    This is inspired by and related to Is the June 2010 DX SDK really the latest? asked recently but it's a different question. I won't likely be purchasing the full visual studio 2012 for C++, I intend to use the free visual c++ express 2012 that targets desktop applications when it is released so for now I'm using visual c++ express 2010 running on windows 7. The latest directx11 sdk is the one included in the windows 8 SDK now, it's not a separate release any more. So my question is, can I use the windows 8 SDK to build directx11 programs that work on windows 7 using visual studio express 2010 running on windows 7. Or do I need to stick to the final DirectX SDK release for now?

    I work in an office area of ~450sqft. There are a total of 7 people working in the office. I've been finding it hard to concentrate on my work (writing code) because of the distractions going on around me. The distractions are both work-related and non-work-related conversations. I'm trying to figure out what to do in this situation. I want to be part of the team, and I want to get my work done to the best of my ability. I can easily think of two options that I don't like: Stay where I am, not be able to concentrate and get less work done Move somewhere else. (This is tough because I code on a desktop, so I'm not very mobile.) But what are other options? I'm going to talk this through with my team in the next couple days. Any advice or solutions would be great.

    Hi everyone, my name is Joash Mitei. I am a graduate Intern at Oracle Systems Kenya and I will briefly take you through our offices and the working environment here in Nairobi, Kenya. I’ve been with Oracle since February 2012 and I’m responsible for Applications Pre-sales focusing on Oracle EPM and E-Business Suite. My background is Finance and Accounting therefore joining Oracle was almost a totally a different ball game but the transition has been smooth. The Oracle offices here are located on the second floor of Mebank Towers. We moved to the 2nd floor just three months ago from the 5th floor mainly because of the growing workforce. We are covering the whole Eastern Africa region hence diversity in culture is evident. This is a plus since you get to interact with people of very different backgrounds, cultures and ways of thinking. The building itself is on the outskirts of the CBD hence free from the hustle and bustle of the town. The office is split into different sections; there is a main working area which has an open desk design that fosters interaction between colleagues, there are 4 conference rooms for meetings and presentations, there are 3 quiet rooms for a little privacy when needed and there is a dining area for meals and ‘hanging out’. The working environment is world-class, to say the least. The employees are very professional, quite smart and needless to say, very busy. There are 4 interns covering sales and pre-sales in both Tech and Apps. As an intern you get support from your supervisor but you are required to show initiative yourself and thus the need to be very pro-active and inquisitive. The local management is well structured and communicative to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the office. Apart from the daily work, we usually have events to boost staff morale such as ‘TGIF hang -out’, football matches against each other or versus other companies, and team building retreats. All these are monumental in fostering the RED POTENTIAL. We also do numerous CSR activities in the local communities . Well, that’s the Kenyan office for you. Glad to be your tour guide.     Hi, I've made a form containing a TVirtualStringTree that works in Delphi 7 and Delphi 2010. I notice that as I move between the two platforms I get the message '...parameter list differ..' on the tree events and that the string type is changing bewteen TWideString (D7) and string (D2010). The only trick I've found to work to suppress this error is to use compiler directives as follows: {$IFDEF TargetDelphi7} procedure VirtualStringTree1GetText(Sender: TBaseVirtualTree; Node: PVirtualNode; Column: TColumnIndex; TextType: TVSTTextType; var CellText: WideString); {$ELSE} procedure VirtualStringTree1GetText(Sender: TBaseVirtualTree; Node: PVirtualNode; Column: TColumnIndex; TextType: TVSTTextType; var CellText: string); {$ENDIF} and to repeat this where the events are implemented.     I want to keep the console (output) window open to view the output of the project I am working on. I have enabled the start without debugging option and added the button to the debugging toolbar, but alas it fails to keep it open nicely like in visual studio 2008. I have to add cin.getline() etc etc etc to get it to stay open, but I don't want to type it. Any suggestions as to alter it Visual Studio 2010 to keep it open, or any debugging tricks to make it easier to view output for longer than a flash. Visual Studio used to have a "Press any key to continue prompt" I want it back...
