  • apt-get fails to upgrade, install, remove etc

    I upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04, had no issues that I noticed. Recently tried to install something via software center, but it was throwing errors. Changed to trying to sudo apt-get install instead but again no luck. I've genuinely tried as much as I know to fix this, but I can't so I figured I'd ask here. I've done sudo apt-get update successfully but sudo apt-get upgrade failed with... You might want to run ‘apt-get -f install’ to correct these. I also tried to download the .deb and use dpkg -i, but that failed and did not fully understand the method to be honest.     Hi - I'm responsible for a W2003 server. I'm trying to switch on terminal services. When I do so I get a message that includes the text : "If you continue with this installation, programs that are already installed on your server will no longer work and will have to be reinstalled" Surely that doesn't mean what it appears to mean ? I just want one extra person to be able to access the machine in the same way that currently two administrators do (via "Remote Administration") only I want all three to be able to do simultaneously. When I bought the extra TS license I thought I was just buying the right to have one extra user. Is doing this really going to trash everything on the machine ?

  • Cannot print certain colours on Ubuntu with HP Laser Printer

    We have a load of machines running Ubuntu in our office, they are either on 8.04 or 9.10. We have a server which connects a HP JetDirect that connects to a HP 3550 Colour Laser printer using CUPS. The problem we are having is we cannot print red, magenta or yellow at 100%, I've got a picture of the Ubuntu test page to demonstrate my problem: This is obviously a pretty big problem as we are constantly receiving documents with these colours and cannot successfully print them off, we cannot just switch the grayscale, our business depends on being able to print colour (seems trivial but we handle lots of artwork). We're using the recommended driver HP Color LaserJet 3550 footmatic/pxljr (recommended), there is another driver in the list labelled HP Color LaserJet 3550 footmatic/hpijs. These are production printers so need to make sure any setting change won't kick is in the nuts. It would appear HPIJS is for HP Inkjets, makes sense I guess. The problem doesn't occur in Windows. RESOLVED I've managed to solve the problem, I did indeed use the HPIJS driver (apparently for inkjets) but it seems to have worked, we're going to roll with it for now to see how we get on with it.

  • IIS6 won't respond to a request for a JS file after accessing through subdomain

    I have a site running of www.mysite.com for example. There is a JS file I'm accessing: www.mysite.com/packages.js The first and subsequent times that I acccess that packages.js file causes no problems........until I access a sub-site like this: sub-site.mysite.com This naturally makes a request for that same packages.js....but the site hangs as it just keeps waiting and waiting for that JS file. Going back to the main site, the problem perists there. If I then rename packages.js to say packages2.js it then works in the same way. I can access the file on the main site but after I try and access it through a sub-site IIS then fails to respond to a request for that file. I realise this explanation is a little vague, but has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before? Thanks very much, James.

If you currently have FAT32, reformat to that again. That is: Reformat without changing to a different file-system. Leave the current type.) or... B. Do absolutely nothing. Don't format. Don't delete any of my files. Abort the formatting process entirely.

  • Bridging a Windows 7 and Ubuntu dual boot inside an OS

    I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed on my local PC. They're both installed on separate partitions on the same machine, and when the computer boots up the user is given the option to choose which one they want to boot use as the OS. This all works fine, but I want to use Windows 7 instead of Ubuntu, I am required to restart the computer and boot up the other OS. Is is possible to use an "inline" tool that will allow to change between both OSs as if they were windows in Windows 7? Which tool would that be? Does anyone know of anything else than Parallels? Also are there any free tools that would do this?. Many Thanks.

  • Apache stops responding to http requests -- https continues to work

    Okay. Very strange problem that I'm having here. I just recently updated to Apache 2.4.2 from 2.2.17, mostly to try to get name-based SSL VirtualHosts working (although they should have been working on 2.2.17). Server is Win2008 R2 (so x64 by definition) running with PHP 5.4.3 and MySQL 5.1.40 (outdated, I know). When I launch the server, it initially works fine. Responds to all requests, VirtualHosts all in order. However, after an uncertain amount of time (appears to only take a few minutes for the most part, but sometimes takes hours), it stops responding to regular HTTP requests (on any VirtualHost). HTTPS continues to work. No errors in the log, and nothing in the access logs when I attempt to connect. I'm having a hard time finding the source of this error given its intermittent nature. When removing all SSL-based VirtualHosts, it seemingly increased stability (still responding to HTTP requests twelve hours later). This could be mere coincidence, though.     I have a VM running Ubuntu Server 9.10 running a basic web server setup. Whenever I run an apt function it will pause for around 1 minute at 'Waiting for headers...'. It will eventually clear through and continue as normal but it is a bit of an annoyance. Everything else on the server seems to run fine. Any ideas?

  • Desktop directory disappears in gnome-terminal, then appears again, but all files in it are deleted

    I am able to see my Desktop and with all its various links and files. But in the terminal when I try to access the Desktop directory: cd ~/Desktop I get: bash: cd: /home/administrator/Desktop: No such file or directory Then I find I am unable to access any of the files on the Desktop when I click on them although the file icons are there. Then the icons disappear after my clicking on them. Then I am able to access the Desktop directory in the terminal but the directory is empty i.e. all the files/folders have been deleted. What's going on? How can I fix this?
