  • Is this a good way to do a game loop for an iPhone game?

    - by Danny Tuppeny
Hi all, I'm new to iPhone dev, but trying to build a 2D game. I was following a book, but the game loop it created basically said: function gameLoop update() render() sleep(1/30th second) gameLoop The reasoning was that this would run at 30fps. However, this seemed a little mental, because if my frame took 1/30th second, then it would run at 15fps (since it'll spend as much time sleeping as updating). So, I did some digging and found the CADisplayLink class which would sync calls to my gameLoop function to the refresh rate (or a fraction of it). I can't find many samples of it, so I'm posting here for a code review :-) It seems to work as expected, and it includes passing the elapsed (frame) time into the Update method so my logic can be framerate-independant (however I can't actually find in the docs what CADisplayLink would do if my frame took more than its allowed time to run - I'm hoping it just does its best to catch up, and doesn't crash!). // // GameAppDelegate.m // // Created by Danny Tuppeny on 10/03/2010. // Copyright Danny Tuppeny 2010. Bonus points if you can tell me why all the books use "viewController.view" but for everything else seem to use "[object name]" format. Why not [viewController view]?

  • Can't interact with children of an itemRenderer in Flex 4 Gumbo

    - by BlueDude
    I thought this would be pretty easy but I'm running into all sorts of problems with this. I have an ItemRenderer with a an image and two labels. I want to assign separate mouse events to the image and two labels. It seems like the item renderer is treated like a single interactive piece and I haven't found a way to override that. I couldn't even disable the default rollover effect so I had to style the rollOverColor to match my background. Can anyone provide a solution? <s:DataGroup id="browserDataGroup" dataProvider="{model.userBoardList}" verticalCenter="0" left="10" rollOverColor="0x424242" itemRenderer="edu.xxxxx.components.board.BrowserItemRenderer"> <!--itemrenderer code below --> <s:ItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo" xmlns:ns="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true" mouseChildren="true"> <s:states> <s:State name="up"/> <s:State name="over"/> </s:states> <s:layout> <s:VerticalLayout gap="2"/> </s:layout> <s:Group> <ns:Image id="image" source="{data.thumbnail}" addedEffect="Fade" completeEffect="Fade" removedEffect="Fade" width="130" height="89" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0"/> <s:Rect id="imageRect" width="130" height="89"> <s:stroke> <s:SolidColorStroke color="0xFFFFFF" joints="miter" pixelHinting="true"/> </s:stroke> </s:Rect> </s:Group> <s:Label text="{data.title}" color="0xFFFFFF" fontWeight="bold"/> <s:Group> <s:layout> <s:HorizontalLayout gap="3"/> </s:layout> <s:Label text="Edit" color="0xFFFFFF" click="trace('edit');" textDecoration.up="underline" textDecoration.over="none"/> <s:Label text="|" color="0xFFFFFF"/> <s:Label text="Delete" color="0xFFFFFF" click="trace('delete');" textDecoration.up="underline" textDecoration.over="none"/> </s:Group> </s:ItemRenderer>

  • Cancel UITouch Events When View Covered By Modal UIViewController

    - by kkrizka
Hi there, I am writing an application where the user has to move some stuff on the screen using his fingers and drop them. To do this, I am using the touchesBegan,touchesEnded... function of each view that has to be moved. The problem is that sometimes the views are covered by a view displayed using the [UIViewController presentModalViewController] function. As soon as that happens, the UIView that I was moving stops receiving the touch events, since it was covered up. But there is no event telling me that it stopped receiving the events, so I can reset the state of the moved view. The following is an example that demonstrates this. The functions are part of a UIView that is being shown in the main window. It listens to touch events and when I drag the finger for some distance, it presents a modal view that covers everything. In the Run Log, it prints what touch events are received. - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSLog(@"touchesBegan"); touchStart=[[touches anyObject] locationInView:self]; } - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { CGPoint touchAt=[[touches anyObject] locationInView:self]; float xx=(touchAt.x-touchStart.x)*(touchAt.x-touchStart.x); float yy=(touchAt.y-touchStart.y)*(touchAt.y-touchStart.y); float rr=xx+yy; NSLog(@"touchesMoved %f",rr); if(rr > 100) { NSLog(@"Show modal"); [viewController presentModalViewController:[UIViewController new] animated:NO]; } } - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSLog(@"touchesEnded"); } - (void)touchesCancelled:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSLog(@"touchesCancelled"); } But when I test the application and trigger the modal dialog to be displayed, the following is the output in the Run Log. [Session started at 2010-03-27 16:17:14 -0700.] 2010-03-27 16:17:18.831 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesBegan 2010-03-27 16:17:19.485 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesMoved 2.000000 2010-03-27 16:17:19.504 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesMoved 4.000000 2010-03-27 16:17:19.523 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesMoved 16.000000 2010-03-27 16:17:19.538 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesMoved 26.000000 2010-03-27 16:17:19.596 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesMoved 68.000000 2010-03-27 16:17:19.624 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesMoved 85.000000 2010-03-27 16:17:19.640 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] touchesMoved 125.000000 2010-03-27 16:17:19.641 modelTouchCancel[2594:207] Show modal Any suggestions on how to reset the state of a UIView when its touch events are interrupted by a modal view?

  • BES Express - configure MDS to push messages from 3rd party web application

    - by Max Gontar
Hi! I have developed IIS web service to send PAP messages using Blackberry Push API over MDS. And there is an application installed on device, configured to receive push messages on appropriate port. Everything works well on MDS simulator. But it's not working well in real environment: I have installed BES Express and register several devices. I can browse MDS url with appropriate port, so url is correct. Also port enabled for reliable pushes is used in push message and in device application. Here is MDS simulator log: <2011-01-12 14:00:03.456 EET>:[272]:<MDS-CS_MDS>:<DEBUG>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = PapServlet: request from 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1 564 bytes...> <2011-01-12 14:00:03.476 • linking the EF 4.0 context to the WCF call context

    - by pablocastilla
Hello, I would like to create an Entity Framework 4.0 context when a call is received and invoke to save changes when it finish, (something like JPA). I think it is a good idea because I can use the state for all the call, It is short and encapsulate enogh to be threadsafe and long enough for caching calls and the context itself. Any idea how is the best way for implement this?

  • How to create a Turing machine that takes a single digit decimal number from 0 - 9 and output the cu

    - by Julian
I'm working on a project for a Turning machine but having problems conceptualizing the steps. f(x) = x^3, where x is a single digit between 0 - 9 inclusive. Based on my understanding I am to convert the number to binary but how do I find the cube of a number in binary. Also, how do I write the cube on the tape. So far I'm thinking I should create a state diagram that accepts the binary versions of 0-9 but what next?

  • When will the ValueConverter's Convert method be called in wpf

    - by sudarsanyes
I have an ObservableCollection bound to a list box and a boolean property bound to a button. I then defined two converters, one that operates on the collection and the other operates on the boolean property. Whenever I modify the boolean property, the converter's Convert method is called, where as the same is not called if I modify the observable collection. What am I missing?? • USB Endpoint Stalled Error

    - by Harsha
Hi All, I am getting "endpoint stalled error" in my CDC device. The usb stack is detecting the cable. The state is set as running but the errorcode is set as 0x11 which indicates 'USB_ENDPOINT_STALLED'. I verified and found that the endpoints has been assigned properly. What would be scenarios when "endpoint stalled error" would be reported? How to handle this? Please advise!

  • Jquery Cycle Plugin Question - turning off relative links to photos so it goes to a URL

    - by alpdog14
I am using Jquery Cycle Plugin and it has a side panel that highlights as the photos change and currently when I click on the text the associated photo pulls up then I have to click on the photo to go to the URL but I would like the text itself to link to the URL. I have looked at the fn.cycle.defaults but not sure what to change and I tried a few things but nothing works. If anyone can help me figure this out it would be most helpful. Here are the fn.cycle.defaults: fx: 'fade', // one of: fade, shuffle, zoom, scrollLeft, etc timeout: 4000, // milliseconds between slide transitions (0 to disable auto advance) continuous: 0, // true to start next transition immediately after current one completes speed: 1000, // speed of the transition (any valid fx speed value) speedIn: null, // speed of the 'in' transition speedOut: null, // speed of the 'out' transition next: null, // id of element to use as click trigger for next slide prev: null, // id of element to use as click trigger for previous slide prevNextClick: null, // callback fn for prev/next clicks: function(isNext, zeroBasedSlideIndex, slideElement) pager: null, // id of element to use as pager container pagerClick: null, // callback fn for pager clicks: function(zeroBasedSlideIndex, slideElement) pagerEvent: null, // event which drives the pager navigation pagerAnchorBuilder: null, // callback fn for building anchor links before: null, // transition callback (scope set to element to be shown) after: null, // transition callback (scope set to element that was shown) end: null, // callback invoked when the slideshow terminates (use with autostop or nowrap options) easing: null, // easing method for both in and out transitions easeIn: null, // easing for "in" transition easeOut: null, // easing for "out" transition shuffle: null, // coords for shuffle animation, ex: { top:15, left: 200 } animIn: null, // properties that define how the slide animates in animOut: null, // properties that define how the slide animates out cssBefore: null, // properties that define the initial state of the slide before transitioning in cssAfter: null, // properties that defined the state of the slide after transitioning out fxFn: null, // function used to control the transition height: 'auto', // container height startingSlide: 0, // zero-based index of the first slide to be displayed sync: 1, // true if in/out transitions should occur simultaneously random: 0, // true for random, false for sequence (not applicable to shuffle fx) fit: 0, // force slides to fit container pause: true, // true to enable "pause on hover" autostop: 0, // true to end slideshow after X transitions (where X == slide count) autostopCount: 0, // number of transitions (optionally used with autostop to define X) delay: 0, // additional delay (in ms) for first transition (hint: can be negative) slideExpr: null, // expression for selecting slides (if something other than all children is required) cleartype: 0, // true if clearType corrections should be applied (for IE) nowrap: 0 // true to prevent slideshow from wrapping }; I have tried changing the pageClick and pagerEvent but nothing seems to be working. • Most Up-To-Date C# Duck-Typing Library

    - by Anton Gogolev
The title says it all, basically. What is the current state of the art on duck typing for C# below version 4.0? I know about Duck Typing Project, I know that BLTookit has something to that end, but I'd like to know if I'm missing something really wicked apart from DLR languages and C# 4.0. The inevitable:
