• Validate a single property with the Fluent Validation Library for .Net

  Can you validate just a single property with the Fluent Validation Library, and if so how? I thought this discussion thread from January of 2009 showed me how to do it via the following syntax: validator.Validate(new Person(), x => x.Surname); Unfortunately it doesn't appear this works in the current version of the library. One other thing that led me to believe that validating a single property might be possible is the following quote from Jeremy Skinners' blog post: "Finally, I added the ability to be able to execute some of FluentValidation’s Property Validators without needing to validate the entire object. This means it is now possible to stop the default “A value was required” message from being added to ModelState. " However I do not know if that necessarily means it supports just validating a single property or the fact that you can tell the validation library to stop validating after the first validation error.

• Problem using Hibernate-Search

  Hi, I am using hibernate search for my application. It is well configured and running perfectly till some time back, when it stopped working suddenly. The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes? • Dynamicdata Validation Exception Message Caught in JavaScript, not DynamicValidator

  I have a page here with a few list views on it that are all bound to Linq data sources and they seem to be working just fine. I want to add validation such that when a checkbox (IsVoid on the object) is checked, comments must be entered (VoidedComments on the object). Here's the bound object's OnValidate method: partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (action == ChangeAction.Update) { if (_IsVoid) { string comments = this.VoidedComments; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(this._VoidedComments)) { throw new ValidationException("Voided Comments are Required to Void an Error"); } } } } Despite there being a dynamic validator on the page referencing the same ValidationGroup as the dynamic control, when the exception fires, it's caught in JavaScript and the debugger wants to break in. The message is never delivered to the UI as expected. Any thoughts as to What's going on?

• asp.net rangevalidator for calendar extender entries gives problems in safari

  Hi there, I have the following scenario: arrival and departure dates have to be selected on a form, through 2 textboxes with a calendar extender each. I validate the entries to check that no date before today is selected and to check that the departure is after the arrival. I used a rangevalidator and a comparevalidator. In IE, Firefox and Opera it is working fine, in Safari (on windows) however both the validators go off even on entries that should be accepted. It makes me suspect that the date format dd/MM/yyyy causes trouble for Safari. (the dd/MMMM/yyyy also gave the same troubles in the other browsers, probably due to the dependency on UIculture) The code is:   The range validator gets its values in code behind on Page_load RangeValidator1.MinimumValue = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1).ToShortDateString(); RangeValidator1.MaximumValue = DateTime.Now.AddMonths(12).ToShortDateString(); Does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve this problem with safari? best regards, Robin

• jQuery Validate - resetForm() Not Behaving as Expected

  Site in question is http://epraxadev.com/kw/palisade-palms/ "Click here for brochure" and "Learn More about Palisade Palms" both bring up a lightbox with the same HTML form to be filled out...the "learn more..." link also changes some of the HTML in the form (the value for a hidden form field, and the fields required). I'm using Colorbox for the lightbox, and for its onClosed event, I have this to reset the form: onClosed: function() { $('#brochure-form label em').remove(); $('#brochure-form').data('validator').resetForm(); } Now here's the problem: User tries to submit the "brochure" form, but it fails validation. User closes the lightbox. User opens up the "Learn more" lightbox, and tries to submit the form...now, instead of using the correct validation rules (only requiring e-mail and referrer), it requires all fields to be filled out (as is the case with the "Brochure Form") Is there something that I can add to the onClosed function, to clean up all the validation rules? • ASP.NET MVC 2: Custom client side validation rule for dropdowns

  I have some custom validation that I need to perform that involves checking the selected option of a dropdown and flagging it as invalid should the user select a specific option. I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 and have a custom Validator and custom server side and client side validation rules as described in this blog article. The server side validation is working fine, however, the client side validation is failing. Here is the javascript validation rule: Sys.Mvc.ValidatorRegistry.validators["badValue"] = function(rule) { var badValue = rule.ValidationParameters["badValue"]; return function(value, context) { if (value != badValue) { return true; } return rule.ErrorMessage; }; }; The rule is being applied to the dropdowns successfully, and placing a breakpoint within the returned function confirms that the validation is firing, and that the 'badValue' is being correctly set. However, 'value' is always null, and so the check always fails. What am I doing wrong?

Then i want to validate that the User typed in the password that is the same in the Database. So I know that it is the right user trying to change the birthday.   Hello, I'm building form validation controls for our C# ASP application. The bulk of the work is handled by a BaseValidator control (subclassing System.Web.UI.UserControl), which also has the markup for the validation output. This is then extended by subcontrols like PasswordValidator, that provides the Validate method and any extra fields needed by that validator control. (The end goal is to have controls like <uc1:PasswordValidator ControlId="txtPassword" /> which we can plop into any form with minimum duplication.) However, PasswordValidator.ascx.cs cannot access the form elements defined in BaseValidator.ascx; the only way I've found to do so is to duplicate the markup in each subcontrol's *.ascx file. How can I extend BaseValidator.ascx.cs and access BaseValidator.ascx's markup in the subclass?

• Ignore certificate errors when requesting a URL in Java

  I'm trying to print a URL (without having a browser involved at all) but the URL is currently throwing the following: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target I'm calling the URL using a JEditorPane's setPage method, which just takes a URL as a parameter. Assuming I can't change anything server side and I still need to get to this resource, how would I go about ignoring the certificate error (or something else that gets me to my goal)? Accessing this URL via a browser tells me the site is untrusted and asks me if I want to proceed.

  I have read a few books on OOP DDD/PoEAA/Gang of Four and none of them seem to cover the topic of validation - it seems to be always assumed that data is valid. I gather from the answers to this post (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1651964/oop-design-question-validating-properties) that a client should only attempt to set a valid property value on a domain object. Do you have a 'validator method' alongside every getter and setter? isValidName() setName() getName() I seem to be missing some key basic knowledge about OOP data validation - can you point me to a book that covers this topic in detail? - ie. covering different types of validation / invariants/ handling feedback / to use Exceptions or not etc

  Hello Everyone, After having a search around I could not find exactly what I want, I am looking to validate a form client side using the Jquery library and some form of validation plugin. I was hoping that some one could advise me on whether there are any validation plugins out there that do not use generic error messages, as my form is laid out with no room for these errors, and I also I want the validator to to for correct content as well. Basically I want to be able to check the field on each key press and blur and if the fields validates for it to gain a green border, and if it does not validate for it to gain a red border, any one know of a plugin that can do this? Any ideas what I can do to fix this? I'm studying the MVC 2 source-code to try to determine why this happens.

  Hello to everybody. I've found a very good article about how to use EntLib Validation Block for server validation in MVC 2. But as there pointed out The current design of EntLib’s Validation Application Block uses the Composite pattern; that is, when we ask for validation for an object, it returns back a single validator object that contains a list of all the validation work to be done. While this is very convenient from a normal usage scenario, the unfortunate side-effect is that we can’t “peek inside” to see what the individual validations are that it’s doing, and therefore can’t generate the appropriate client-side validation hints. So how is it possible to implement client side validation for EntLib? Is there work around?

  It looks like a standard question, but I couldn't find clear directions anywhere. I have java code trying to connect server with probably self-signed (or expired) certificate. It gives something like this [HttpMethodDirector] I/O exception (javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException) caught when processing request: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target As I understand, I have to play around with keytool and tell java that it's ok to allow this connection. But all comments I've found assume I'm fully proficient with keytool, like "generate private key for server and import it into keystore". And I'm not. Is there anybody who could post detailed instructions? I'm running unix, so bash script would be best. Not sure if it's important, but code executed in jboss. Thanks a lot!

• asp.net compare validators to allow comma and dot (both!) as decimal separator

  I am using a compare validator, which validates that the entered number is a valid double and also validates it against a given value (greater than zero). I am validating money amounts. Because of the location where the app is used, the locale sets the comma as the decimal separator. The problem is that when a user enters the value using the numeric keyboard, the number gets written with the dot as decimal separator, and is rejected by the validation. I'd like to have this validation done before triggering a postback (like a customvalidator would) and accepting both separators. Any ideas? Thanks

  I have a multiple select, and I need to force the user to choose maximum two options, nothing more. I'm trying this: jQuery.validator.addMethod("morethantwo", function(value, element) { var foo = []; $(element+' :selected').each(function(i, selected){ foo[i] = $(selected).text(); alert(foo[i]); }); return true; },"Max two options." ); The problem is that I get a: uncaught exception: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: [object HTMLSelectElement] error. While if I do this: $(element).each(function(i, selected){ foo[i] = $(selected).text(); alert(foo[i]); }); It works but I get all the options in the select. Why is that? Is this the correct road to walk? Are there better ways to do this kind of check? Thank you very much!

• DataAnnotations in ASP.NET MVC 2 - Stop MVC from applying RequiredAttribute to Non-nullable DateTime

  Im trying to create a custom version of the RequiredAttribute to replace the built in one and I've got it working for properties that have strings values, but with properties that are DateTime or integer for example, the default RequiredAttribute seems to be applied automatically (IF the property is not nullable!) My problem is that i want to be able to specify a DateTime property as required using my custom required validator which gets the error message from a resources file (I don't want to have to tell the RequiredAttribute the type of the resource file and the key every time i apply it. That is why I'm making a custom one.) How can i prevent the framework from applying the required attribute to properties of type DateTime and int etc without changing them to nullable. Thanks

For example, if I have a class MyClass, then the new class could be named something like MyClassAdapter, MyClassCalculator, MyClassDispatcher, MyClassParser,... This new name should of course represent the behaviour of the class and would ideally be same as the design pattern in which it is used (Adapter, Decorator, Factory,...). But since we don't overuse design patterns, this is not always the solution :) So, do you know for a dictionary or a list of common words, that we can use to represent the behaviour of the class, containing a short description of the expected behaviour? Some examples: replicator, shadow, token, acceptor, worker, mapper, driver, bucket, socket, validator, wrapper, parser, verifier,... You could also look at this list as a cheat sheet for metaphors, with which you can better understand your problem domain.
