    Hi, I am trying to use the NDK 5 full C++ gnustl: sources/cxx-stl/gnu-libstdc++/README states: This implementation fully supports C++ exceptions and RTTI. But all attempts using exceptions fail. An alternative NDK exists on http://www.crystax.net/android/ndk-r4.php. Even the hello-jni example from that site does not work. Compliation works after creating an Application.xml with APP_STL := gnustl_static But it dies the same horrific death as my own experiments. Am I am missing something or is the statement in the README just plain wrong?

Essentially I would like it just to let my normal exception handling infrastructure deal with it. The exception is an inheritor of System.Exception which I wrote and have the source code for. Any where this is thrown I want VS to not catch it, ie it is not useful to just supress a single throw new BlahException(); in code. This is because the exception is thrown a lot, and I don't want to have to supress every single instance individually. In case it makes a difference I am on Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, Framework 3.5 SP1.

  • Android / Java rare and seemingly impossible exception causing force close

    Hello all, I have an interesting problem being reported to me from an android application I have published. I have a two-dimensional array that I am iterating through using two for loops like so: for (int i = 0; i < arr.length; ++i) { for (int j = 0; j < arr[i].length; ++j) { if (arr[i][j] != 0) // does stuff } } The problem is, somehow arr[i][j] != 0 is throwing an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException. But very rarely. I have thousands of people use the app on a daily basis and get maybe twenty force close reports. Is this something I can't avoid, maybe a problem with the phones memory, etc. or is there something I can do that I haven't thought of yet? Thanks.

    I want to create a mecanism in a large .net application to handle all the exceptions in the application, and to save the error messages (in db or log file) so these errors can be fixed, and so we are aware of the problems in the application.     I have to parse a String that can assume hex values or other non-hex values 0xff, 0x31 or A, PC, label, and so on. I use this code to divide the two cases: String input = readInput(); try { int hex = Integer.decode(input); // use hex ... } catch (NumberFormatException e) { // input is not a hex, continue parsing } Can this code be considered "ugly" or difficult to read? Are there other (maybe more elegant) solutions? EDIT : I want to clarify that (in my case) a wrong input doesn't exist: i just need to distinguish if it is a hex number, or not. And just for completeness, i'm making a simple assebler for DCPU-16.

Now... it surprises me because I know std::out_of_range exists and I have #include <stdexcept>

    In Visual C++ 2008, I want to "catch" an exception generated as shown here: try { int foo = 20; ::fgetpos(0, (fpos_t*)&foo); } //... Here are adjustments I've made to attempt a successful catch: SEH is activated (/eha) I've added a catch(...) I've added a _set_se_translator vector. I've added/adjusted to SEH syntax: __try / __except(EXCEPTION_EXECUTE_HANDLER) In short, I've tried "everything in the book" and I still can't catch the exception. If I replace the call to ::fgetpos with int hey = foo / 0 then suddenly all of the above techniques work as expected. So the exception I'm dealing with from ::fgetpos is somehow "extra special." Can someone explain why this ::fgetpos error seems uncatchable, and how to work around it? update When executed in the VS IDE, the output window doesn't name an exception. All it says is this: Microsoft Visual Studio C Runtime Library has detected a fatal error in MyProgram.exe. Not very helpful. When I run the console app from the command line, I get a crash dialogue.     I have a program that throws an uncaught exception somewhere. All I get is a report of an exception being thrown, and no information as to where it was thrown. It seems illogical for a program compiled to contain debug symbols not to notify me of where in my code an exception was generated. Is there any way to tell where my exceptions are coming from short of setting 'catch throw' in gdb and calling a backtrace for every single thrown exception?

They may have a very different structure, but could contain many duplicate files. An example would be a structured collection of photographs on one hand (the destination), and just a tmp directory in which you unload everything from your camera on the other (the source). Maybe some of these files are already in the structured directory tree. I would like to rsync from the source to the target, such that only the files from the source that are not in the destination at any location are copied.

    Hi, We are using Twitterizer for Twitter integration to get the Tweets details. When making call to the method OAuthUtility.GetRequestToken, following exception is coming. System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. When the application is hosted on IIS 5, the application works fine and the above error is coming only when the application is hosted in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 R2. and the method OAuthUtility.GetRequestToken throws above exception. It seems the issue is something with code access security. Please suggest what kind of permissions should be given to fix the security exception. The application has the Full Trust and I have even tried by registering the Twitterizer DLL in GAC and still the same error is coming. I am not sure what makes the difference between IIS 5 and IIS 7 with regards to code access security to cause that exception. Following is the stack track of the exception.   • How to void checked exceptions in Java?

    I consider checked exception for a design mistake in the Java language. They lead to leaky abstractions and a lot of clutter in the code. It seems that they force the programmer to handle exceptions early although they are in most cases better handled lately. So my question is how to avoid checked exception? My idea is to execute the actual code inside an exception translator using lambda expressions. Example: ExceptionConverter.convertToRuntimeException(() => { // do things that could throw checked exceptions here }); If for example a IOException occurs it gets rethrown as an exception with the same name but from a different class hierarchy (based on RuntimeException). This approach would effectivly remove the need to handle or declare checked exceptions. Exceptions could then be handled where and if it makes sense. Another solution would be to declare IOException throws Exception on each method. What do you think which solution is better? Do you know any better approach to avoid (suppress) checked exceptions in Java?

Should I handle the exception in the file loader and return Null if something is wrong, or should I throw the exception and handle it in the controller? Without the file the rest of the program can´t work. Where should I handle a exception that shuts down the program properly? I want to shut down an Android application properly.
