• PLPGSQL : How to return a record from function executed by INSERT/UPDATE rule?

- by seas
Do the following scheme for my database: create sequence data_sequence; create table data_table { id integer primary key; field varchar(100); }; create view data_view as select id, field from data_table; create function data_insert(_new data_view) returns data_view as $$declare _id integer; _result data_view%rowtype; begin _id := nextval('data_sequence'); insert into data_table(id, field) values(_id, _new.field); select * into _result from data_view where id = _id; return _result; end; $$ language plpgsql; create rule insert as on insert to data_view do instead select data_insert(new); Then type in psql: insert into data_view(field) values('abc'); Would like to see something like: id | field ----+--------- 1 | abc Instead see: data_insert ------------- (1, "abc") Is it possible to fix this somehow? Thanks for any ideas. Ultimate idea is to use this in other functions, so that I could obtain id of just inserted record without selecting for it from scratch. Something like: insert into data_view(field) values('abc') returning id into my_variable would be nice but doesn't work with error: ERROR: cannot perform INSERT RETURNING on relation "data_view" HINT: You need an unconditional ON INSERT DO INSTEAD rule with a RETURNING clause. I don't really understand that HINT. I use PostgreSQL 8.4.

• How to compare two variables from a java class in jess and execute a rule?

- by user3417084
I'm beginner in Jess. I'm trying to compare two variables from a Java class in Jess and trying to execute a rule. I have imported cTNumber and measuredCurrent (both are integer)form a java class called CurrentSignal. Similarly imported vTNumberand measuredVoltage form a java class DERSignal. Now I want to make a rule such that if cTNumber is equal to vTNumber then multiply measuredCurrent and measuredVoltage (Both are double) for calculating power. I'm trying in this way.... (import signals.*) (deftemplate CurrentSignal (declare (from-class CurrentSignal))) (deftemplate DERSignal (declare (from-class DERSignal))) (defglobal ?*CTnumber* = 0) (defglobal ?*VTnumber* = 0) (defglobal ?*VTnumberDER* = 0) (defglobal ?*measuredCurrent* = 0) (defglobal ?*measuredVoltage* = 0) (defglobal ?*measuredVoltageDER* = 0) (defrule Get-CT-Number (CurrentSignal (cTNumber ?m)) (CurrentSignal (measuredCurrent ?c)) => (bind ?*measuredCurrent* ?c) (printout t "Measured Current : " ?*measuredCurrent*" Amps"crlf) (bind ?*CTnumber* ?m) (printout t ?*CTnumber* crlf) ) (defrule Get-DER-Number (DERSignal (vTNumber ?o)) (DERSignal (measuredVoltage ?V)) => (bind ?*measuredVoltageDER* ?V) (printout t "Measured Voltage : " ?*measuredVoltageDER* " V" crlf) (bind ?*VTnumberDER* ?o) (printout t ?*VTnumberDER* crlf) ) (defrule Power-Calculation-DER-signal "Power calculation of DER Bay" (test (= ?*CTnumber* ?*VTnumberDER* )) => (printout t "Total Generation : " (* ?*measuredCurrent* ?*measuredVoltageDER*) crlf) ) But the Total Generation is showing 0. But I tried calculating in Java and it's showing a number. Can anyone please help me to solve this problem. Thank you.

• How can I execute an ANTLR parser action for each item in a rule that can match more than one item?

- by Chris Farmer
I am trying to write an ANTLR parser rule that matches a list of things, and I want to write a parser action that can deal with each item in the list independently. Some example input for these rules is: $(A1 A2 A3) I'd like this to result in an evaluator that contains a list of three MyIdentEvaluator objects -- one for each of A1, A2, and A3. Here's a snippet of my grammar: my_list returns [IEvaluator e] : { $e = new MyListEvaluator(); } '$' LPAREN op=my_ident+ { /* want to do something here for each 'my_ident'. */ /* the following seems to see only the 'A3' my_ident */ $e.Add($op.e); } RPAREN ; my_ident returns [IEvaluator e] : IDENT { $e = new MyIdentEvaluator($IDENT.text); } ; I think my_ident is defined correctly, because I can see the three MyIdentEvaluators getting created as expected for my input string, but only the last my_ident ever gets added to the list (A3 in my example input). How can I best treat each of these elements independently, either through a grammar change or a parser action change? It also occurred to me that my vocabulary for these concepts is not what it should be, so if it looks like I'm misusing a term, I probably am. EDIT in response to Wayne's comment: I tried to use op+=my_ident+. In that case, the $op in my action becomes an IList (in C#) that contains Antlr.Runtime.Tree.CommonTree instances. It does give me one entry per matched token in $op, so I see my three matches, but I don't have the MyIdentEvaluator instances that I really want. I was hoping I could then find a rule attribute in the ANTLR docs that might help with this, but nothing seemed to help me get rid of this IList. Result... Based on chollida's answer, I ended up with this which works well: my_list returns [IEvaluator e] : { $e = new MyListEvaluator(); } '$' LPAREN (op=my_ident { $e.Add($op.e); } )+ RPAREN ; The Add method gets called for each match of my_ident.

• Why isn't this rewrite rule (nginx) applied? (trying to setup Wordpress multisite)

- by Brian Park
Hi, I'm trying to setup Wordpress multisite (subfolder structure) with nginx, but having a problem with this rewrite rule. Below is the Apache's .htaccess, which I have to translate into nginx configuration. RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /blogs/ RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] # uploaded files RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L] # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^ - [L] RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $2 [L] RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$ $2 [L] RewriteRule . index.php [L] Below is what I came up with: server { listen 80; server_name example.com; server_name_in_redirect off; expires 1d; access_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/access.log; error_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/error.log; root /srv/www/example.com/public; index index.html; try_files $uri $uri/ /index.html; # rewriting uploaded files rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?files/(.+) /blogs/wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 last; # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?wp-admin$ /blogs/$1wp-admin/ permanent; if (!-e $request_filename) { rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) /blogs/$2 last; rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?(.*\.php)$ /blogs/$2 last; } location /blogs/ { index index.php; #try_files $uri $uri/ /blogs/index.php?q=$uri&$args; } location ~ \.php$ { include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params; fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /srv/www/example.com/public$fastcgi_script_name; } # static assets location ~* ^.+\.(manifest)$ { access_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/static.log; } location ~* ^.+\.(ico|ogg|ogv|svg|svgz|eot|otf|woff|mp4|ttf|css|rss|atom|js|jpg|jpeg|gif|png|ico|zip|tgz|gz|rar|bz2|doc|xls|exe|ppt|tar|mid|midi|wav|bmp|rtf)$ { # only set expires max IFF the file is a static file and exists if (-f $request_filename) { expires max; access_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/static.log; } } } In the above code, I believe rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?(.*\.php)$ /blogs/$2 last; has no effect because when I look at the access_log file, I see the following line: 2010/09/15 01:14:55 [error] 10166#0: *8 "/srv/www/example.com/public/blogs/test/index.php" is not found (2: No such file or directory), request: "GET /blogs/test/ HTTP/1.1" (Here, 'test' is the second blog created using multisite feature) What I'm expecting is that /blogs/test/index.php gets rewritten to /blogs/index.php, but it doesn't seem to do that... Am I overlooking something obvious? Thanks!

• Autoscaling in a modern world…. Part 2

- by Steve Loethen
When we last left off, we had a web application spinning away in the cloud, and a local console application watching it and reacting to changes in demand. Reactions that were specified by a set of rules. Let’s talk about those rules. Constraints. The first set of rules this application answered to were the constraints. Here is what they looked like: <constraintRules> <rule name="default" enabled="true" rank="1" description="The default constraint rule"> <actions> <range min="1" max="4" target="AutoscalingApplicationRole"/> </actions> </rule> </constraintRules> Pretty basic. We have one role, the “AutoscalingApplicationRole”, and we have decided to have it live within a range of 1 to 4. This rule does not adjust, but instead, set’s limits on what other rules can do. It has a rank, so you can have you can specify other sets of constraints, perhaps based on time or date, to allow for deviations from this set. But for now, let’s keep it simple. In the real world, you would probably use the minimum to set a lower end SLA. A common value might be a 2, to prevent the reactive rules from ever taking you down to 1 role. The maximum is often used to keep a rule from driving the cost up, setting an upper limit to prevent you waking up one morning and find a bill for hundreds of instances you didn’t expect. So, here we have the range we want our application to live inside. This is good for our investigation and testing. Next, let’s take a look at the reactive rules. These rules are what you use to react (hence reactive rules) to changing demands on your application. The HOL has two simple rules. One that looks at a queue depth, and one that looks at a performance counter that reports cpu utilization. the XML in the rules file looks like this: <reactiveRules> <rule name="ScaleUp" rank="10" description="Scale Up the web role" enabled="true"> <when> <any> <greaterOrEqual operand="Length_05_holqueue" than="10"/> <greaterOrEqual operand="CPU_05_holwebrole" than="65"/> </any> </when> <actions> <scale target="AutoscalingApplicationRole" by="1"/> </actions> </rule> <rule name="ScaleDown" rank="10" description="Scale down the web role" enabled="true"> <when> <all> <less operand="Length_05_holqueue" than="5"/> <less operand="CPU_05_holwebrole" than="40"/> </all> </when> <actions> <scale target="AutoscalingApplicationRole" by="-1"/> </actions> </rule> </reactiveRules> <operands> <performanceCounter alias="CPU_05_holwebrole" performanceCounterName="\Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time" source="AutoscalingApplicationRole" timespan="00:05:00" aggregate="Average" /> <queueLength alias="Length_05_holqueue" queue="hol-queue" timespan="00:05:00" aggregate="Average"/> </operands> These rules are currently contained in a file called rules.xml, that is in the root of the console application. The console app, starts up, grabs the rules and starts watching the 2 operands. When it detects a rule has been satisfied, it performs the desired action. (here, scale up or down my 1). But I want to host the autoscaler in the cloud. For my first trick, I will move the rules (and another file called services.xml) to azure blob storage. Look for part 3.

• JQuery validate: How to add a rule for regular expression validation?

- by PeterTheNiceGuy
I am new to JQuery and am using the JQuery validation plugin. Great stuff! I want to migrate my existing ASP.NET solution to use JQuery instead of the ASP.NET validators. I am missing a replacement for the regular expression validator. I want to be able to do something like this: $("Textbox").rules("add", { regularExpression: "^[a-zA-Z'.\s]{1,40}$" }) Could anyone give me a hint how to add a custom rule to achieve this?

• What is the most elegant way to implement a business rule relating to a child collection in LINQ?

- by AaronSieb
I have two tables in my database: Wiki WikiId ... WikiUser WikiUserId (PK) WikiId UserId IsOwner ... These tables have a one (Wiki) to Many (WikiUser) relationship. How would I implement the following business rule in my LINQ entity classes: "A Wiki must have exactly one owner?" I've tried updating the tables as follows: Wiki WikiId (PK) OwnerId (FK to WikiUser) ... WikiUser WikiUserId (PK) WikiId UserId ... This enforces the constraint, but if I remove the owner's WikiUser record from the Wiki's WikiUser collection, I recieve an ugly SqlException. This seems like it would be difficult to catch and handle in the UI. Is there a way to perform this check before the SqlException is generated? A better way to structure my database? A way to catch and translate the SqlException to something more useful? Edit: I would prefer to keep the validation rules within the LINQ entity classes if possible. Edit 2: Some more details about my specific situation. In my application, the user should be able to remove users from the Wiki. They should be able to remove any user, except the user who is currently flagged as the "owner" of the Wiki (a Wiki must have exactly one owner at all times). In my control logic, I'd like to use something like this: wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); And have any broken rules transferred to the UI layer. What I DON'T want to have to do is this: if(wikiUser.WikiUserId != wiki.OwnerId) { wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); } else { //Handle errors. } I also don't particularly want to move the code to my repository (because there is nothing to indicate not to use the native Remove functions), so I also DON'T want code like this: mRepository.RemoveWikiUser(wiki, wikiUser) mRepository.Save(); This WOULD be acceptable: try { wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); } catch(ValidationException ve) { //Display ve.Message } But this catches too many errors: try { wiki.WikiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); mRepository.Save(); } catch(SqlException se) { //Display se.Message } I would also PREFER NOT to explicitly call a business rule check (although it may become necessary): wiki.WIkiUsers.Remove(wikiUser); if(wiki.CheckRules()) { mRepository.Save(); } else { //Display broken rules }

• When does the DENY delete rule in Core Data actually deny deletion of an object?

- by dontWatchMyProfile
An Employee has an inverse relationship to it's Department and vice versa. The Employee entity has an Relationship called department, and it has a DENY delete rule. Employee shall be deleted. Now: Does DENY actually deny deletion of employee, because department is still referencing a Department? Or does it mean that a Department can't be deleted because an Employee is referencing it?

• How to enforce a 5-minute per post rule in a session object in Java?

- by John
I'm trying to figure out how to enforce a 5 minute per post/action rule. I'm developing a web application with Wicket in Java and I've got a session class which I was planning on using to keep track of these timers on a per-user basis. I wasn't planning on storing the timestamp in a database. public boolean isAllowedToPost() { if(null OR has 5 minutes passed since last post) { // set the new timestamp return true; } else { return false; } }

• How do I add a custom mod_rewrite rule to a Drupal site on module install?

- by DKinzer
I have a Drupal-6 module that needs the following mod-rewrite rule added to the .htaccess file of the site's root directory in order to work. RewriteRule ^blog/([0-9]{4}/[0-9]{2}/[0-9]{2}/.*)$ wordpress/$1 How can I add this line pro-grammatically when the module is first installed? Can I use custom_url_rewrite_inbound(&$result, $path, $path_language) to do this? If so, could you please show me an example? Thanks, D

• mod_rewrite [L] flag not working as expected?

- by bobobobo
I thought the [L] flag indicated that "this rule should be the last rule processed for this http request.." However when I have 2 rules like: RewriteRule ^test$ php/test.php [L] RewriteRule (.*) error.php What always happens is requests to http://localhost/test go to error.php, not to test.php as I expected, since I put the [L] there. If you comment out the second rule there, then requests to http://localhost/test go to test.php as expected. What I'm really trying to do is catch 404 errors with mod_rewrite. Its possible what I'm trying to do is just plain wrong. But I still want to know why the catch-all rule is active since I did put an [L] after the ^test rule. I see a large listing in here where the server admin lists a bunch of paths that begin with the recognized directories, but I wanted to avoid doing this by simply using a nice catch-all rule.

• Manage SQL Server Connectivity through Windows Azure Virtual Machines Remote PowerShell

- by SQLOS Team
Manage SQL Server Connectivity through Windows Azure Virtual Machines Remote PowerShell Blog This blog post comes from Khalid Mouss, Senior Program Manager in Microsoft SQL Server. Overview The goal of this blog is to demonstrate how we can automate through PowerShell connecting multiple SQL Server deployments in Windows Azure Virtual Machines. We would configure TCP port that we would open (and close) though Windows firewall from a remote PowerShell session to the Virtual Machine (VM). This will demonstrate how to take the advantage of the remote PowerShell support in Windows Azure Virtual Machines to automate the steps required to connect SQL Server in the same cloud service and in different cloud services. Scenario 1: VMs connected through the same Cloud Service 2 Virtual machines configured in the same cloud service. Both VMs running different SQL Server instances on them. Both VMs configured with remote PowerShell turned on to be able to run PS and other commands directly into them remotely in order to re-configure them to allow incoming SQL connections from a remote VM or on premise machine(s). Note: RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) is kept configured in both VMs by default to be able to remote connect to them and check the connections to SQL instances for demo purposes only; but not actually required. Step 1 – Provision VMs and Configure Ports Provision VM1; named DemoVM1 as follows (see examples screenshots below if using the portal): Provision VM2 (DemoVM2) with PowerShell Remoting enabled and connected to DemoVM1 above (see examples screenshots below if using the portal): After provisioning of the 2 VMs above, here is the default port configurations for example: Step2 – Verify / Confirm the TCP port used by the database Engine By the default, the port will be configured to be 1433 – this can be changed to a different port number if desired. 1. RDP to each of the VMs created below – this will also ensure the VMs complete SysPrep(ing) and complete configuration 2. Go to SQL Server Configuration Manager -> SQL Server Network Configuration -> Protocols for <SQL instance> -> TCP/IP - > IP Addresses 3. Confirm the port number used by SQL Server Engine; in this case 1433 4. Update from Windows Authentication to Mixed mode 5. Restart SQL Server service for the change to take effect 6. Repeat steps 3., 4., and 5. For the second VM: DemoVM2 Step 3 – Remote Powershell to DemoVM1 Enter-PSSession -ComputerName condemo.cloudapp.net -Port 61503 -Credential <username> -UseSSL -SessionOption (New-PSSessionOption -SkipCACheck -SkipCNCheck) Your will then be prompted to enter the password. Step 4 – Open 1433 port in the Windows firewall netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="DemoVM1Port" dir=in localport=1433 protocol=TCP action=allow Output: netsh advfirewall firewall show rule name=DemoVM1Port Rule Name: DemoVM1Port ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Enabled: Yes Direction: In Profiles: Domain,Private,Public Grouping: LocalIP: Any RemoteIP: Any Protocol: TCP LocalPort: 1433 RemotePort: Any Edge traversal: No Action: Allow Ok. Step 5 – Now connect from DemoVM2 to DB instance in DemoVM1 Step 6 – Close port 1433 in the Windows firewall netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name=DemoVM1Port Output: Deleted 1 rule(s). Ok. netsh advfirewall firewall show rule name=DemoVM1Port No rules match the specified criteria. Step 7 – Try to connect from DemoVM2 to DB Instance in DemoVM1 Because port 1433 has been closed (in step 6) in the Windows Firewall in VM1 machine, we can longer connect from VM3 remotely to VM1. Scenario 2: VMs provisioned in different Cloud Services 2 Virtual machines configured in different cloud services. Both VMs running different SQL Server instances on them. Both VMs configured with remote PowerShell turned on to be able to run PS and other commands directly into them remotely in order to re-configure them to allow incoming SQL connections from a remote VM or on on-premise machine(s). Note: RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) is kept configured in both VMs by default to be able to remote connect to them and check the connections to SQL instances for demo purposes only; but not actually needed. Step 1 – Provision new VM3 Provision VM3; named DemoVM3 as follows (see examples screenshots below if using the portal): After provisioning is complete, here is the default port configurations: Step 2 – Add public port to VM1 connect to from VM3’s DB instance Since VM3 and VM1 are not connected in the same cloud service, we will need to specify the full DNS address while connecting between the machines which includes the public port. We shall add a public port 57000 in this case that is linked to private port 1433 which will be used later to connect to the DB instance. Step 3 – Remote Powershell to DemoVM1 Enter-PSSession -ComputerName condemo.cloudapp.net -Port 61503 -Credential <UserName> -UseSSL -SessionOption (New-PSSessionOption -SkipCACheck -SkipCNCheck) You will then be prompted to enter the password. Step 4 – Open 1433 port in the Windows firewall netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="DemoVM1Port" dir=in localport=1433 protocol=TCP action=allow Output: Ok. netsh advfirewall firewall show rule name=DemoVM1Port Rule Name: DemoVM1Port ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Enabled: Yes Direction: In Profiles: Domain,Private,Public Grouping: LocalIP: Any RemoteIP: Any Protocol: TCP LocalPort: 1433 RemotePort: Any Edge traversal: No Action: Allow Ok. Step 5 – Now connect from DemoVM3 to DB instance in DemoVM1 RDP into VM3, launch SSM and Connect to VM1’s DB instance as follows. You must specify the full server name using the DNS address and public port number configured above. Step 6 – Close port 1433 in the Windows firewall netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name=DemoVM1Port Output: Deleted 1 rule(s). Ok. netsh advfirewall firewall show rule name=DemoVM1Port No rules match the specified criteria. Step 7 – Try to connect from DemoVM2 to DB Instance in DemoVM1 Because port 1433 has been closed (in step 6) in the Windows Firewall in VM1 machine, we can no longer connect from VM3 remotely to VM1. Conclusion Through the new support for remote PowerShell in Windows Azure Virtual Machines, one can script and automate many Virtual Machine and SQL management tasks. In this blog, we have demonstrated, how to start a remote PowerShell session, re-configure Virtual Machine firewall to allow (or disallow) SQL Server connections. • How to create a css rule for all elements except one class?!

Hi, I have created a CSS stylesheet for my project. Is there any way I can create a css rule that applies to all table elements EXCEPT table elements belonging to the class "dojoxGrid"? Something like: .not(dojoxGrid) table{ width:100%; border-top:1px solid #dddddd; border-left:1px solid #dddddd; border-right:1px solid #dddddd; margin:1em auto; border-collapse:collapse; } Thanks in advance!

• Preventing multiple reporting of the same rule violation in FxCop -- What is Id?

- by Dave
FxCop is currently reporting the same rule violation for a particular method -- it has two out parameters, because I want to return two values to the caller without creating a struct for it. I wonder if anonymous types would solve my problem, but I didn't know about them at the time I had written the method. Anyhow, I'm getting CheckId CA1021 reported once for each parameter. I've copied the SuppressMessage text from FxCop, and then realized that the Id for each message is different! To me, it seems like you only need the CheckId, so... what is the Id used for? I haven't been able to find information about it online. will the Id remain the same? I assume so, or SuppressMessage wouldn't work the way one would want it to is there a way to specify the SuppressMessage attribute so that it suppresses for all Ids?

• How to replace 'dash' with 'underscore' in an IIRF rule?

- by jessegavin
I have a web app which serves images based on the subdomain. We wanted to provide our users with a url like this: http://{username}.domain.com/images/myimage.jpg Instead of what we used to have: http://www.reallylongdomainname.com/users/{username}/images/myimage.jpg This makes the url shorter and less 'snoopable'. So I set up an IIRF .ini file to do some url rewriting and it works great except for the fact that some of our users folders have an underscore. And from what I've read, underscore is not a valid character in a domain name (even though IIS supports it). I want to know how I could do a find and replace in the $1 back reference so that a url like this: http://some-user.domain.com/... Could be rewritten to this: /users/some_user/.. Here's my IIRF rule. RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(?!www)([^\.]+)\.domain\.com RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /users/*1/$1 [L,I] Thanks for any help.

• AsyncTask Threading Rule - Can it really only be used once?

- by stormin986
In the documentation on AsyncTask it gives the following as a rule related to threading: The task can be executed only once (an exception will be thrown if a second execution is attempted.) All this means is that you have to create a new instance of the class every time you want to use it, right? In other words, it must be done like this: new DownloadFilesTask().execute(url1, url2, url3); new DownloadFilesTask().execute(url4, url5, url6); Or conversely, you can NOT do the following: DownloadFilesTask dfTask = new DownloadFilesTask(); dfTask().execute(url1, url2, url3); dfTask().execute(url4, url5, url6); Can someone verify this is an accurate interpretation? I realize I pretty much just answered this for myself as I was typing this out... But it wasn't immediately obvious to me so I think this would be useful to have posted nonetheless.
