• Exclude category from main RSS feed, but not all feeds

  I've got a blog that supplies content to multiple MailChimp newsletters via RSS. The first newsletter works fine, but the second I'm having issues with. The issue I have is that the second newsletter has "hidden" content. This content isn't meant for wide consumption, so it doesn't appear on the frontpage, but is accessible elsewhere on the site. The snafu with this is that not all of this content is hidden, just some of it, while other pieces of content for this newsletter could overlap with the first newsletter. This obviously makes excluding everything problematic, as they could be assigned multiple categories, some of which I wouldn't want hidden. The issue I'm running into is that I have a way to exclude this content from the frontpage, but not from the main RSS feed. I'm using WP Hide Post for this, which allows me to exclude from feed, which in turn removes it from all feeds, including the ones that feed the newsletter. I'm currently using /feed?cat=XXX to reference these feeds. Is there a way to make it so category feeds still work, just the main /feed RSS would exclude it?

• Silverstripe: outputting DataObjectManager in template include

  I have followed the tutorial here http://doc.silverstripe.org/old/modules:dataobjectmanager to create a dataobjectmanager in my CMS. It's all working perfectly there however I am having an issue getting it to output in the template.   I guess this is fairly simple for you but i cant wrap my head around it. I ripped out the important part. I got text inside #content so i cant change it and i dont want to use !important tag. The css is presented in the order it is placed in my css file.   I recently presented session on Statistics and Best Practices in Virtual Tech Days on Nov 22, 2010. The sessions was very popular and I got many questions right after the sessions. The number question I had received was where everybody can get the further information. I am very much happy that my sessions created some curiosity for one of the most important feature of the SQL Server. Statistics are the heart of the SQL Server. Microsoft has published a white paper on the subject how statistics are useful to Query Optimizer. Here is the abstract of the same white paper from Microsoft. Statistics Used by the Query Optimizer in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Writer: Eric N. Hanson and Yavor Angelov Microsoft SQL Server 2008 collects statistical information about indexes and column data stored in the database. These statistics are used by the SQL Server query optimizer to choose the most efficient plan for retrieving or updating data. This paper describes what data is collected, where it is stored, and which commands create, update, and delete statistics. By default, SQL Server 2008 also creates and updates statistics automatically, when such an operation is considered to be useful. This paper also outlines how these defaults can be changed on different levels (column, table, and database). In addition, it presents how certain query language features, such as Transact-SQL variables, interact with use of statistics by the optimizer, and it provides guidance for using these features when writing queries so you can obtain good query performance. • Dutch Techdays 2011 in The Hague

  Microsoft organizes at April 27, 28 and 29 the Dutch Techdays in The Hague. Already for 14 years this is the biggest Microsoft event in The Netherlands where you get the chance to get up to speed with the latest technology with speakers all over the world. • Meta-licensing of applications

  I'm currently evaluating license management solutions for our customized and project-based applications, which are supported by a single server in the intranet of the customer. The applications use common functionality provided by the server (session handling, data synchronization, management capabilities, etc) and are installed on mobile devices. We allow our customers to run the applications on X devices and want to check on the server, whether the customer sticks to this limit (based on the sessions). We don't want licensing software to be installed on the devices itself (for example providing X serials to the customer) nor do we want to host an additional server for licensing in the intranet of the customer. If a client connects, our server should load the license for the application running on the client and verify, that there are sessions left. The licensing managers I looked at (12 products so far) focus on the application itself and don't allow me to implement such a floating behavior as described above. For example, this software could easily be used to create a "Standard Edition" or a "Professional Edition" of our server software, which is not our intention. In XHEO DeployLX there is a "Session Limit", which allows to limit the license to the currently established sessions in ASP.NET, which comes very close to my needs. I'm currently thinking of implementing a custom solution, which allows me to load and enforce custom-defined licenses per application on the server-side and a simple editor to define such licenses (which would contain a type and the limit itself), but I would appreciate an existing, easy to integrate commercial solution. I think it could be possible to use DeployLX for this task, but I would spend a lot of money for implementing most of the solution myself (except for the editor). • How do I stop Gimp from autolaunching on startup?

  Gimp launches every time I log into Xubuntu (v. 13.10). Gimp is not shown under Settings Manager- Sessions and startup. It does not appear in ~/.config/autostart. I immediately close Gimp in these cases, so it is not running when I shut down the session. How do I stop Gimp from autolaunching on startup?   Microsoft has published the schedule for the MIX10 sessions. I have a sweet spot, and I dearly hope that it stays this way (Last year I had a great spot, but it was changed last minute and then I had a much better one, “competing” against Vertigo and their Playboy app… yeah try to explain to a bunch of geeks that MVVM is better than Playboy… good luck with that ;) Anyway, this year my sweet spot is on the very first day of the conference (there are workshops on Sunday, but this qualifies as pre-conference), Monday after the keynote which should get everyone pumped and excited. Schedule and location I would be really happy to meet y’all at Understanding the Model-View-ViewModel Pattern in Lagoon F on Monday at 2:00 PM http://live.visitmix.com/MIX10/Sessions/EX14 See you in Vegas (or in video…) Everything I saw so far hints that this should be a very, very exciting edition of MIX, maybe the most electrifying ever. The great news is that everything will be available even if you cannot make it: The keynotes are typically streamed live, and if you remember last year’s experience at PDC, it is a really good alternative. Built with Silverlight, the feed uses smooth streaming (adjusting the quality according to your bandwidth automatically), possibility to pause and rewind if you miss something, and a great picture quality. As for the sessions, the message at MIX is that the videos will be available online approximately 24 hours after the session is being held. This is a great feat! So, see you in Vegas (or in video)!
