  • Java- FileWriter/BufferedWriter - appending to end of a text file?

    I've done this before once, I'm trying to replicate what I did so far and this is what I've got: try { BufferedWriter writer = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("file.P", true)); System.out.println("entered"); if (!(newUserName.isEmpty()) || (newUserPass.isEmpty())){ writer.newLine(); writer.write("hellotest123"); writer.close(); } It seems to find file.P, which is just a txt file, but it doesn't seem to append anything onto it? It enters the code and passes the IF statement fine, but nothing is appended to the text file? I'm slightly stuck!

  • Windows 7 Slow Searching

    I have a new Windows 7 machine with twice as much RAM and a faster processor than my old Windows Server 2008 R2 Machine. I am disappointed that searching amongst my 10,000 image files takes twice as long on my new Windows 7 machine. Both machines have their own copy of these same files. In other respects e.g. opening my huge Outlook files, the new machine is faster. The Windows Search Service has started. And I set indexing on the image folder about 3 days ago. Any ideas why I suffer from this poor index / search experience? Other than adding / removing folders, is there anything I can do to tweak indexing?

    All, I have an SMS gateway application running on my server that passes incoming SMS messages to a php script. That script writes the data to a text file. Certain aspects of the message can be extracted as variables - for example: Message content: $msgdata Sender: $originator Time: $receivedtime etc... Using the script below I can easily write the message to a text file but it will write the data of every SMS that comes in. I only want to write to a text file if the $originator variable is a certain telephone number (e.g 07123456321) $date = date("d.m.Y H:i:s"); $msgdata = $_REQUEST["msgdata"]; $myFile3 = "test.txt"; $fh = fopen($myFile3, 'a') or die("can't open file"); $stringData3 = "$date - $msgdata\n"; fwrite($fh, $stringData3); fclose($fh); Your assistance is bery much appreciated.     I recently switched to Gnome 3 (on Onereic 11.10). I was a big fan of gnome-do (on Gnome 2), where I heavily used the "files and folders"-plugin. This allows to configure a list of files and folder to be searched on-the-fly while typing. E.g. starting to type "timesheet" opens "timesheet_2011.ods" from my dropbox account... I can't find anything like this in Gnome 3. I know that there is a list of "recent items", and also the name of bookmarked folders in nautilus is searched, but that's not (exactly) what I'm looking for... So, what I want is this: tell Gnome 3 where my files are (certainly not only in my home folder) have them searched on the fly while I'm typing I think Unity offers something like this - but hey, I'm using Gnome 3 ;-) Anything I missed?

  • Poor backlink profile - search rankings not updated for 2+ months

    I am carrying out some work on a website that is a PR2 with a few good quality, relevant backlinks (PR4-6). It has a presence on Twitter that is updated regularly, a Google Places listing, and listings on some decent directories (Qype etc). The site was rebuilt into Drupal 7 two months ago, with all the basics done - URL rewriting, XML Sitemap submitted to Google, and most importantly, good quality, structured content. I've noticed that Google is still showing "old" URL's from the previous version of the site that was ditched 8 weeks ago. I think the site may be penalised under the Penguin update, as a previous SEO company created many low quality links from link farms/directories. My question is what the correct way to deal with this is. Bing Webmaster Tools can "disavow" links, and I guess I can attempt to contact the link farms to have them removed. I've already submitted a request to Google to request that we have the penalty removed as we're trying to tidy up a bad history. We submit updated sitemaps to Google and Bing daily, and have built some further decent quality, relevant links. Is there anything further I can do?

If it matters we're making an open/free API with Ruby to query this data. Additionally I'm having a tough time posing this question so I've made it a community wiki so we can all pitch in!

    I am wondering if it is possible, and if so how, one could create a perl script that constantly monitors a file/db, and then call a subroutine to perform text processing if the file is changed. I'm pretty sure this would be possible using sockets, but this needs to be used for a webchat application on a site running on a shared host, and I'm not so sure sockets would be allowed on it. The basic idea is: create a listener for a chat file/database when the file is updated with a new message, call a subroutine the called subroutine will send the new message back to the browser to be displayed Thanks in advance.

    I take a picture with the camera using Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE ); startActivityForResult( intent, 22 ); When the activity completes, I write the bitmap picture out to a PNG file. java.io.FileOutputStream out = openFileOutput("myfile.png", Context.MODE_PRIVATE); bmp.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 90, out); That goes OK, and I can see the file is created in my app private data space. I'm having difficulty when I later want to display that image using an ImageView. Can anyone suggest code to do this? If I try to create a File with path separators in, it fails. If I try to create a Uri from a name without separators, that fails. I can open the file OK using: java.io.FileInputStream in = openFileInput("myfile.png"); But that doesn't give me the Uri I need to set an image with iv.setImageURI(u) Summary: I have the picture in a png file in private app data. What's the code to set that into an ImageView? Thanks.

  • Two "subdomains" crossing search results

    My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and domain). All schools in the state are issued a .qld.edu.au, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as "calvary christian college townsville" (if you check the sitelinks 2/6 are to a different domain). I've put a demotion in for this ages ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime this week. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au. We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.
