    - by Dave Campbell
In this Issue: Max Paulousky, Chris Rouw, David Anson, Jesse Liberty, Shawn Wildermuth, Simon Guindon, and Dhananjay Kumar. Above the Fold: Silverlight: "Faster Databinding in WPF and Silverlight using OptimizedObservableCollection" Simon Guindon WP7: "Phoney Tools Updated (WP7 Open Source Library)" Shawn Wildermuth From SilverlightCream.com: Problems With Sharing Windows Phone 7 Applications Within A Large Group Of Beta Testers Max Paulousky has a post up discussing the issues surrounding beta testing a WP7 app with a large group of testers... and how to pull it all off. WP7 Insights #1: Consuming REST APIs within a WP7 app Chris Rouw is beginning a WP7 series based on his recent experience of getting a client's app into the marketplace. This first in his series is on consuming REST APIs ... lots of good code and explanations. • SQL Server -> 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS' Collation -> Varchar Column -> Languages Supported

    - by Ajay Singh
All, We are using SQL Server 2008 with Collation Setting as 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS'. We are using Varchar column to store textual data. We know that we cannot store Double Byte data in Varchar column and hence cannot support languages like Japanese and Chinese without converting it to NVarchar. However, will it be safe to say that all Single Byte Characters can be stored in Varchar column without any problem? If yes then from where can I get the list of languages which needs Single Byte for storage and the list of languages which needs double byte? Any assistance in this regard is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Doubt in action script for Flex: getting unique elements from an ArrayCollection

    - by Nirmal Singh Raja Reegan
Hi, I have an ArrayCollection as mentioned below. private var initDG:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([ {fact: "Order #2314", appName: "AA"}, {fact: "Order #2315", appName: "BB"} {fact: "Order #2316", appName: "BB"} ... {fact: "Order #2320", appName: "CC"} {fact: "Order #2321", appName: "CC"} ]); I want to populate a ComboBox with UNIQUE VALUES of "appName" field from the ArrayCollection initDG. <mx:ComboBox id="appCombo" dataProvider="{initDG}" labelField="appName"/> One method I could think is to loop through the Array objects and for each object check and push unique appName entries into another Array. Is there any better solution available?

  • Is there any Flex dataGrid implementation which has features similar to XtraGrid?

    - by Nirmal Singh Raja Reegan
I am looking for a Flex datagrid component that has features like grouping, sorting, master/detail display, etc. I am having an application in C# that uses XtraGrid suite to achieve the required datagrid features. I am planning to migrate this application to Flex. If there is no flex component readily available with XtraGrid features, then I have to create one on my own. Please let me know if you know any? Thanks, Nirmal

  • Websockify to wrap a forking server

    - by Gurjeet Singh
I came across Websockify [1] and the accompanying Websock client-side javascript library. AIUI from the Wrap a Programsection in README, Websockify can help you launch a TCP server and rebind its port so that incoming Websockets-based communication is parsed and forwarded to the server on the proper (rebinded) port. My question is, can this mechanism be used to wrap a server that forks its children which in turn communicate with the client on a different port. Specifically, I am interested in websockifying a Postgres server, which typically listens on port 5432 and for a new incoming connection it forks a child which serves all future request from that client. (If it helps, Oracle RDBMS and many other servers, RDBMS or not, also use similar method.) [1] https://github.com/kanaka/websockify

  • Timer or Thread?

    - by Pradeep Singh
I have a method(say method1) that writes to database(sqlserver)and another method(say method2) that tries to access the same database after some time and updates the data row that was created by method1. The problem arises when method1 fails to access db due to the LAN being disconnected (this is not an exception this is a scenario that will definitely arise in my software, getting into details will make the question too complex) if method1 fails to access db method2 cannot work. What I want to do is to make method1 store values to local db instead of server if the LAN is disconnected and as soon as it enters value in local db the application should start trying to access the server after ever 10-15 seconds. What should I use timer or create a new thread?

  • Communicating with the PC via USB connection in Android

    - by Danny Singh
I'm fairly new to android programming and need some information for a 4th year forensics course project. Basically I am trying to create a suite of tools for live analysis of an android phone. I know how to get the information I need on the phone, but I was wondering if there was a way to communicate that information back to the PC? I want to be able to run a program from a PC, which, when the phone is docked, will allow the user to access information about the phone (ie currently running services/processes, bluetooth/wifi connections, etc). I have a bunch of methods that will run on the phone and get all the information, but I want to be able to call those methods from the PC, execute on the phone, then have the information sent back to the PC to display to the user instead of just displaying it on the phone. This is to leave as small a footprint on the phone as possible. Thanks a lot.
