• Ubuntu 12.04 update + VirtualBox VM 4.1.14 r77440 - No input

  I can only enter my password with the keyboard and this is what I see after I login If I try to switch to a terminal with CtrlAlt+F1 I get this I don't have a clue how to fix this, or if it's even possible to fix this without access to a terminal. The recovery console does not work either. It opens, but keyboard input doesn't seem to be working for it either. Anybody had this happened? Update (next day) Keyboard input lets me do Alt+F2 and invoke a terminal, but I can't change focus to the terminal window that opens. Any tip on how to switch focus (Alt+Tab wont work) to the terminal window. Maybe looking at this you might have a clue what's going on, maybe there's no window manager loading?

Therefore, I need just a very minimal core OS that can support virtualbox as there will no usage of core OS other than start up the virtualbox. Any OS that is suitable for this situation? Tried JEOS and Fedora minimal installation which is only CLI. However, I cant make those 2 OS to support virtualbox. Please help. Sorry Im totally new to Unix and CLI. Thanks

• networking through openstack installed on vm

  I am trying to set up a test installation of Openstack on a Ubuntu 12.04 VM running on a ESXi server. So far I have been able to launch the VMs on the ESXi, however am unable to assign IP addresses to them. As the VM with the Openstack installation has a single public IP, I wish to assign IPs to the VMs create through Openstack so that they can directly interact with the public network itself without having a separate private network. So I feel that bridging would not be the correct option here. But am unable to find the correct documents to go ahead with such an install.   On a Server 2008 SP2 HyperV VM, I am trying to capture traffic from a SPAN. I know the SPAN is working, as I am able to capture the traffic on the Host OS, but when I try and capture traffic on the VM, with the SPAN being sent to a virtual adapter, I cannot seem to get it to work-- After doing some Googling, I have found that it might be because HyperV NICs cannot be put into promiscuous mode. (?) Any other thoughts? -Josh

  i just installed a ubuntu 12.04 server on a 2008 R2 Hyper-V server and all is fine (networking/storage ...). There is just one thing, when i halt my linux (using "sudo halt"), i can see on the console that the system is halted but the vm status on hyper-v is still "started". Then i need to stop it on the hyper-v management tool. Anybody has an idea on how to properly stop this VM on hyper-V automatically ? Thanks, Alex

  We have a linux VM running under XenServer that reboots itself with no apparent reason. If I clone one of the nodes to a new VM, then start it with no networking, stop mysql, change the server-id in my.cnf to a new id and then restart mysql and networking, will it all work correctly, or will mysql get confused because it used to be a different server id? • Mesh Remote Desktop crashes 64 bit Windows 7 VM (8 GB)

  I have a Windows 7 VirtualBox VM (64 bit, 8 GB) on a Snow Leopard host (64 bit, 24 GB). It works fine until I connect via Microsoft Mesh. When I connect via Mesh remote desktop, the VM crashes about one or two minutes after the connection has been established. It doesn't answer to pings (from the host and from other machines in the network) and no RDC connections (from other Windows machines in the network where Mesh works) are possible. Any ideas?

If I wanted to move this Virtual Machine to another VM Server than the one it is on currently, is it as simple as taking the .VHD, moving it to another server, and creating a VM in Hyper-V on the new server for it? In actuality I get one and a half pages of error which is completely unreadable and devoid of any logic or sense of respect for the user that is using Moose (in terms of intuitive error messages) just like the one above. What's to be done in this case ? I mean I get on my screen these error messages that are sometimes completely unrelated to the problem that I'm having (which I can assess after solving the problems that probably caused them, I say probably becuase I have no idea where these error messages came from because they look like they fell from the sky as they have no relation to the actual situation). Is this: the inexplicable dramatic destiny of the Perl programmer using Moose ? someone being extremely lazy and sloppy at writing error messages ? maybe on heavy drugs ? me not understanding basic english ? Gentlemen, when writing software, please please please, take care of the poor programmer that will use it and respect him by writing relevant error messages. (Except for error messages Moose is a pretty good piece of software)

• Separate functionality depending on Role in ASP.NET MVC

  I'm looking for an elegant pattern to solve this problem: I have several user roles in my system, and for many of my controller actions, I need to deal with slightly different data. For example, take /Users/Edit/1 This allows a Moderator to edit a users email address, but Administrators to edit a user's email address and password. I'd like a design for separating the two different bits of action code for the GET and the POST. Solutions I've come up with so far are: Switch inside each method, however this doesn't really help when i want different model arguments on the POST :( Custom controller factory which chooses a UsersController_ForModerators and UsersController_ForAdmins instead of just UsersController from the controller name and current user role Custom action invoker which choose the Edit_ForModerators method in a similar way to above Have an IUsersController and register a different implementation of it in my IoC container as a named instance based on Role Build an implementation of the controller at runtime using Castle DynamicProxy and manipulate the methods to those from role-based implementations Im preferring the named IoC instance route atm as it means all my urls/routing will work seamlessly. Ideas? Suggestions?

  Hey there, I'm trying to avoid the use of the Role Provider and Membership Provider since its way too clumsy in my opinion, and therefore I'm trying to making my own "version" which is less clumsy and more manageable/flexible. Now is my question.. is there an alternative to the Role Provider which is decent? (I know that I can do custom Role provier, membership provider etc.) By more manageable/flexible I mean that I'm limited to use the Roles static class and not implement directly into my service layer which interact with the database context, instead I'm bound to use the Roles static class which has its own database context etc, also the table names is awful.. Thanks in advance.
