How to modify the HTML and BODY tags in an ASP.NET page without adding runat=server to the elements?

In an ASP.NET web forms project that is not quite ready to be upgraded from 2.0 to 4.0 , there is a change that needs to be made to allow modifications to the HTML and BODY tags on the pages without adding runat=server to the tags which results in the 2.0 styled "ugly ids" like "ctrl_100..." For example, how could we change these using JavaScript, a Response Filter (the regex to find these specific tags would really help on this one), or something else...from: <html xmlns="//www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <body> To: <html lang="jp=JP" xmlns="//www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="rtl"> <body dir="rtl"> JavaScript seems like a possibility, but functions from the server-side could would determine the language and direction the page should have.

Move Global.asax to iHttpModule when using ASP.NET MVC

I have successfully created an iHttpModule to replace my Global.asax file in many Web Forms applications. But in looking at the Global.asax file in my MVC application, the methods are totally different. I'm wondering if it is still possible to create this same thing in an MVC app. I know it's not necessary and the Global.asax works just fine. I suppose I just want to have nothing but the web.config in the root directory of my application. Also, I am putting all of my classes in a separate class library project instead of a folder in my MVC application. Not sure if this makes a difference or not.

Autocomplete with Django, jQuery and google app engine

Hey guys, I'm new to Django and jQuery, but I have a lot of python experience. I'm basically trying to write an HTML form, with one text box for now, that as you type in it, shows you auto completion options. this will be used for finding restaurants, and I intend to use the Yelp API for that. can someone please point me out in a direction of a tutorial on how to do this - specifically with regards to the Django / HTML / jQuery rather than how to work with the Yelp API? Are there any tutorials I should read? All tutorials I have found are very basic ones that build forms from the Django data models.. Thanks!

Parent Page becomes ‘frozen’ in Safari after commandLink with target=“_blank” is pressed in JSF 1.2

On my webpage when i press command link its opening a new page perfectly on IE7/Firefox 3/Chrome/Safari 4.0.4 but after this none of the parent page's command buttons are not working ,this happens only in safari.I am using JSF 1.2 mojara. For performance tests I need a way to measure the time needed for a form to load its definition from the DFM. All existing forms inherit a custom form class. To capture the current time, this base class needs overriden methods as "extension points": start of the deserialization process after the deserialization (can be implemented by overriding the Loaded procedure) the moment just before the execution of the OnFormCreate event So the log for TMyForm.Create(nil) could look like: - 00.000 instance created - 00.010 before deserialization - 01.823 after deserialization - 02.340 before OnFormCreate Which TObject (or TComponent) methods are best suited? Maybe there are other extension points in the form creation process, please feel free to make suggestions.

Getting all types from an assembly derived from a base class

I am trying to examine the contents of an assembly and find all classes in it that are directly or indirectly derived from Windows.Forms.UserControl. I am doing this: Assembly dll = Assembly.LoadFrom(filename); var types = dll.GetTypes().Where(x => x.BaseType == typeof(UserControl)); But it is giving an empty list because none of the classes directly extend UserControl. I don't know enough about reflection to do it quickly, and I'd rather not write a recursive function if I don't have to.

Determite when and which a character added or deleted to/from a Text Box.

I have a simple text box in a WPF application. I need to know when a character was added/deleted in the text box, which character and where it was added or deleted. I thought to use the TextBox.KeyDown event, but it has some problems: I can't know where the character was added or deleted. I have no idea how to determite which character was added (from the KeyEventArgs). Any ideas? I don't care to use a completely different solution from what I thought. In addition, I've just started this project so I don't care to use Windows Forms instead of WPF if your solution requires it. Thank you.

url rewriting + Asp.Net Login Form = Death

Hi, on our site we do url rewriting to generate massive amounts of database generated pages. on every page, there is a Login control for users. like this: Internal aspx page: /DB.aspx?id=123 User visible url: /ABC/123.aspx, /ABC/456.aspx ... (url rewritten) unfortunately, the tag on each page has an action attribute of "DB.aspx?id=123". when the user clicks the button the browser is posting to /ABC/DB.aspx?id=123 which of course does not exist. solutions i tried: 1. change the action attribute by subclassing HtmlForm. this destroys the all other forms on the site. 2. remove the action attribute (so that the browser is always posting to the same url). this works on the rewritten pages but on "/" (the default.aspx in the root dir) i get a message that the verb post is not allowed on "/" (iis 6 and i have no control over mappings) anybody?

I need a solution where I have a single windows service providing access to cached data to various consumers: To an MVC web application, a .Net Assembly (COM interop) used within an classic ASP page, other windows services, a windows forms application. So the data must be accessible from various processes. The data being cached is read-only. For now, all processes are located on the same machine. The environment is .net framework 3.5 and c#. My question is, how can multiple appdomains/processes retrieve cached data from a single windows service?

How to validate a form reCaptcha in MVC C#

I have a page that contains several forms, by submitting each one of them, next form becomes visible. the last form contains a recaptcha validator, my problem starts here, if i declare an action result for that page like this [CaptchaValidator] public ActionResult myAction(SomeModel model, string lang) { return View("towing", model); } I'm getting an argument null exeption parameter "Challenge", which in fact means that you have to POST those fields from recaptcha for the validation to appear and I cannot post anyting untill the last for is visible and posted. then I've added a news ActionResult like myActionValidated, defined a route for it like: mypage/validate pointing to that actionresult and then i don't know where to go from here, i want simply do display a message if the reCaptcha did not validate and redirect to a URL if it succeeded. I hope I made myself clear. Thank you in advance

This question is related to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3027705/experiences-with-language-converters I just can tell I searched the web for quite a few days but hardly found anything about somewhat "proper" test in access. I found some framworks like accessunit but that's Unit testing, what abouut the forms? What about the different reports etc. A counter-example in "testing" is e.g the rails or Seaside or Smalltalk area. Where testing is thought of as integral part. But I have not found anything comparable for Access based solutions. Maybe some of you know better?

I would like to create a method that takes as a argument an event an adds eventHandler to it to handle it properly. How practical to change MVC app from traditional authentication to cookieless?

I have an application written in MVC that uses your regular .Net Forms Authentication. There's nothing particularly new or exciting going on with it. My client has now asked that users be able to log in to the app on the same machine but in different browsers, or different tabs within the same browser. To my mind, he's asking for a scope change to have authentication moved to cookieless instead of its current design. Not having had any experience with doing this in MVC, I'm curious to know before I get started how much hurt I'm in for by trying this. Are there better ways to do it? What should I consider? Any advice appreciated.

How to disable WM6.5.3 gestures?

I am working on a .NET 2.0 application targetting the WM5 SDK, what is the correct way to disable the gesture functionality when running on a WM6.5.3 device that only affects the forms I am using? This is causing an issue when I have a signature capture control inside a tab control - when the signature is entered it's quite common for the tab control to switch tabs as WM6.5.3 picks it up as a gesture. I don't want to disable the gesture functionality device wide, nor can I upgrade the application to target the WM6.5.3 SDK as it still needs to work on older devices. Cheers

How do I access a DIV from javascript when using a master page?

I have a web page that contains a "div" element. On the page, there is javascript to reference the div: document.getElementById('divId'). This was working fine until another developer redesigned the page to use an ASP master page. Now, document.getElementById('divId') returns null. It appears that ASP.net prepends some characters to the names of elements within contents forms when you use a master page. How can I know what the id of the div is when the page loads? Update Allow me to give a specific example to clarify the question: My page had a div with ID divNotice. After changing my page to use a master page, I see when I print the source to the page that renders that the div ID is ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_divNotice. My question is, how am I supposed to know what the div ID is going to be when the framework is done with it?

Make Directory.GetFiles() ignore protected folders

Hello Everyone, I'm using the Directory.GetFiles() method to get a list of files to operate on. This method throws an UnauthorizedAccessException for example when trying to access a protected folder. I would like it to simply skip over such folders and continue. How can I accomplish this with either Directory.GetFiles (preferably) or another method? Update: Here is the code that throws the exception. I am asking the user to select a directory and then retrieving the list of files. I commented out the code (so this is now whole method) that iterates through the files and the problem still occurs. The exception is thrown on the Directory.GetFiles() line. What to do with a big image that's slowing website loading down significantly

Hi I'm working on a website that's already been designed by someone else. The designer has used a big image (900x700 100KB) which contains a big logo right across the top, then the background for two columns. This image loads every time a page is loaded as it forms the basis for the website. What should I do with it to improve loading time? I'm considering splitting it up into two or more images, especially the logo on the top. Does splitting up images like that decrease loading time in any significant way? Thanks -edit: Also, all the images are .jpg, would changing this to .gif or .png help anything?

android browser downloadfile.bin (wordpress cf7)

i got a little problem with a wordpress site that uses contact form 7 and android browser (at least android v1.5). when a user submits the cf7 form (using ajax followed by a js redirect) and tries to return to the forms page later (using the back button as well as opening the form's url) the download prompt for a 'downloadfile.bin' appears. this behavior can not be reproduced on any other mobile or desktop browsers. could anyone shed some light on this issue? thank you in advance!

Taking web page screen shot in Windows 8 Metro app

I'm trying to take screen shot of web page in Windows 8 Metro app. So far the only helpful control is the WebView. Unfortunately it does not contain any method like DrawToBitmap (known from Forms WebBrowser control). Am I missing something? Different approach would focus on injecting some JS (e.g. html2canvas) to page rendered in WebView but I don't think it is possible due to security reasons. I would greatly appreciate any help.

WinForms ToolTip will not re-appear after first use.

I have a Forms C# application where I would like to use a toolTip on one of the text boxes. I Initialize the tool-tip in the constructor of the Form class, and it works the first time. So when I hover over the text box with my mouse it works, but once the toolTip times out and it goes away, it does not re-appear when I move my mouse away and back onto the control. I would expect it to come back and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. Arrays in javascript, how can i learn manipulating it?

I've read alot about the core implementation of arrays in javascript and often i find that experimenting is the best way to learn, Right now i have multiple forms where you can type in different things, i want to be able to pull the value of each one and put it in an array so that i can later on read them in in a dynamically created div.. Can anyone point me in the right direction? There is a way i could get around this and that would be by using just one form, and pulling the text from there seperated by comas (,).. the thing is that i don't have the knowledge to pull the text form the form, search and find the comas, then make a new variable i think is neccessary, and read that in.. i know how to "think" javascript, not how to write it.. how do i learn the easiest/fastest way?

New line or Carraige Return syntax problems

Im pretty new to coding, heres my problem. Results->Text = "G55 > Y" + System::Convert::ToString(destY); "Results" is a System.Windows.Forms.Textbox "multiline btw", or so says VS. That line works fine, but i need a "new line or CR" at the end, so that i can repeat that line with different Literals and a different var in ToString. For days now ive tried different syntax's ive read about, and i cant get it to take any of them. Or even a complete different way to input text into Results-Text that would allow for tidy multiline use. Sidenote: since im using -Text and System::Convert::ToString in VC, would this code be considered just c++ or .net or CLI? to tighten my searches.
