  • How do I attach a link (to a View) to an image in ASP.NET MVC?

    - by Ryan Pitts
Ok, so here is my situation. I am creating a web application using ASP.NET MVC 2 using the C# language. I have programmed in HTML, CSS, and PHP for several years and I am very new to ASP.NET. The part that I am having trouble with is the image gallery. The setup: I have a link on the navigation bar that goes to a "Galleries" page. This page will show a list of galleries. Each gallery has a title, an image, and a description. All of this information is pulled from an XML file. I'm using the XML file like a database. I wanted to use this method so that i could easily update the list of galleries and have the updated XML file automatically be reflected by the website. Now, the galleries should link to an "Images" page. This page will display a list of images within the gallery based on what gallery was selected. This page will also pull from an XML file. The problem: I cannot seem to attach a dynamic link to the image? I am also stuck and not sure how to get the correct View to display. I know I need to do something with the controllers and models, right? I have some code if needed? I would greatly appreciate any help or direction for this! Thanks!

Here is the latest in my link-listing series.  Also check out my VS 2010 and .NET 4 series and ASP.NET MVC 2 series for other on-going blog series I’m working on. [In addition to blogging, I am also now using Twitter for quick updates and to share links. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] ASP.NET MVC How to Localize an ASP.NET MVC Application: Michael Ceranski has a good blog post that describes how to localize ASP.NET MVC 2 applications. ASP.NET MVC with jTemplates Part 1 and Part 2: Steve Gentile has a nice two-part set of blog posts that demonstrate how to use the jTemplate and DataTable jQuery libraries to implement client-side data binding with ASP.NET MVC. CascadingDropDown jQuery Plugin for ASP.NET MVC: Raj Kaimal has a nice blog post that demonstrates how to implement a dynamically constructed cascading dropdownlist on the client using jQuery and ASP.NET MVC. How to Configure VS 2010 Code Coverage for ASP.NET MVC Unit Tests: Visual Studio enables you to calculate the “code coverage” of your unit tests.  This measures the percentage of code within your application that is exercised by your tests – and can give you a sense of how much test coverage you have.  Gunnar Peipman demonstrates how to configure this for ASP.NET MVC projects. Shrinkr URL Shortening Service Sample: A nice open source application and code sample built by Kazi Manzur that demonstrates how to implement a URL Shortening Services (like bit.ly) using ASP.NET MVC 2 and EF4.  More details here. Creating RSS Feeds in ASP.NET MVC: Damien Guard has a nice post that describes a cool new “FeedResult” class he created that makes it easy to publish and expose RSS feeds from within ASP.NET MVC sites. NoSQL with MongoDB, NoRM and ASP.NET MVC Part 1 and Part 2: Nice two-part blog series by Shiju Varghese on how to use MongoDB (a document database) with ASP.NET MVC.  If you are interested in document databases also make sure to check out the Raven DB project from Ayende. How to maintain control of your code using Layer Diagrams: Another great blog post by Jennifer Marsman that demonstrates how to setup a “layer diagram” within VS 2010 to enforce clean layering within your applications.  This enables you to enforce a compiler error if someone inadvertently violates a layer design rule. Collapse Selection in Solution Explorer Extension: Useful VS 2010 extension that enables you to quickly collapse “child nodes” within the Visual Studio Solution Explorer.  If you have deeply nested project structures this extension is useful. Silverlight and Windows Phone 7 Building a Simple Windows Phone 7 Application: A nice tutorial blog post that demonstrates how to take advantage of Expression Blend to create an animated Windows Phone 7 application. • Building an ASP.Net 4.5 Web forms application - part 4

    - by nikolaosk
?his is the fourth post in a series of posts on how to design and implement an ASP.Net 4.5 Web Forms store that sells posters on line. There are 3 more posts in this series of posts. Please make sure you read them first. You can find the first post here. You can find the second post here. You can find the third post here.  In this new post we will build on the previous posts and we will demonstrate how to display the posters per category. We will add a ListView control on the PosterList.aspx and will bind data from the database. We will use the various templates. Then we will write code in the PosterList.aspx.cs to fetch data from the database.1) Launch Visual Studio and open your solution where your project lives2) Open the PosterList.aspx page. We will add some markup in this page. Have a look at the code below  <section class="posters-featured">                    <ul>                         <asp:ListView ID="posterList" runat="server"                            DataKeyNames="PosterID"                            GroupItemCount="3" ItemType="PostersOnLine.DAL.Poster" SelectMethod="GetPosters">                            <EmptyDataTemplate>                                      <table id="Table1" runat="server">                                            <tr>                                                  <td>We have no data.</td>                                            </tr>                                     </table>                              </EmptyDataTemplate>                              <EmptyItemTemplate>                                     <td id="Td1" runat="server" />                              </EmptyItemTemplate>                              <GroupTemplate>                                    <tr ID="itemPlaceholderContainer" runat="server">                                          <td ID="itemPlaceholder" runat="server"></td>                                    </tr>                              </GroupTemplate>                              <ItemTemplate>                                    <td id="Td2" runat="server">                                          <table>                                                <tr>                                                      <td>&nbsp;</td>                                                      <td>                                                <a href="PosterDetails.aspx?posterID=<%#:Item.PosterID%>">                                                    <img src="<%#:Item.PosterImgpath%>"                                                        width="100" height="75" border="1"/></a>                                             </td>                                            <td>                                                <a href="PosterDetails.aspx?posterID=<%#:Item.PosterID%>">                                                    <span class="PosterName">                                                        <%#:Item.PosterName%>                                                    </span>                                                </a>                                                            <br />                                                <span class="PosterPrice">                                                               <b>Price: </b><%#:String.Format("{0:c}", Item.PosterPrice)%>                                                </span>                                                <br />                                                        </td>                                                </tr>                                          </table>                                    </td>                              </ItemTemplate>                              <LayoutTemplate>                                    <table id="Table2" runat="server">                                          <tr id="Tr1" runat="server">                                                <td id="Td3" runat="server">                                                      <table ID="groupPlaceholderContainer" runat="server">                                                            <tr ID="groupPlaceholder" runat="server"></tr>                                                      </table>                                                </td>                                          </tr>                                          <tr id="Tr2" runat="server"><td id="Td4" runat="server"></td></tr>                                    </table>                              </LayoutTemplate>                        </asp:ListView>                    </ul>               </section>  3) We have a ListView control on the page called PosterList. I set the ItemType property to the Poster class and then the SelectMethod to the GetPosters method.  I will create this method later on.   (ItemType="PostersOnLine.DAL.Poster" SelectMethod="GetPosters")Then in the code below  I have the data-binding expression Item  available and the control becomes strongly typed. So when the user clicks on the link of the poster's category the relevant information will be displayed (photo, name and price)                                            <td>                                                <a href="PosterDetails.aspx?posterID=<%#:Item.PosterID%>">                                                    <img src="<%#:Item.PosterImgpath%>"                                                        width="100" height="75" border="1"/></a>                                             </td>4)  Now we need to write the simple method to populate the ListView control. It is called GetPosters method. The code follows   public IQueryable<Poster> GetPosters([QueryString("id")] int? PosterCatID)        {            PosterContext ctx = new PosterContext();            IQueryable<Poster> query = ctx.Posters;            if (PosterCatID.HasValue && PosterCatID > 0)            {                query = query.Where(p=>p.PosterCategoryID==PosterCatID);            }            return query;                    } This is a very simple method that returns information about posters related to the PosterCatID passed to it.I bind the value from the query string to the PosterCatID parameter at run time. This is all possible due to the QueryStringAttribute class that lives inside the System.Web.ModelBinding and gets the value of the query string variable id.5) I run my application and then click on the "Midfilders" link. Have a look at the picture below to see the results.  In the Site.css file I added some new CSS rules to make everything more presentable. .posters-featured {    width:840px;    background-color:#efefef;}.posters-featured   a:link, a:visited,    a:active, a:hover {        color: #000033;    }.posters-featured    a:hover {        background-color: #85c465;    }  6) I run the application again and this time I do not choose any category, I simply navigate to the PosterList.aspx page. I see all the posters since no query string was passed as a parameter.Have a look at the picture below   ?ake sure you place breakpoints in the code so you can see what is really going on.In the next post I will show you how to display poster details.Hope it helps!!!

  • Ajaxing a link in a table

    - by Colin Desmond
I have a table of results in an ASP.Net MVC page where the last column is an View Details link. I want to have the user click the View Details link and an AJAX method be called to open the results in floating dialog. What I am struggling with is how to link the AJAX call to the link in the results table. I was using a link which embedded the ~/ControllerName/ViewDetails/InstanceId link directly in it. Clicking it took the user to a new page and it is this behaviour I want to replace with an AJAX call and a dialog window. Now I want to attach a jQuery handler to the link to trigger the AJAX call and I can't see how to do this other than write an jQuery handler for each row in the results table. There must be a way to mark the link as an ViewDetails link (using a class?) and attach the jQuery click handler to all instances of type class ViewDetails.

  • VS 2010 Layer Diagram Validation Error is Showing A Dependency That Doesn't Even Exist (AV0001)

    - by Dan
I'm getting the following validation error on my layer diagram Error 65 AV0001 : Invalid Dependency : Weld.Interface.Core(Assembly) -- Weld.Interface(Namespace) Layers: Application Framework Core, Application Framework | Dependencies: Namespace Reference D:\Projects\Windows Projects\Weld\Weld\ModelingProject1\Weld.layerdiagram 0 0 ModelingProject1 Weld.Interface.Core: This assembly and namespace does not have a reference to Weld.Interface and only references .NET Framework classes Weld.Interface: This assembly and namespace does not have a reference to Weld.Interface There is no dependancy between these two layers in the dependency diagram. I am confused why I am getting this error. No dependency in the project or code, and no dependency is even setup in the layer diagram. Somehow the Validation logic in the layer diagram is seeing a non existant dependency and saying it is an error. Any ideas what either I might have missed or what is causing this problem?

  • Logging from symfony's model layer

    - by naag
I'm currently working on a project with symfony 1.4 and Doctrine 1.2. I'm looking for a proper way to do logging from the model layer. In some model classes I use the record hook postSave() to create a ZIP file using exec() (since PHP zip doesn't provide for storage method 'Stored'). To be sure that everythings works fine I check the return code and log an error if something goes wrong. My first naive approach was to do it like this: if ($returnCode != 0) { sfContext::getInstance()->getLogger()->debug(...); } As you know, this doesn't work so well because sfContext belongs to the controller layer and shouldn't be used from the model layer. My next try was to use the model's constructor to pass in an sfLogger instance, but this doesn't work due to Doctrine 1.2 reserving the constructor for internal use (Doctrine 1.2 Documentation). I'm looking forward for your suggestions!

  • Functionality in a Data Access Layer formed by a dbml

    - by Younes
I got a Data Access Layer that's being formed by one DBML in which i just include all object I need. Is it necessary to write more functionality in this dbml or can I just use the dbml as my DAL? I ask this because I am currently writing functionality to, for example, get all Articles from a Table in the Business Logic Layer. So I'm kind of lost now. What kind of examples can be given so that it's clear to me what to put in the Business Layer.

  • RegEx - Remove HTML hyperlinks based on the link text

    - by Rob
Hi, I have some text that has HTML hyper-links in it. I want to remove the hyperlinks, but only specific ones. e.g. I start with this: This is text <a href="link/to/somewhere">Link to Remove</a> and more text with another link <a href="/link/to/somewhere/else">Keep this link</a> I want to have: This is text and more text with another link <a href="/link/to/somewhere/else">Keep this link</a> I have this RegEx expression, <a\s[^>]*>.*?</a> ... but it matches ALL of the links. What do I need to add to that expression to match only the links with the link-text 'Remove' (for example) in it? thanks in advance.

  • Business and data layer in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Shetty
Hi, I am new to ASP.net MVC architecture. I have read in some articles that Model will contain business and data access logic. So does this mean that i have to implement the business and data access layrers in side model folder? And it is obviously not possible to add class libraries (business layer and Data access layer of n tier) in Model folder. SO please let me know how to design business and data layer if i dont want to include my LINQ queries in Controller. Thanks, Amith

  • Fusion Table Layer Caching issue

    - by user1854791
I have created a series of fusion table layers and apply filtering to one of the layers in response to checkbox click events. The base layer of the map contains a gradient applied over county boundaries. When the base layer is unchecked, the filtered layer loses it's styling. I have added unique timestamps to all queries to avoid caching, however I get the feeling that these image tiles are still be cached for this situation. Is there any way to force the google fusion tables api to invalidate a cached image? Test site here: http://map.inquestmarketing.com/new.html Unchecking the Other - Consumer Prospects checkbox reproduces the issue. This is a pure client app, all of the source is in the single page.
