  • How to prevent VS copy .pdb files

    Hi, i set the cache symbols from symbol servers to directory to D:\WebSymbols, but whenever i use VS2008 attach to process to debug, the VS2008 will copy the .pdb to the location of the attached process, and i also found many .pdb in the Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\sym. is there any way to prevent VS copying the .pdb files? thanks in advance!

    Hi, Often I find myself coming across code like this: try { StreamWriter strw = new StreamWriter(); } However, there is no reference to the object outside the scope of the try block. How could I refactor (extract to field in Visual Studio says there is no field or something) the statement in the try block so that it is declared above the try block so I can use it anywhere in the method?     Hello I have a project that uses the Enterprise Library 4.1. When I target .net 4 and compile, I get an error that says I need to add a reference to System.ServiceModel version 3. My reference is to System.ServiceModel version 4. How can I tell Visual Studio 2010 to reference a .net3 assembly from a .net3 project? Or, does somebody have a workaround for this issue? I am using the RTM version of VS2010 Thanks

    I was trying to create a new Class Library project targeted for the .NET Compact Framework. However, when I select "New project - Smart Device" I only have the Smart Device Project template. I've checked the folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\SmartDevice\1033 It contains several project templates: SmartDeviceClassLibrary SmartDeviceConsoleApplication SmartDeviceEmptyProject SmartDeviceWindowsApplication SmartDeviceWindowsControlLibrary None of those are shown on my IDE. How can I use one of those project templates?

  • WCF: 'Update Service Reference' hoses my files.

    Every time that I make a change to the contract of my WCF service, I need to have Visual Studio update the service references in all of my client projects. This process regenerates my client's app.config file and, since I have hand-tuned the "bindings" section of the file, I need to back-up my file and then restore it each time I have VS do the update. Is there a way to avoid this necessity (eg: have VS update the service reference without rewriting anything in app.config)? Thanks

  • Visual studio winform designer shows design errors as text rather than html

    All of the sudden, visual studio displays designer errors as plain html text, for example: <DIV id="div1" class="ErrorStyle" width="100%"><span style="font-weight: 600"><br>Object reference not set to an instance of an object. </span><br><a href="" instead of displaying the usual html formatted. I haven't been able to find anything similar to it on google. Before getting this problem, when I tried opening the winform designer, I would get the run/save/cancel dialog of internet explorer for a .tmp file, instead of the designer window. That went away when I found out that I had notepad assigned to the .tmp file type and removed that. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • VC++ libcurl .lib size

    I'm having an issue with the size of the .lib when I compile libcurl. It's 1.6 MB and the sample program they have is alround 300 KB. I downloaded the latest version (curl-7.20.0) and opened the project file from the lib directory in visual studio 2008. In the project properties I set /MT and compiled a release build. I even tried adding HTTP_ONLY to the processor which didn't seem to affect anything. What's going on?

    ok, so I ran into problems with Boost under visual studio 2010, so I decided to rebuild it with bjam: such as: bjam --toolset=msvc-10.0 --build-type=complete After running bjam (successfully?) it created a new directory under boost_1_42_0 called: bin.v2 Inside bin.v2 is directory called: libs. Two issues: 1. there's lot less libs under that new directory (about 13), the old directory libs has 88. Is it supposed to be like that or did something fail? 2. the structure is somewhat different too. What do I do with this exactly? Meaning, do I copy it over to the original libs, delete the old libs, try rebulding it with different flags?

    I'm trying to develop a simple application that will read some files, targeted for Windows CE. For this I'm using Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 3. This program(that is for console) will be called like this: /Storage Card/Test coms file.cmss As you can see, file.cmss is the first argument, but on my main I have a condition to show the help(the normal, how to use the program) if the arguments are smaller than 2: if(argc < 2) { showhelp(); return 0; } But when I execute the program on the command-line of Windows CE(using all the necessary arguments) I got the showHelp() content. Then I've checked all the code, but it's entirelly correct. But I think that eVC++ don't use argc and argv[] for arguments, then I want some help on how to determine the arguments on it.

  • Possible to use Python with Intel's Atom Developer SDK (C/C++)?

    So I've made a game in Python and PyGame. Now I'm interested in submitting the game to Intel's March Developer Challenge. However, the developer challenge requires use of Intel's Atom Developer SDK (http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/sdk), which only has API's for C and C++. I'm new to Python and PyGame, and have no experience in C or C++. My question is, would it be possible to somehow implement Intel's Atom SDK through/with/from a Python application (as the first link above suggests)? I've read up a little bit on embedding/extending Python into/with C, but I'm not entirely sure what to embed or where. I mean, I know I can do things like this in C: #include <Python.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { Py_Initialize(); PyRun_SimpleString("from time import time,ctime\n" "print 'Today is',ctime(time())\n"); Py_Finalize(); return 0; } But what do I do about all my dependencies on Python and Pygame, for people that don't have those installed on their machines? Normally Py2Exe takes care of compacting the required dependencies (I've managed to package my game into an exe/zip), but how do I take care of that stuff in the context of embedding within C? Can I somehow work with py2exe on this, or do I need to do something entirely different for embedding within C? It seems like it would be a lot easier to go the route of extending Python with the C validation code, rather than trying to embed my whole game within C, but I think that's not an option, "because the library provided is currently only available as a Visual Studio 2008 '.lib'", meaning the application has to be compiled with Visual Studio...? Any help, thoughts, or ideas are much appreciated!     Is there a way I can ask Visual source safe to get all the files from a given date for a project? We don't use labels, so I can't roll back to a specific label and am hoping that I can somehow just call a certain date range to get the files as they existed on a specific date? Impossible?
