• No GUI, No internet connection, please help 12.04

  I am new to Ubuntu and I tried to install ubuntu server 12.04 on my laptop. now my problem is - I am unable to connect to the internet (I have wifi ONLY connection). ubuntu didn't recognize my built-in wifi on my Toshiba Satellite L505. There is no GUI. I have Terminal only, I tried Sudo apt-get update but i am getting errer msg because of no connection. 1. I need to know if there is any possible way that i can download and install driver for my wifi. 2. what other option do i have to be able to update ubuntu. Thanks KB

• Why do we need REST service security if we have HTTPS

  I refer to this excellent article http://www.thebuzzmedia.com/designing-a-secure-rest-api-without-oauth-authentication/ which speaks of amazon like security for web service. However I was asked a question in the team of why do we need it if we already use HTTPS. I was unable to answer as it really seems to me they may be right although gut tells me otherwise. Also is there places when providing REST services where HTTPS may not work? Like 3rd party websites? If anyone has experience in securing Web Services over the public interwebs please shed some light with your experience. Thanks in advance. EDIT: To clarify I am not speaking of user authentication but more of client authentication. The user authentication can be assumed to be plain text over HTTPS+ REST. My worry is that this still allows anyone to use the web service without my client to access it since everything is plai text although over HTTPS the client end point can still use my web service without the client application.

• Need to know best way to utilize LVM to backup Ubuntu

  So I've had issues with Windows which forced me to install and learn Ubuntu as I'm fed up with MSFT. So now I need to know the most efficient/best way to image Ubuntu so that if I messed something up in one point in time I could always come back to the healthy point in time. During the install I saw an option for LVM and read what it is though I don't know how to utilize it to prevent a situation where I have to reinstall everything. Help? Note: I found on the right hand side of this Ask A Question area an area titled Similar Questions giving me Setting up LVM Snapshot as a backup/restore point in ubuntu This is pretty in depth and a bit complex, though completely doable, is it possible to just use LVM out of the box after a complete HDD wipe and normal Ubuntu install? :Fingers crossed and rabbits foot in hand:

  first sorry for contact me here. Recuro to you after reading all the material I found about it and so it does not get set. My question is: I can configure load balancing in any way out? I have a hub with 3 USB 3G modems, I got the 3 simultaneously connect with an upload speed of about 500kb in each approx. and a dynamic ip each. I do a unicast streaming with vlc rtp with a bandwidth of 1.5mb. Bone the sum of the three modems. I was searching on ifenslave, iproute. Then I found a draft vlc MultiCat. I understood that this could end, but configure it only moves a card. If I can help extend the information willingly. From now eternally grateful.

  What do you need to know to at the very least get your foot in the door? We're assuming for someone who doesn't have a college degree (yet) but will eventually get one. My guess is html, css, javascript, and php, and photoshop and dreamweaver, and sql. And being familiar with using a web host to have sites live, like knowing how to use cpanel.   I just finished the data structures and algorithms course in school , I took it during the summer so 6wks course vs a 16 wk course during the regular semester. So not only was the course hard but it was really really really fast. My question is what do I need to know about data structures in the real world? I understand what they do and how they work, for the most part, but I had a real tough time coding them , I wouldn't be able to write the code for a binary tree class or a balanced tree class from scratch .... Is that bad? should I retake it , or is knowledge of how they work sufficient, without being able to write the classes from scratch?

This field includes the name of the column in SALES_DATA in which the relevant forecast is stored. Here are the possible statuses: -1, -2 : The engine failed in the initialization phase.  Which means, before the engine manager created the engines.  0 : The engine stopped in the optimization phase.  Which means, after the engines were created.  1: The engine finished the run successfully.  2: Forecast was never calculated for the relevant column that is mentioned in FORE_COLUMN_NAME.

• Unity launcher full - Need more icons

  I have already reduced the Unity launcher icons to 32 but still the space is exhausted already with my most-used programs. Basically I have to scroll often in the unity launcher bar with is annoying. So far (Ubuntu 10.04) I had those icons as mini ones in the top panel (smaller icons and wider space) where they could fit all. I was thinking already of sub-launchers or something the like but could not find something like the drawer was in Gnome 2. I am using Ubuntu at home and in the office. I am a consultant and need a lot of stuff on a regular basis. To put links at the desktop does not make sense because of the many windows that I usually have open there is hardly ever a piece of the desktop looking through. How do you - power users get keep most-used programs at reach (and I mean <= 2 clicks away)?

  i'm new in ubuntu and i'm having some trouble. 1) I downloaded Eclipse installer from official page but I don't know how to install it without the software center or downloading it again. 2) I also downloaded apt Wally (to change wallpaper periodly), but now it doesn't appear in searches, only when I use the console.   Tomorrow morning I'm interviewing for a web development internship position and I'm seeking general advice pertaining to the questions that interviewers might ask, some questions I should ask them during the interview, and any general tips/suggestions that might help. They're looking for someone with knowledge mainly in HTML/CSS, Joomla, MySQL and PHP, all of which I have excluding Joomla (which I'm installing/doing as much research on as possible at the moment) and I was able to provide them a link to a site I'd been paid to build for a small business which they mentioned they were impressed with. I'd like to prepare myself for the interview as much as I possibly can but I'm wondering how much time I should spend rehashing elements of the languages they're looking for, or if it'd be a better use of my time to research their company and figure out how I'd respond to general questions. I feel that perhaps because I showed them a project I've completed that they'll know that I can grasp the technical side of what they're going for... but this is my first internship interview in this field so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. • need help connecting to bitbucket repository with sourceTree on windows 8

  I'm having trouble adding and cloning my repo on bitbucket to the sourceTree app, we're only starting with this now and we're a small company, so there's not much knowledge around this. now I've gone through The documentation on sourceTree for help, but I've noticed when I select my repo on bitbucket, it uses the repo url I select and appends a .git at the end. Then a notice message says This is not a valid source path / URL, but when I click Details... I get a dialogBox with nothing in it and an ok button. and when I'm done entering the details the 'Clone' button remains disabled. Is this Windows 8 or am I actually doing something wrong? Now I usually use ubuntu, but we just got these new ASUS ultrabooks at work and it's a pain to install any linux Distro on here. So I'm stuck with windows 8

• Can someone help me remove/fix ubuntu?

  I'm very new to ubuntu for starters. Whenever I turn my computer on, it opens to the GNU Grub terminal. It says it supports minimal Bash-Like line editing (I have no idea what this means). To work-around this, I used "exit -ubuntu", this then takes me to a separate page which I selected the Windows Boot Manager and click on the Windows 8.1 icon which makes my Windows 8 load normally. If I click on the other icon, being the ubuntu one, I get put back at the GNU Grub terminal and thats it. If someone could help me either remove ubuntu or repair it so that I can load it again, I would appreciate it. I had installed the most recent ubuntu version. Any other required information to assist I can provide. Thank you.

• error: you need to load kernel first

  I made a clean install on my Sony Vaio laptop, of Ubuntu 11.10 and when the installation was ready, it prompted to remove the usb I was installing the distro from, and press enter to reboot. After this reboot the first thing I got was the following error: error: couldn't read file error: you need to load the kernel first Press any key to continue.. After that it throws me back to the Grub select screen: Ubuntu, with linux 3.0.0-14-generic-pae recovery mode previous linux versions (none since I made a clean install) memory test If i choose the first option it shows only a black screen and never loads anything. If i reboot the same thing happens. Could I repair this using boot-repair? Is there any other way? • Please Help to bring back power to my machine

  I Have a samsung N150plus netbook That I have been using for a while now. I left it on and plugged to a wall outlet and went to bed. I dual boot ubuntu and win7. I tried to update the win7 to sp1 and I dozed off. I woke up and saw the machine has been booted to ubuntu and logged in as guest, which translate to mean one of my room mates have tried to use the machine and they all have denied using my machine. I tried to reboot to windows and then it appears to have no cpu, hard disk and cpu fan activity. only one led seems to come on when i plug it in. its only the led that indicate the machine is powered on powers steadily. I really cant afford to buy a new machine now and I need the machine to complete my last project in school for my last year. Help Please

• Need to produce an animated texture of Water where each image tiles in all directions

  I need to produce a 2D 'animated' texture of "water" for a game in which each image tiles in 'all' directions, much like those produced by the Caustics Generator, but with the power and flexibility of something the likes of Blender. The final result from Caustics Generator is 32 images that are actually animated such that when the full 32 images are played in a loop they will seamlessly loop forever. They will not only loop in time, but each image also tile in all directions. This is nice, but it comes in only one flavor so to speak. I'd like to accomplish the same thing with a Blender type tool, and I have actually gotten to the point where I generate the X number of images, but they do not tile in 'all' directions, nor are they slightly animated. I've tried Blender texture animations using offsets but with only limited success. Does anyone know of how to (or of a tool) which will animate textures such that they tile in all (4) directions?
