• Migrating JSF 1.2 to 2.x resulted in java.lang.NullPointerException at com.sun.faces.config.InitFacesContext.cleanupInitMaps

  I'm in process of migrating a JSF 1.2 application to JSF 2.x. My application is using the following APIs: maven-jetty-plugin (version 6.1.10) maven-compiler-plugin (version 2.3.1) myfaces-api & -impl (version 1.2.7) jsf-facelets (version 1.1.14) richfaces (version 3.3.3) javax servlet jstl (version 1.2) javax servlet-api (version 2.5) and some other plugins as well. I updated the versions in faces-config.xml file and removed Facelets 1.1.14 libs and replaced MyFaces 1.2 by JSF 2.x libs, however the application didn't work. So far, so good! As you can see the plugins are loaded from a folder, and within the folder are several dll's that are needed but the plugin. My problem is that I can't get the plugin to 'see' the dlls, it just searches the launching applications startup folder, but not the folder where the plugin was loaded from. I have tried several methods: 1. Changing the Current Directory to the plugins folder. 2. Using an inter-op call to SetDllDirectory 3. Adding an entry in the registry to point to a folder where I want it to look (see code below) None of these methods work. What am I missing? As I load the dll plugin dynamically, it does not seem to obey any of the above mentioned methods. What else can I try?   We have a legacy program that was ported from Java 1.3 to Java 1.5. This application involves applets which worked fine before. After porting however, the applet would not load. However there are no errors or exceptions. The app would just try to load it forever. We tried to run it with Java 1.6 and poof! No problems whatsoever. Isn't Java 6 backwards compatible? • installing plugins in vim

  I had a real difficulty installing vim plugins on mac. I know for a plugin to be installed it has to be seen by runtimepath. According to vim docs, this is Macintosh: "$VIM:vimfiles, $VIMRUNTIME, $VIM:vimfiles:after" First off, what does $VIM:vimfiles mean?? It is certainly not $VIM/vimfiles, as (~/.vim/vimfiles) does not work. So my options are 1) put my plugin in /usr/share/vim/vim73 (my $VIMRUNTIME, which i know to be BAD) 2) find a way to make vim look at my home directory when including plugins. I have putting my plugin in: ~/.vim/plugin.vim ~/.vim/vimfiles/plugin.vim ~/.vim/plugin/plugin.vim All to no avail. Can somebody help me out here? Thanks!

• Hide a base class method from derived class, but still visible outside of assembly

  This is a question about tidyness. The project is already working, I'm satisfied with the design but I have a couple of loose ends that I'd like to tie up. My project has a plugin architecture. The main body of the program dispatches work to the plugins that each reside in their own AppDomain. The plugins are described with an interface, which is used by the main program (to get the signature for invoking DispatchTaskToPlugin) and by the plugins themselves as an API contract: namespace AppServer.Plugin.Common { public interface IAppServerPlugin { void Register(); void DispatchTaskToPlugin(Task t); // Other methods omitted } } In the main body of the program Register() is called so that the plugin can register its callback methods with the base class, and then later DispatchTaskToPlugin() is called to get the plugin running. The plugins themselves are in two parts. There's a base class that implements the framework for the plugin (setup, housekeeping, teardown, etc..). It's only needed by the dispatcher in the main body of the program. How can I prevent the derived classes (Plugin) from seeing the method in the base class (BasePlugin/DispatchTaskToPlugin) but still have it visible from outside of the assembly? I can split hairs and have DispatchTaskToPlugin() throw an exception if it's called from the derived classes, but that's closing the barn door a little late. I'd like to keep it out of Intellisense or possibly have the compiler take care of this for me. Suggestions?

In some cases the result set is rather large so the menu fills the entire screen and sometimes has a down arrow to scroll the list. In a previous version of the code before switching to Dev Express, I was able to add TMenuBreak objects to make the list divide into columns. Is there a way to do this with Dev Express components?

• Need help optimizing this Django aggregate query

  I have the following model class Plugin(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) # more fields which represents a plugin that can be downloaded from my site. To track downloads, I have class Download(models.Model): plugin = models.ForiegnKey(Plugin) timestamp = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True) So to build a view showing plugins sorted by downloads, I have the following query: # pbd is plugins by download - commented here to prevent scrolling pbd = Plugin.objects.annotate(dl_total=Count('download')).order_by('-dl_total') Which works, but is very slow. With only 1,000 plugins, the avg. response is 3.6 - 3.9 seconds (devserver with local PostgreSQL db), where a similar view with a much simpler query (sorting by plugin release date) takes 160 ms or so. I'm looking for suggestions on how to optimize this query. I'd really prefer that the query return Plugin objects (as opposed to using values) since I'm sharing the same template for the other views (Plugins by rating, Plugins by release date, etc.), so the template is expecting Plugin objects - plus I'm not sure how I would get things like the absolute_url without a reference to the plugin object. Or, is my whole approach doomed to failure? Is there a better way to track downloads? I ultimately want to provide users some nice download statistics for the plugins they've uploaded - like downloads per day/week/month. Will I have to calculate and cache Downloads at some point? EDIT: In my test dataset, there are somewhere between 10-20 Download instances per Plugin - in production I expect this number would be much higher for many of the plugins.

Google Drive is well integrated with Google Docs and every document you create is automatically saved on Google Drive. Google Drive’s integration with other services like GMail may be in progress at Google, but enthusiastic community developers has released a plugin to integrate with GMail. The Google Chrome plugin “Gmail Attachments To Drive” lets you automatically save GMail attachments to Google Drive with a single click. Once the plugin is installed it adds a link “Save To Drive” next to each attachment displayed on GMail and on clicking, it automatically saves the files to Google Drive. I tested the plugin by saving attachments like PDFs, MS Word documents and Images to Google Drive and it worked very well.  I don’t have any complaints on the plugin except couple of feature requests. If the plugin can provide option “Save All Files To Drive” it will be very much helpful to save all attachment of an email at one shot. • Need help with testdisk output

  I had (note the past tense) an ubuntu 12.04 system with separate partitions for the base and /home directories. It started acting wonky, so I decided to do a reinstall with 12.10, intending just to do a reinstall to the base partition. After several seconds, I realize that the installer was repartitioning the drive and reinstalling, so I pulled the power cord. I'm now trying to recover as much as I can with testdisk, but it seems that testdisk is finding 100 unique partitions when I run it - they mostly tend to be HFS+ or solaris /home (which I think is just an ext4; I've never had solaris on the machine). I've pasted an abbreviated version of the testdisk output below (first ~100 lines, and then ~100 lines from the middle of the output). Is there a way to combine or recreate the partitions and then data recovery, or some other way maximize what I can recover (ideally as much of the file system as possible)? I really only care about what was in the /home directory - I'd rather not use photorec since I don't have another 2 TB HD lying around to recover to.   I will ask this with an example - I have installed gnash-plugin on fedora 64 bit with Yum. It pulled in following packages - Installing : agg-2.5-9.fc13.x86_64 1/6 Installing : gtkglext-libs-1.2.0-10.fc12.x86_64 2/6 Installing : boost-thread-1.44.0-7.fc14.x86_64 3/6 Installing : boost-date-time-1.44.0-7.fc14.x86_64 4/6 Installing : 1:gnash-0.8.8-4.fc14.x86_64 5/6 Installing : 1:gnash-plugin-0.8.8-4.fc14.x86_64 6/6 Now, I tested the plugin and I didn't like it. I want to remove all these above packages which got installed with the plugin as I don't longer going to need them. How can I do this? I checked remove-with-plugin for yum but it pulls in all the packages which are currently depending on the packages. I understand the thought process behind showing what packages are getting affected - but I am wondering if there is any way of looking at the history with what package got installed when I installed a certain package. When gnash-plugin wasn't there firefox was running fine with but after I installation firefox is now depends on this new plugin. Has any one worked on differentiating hard-dependencies(hard means the program will break if that package is not there) and soft-dependencies ( soft means the program may not get affected fatally) ?

  I am trying to install another linux distro besides ubuntu. However, I want to retain my existing windows based loader. Currently, as per my knowledge, MsDos loads grub which then loads Ubuntu (with loop back trick). Now, I have a new linux distro installed on /dev/sda8 (/boot for new distro) where as /root for that OS is installed on /dev/sda9. I tried following steps 1. • Mounting ddrescue image after recovery (in over my head)

  I'm having problems mounting the recovery image. I followed some online tutorial and have done these: sudo mkdir /media/FAT32 sudo chmod 777 /media/FAT32 sudo mount /dev/sda6/ /media/FAT32 after I mounted the file, I can only read but not be able to write to it. I checked the file permission, it becomes: drwxr-xr-x but after I unmounted the it then becomes drwxrwxrwx and I can read and write to it. very strange. I don't know where I've down wrong. Cheers.

  I'm currently trying to set up an unattended installation of Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) through preseeding. But whenever I try to create a custom partition scheme, the Debian installer (which Ubuntu is using) produces a faulty partition table. • Which linux distro for a laptop in windows environmet?

  I just got new laptop at work. What would you recommend as a linux distribution for it? All other developers are working under windows, and use windows tools. I'm currently using ArchLinux, but want to change it. I don't want to waste time configuring wireless, windows network shares, network pritners, projector, etc ... I want this stuff to just work, while still having sane and stable development evironment and tools. Is Ubuntu a good choice for this? I use gentoo at home, but don't think it is a good match for work environmet. EDIT: Note that we are working on cross platform apps, and deployment platform is almost always linux. There are very few windows apps that I have to use (like MS Project). It is just that everything else is windows centric. I use linux because I feel more productive with it, even if I have to dual boot to edit MS Project files.

  I'm trying to get wildcard DNS enabled on my laptop using dnsmasq. I realize that this has been asked and answered more than once on this forum, but I can't get the solution to work for me. Steps taken so far: Installed dnsmasq Set address=/example.dev/127.0.0.1 in dnsmasq.conf Set listen-address=127.0.0.1 in dnsmasq.conf Ensured nameserver 127.0.0.1 is in /etc/resolv.conf Set prepend domain-name-servers 127.0.0.1; in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf Created a vhost for example.dev Restarted apache and dnsmasq Note: example.dev is not set in /etc/hosts My vhost for example.dev <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.dev DocumentRoot /home/jkendall/public_html/example/public ServerAlias *.example.dev # This should be omitted in the production environment SetEnv APPLICATION_ENV development <Directory /home/jkendall/public_html/example/public> DirectoryIndex index.php AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> The setup above will server example.dev locally without any problem. It will also serve test.example.dev, but test.example.dev returns the default apache "It works!" index.html from /var/www rather than my index.php in /home/jkendall/public_html/example/public. The solution in this Server Fault thread suggests that address=/.example.dev/127.0.0.1 would resolve my problem, but when I try to use that solution, restarting dnsmasq results in a failure with the error message dnsmasq: error at line 62 of /etc/dnsmasq.conf For grins, I moved my project over to /var/www/example and modified the vhost appropriately. I got the same result as described above. At this point I'm not sure what other steps I can take to resolve the issue. Thoughts?

• LUKS with LVM, mount is not persistent after reboot

  I have created a Logical vol and used luks to encrypt it. But while rebooting the server. I get a error message (below), therefore I would have to enter the root pass and disable the /etc/fstab entry. So mount of the LUKS partition is not persistent during reboot using LUKS. I have this setup on RHEL6 and wondering what i could be missing. I want to the LV to get be mount on reboot. Later I would want to replace it with UUID instead of the device name. • Missing over 100GB of Space on sda1 RHEL

  I have a server setup with a RAID 5 using (3) 500GB drives, 1 as a spare so unused in the RAID. So in my mind i start out with 990GB with the RAID 5 in place. When looking at DF or the built in disk space utility i only see a total of about 882GB, how can i find where the 100+GB went? How can i get it back? I've checked the RAID 5 BIOS and i see all the space. I've tried looking manually and through terminal commands with no luck. • How can I log when reads to /dev/random block?

  I've noticed that since updating my server to Debian Squeeze the amount of entropy as reported by /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail is much lower than it was before the upgrade. I would like to know if this lower pool size is big enough to function with or if I need to look into getting more entropy sources. I think having a way to log blocking reads of /dev/random would show whether I have enough entropy or not.
