• Microsoft Ergonomic 7000 keyboard + mouse lag

  I recently bought a new Microsoft Ergonomic 7000 keyboard. I started to use it with my Ubuntu 12.04 and it lags all the time. I try to be more specific: Even on a minor CPU usage the mouse lags. By minor I mean firefox loading a webpage, or opening an application like conky, gnome-terminal etc. When higher CPU usage occurs the keyboard is lagging too, but by this I mean it misses my hits, so what I type won't appear later. What I tried so far (and did not work)? Disable autosuspend (echo -1 to sys/bus/usb.../autosuspend) and at the same place set level to "on". I have tried several video drivers: Vesa, radeon, newest catalyst (and catalyst beta too) When my keyboard and/or mouse lags I tried an other USB keyboard which works perfectly and the same for the mouse. I tried the keyboard and mouse on a different computer with Linux (Ubuntu, Arch, OpenSuse) too, the same problem appears but not on Windows. I tried to replace the battery sets, and to change channel on the dongle. And also tried to use the dongle from other USB ports. On the same time I am able to use any other wireless mouse. I changed the XkbModel to "microsoft7000" but it did not solve anything.   Currently we are in the process of finalizing which language out of Java, Python should be used for Automation using selenium webdriver and a suitable unit testing frameworks. I have made use of Junit, TestNG and webdriver while using with Java and have designed frameworks without much fuss before. I am new to python though I came across pyhton's unit testing frameworks like unittest, pyunit, nose e.t.c but I have doubts if they would be as successful as testNG or Java. I would like to analyze point by point when used with selenium webdriver as below: 1)I have read that as Python is an interpreted language hence it's execution is slower, so say if I have to run 1000 test cases which take about 6 hours to run in Java, would python take considerably longer time for the same test cases like 8 hours? 2)Can the Python unit testing framework be as flexible as a Java unit testing framework like testNG in terms or Grouping the tests, parallel execution, skipping test. e.t.c 3)Also one point that I think of is that Python with selenium webdriver doeasn't have as big or learned community as we have for Java with webdriver, say if I run into trouble with something I am more likely to find an answer for Java as compared to python? 4)Somewhat related to point 3, is it safe to rely on tools, plugins or even webderiver's python's binding as a continuously well maintained? 5)One major drawback as I see while using python's unit testing framework is lack of boilerplate code or libraries for nicely illustrative HTML reports preferably historical reports with Pie charts, bar graphs and timelines as we have in case of Java like Allure, TestNG's default reports, reportNG or Junit reports with the help of ANT as shown below Allure Reports Junit Historical reports Also I would like to emphasize on the fact if there is a way for one to write the framework in java and make libraries or utilities according to out application in webdriver which can easily be called or integrated in with python code or modules? • Pointer position way off in Java Application menu's when using gnome-shell

  When using any java application in gnome-shell if the window is maximised the pointer position is way off; but only on the menu's, in the editor, or the side panel, the pointer is fine. This only presents itself when the window is maximized, and it seems that the further away from 0x0 the window is when you maximise it, the bigger the pointer offset. From what I have gathered it has to do with the window not updating it's size when it gets maximised. The other issue is that when a gnome-shell notification appears, when clicking on it, I lose the ability to type in the editor, I can select text etc, but can't give it focus to type. I must bring up some other text input (e.g. right click on a file on the left, select rename, which brings up a rename dialog) after that I can type in the editor again. So, how can I fix this? • Why do almost all Java jobs (postings and from recruiters) say J2EE rather than the newer JEE versions?

  I'm still fairly new to Java but have definite comfort now working within the framework I am used to which would mainly be focused on Spring, Hibernate and JEE 6. It seems like every time I talk to a recruiter all they do is throw around the keyword "J2EE", they need someone with J2EE experience, etc. I am aware that legacy systems would still be using J2EE but it seems like at least some jobs would be advertising JEE now. Just curious if they are just stuck with some keyword that they can't seem to wrap their heads around it having a newer version or what. Having not done Java all that long, I haven't used J2EE specifically but wouldn't it be fairly easy to adapt having used the newer enterprise edition? Just curious to hear anything about this from someone with more experience.

  I have Solaris Studio almost working. My only issue seems to be Java. Here is what I get: ============================ aflory@aflory-laptop:~$ solstudio & [1] 1723 aflory@aflory-laptop:~$ Solaris Studio is unable to find a supported version of Java. Solaris Studio supports Java version 1.6.0_13 and newer and looks for a valid Java installation in the following order: 1) Location specified with --jdkhome command line option 2) In PATH environment variable 3) At /usr/jdk/latest location, if exists 4) At /usr/java location, if exists 5) At /usr location, if exists ============================ I try typing --jdkhome in the console but I get an command not found error. I have added the following to my /home/aflory/.bashrc file: PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_24/bin:/home/aflory/solstudio12.2/bin export PATH I am running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit. I tried installing the 64 bit version of Java JDK, then I tried installing the 32bit version of Java JDK. I don't believe there is a 64bit version of Solaris Studio.

  I have a 32-bit Java installed just for Chrome and 64-bit Java JDK for everything else. When I type java -version in the cmd, the 32-bit Java answers: C:\>java -version java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing) This is the 32-bit JRE installed for Chrome (the installer name was chromeinstall.exe). However, I'd like the default Java to be this one: C:\>"Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -version java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) And for the fun part, only the 64-bit one is in PATH! C:\>echo %PATH% C:\Windows\system32;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin (snipped irrelevant entries) So long story short: 64-bit JRE is in PATH, but 32-bit JRE is ran by default. What is happening here? • Cross platform development query

  I'm a Microsoft developer mainly, but there are a couple of small-ish projects I'd like to fiddle with which would benefit from being cross platform. The platforms I want to target are: Windows, Linux, Mac, Android and preferably iPhone, web (running in a browser). I need 3D (Around the level of support seen in something like Minecraft (I'm not writing Minecraft)), some networking. I'm pretty certain Java would work on all except iPhone. Looking at the "related questions" above it's offered up QT (no browser or phone afaik) and also HTML/CSS/Javascript (3D? package for desktop?) The other alternative is to have seperate versions for seperate platforms, developed with some common code where possible. That option isn't something I know anything about. Does anyone have experience of this sort of conundrum? I figured here was better than SO, because I imagine there are compromises which extend beyond technical choice. Finally, this is not a commercial operation, so some of the very expensive cross platform tools are out of the question unless they offer some sort of community edition. Thanks for your time.

• Suggestions to start a cross-platform project

  I have a big project in my head, it should be cross-platform (Win, Max and Linux), online (Client - Server) and with 3D graphics. I would like some suggestions to start with the right things. Currently I'm a PHP/MySQL coder, I used to code in C and Pascal on DOS ages (Borland Times ;)), my C knowlegde need a refresh but it's ok. I guess C++ it's the right language. What platform and what i should use to code? I can choose from all three platforms. My idea was to use Visual Studio 2010 C++, but i'm not sure if it support Native code. What kind of libraries should i use? I guessed OpenSSL for the login, OpenGL for graphics part. For the Audio or the GUI? Any other suggestions are well accepted. I know it's a "BIG DEAL" but I have no rush and it'll be a free-time project, only for my pleasure. Thank you in advance.

When thrown nothing is painted. Another interesting thing is the timing of the throwing. I am unable to find any logical patern, as sometimes it is thrown as soon as I initiate the class and sometimes it needs more then five minutes. In addition to this, as far as I tested there is no single action that calls repaint() that triggers it or rather all do. I am new to Java and all the other exceptions had the class and row number of where they were thrown so I don't know what to do here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
