• Multiple xmlns attributes affect page performance?

  We are working on adding some Facebook Connect functionality to our site. Part of their requirements for FB Connect require adding several additional xmlns attributes to the html element. We are likely going to have 5 or 6 of their custom attributes by the time we're done, and I want to know if this will negatively affect our page performance. I.e. will these be additional resources that the browser has to download? I have checked in Firebug and I don't see additional requests, but I don't know if that is because requests are not made by the browser, or if Firebug simply doesn't track them.

• Report Builder Error (Input string was not in a correct format) when filtering data

  Issue: the user is getting an error “The requested list could not be retrieved because the query is not valid or a connection could not be made to the data source.” while trying to filter a reporting using Report Builder 2.0. When you expand the details the message is “Input string was not in a correct format” I verified that when the user clicks to see the filter values the query is being sent to the underlying database (by using profiler). When I build the same report [I'm a server admin] I have no issues and see all the filtered values, which leads me to believe this is a permissions issue. I believe I granted all the correct permissions, see below: Report Server Setup [Project Name] Data Sources Models […other folders] We are using SQL Server 2005. • SIFR Newbie: font display problem in non-flash browsers

  Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help me with this as I'm fairly new to siFR and think there is something essential i'm not comprehending in the documentation. I'm having success using siFR 3 (r436) to render fonts and it's working just how I want. However if I turn flash off in any browser the original (no longer rendered) html text displays very badly indeed. I thought that in any non-flash browser my inital stylesheet would be referred to and not siFR.css and I would be able to adjust the html text as a seperate entity. I think i probably developed this bad idea because I remember in earlier siFR versions you had to mess around alot with stylings on the original stylesheet + the sifr-config so you would get corresponding line heights/widths etc between the html and rendered font. (i realise that siFR 3 renders the flash in a different way) So it seems that siFR.css controls both the non-flash text and the rendered font. Anyway my essential noob questions is: how do i get the the original html text to have the same dimensions as the rendered font? thanks for you help

Web browser (tested on IE8, Firefox 3.5.2, Opera 10) shows file length before I start download the file. When I run this code on remote IIS7, web browser doesn't shows file length. File length is unknown. Why I don't get file length when this code runs under IIS7?

• IIS7 - Specifying content-length header in ASP causes "connection reset" error

  I'm migrating a series of websites from an existing IIS5 server to a brand new IIS7 web server. One of the pages pulls a data file from a blob in the database and serves it to the end user: Response.ContentType = rs("contentType") Response.AddHeader "Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" & Trim(rs("docName"))&rs("suffix")' let the browser know the file name Response.AddHeader "Content-Length", cstr(rs("docsize"))' let the browser know the file size Testing this in the new IIS7 install, I get a "Connection Reset" error in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The document is served up correctly if the Content-Length header is removed (but then the user won't get a useful progress bar). Any ideas on how to correct this; whether it be a server configuration option or via code? Thanks.

• Shadow maps unable to properly project shadows in some situations?

  In the shadow map sample provided by Microsoft I've noticed an issue where shadows are not properly projected when thin geometry is projected at high angles, see here the shadows being projected, notice the poles from the lights are not projected: http://imgur.com/QwOBa.png And in this screenshot we see things from the lights perspective, not ethe poles are clearly visible: http://imgur.com/k2woZ.png So two questions really, is this an actual bug or a limitation with shadow mapping and if it's a bug how can I fix it? The source is directly from the Microsoft DirectX Sample Browser 'ShadowMap' sample from July 2004, the sample browser is the latest August 2009 one.

• Create a SOCKS Proxy that does nothing special

  I am trying to create a SOCKS proxy in C++ that runs as a background process on localhost. If the user's browser is configured to use the proxy, I want all HTTP requests to be passed along through the normal TCP/IP stack. i.e. The browser will behave exactly as it normally would. Eventually I will add another layer which will check to see if the requested resource matches certain criteria, and if so will handle the request differently. But for now I'm just trying to solve the basic problem... how to create a SOCKS proxy that doesn't change anything?

• Set up tunnel to HE.net and now only ipv6.google.com works, but other sites ping fine.

  I'm setting up IPv6 using my router which is running OpenWRT, version Backfire 10.03.1-rc4. I made a tunnel using Hurricane Electric's tunnel broker and set it up on the router and I'm using RADVD to hand out IPv6 addresses. My problem is that on computers on the network, I can only access ipv6.google.com using a browser, but other sites seem to be loading forever and won't open in any browser. I can ping and traceroute to them fine, but can't open them with a browser. I can open any site normally with a browser from the router. Stopping firewall service on the router doesn't help, so it's probably not a firewall issue. All AAAA records resolve fine, so it's probably not a DNS issue. Computers on the network get their IPv6 addresses fine, so it's probably not a radvd issue. Similar setup worked fine for SixXs, but I'm having problems with my PoP there, so I decided to move to HE.   I'm doing some in browser editing, and I have some content that's on the order of around 20k characters long in a <pre>. So it looks something like: <pre> Text 1 Text 2 Text 3 Text 4 [...] Text 20,000 </pre> I'd like to use jquery to trim it down when someone hits a button to chop, but I'm having trouble doing it without overloading the browser. Assume I know that the character numbers are at 16,510 - 17,888, and what I'd like to do is trim it. I was using: jQuery('#textsection').html(jQuery('textarea').html().substr(range.start)); But browsers seem to enjoy crashing when I do this. Alternatives?

Now when i browse the directory by browser then the codeigniter’s not found page displays. I can’t browser the file /assets/image.jpg but it displays when i call it from an tag What can i do now? • How to make IE 9 Standards Mode the default mode?

  I have a web site that works perfectly fine in IE9 when compatibility mode is turned OFF (the compatibility symbol is gray). When compatibility mode is turned on (blue), the jQuery doesn't work at all. I have added the following tag to the site to tell the browser that compatibility mode should NOT be used. <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge" > I have the doctype as this: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> Still, the browser doesn't seem to default to standard mode and the user must manually ensure that they are NOT in compatibility mode. Can I disable IE 9 Compatibility Mode? Have I done what I need to do to disable IE 9 Compatibility Mode? Can the user always override IE 9 Standards Mode?

• How to store or share live data between PHP Requests?

  Hi, I want to start a project for facebook and the application will be like real-time multiplayer chess game. The problem I'm having is I have no idea how to store the data when a player moves one piece and update the new position in player2 browser. I'm gonna use PHP, MySQL for server side and jQuery for Client Rendering. The simplest idea is to store the data in XML or MySQL and re-generate the result to player2 browser. But I know that when thousand of players are playing, it will not be an efficient way. Since I don't have time to study new language for this project, I'm gonna have to stick with PHP. I'm not going to use flash either because I want my client side light-weight and flash-free. So is there any way that will solve my problems?

  I have a webrequest that returns a html response which has form inside with hidden fields with some javascript that submits the form automatically on pageload ( if this was run in a browser). If I save this file as *.html and run this file in browser , the java script code automatically posts the form and the output is excel file. I want to be able to generate this file from a c# code which is not running in broswer. I tried mocking thr form post but its complicated and has various scenarios based on the original webrequest querystring. any pointers.... i know its not possible to probably run JS code that posts the form - from within c# code but still thought of chekcing if someone has done that.

• Launch intent viewer to display image from url

  I have the url of an image. What i need to do is launch the default image viewer for images using an intent. I tried launching it by using: Uri uri = Uri.parse("http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/srpr/logo1w.png"); Intent it = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW); it.setDataAndType(uri, "image/*") startActivity(it); But it doesn't work. If I do not specify the type of data, the intent launches the browser since the data is a url. It works basically (since you can see the image on the browser) but what I would like is to have the gallery display the image for me. I can also download the image into a Bitmap but I would still not know how to display the Bitmap using the gallery (if that's even possible). Any ideas?

For performing such things we need to setup the seperate fish eye server.If that is the case why we have the fish eye option in jenkins.We can perform all these activities in Fisheye instead of Jenkins.   hey, i saw this on a site a couple of days ago and i cant seem to find it again. in any case, this is what was on the site: the page opened regularly when you entered the url. upon clicking one of the links on the page, it "transitioned" to the next page (there was a color change). and the url in the address bar was changed to reflect that. eg: if the background was blue on site.com, when clicking on the about link, the background would change to green and the browser would show site.com/about. and so on. also, if the url entered was site.com/about, the bg would be green and on cliking the home page, the site would transition from green to blue and browser would show site.com im interested in finding out how this was done. searching on google got me the meta-refresh tag, but the ffect was much more complex and worked on all browsers. is there any other method out there?

• firefox component doesn't seem to be loading

Near as I can tell the component isn't working and I've no idea as to why. I've tried making the chrome.manifest file read as follows: content x-forwarded-for chrome/content/ overlay chrome://browser/content/browser.xul chrome://x-forwarded-for/content/overlay.xul locale x-forwarded-for en-US chrome/locale/en-US/ component ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384 components/x-forwarded-for.js contract @[email protected]/x-forwarded-for.js;1 ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384 I've also tried @frostjedi.com/x-forwarded-for;1 (which is what x-forwarded-for.js has as the contract id but that didn't help) to no avail. Any ideas?

• internet explorer 7 iframe unloads when going back

  Hi this is my first post here, so please be kind ;-) i'm implementing a browser history manager, just like rsh or yui browser history manager. The idea was not to constantly poll the url hash of a hidden iframe, but to capture the onscroll event of an iframe, when it scrolls to an anchor name on an urlhashchange. So on every click i add an new anchor to iframe and set the iframe's hash to the anchors name. When pressing the back or forward button the frame scrolls to the previous or next anchor and the onscroll event is fired. That works great on firefox 3.0+, IE6 and Opera but on IE7 when hiting the back button the frame unloads and loses all its anchors. If anyone has an idea why this is happening or even a fix for this "bug", please i'm slowly going insane over this. thanks in advance btw the onscroll idea comes from: http://www.zachleat.com/web/2008/08/21/onhashchange-without-setinterval/

• In Oracle 10g, how do I see tables in schemes other than system

  In the hr schema there's a table emloyees, I can query data from it specifying it implicitly SELECT count(*) FROM hr.employees while logged in as system, but when I navigate to Home-Object Browser in the browser I can't see the table employees and other tables in other schemas. Can I manage tables in schemas other than system while logged in as system? Maybe there's some setting which enables me to group tables by schema. My Oracle Database version is 10.2.0.1 Express Edition. IIRC I could see all tables in Oracle Database 10.1.x.y. Thanks.

• Handling Custom Protocols

  I'm looking to respond to an event from a web browser, hopefully any web browser. I'm working solely on windows and I came to the conclusion a custom protocol (I.E. myprot://collection/of/strings) is the best approach here (any objections?). But, handling an instance of this protocol seems to be a little less straight-forward. All I need is that collection of strings auto-magically passed to my already running application! (the app will only respond to these links while in a specific waiting state) So answer me this, if you can, Whats the 'popular' method of handling them or better yet Whats the 'best' (subjective - I know) way to do it? Although your answers don't need to be specific to my language, I am using Delphi for development. Thanks!

• Un-readable files uploaded via PHP FTP functions

  I just setup a LAMP development server and am still trouble-shooting some things. The server is installed on one computer and I use a Windows laptop to write my code and test the site via the web browser. My file uploading script works in that JPEG image files are successfully uploaded to the server, but when I try to view the images in the web browser, permission is denied. I check the permissions on the file via the server and they are 600. I can fix the issue by chmod 777 theimage.jpg, but this doesn't seem like a good solution at all. Does the solution have something to do with Apache configuration? Or is there something else I should be doing. Thank-you, Mike

• Does Amazon S3's HTTP Uploads feature support web-hook style callbacks?

  When uploading files to Amazon S3 using the browser http upload feature, I know I can specify a success_action_redirect field/value that will tell my browser where to go when the upload is done. I'm wondering: is it possible to ask Amazon to make a web hook style POST request to my web server whenever a file gets uploaded? Basically, I want a way of being notified whenever a client uploads a new file, so that my server can process the upload. I'd like to do this without relying on the client to make the request to my server to tell me the file has been uploaded (never trust the client, right?).
