• sIFR multiple calls don't work :(

  Hello ! I'm trying to use sIFR on my menu and on my headers... but only one call works... the others that I put after never appear :(... Can somebody help me ?   Hi, I am looking for ideas for how I can stop external scripts connecting with my site. I'm looking for the same kind of idea behind Google. As in if a certain amount of requests are made per a certain amount of time then block the IP address or something. I thought there maybe a htaccess solution if not, I will write a PHP one. • Multiple Foreign keys to a single table and single key pointing to more than one table

  I need some suggestions from the database design experts here. I have around six foreign keys into a single table (defect) which all point to primary key in user table. It is like: defect (.....,assigned_to,created_by,updated_by,closed_by...) If I want to get information about the defect I can make six joins. Do we have any better way to do it? Another one is I have a states table which can store one of the user-defined set of values. I have defect table and task table and I want both of these tables to share the common state table (New, In Progress etc.). So I created: task (.....,state_id,type_id,.....) defect(.....,state_id,type_id,...) state(state_id,state_name,...) importance(imp_id,imp_name,...) There are many such common attributes along with state like importance(normal, urgent etc), priority etc. And for all of them I want to use same table. I am keeping one flag in each of the tables to differentiate task and defect. What is the best solution in such a case? If somebody is using this application in health domain, they would like to assign different types, states, importances for their defect or tasks. Moreover when a user selects any project I want to display all the types,states etc under configuration parameters section.

  Say I got this sql schema. Table Job: id,title, type, is_enabled Table JobFileCopy: job_id,from_path,to_path Table JobFileDelete: job_id, file_path Table JobStartProcess: job_id, file_path, arguments, working_directory There are many other tables with varying number of columns and they all got foreign key job_id which is linked to id in table Job. My questions: Is this the right approach? I don't have requirement to delete anything at anytime. I will require to select and insert mostly. Secondly, what is the best approach to get the list of jobs with relevant details from all the different tables in a single database hit? e.g I would like to select top 20 jobs with details, their details can be in any table (depends on column type in table Job) which I don't know until runtime. Is this a compiler bug? I want it to leave my pointers the hell alone.

  Hi, Is it feasible to play a number of FLV files at the same time on one SWF? Basically I have a brief to create a video banner with a number of FLVs of people playing at the same time but starting at different points in the videos. My concerns are with loading times, memory consumption and the starting of each FLV at a different point and looping it. The FLVs will be stored on a server and pseudo-streamed. It allows you to have multiple screens of apps running, without having the same number of monitors. Does such a program exist for Vista? I'd like around four desktops (one for IM, one for programming, one for browsing/email and one for other apps), and at home I usually have one monitor if using my laptop outside of home, or two if I'm using it at home.

Multiple tabs are available at the same time, each representing a different open document. Click a different tab and its document is activated and brought to the front of the application. The scenario is as follows: I have One Windows Physical server at Primary site, I want to have Two different applications database on it, so shall I create two Instances on same server or shall have diffenrent server for another database. First Database is for management purpose while second would be used for Reporting purpose. There is a second database at the secondary site, which will be in Passive mode and I intend to connect them through MSCS. Now, can I have both Instances on Single server and both will work fine? The management database will be used more. Please reply soon. Can both Instances have dedicated reources allocated to them?

• Mutliple VMs for Tomcat cluster vs Multiple Tomcat instances on one physical box

  I'm working on a project that will be implemented into production using a cluster of Apache Tomcat instances and I'm looking for the best Hardware/OS solutions and VMs have come up as one option. I have run ESXi/ESX instances before for development and testing, but I'm curious for a hosting environment if having multiple VMs is actually worse than just configuring a server to host multiple instances of Tomcat. These are my guesses: Pros for VMWare Easier Maintenance/Backup for individual VMs (VMWare makes this easy) Can remote login to individual VMs without having to give host access (security?) Easier way to re-purpose machine for OS/Hardware changes Pros for running on one Physical Machine Overhead of only one OS (also no VMWare footprint) Update OS/security changes once One less administrative layer (No VM expertise required) I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas about what the benefits would be for either option.

• Unable to list owned images and running instances from Amazon Web Services using Zend Framework

  I am using Zend Framework's library to manage EC2 instances and AMI. However I can't list the AMI's I own and can't list existing EC2 instances. $ec2Instance = new Zend_Service_Amazon_Ec2_Instance($awsAccessKey, $awsSecretKey); $instances = $ec2Instance ->describe(); $ec2Instance -describe() should list all instances but it is returning no instances even though I have three of them running at this time. $ami = new Zend_Service_Amazon_Ec2_Image($awsAccessKey, $awsSecretKey); $images = $ami->describe(); $ami-describe() returns all the public images but none of them are the ones I created even though I have two AMIs. Does any one know what I am missing here?

• Ways to ensure unique instances of a class?

  I'm looking for different ways to ensure that each instance of a given class is a uniquely identifiable instance. For example, I have a Name class with the field name. Once I have a Name object with name initialised to John Smith I don't want to be able to instantiate a different Name object also with the name as John Smith, or if instantiation does take place I want a reference to the orginal object to be passed back rather than a new object. I'm aware that one way of doing this is to have a static factory that holds a Map of all the current Name objects and the factory checks that an object with John Smith as the name doesn't already exist before passing back a reference to a Name object. Another way I could think of off the top of my head is having a static Map in the Name class and when the constructor is called throwing an exception if the value passed in for name is already in use in another object, however I'm aware throwing exceptions in a constructor is generally a bad idea. Are there other ways of achieving this?
