  • Trouble shooting openGL text textures not showing up correctly cross platform

    I have been tasked with solving a problem that is outside of my domain of knowledge and I was hoping I could get some troubleshooting advice from someone more experienced with openGL (I have very little experience with openGL). We are working on a cross platform application that is implemented in a common lisp implementation called ccl. In this application we have a need to display some 3D objects that display text. On the mac, all of the text displays fine but on the PC instead of displaying the text it displays some other texture. At first I thought that maybe the wrong texture was just being referenced so I tried changing the texture number but none of the textures in the list appeared to be the text (or if it was the texture was distorted and did not look like text). I know this problem is very vague and I am not looking for someone to post a solution, but I was wondering if people could suggest places I might look to try and get a handle on this issue.

  • Flex/Flash: Don't show 'bar' cursor when dragging over a TextField/TextArea?

    As the title suggests, how can I prevent the "bar" cursor from appearing when I click-and-drag over a TextField? For example, consider this interaction: I'd like to prevent the cursor changing to the "bar" in step "2". How can I do that?   • format - Help with printing a table

    This question will probably end in a facepalm, but I've tried for a while and am still stuck despite reading through the hyperspec. Basically what I want to do is something like (format t "~{|~{ ~5d~}|~%~}" '((1 23 2 312) (23 456 1 7890))) but instead of hard-coding the 5 it should be calculated from the list (length of longest element from any nested list + 1) to give something like | 1 23 2 312| | 23 456 1 7890| Maybe I'm thinking way too complicated here and there is an easier way to do what I want, but I think I ran myself into a mental corner that I can't get out of.

  • jquery mouseleave issue when moving too slow

    Hello. I am using the jQuery mouseenter and mouseleave events to slide a div down and up. Everything works well except for the mouseleave which doesn't appear to fire ONLY if the mouse of moved off of the div quite slowly. If i move the mouse at a relatively normal or fast speed then it works as expected. Can anyone explain this or provide any info on how to get around this?   • Edit Mode Delete Spinner Icon for Specific TableView Rows

    I have a grouped tableview. Each section has three rows. I need to be able to delete one section at a time. Using the standard edit mode, I can make it work. However, the delete icon shows up to the left of each cell, not just the first row in each section. Is there a way to suppress the little spinner icon for all rows except the first? I am hoping there is an easy way to do this without subclassing. Thanks for your help.   • Pass arguments to a parameter class object

    This is undoubtedly a simple question. I used to do this before, but it's been around 10 years since I worked in C++ so I can't remember properly and I can't get a simple constructor call working. The idea is that instead of parsing the args in main, main would create an object specifically designed to parse the arguments and return them as required. So: Parameters params = new Parameters(argc, argv) then I can call things like params.getfile() Only problem is I'm getting a complier error in Visual Studio 2008 and I'm sure this is simple, but I think my mind is just too rusty. What I've got so far is really basic: In the main: #include "stdafx.h" #include "Parameters.h" int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { Parameters params = new Parameters(argc, argv); return 0; } Then in the Parameters header: #pragma once class Parameters { public: Parameters(int, _TCHAR*[]); ~Parameters(void); }; Finally in the Parameters class: include "Stdafx.h" #include "Parameters.h" Parameters::Parameters(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { } Parameters::~Parameters(void) { } I would appreciate if anyone could see where my ageing mind has missed the really obvious.   • Why are C, C++, and LISP so prevalent in embedded devices and robots?

    It seems that the software language skills most sought for embedded devices and robots are C, C++, and LISP. Why haven't more recent languages made inroads into these applications? For example, Erlang would seem particularly well-suited to robotic applications, since it makes concurrent programming easier and allows hot swapping of code. Python would seem to be useful, if for no other reason than its support of multiple programming paradigms. I'm even surprised that Java hasn't made a foray into general robotic programming. I'm sure one argument would be, "Some newer languages are interpreted, not compiled" - implying that compiled languages are quicker and use fewer computational resources. Is this still the case, in a time when we can put a Java Virtual Machine on a cell phone or a SunSpot? (and isn't LISP interpreted anyway?)

  • Why is volatile not considered useful in multithreaded C or C++ programming?

    As demonstrated in this answer I recently posted, I seem to be confused about the utility (or lack thereof) of volatile in multi-threaded programming contexts. My understanding is this: any time a variable may be changed outside the flow of control of a piece of code accessing it, that variable should be declared to be volatile. Signal handlers, I/O registers, and variables modified by another thread all constitute such situations. So, if you have a global int foo, and foo is read by one thread and set atomically by another thread (probably using an appropriate machine instruction), the reading thread sees this situation in the same way it sees a variable tweaked by a signal handler or modified by an external hardware condition and thus foo should be declared volatile (or, for multithreaded situations, accessed with memory-fenced load, which is probably a better a solution). How and where am I wrong?

  • In a Visual Studio C++ project with /clr, are its dependencies also compiled to managed code?

If I have a Visual Studio C++ solution that has two projects, say a static library with CLR support turned off, and a second project with CLR support turned on that depends on this static library, does the static library get compiled as managed code? What about libraries that the CLR project uses that are external to this solution, do they also get compiled as managed code?

    I have a company that would like to bring me in to serve me an hour long exam. No resources other than a pencil and paper. I really couldn't get any sort of feedback on the type of exam (implementation or generic) beside that it would test a few specific areas. Have you done anything like this? What sort of questions did they ask? What's a good way to prepare? I'll probably go in a couple weeks before school starts back up. A time sensitive exam structure is a weak point for me, so what should I absolutely focus down on? If they like the exam, that's when I'll get a face-to-face meeting.   • ASP.NET, Visual Studio and Subversion - how to integrate?

    I use AnkhSVN and Visual Studio 2005 and 2008. Now, one thing that bugs me is that Ankh does not really work with ASP.NET sites. I cannot add them properly to a repository and it won't detect changes, especially because the site is on a remote server accessed through Frontpage Extensions (File = Open Site). What are the alternatives? Does a better plug-in exist? Manually downloading the files through FTP and using TortoiseSVN or svn.exe is not really the level of integration I want :) I want to stay within the Visual Studio IDE when possible. Also, I do not control the remote Server, so I can not install anything on it, which means the whole change tracking/comparison to repository has to be done on my machine.

    I have a column of product views in a database (e.g. top, bottom, front, back). I'm trying to generate a series of file inputs to allow the user to upload an image for each view. This is the result I'm after: ... <label>Top</label> <input type="file" name="image[Top]"><br> <label>Bottom</label> <input type="file" name="image[Bottom]"><br> <label>Front</label> <input type="file" name="image[Front']"><br> ... Hopefully you Rails experts can point me in the right direction. (I apologize in advance if I'm butchering Ruby.)

  • "Reloading" Bindings in Ninject2?

    I'm using Ninject2 for DI and I have a Module that loads data from a config file. I wonder if there is a way to tell the Kernel or the Module to reload the config? (I can trigger that through code if needed) What worries me is the lifetime of existing objects. Say I have ITest bound to TestImpl1 in Singleton Scope and I change the config to bind ITest to TestImpl2 instead. All new requests should get TestImpl2, but the classes that already requested TestImpl1 before obviously keep it. However, what if all users of TestImpl1 are gone - will TestImpl1 be properly garbage collected and disposed in case it implements IDisposable? Or will it just be orphaned? Do I have to loop through each type and call Unbind/Bind on it? Or can I just unload the entire Module and reload it while still managing any existing object?

    I'm developing Firefox extension and inside of javascript module have function which looks like this: var ajax = Cc["@mozilla.org/xmlextras/xmlhttprequest;1"].createInstance(); ajax.open('GET', url, true); ajax.onload = function () { if (ajax.readyState == 4 && ajax.status == 200) { ... } } ajax.onerror = function (e) { ... } The second call to this function always fires onerror immediately... then after that the next call is successful. What could be wrong... is it normal?

    I am fairly new to F#, but have spent the last few weeks reading reference materials. I wish to process a user-supplied input string, identifying and separating the constituent elements. For example, for this input: XYZ Hotel: 6 nights at 220EUR / night plus 17.5% tax the output should resemble something like a list of tuples: [ ("XYZ", Word); ("Hotel:", Word); ("6", Number); ("nights", Word); ("at", Operator); ("220", Number); ("EUR", CurrencyCode); ("/", Operator); ("night", Word); ("plus", Operator); ("17.5", Number); ("%", PerCent); ("tax", Word) ] Since I'm dealing with user input, it could be anything. Thus, expecting users to comply with a grammar is out of the question. I want to identify the numbers (could be integers, floats, negative...), the units of measure (optional, but could include SI or Imperial physical units, currency codes, counts such as "night/s" in my example), mathematical operators (as math symbols or as words including "at" "per", "of", "discount", etc), and all other words. I have the impression that I should use active pattern matching -- is that correct? -- but I'm not exactly sure how to start. Any pointers to appropriate reference material or similar examples would be great.

  • Using ASP.NET Redirect without string URL?

    For instance, what I have right now is the following: Page.Response.Redirect("Default.aspx", false); Needing to hardcode the string just seems odd to me. The Default.aspx page is already in my project. So is there a way to do the redirect something like the following: Page.Response.Redirect(Default.aspx, false); Where Default.aspx is just the web form. I'd think that this way it would be obvious if there was a problem such as you deleted the web form but didn't update the redirects. Is this possible? Or is there another way entirely I should be looking at this? I suppose I could do something with a static property on the class, but I am wondering if there is a built in thing for this?

  • Anyway to find out the current Windows is in lock mode?

    I have a windows application written in VS 2005. The application makes queries against to sql database in a timer cycle every 2 minutes. If there any data changes, the window will be refreshed with new data. If the user leaves the window, the windows will be automatically locked after a while. There is no sense to keep querying data in ever 2 minutes when the windows is locked; therefore I would like to stop the query when lock is on so that the network data trafic will be reduced and also saves the current windows resources such as memory and CPUs. I am not sure if there is any way to find out the current windows is locked? Not sure if there is any Windows APIs for this purpose if no .Net classes available? My project is in .Net 2.0 and all users are in Windows XP.
