif' i want to not have the img tag written at all. Any Ideas how to do this? I'm thinking maybe move the img tag into the 'put_file.php' script, but how to mix strings and steams?

  • Reflection in unit tests for checking code coverage

    - by Gary
Here's the scenario. I have VO (Value Objects) or DTO objects that are just containers for data. When I take those and split them apart for saving into a DB that (for lots of reasons) doesn't map to the VO's elegantly, I want to test to see if each field is successfully being created in the database and successfully read back in to rebuild the VO. Is there a way I can test that my tests cover every field in the VO? I had an idea about using reflection to iterate through the fields of the VO's as part of the solution, but maybe you guys have solved the problem before? I want this test to fail when I add fields in the VO, and don't remember to add checks for it in my tests.

  • Pre-populating Radio Buttons with Java

    - by Gary Deuces Rozanski
Is it possible to pre-populate a radio button, using jsp, depending on the value in the database? If so, how? I have done research here at StackOverflow & Google but with no real solution. p.s. I hope somebody can help me out with a question. As you will see from previous questions, I am not a developer, but get loaded with questions being the most technical on my team. oh the joy. Any help will be appreciated & I apologize in advance if my question is dumb.

  • Can I force the auto-generated Linq-to-SQL classes to use an OUTER JOIN?

    - by Gary McGill
Let's say I have an Order table which has a FirstSalesPersonId field and a SecondSalesPersonId field. Both of these are foreign keys that reference the SalesPerson table. For any given order, either one or two salespersons may be credited with the order. In other words, FirstSalesPersonId can never be NULL, but SecondSalesPersonId can be NULL. When I drop my Order and SalesPerson tables onto the "Linq to SQL Classes" design surface, the class builder spots the two FK relationships from the Order table to the SalesPerson table, and so the generated Order class has a SalesPerson field and a SalesPerson1 field (which I can rename to SalesPerson1 and SalesPerson2 to avoid confusion). Because I always want to have the salesperson data available whenever I process an order, I am using DataLoadOptions.LoadWith to specify that the two salesperson fields are populated when the order instance is populated, as follows: dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson1); dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson2); The problem I'm having is that Linq to SQL is using something like the following SQL to load an order: SELECT ... FROM Order O INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP1 ON SP1.salesPersonId = O.firstSalesPersonId INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP2 ON SP2.salesPersonId = O.secondSalesPersonId This would make sense if there were always two salesperson records, but because there is sometimes no second salesperson (secondSalesPersonId is NULL), the INNER JOIN causes the query to return no records in that case. What I effectively want here is to change the second INNER JOIN into a LEFT OUTER JOIN. Is there a way to do that through the UI for the class generator? If not, how else can I achieve this? (Note that because I'm using the generated classes almost exclusively, I'd rather not have something tacked on the side for this one case if I can avoid it).

  • Decoding and caching json every 60 minutes

    - by Gary
Hi, How do I do this on a php webpage? I want to get and decode a json string and display the results as html on my page, however, I don't want it hotlinking back to the source. If I could write the decoded string to a txt file say weather.txt on the server and keep the html formatting and do it so that the page won't fetch the json script until 60 minutes has passed since the last time it was fetched regardless of how many times the page is opened during that 60 minute period and the weather.txt is viewed. All I can come up with is a simple script that hotlinks, everything else I have tried simply failed. $file = file_get_contents('http://sample.com/weather'); $out = (json_decode($file)); echo $out-mainText; Will appreciate any help with this.

  • C IPC waiting for child

    - by Gary
So I have a program which creates a child process and executes a command (for example, ls). The parent will then use pipes to send to and get from the child. This works fine when I'm inputting commands myself from the command line. However, when the input comes from a file, it seems like the child doesn't have enough time to run and I get NULL when reading from the pipe - even though there will be information coming from it. Short of using sleep(), is there a better way to make sure the child has run before trying to read from it? Thanks a lot!
