• How to use Preprocessor directives in MVC aspx pages

  I am using MinifyJS.tt which is a T4 template to minify all my JS files automatically. In my aspx files, I am referencing all the javascript files. Now, I want to add a condition (maybe compiler directive) to use the original JS file when I am debugging the application, and to use the minified JS files when I simply run the application without debug. I tried using #if in the aspx page, but that did not seem to work. Can we make use of preprocessor directives in aspx pages? Is there an alternative way to achieve my goal?

• Windbg pseudoregister expansion

  Hi, I am trying to automate a device driver's debug session in Windows XP with Windbg. My device has an "index" register and a "data" register, both memory mapped. The index register must be filled with the internal register's index, and the value can be read from the data register. So, the followind Windbg command prints correctly the value of the internel register 0x4C: !ed [uc] 0xfa000000 0x4c; !dd [uc] 0xfa000004 L1 Now I would like to dump a range of internal registers, but it seems that the alias expansion doesn't work as expected in the !ed command. I am trying this cycle: .for (r $t0=0; @$t0<0x100; r $t0=@$t0+1) { !ed [uc] 0xfa000000 @$t0; !dd [uc] 0xfa000004 L1 } but it seems that the !ed command is ignored, as if @$t0 was expanded in an empty string. Tried "$t0", "@$t0", "${t0}" and "@${t0}", but without success. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance

• Packaging LAME.exe with a C# project

  Please forgive my noob-ness on this, but how do I package LAME.exe w/ a C# setup project? Currently, I have LAME being called like: //use stringbuilder to create arguments var psinfo = new ProcessStartInfo( @"lame.exe") { Arguments = sb.ToString(), WorkingDirectory = Application.StartupPath, WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden }; var p = Process.Start( psinfo ); p.WaitForExit(); This works in debug and release modes on the development machine, but when I create a setup project for this, it never creates the MP3. LAME and the compiled code reside in the same directory when installed. Help!

• Headless gem: webkit_server: cannot connect to X server

  I've got some problems running capybara-webkit with the Headless gem, Xvfb and our ci server. We use this setup for automatic integration testing and javascript testing of our Ruby on Rails 3.2 app. During the tests it complains that webkit_server: cannot connect to X server But when I ps aux | grep Xvfb deploy 1602 0.0 0.1 61696 1912 pts/2 S+ Jul10 0:00 /usr/bin/Xvfb :99 -screen 0 1280x1024x24 -ac I see the Xvfb running. If I run the tests with --trace it also only shows the error log above and I can't debug the error. Any ideas how I could get some more information, or even a solution?

• SharePoint People editor control - UpdatePanel postback issue

  Hi I've a people editor control inside an update panel. During postback, I need to update the value of people editor control based on some selection. Though the value is getting updated, it is not being persisted on postback. I can see the value being updated when I debug. All other controls inside the update panel are working fine and their values are updated on postback. I have read blogs that we need to set the style attribute "display:block" on postback, but that's not working for me. Any suggestions highly appreciated. Thanks

• Access event.target in IE8 unobstrusive Javascript

When I try to debug it with IE8 I get the error "Member not Found" on the line: targetElement = evt.srcElement; along with other subsequent errors, but I think this is the key line. Any help will be appreciated.

• Web Service in c# - "This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace."

  I've created a web service using Visual Studio ( 2005 - I know I'm old school ) and it all compiles fine but when it opens I get warned thus: This web service does not conform to WS-I Basic Profile v1.1. And furthermore: This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace. Which would be fine except my service begins thus: [WebService(Namespace = "http://totally-not-default-uri.com/servicename")] Searching the entire solution folder for "tempuri" returns nothing. I can't find it mentioned in any configuration page acessible from Visual Studio. And yet it's right there in the wsdl:definitions list for the xmlns:tns attribute on the web service descriptor page when I view it through the browser and as targetNamespace in the same tag. I'm viewing it using Visual Studio's "debug" mode with the built in server from that. Seems like something has got cached somewhere but I can't work out what and where- I've tried stopping and restarting the server, cleaning and rebuilding the service and going through the associated text config files with a text editor but no dice. Any idea what is going on?

• Can Log4net have multiple appenders write to the same file?

  I'm using a RollingFileAppender to log some info to a file with a conversionPattern (in the web.config) that looks like this for the header of each log section: <conversionPattern value="%date - %property{userId} - %property{method}%newline--------------------------------%newline%message%newline%newline"/> I'd like to log details under this header as bullet points. I'm currently trying to use another RollingFileAppender that logs to the same file with a simple conversionPattern of just a dash, like this: <conversionPattern value="- %message%newline"/> But these messages aren't making it into the log file. I'm using Log.Info() for the header and Log.Debug() for the bullet points and filtering each appender on their respective log levels. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Or is there a better way to get header and detail information into a log file from log4net?

• Force exceptions language in English

  My Visual Studio 2005 is a French one, installed on a French OS. All the exceptions I receive during debug or runtime I obtain also in French. Can I however do something that the exceptions messages be in English? For goggling, discussing etc. I tried the following: Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("en-US"); throw new NullReferenceException(); obtained Object reference not set to an instance of an object. This is, surely, cool... but, as I work on a French project, I will not hardcode forcing Thread.CurrentUICulture to English. I want the English change to be only on my local machine, and don't change the project properties. Is it possible to set the exceptions language without modifying the code of the application? • How to trace a raw (character) device stream on Unix ?

  I'm trying to trace what is transiting in a raw (character) device on an Unix system (ex: /dev/tty.baseband) for DEBUG purpose. I am thinking of creating a deamon that would: upon start rename /dev/tty.baseband to /dev/tty.baseband.old. create a raw node /dev/tty.baseband spawn two threads: Thread 1: reading /dev/tty.baseband.old writing into /dev/tty.baseband Thread 2: reading /dev/tty.baseband writing into /dev/tty.baseband.old This would work a little bit like a MITM process. I wonder if there is not a 'standard' way to do this.

• Server 2003 SP2 BSOD caused by fltmgr.sys

  I'm running into a problem where a Server 2003 SP2 box has started crashing roughly once an hour, BSODing out with the message that fltmgr.sys is probably the cause. I ran dumpchk.exe on the memory.dmp file, indicating the same thing. Any thoughts on typical root causes? • OutOfMemoryError calling XmlSerializer.Deserialize() - not related to XML size!

  This is a really crazy bug. The following is throwing an OutOfMemoryException, for XML snippits that are very short (e.g., <ABC def='123'/>) of one type, but not for others of the same size but a different type: (e.g., <ZYX qpr='baz'/>). public static T DeserializeXmlNode<T>(XmlNode node) { try { return (T)new XmlSerializer(typeof(T)) .Deserialize(new XmlNodeReader(node)); } catch (Exception ex) { throw; // just for catching a breakpoint. } } I read in this MSDN article that if I were using XmlSerializer with additional parameters in the constructor, I'd end up generating un-cached serializer assemblies every it got called, causing an Assembly Leak. Could it be that the string A::getString() returns is being allocated in A.dll and freed in main.exe? If so, why - and what would be a safe way to pass strings between DLLs (or executables, for that matter)? Without using wrappers like shared_ptr with a custom deleter.

  I'm programming in C and using Source Insight. I have an enum type with a lot of constants (like 100). I have debug prints that print out variable values, but they (of course) print out as integers. What I'd like to do is click on the name of an enum constant, and see its numeric value displayed somewhere. (I've seen this done in a Visual Studio plugin, so it must be possible.) That is, assume I have enum colors { ORANGE, PURPLE, PINK }; I want to click on (or select, or something) PURPLE and see the value 1 somewhere visible (ideally, the symbol window or context window, but I'm not particular). Is there an easy way to do this in Source Insight? Is there a difficult way, at least (such as writing a macro)?

• Why does GANTracker outputs an error "GANTracker.m" not found?

  Hi, I have used the Google Analytics Tracker in a previous iPhone OS project. Everything was working fine and I copy & pasted the GANTracker Library and the Tracker initialization. When starting my new project it tells me: Xcode could not locate source file: GANTracker.m (line: 177) To tell the truth, I don't know where to start to debug this one. I have included the library using #import "GANTracker.h". The error message occurs right within the application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions and does not seem to have any connection to what is really going on. If I set the breakpoint to [window makeKeyAndVisible]; for example and wait a second, it occurs right after that. That makes it look like there is something in the background going on with the GANTracker. The Tracker itself is created a little later by: [[GANTracker sharedTracker] startTrackerWithAccountID:@"xx" dispatchPeriod:10 delegate:nil]; [[GANTracker sharedTracker] trackPageview:@"pageview" withError:nil]; Thank you all in advance for your help!

• Debugging segfault on swig/python/c++

  I am trying to figure out what the best way to debug a segault with swig/python/c++. A core file is being generated. I have a basic MessageFactory(defined in c++ that provides a simple interface to accept a few strings as input and return a string as output). This interface is then specified in a .i file. swig is used to generate Wrapper.cpp as well as a MessageFactory.py from the .i file. This along with supporting files is compiled into a dynamic lib. The point of failure , is when the MessageFactory is instantiated within python code. Any suggestions on how I can go about debugging this? I've tried running the script within pdb, what I know from that is import on the generated MessageFactory.py is whats causing the seg-fault.

Do I need to manually deep copy? • Setting a breakpoint in a T4 template

  I'm trying to debug the execution of a T4 template in Visual Studio 2008. All the information I'm finding on debugging T4 templates in Visual Studio 2008 say that you can set a breakpoint (red dot) in the template as if it were a regular code file. I have the Clarius T4 code highlighter installed, so my T4 template is colored, but I can't set a breakpoint. When I click in the margin nothing happens. I've tried Debugger.Break(), and it launches a new instance of VS.NET, but it can't load the code from my template. I get a dialog that says "There is no source code available for the current location." This happens if I have the same project loaded in the another instance of if I spin up a new instance. What gives?

• VB.net Edit-And-Continue: ignore "unable to apply this change while debugging"

  When using VB.Net (2008) and paused in debugging, Edit-And-Continue is a great time-saver. However if you change any module/class-level information (variable, sub/function signature, etc), you get the error message like this: "unable to apply this change while debugging" While I can understand the technical challenge to making this work (and why it would be hard), it leaves me in a tight spot with just a few options: 1) Restart and recompile and get the program back to the same state 2) Continue debugging without making the change, and risk forgetting 3) Type up a reminder note to make the change All of which are annoying. Now I know that option '4) Just actually make the change' may not be possible. but does anybody know how to enable the following 'technically easy' possibility? 4) Let me change the code, get it flagged with the purple squiggly underline, so I can save it, but just ignore the change until recompile I have checked the Tools|options|debug|edit and continue, nothing appears to let me do this. thanks!

The problem is: I can see in the debug the right reading of the russian and the right reading of the english, but using myWord = myWord.Replace(ruChar, enChar), the string is not replaced.   Okay, I realize there are many questions relating to this error, I have read several questions and answers without resolving my problem. I have a MVC site that I'm trying to debug on local IIS web server. I check the option to use local IIS in the project properties and I've created a virtual directory in IIS. The error I get in Visual Studio is: Unable to start debugging on web server. In IIS i try browse the site but get the error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions Config File \?\C:\Users\Mike\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\MvcApplication1\MvcApplication1\web.config I've set permissions for the pool identity on the web.config and whole project folder. I've tried localsystem identity, no luck! Please help me resolve this. I've spent several hours trying to fix this.
