  • How to force visual styles when using .NET forms Interop from VB6

    I have created a VB.NET Class Library that exposes some COM Interop sub routines. These in turn show various forms that are contained within the Class Library. When the forms are shown from VB6 they do not inherit the visual styles of the operating system and act like VB6 controls. I gather that this probably by design but is there some way to force/control visual styles manually in the .NET assembly? I would imagine that if I use a manifest in my VB6 app then everything will use the correct style but I would like to be able to control this myself if possible because we are using 3rd party controls in VB6 that do not require a manifest.

    I am developing visual game level editor in c++. For this I want reflection(RTTI) mechanism to know class attributes at runtime. I am currently using PDB files for this.But using PDB I couldn't retrieve actual code line for extra information in commented format which is given for that attribute. Visual studio uses NCB files for intelligence. So will it be better idea to use NCB instead PDB? If yes,How to retrieve information from NCB files? Is there any SDK like DIA SDK?

Is there any way possible to use any custom dialogs in Visual Studio SetUp Project ? For ex: Whenever i start my setup, a dialog should be shown to the user prompting him to select a language for installation.     Hi I'm somewhat of a newbie to python and I'm using app engine and aptanna studio - I need to run some python shell commands so that i can complete the tasks in this Tutorial on how to set up 118 and django. I have got this all working but i don't understand how i run the python commands to compile the dictionarys such as $ PYTHONPATH=/path/to/googleappengine/python/lib/django/ /path/to/googleappengine/python/lib/django/django/bin/make-messages.py -a To be honest - why am i saying that! I dont know where in aptanna studio i run this command -then worse I don't quite understand what exactly i type based on the above command line. My path to google app engine is D:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\ Can anyone help shed some light on how i do this from aptanna / the root of my project??     I just started using RJS which is awesome however I am used to putting visual effects in the link_to_remote and such and I'm not sure how to trigger actions before and after remotes are triggered.     I have a base class for all my textboxes and I want to set the default font in that class. So I started with this: public partial class MyTextBox : TextBox { public WmlTextBox() { InitializeComponent(); //Font for the whole application can be altered in the Appearance class Font = new Appearance().TextBoxFont; } } I then stripped out all the code in the form that was setting the font of the textboxes. Of course this worked fine until I altered an item on the page. Visual Studio picked up the default font for the application (set in the Appearance class), and generated code in the designer for all TextBoxes to set it to that specific font. How can I stop visual studio from generating code from my default font? I want to allow the developers to change the property, but I want to set the default font centrally.

    I'm using visual studio 2008 and I've created a stored procedure that selects back two different result sets. I drag the stored proc on to a linq to sql dbml datacontext class, causing visual studio to create the following code in the cs file: [Function(Name="dbo.List_MultiSelect")] public ISingleResult<DataAccessLayer.DataEntities.List_MultiSelectResult> List_MultiSelect() { IExecuteResult result = this.ExecuteMethodCall(this, ((MethodInfo)(MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod()))); return ((ISingleResult<DataAccessLayer.DataEntities.List_MultiSelectResult>)(result.ReturnValue)); } Shouldn't the designer generate the code to use IMultipleResults? Or do I have to hand code that?

    I am trying to use Beyond Compare for Visual Diff in TortoiseHg. eg Right click on a modified file in explorer and select Visual Diff from TortoiseHg context menu... BeyondCompare opens but only shows the 'welcome' screen and not the file I want to diff. Am I missing something?   • Boost Filesystem Library Visual C++ Compile Error

    I'm having the following issue just trying to compile/run some of the example programs with the Boost Filesystem Library. I'm using MS-Visual C++ with Visual Studio .NET (2003). I've installed the Boost libraries, version 1.38 and 1.39 (just in case there was a version problem) using the BoostPro installers. If I just try to include /boost/filesystem/operations.hpp I receive the following error: \boost_1_38\boost\system\error_code.hpp(230) : error C2039: 'type' : is not a member of 'boost::enable_if<boost::system::is_error_condition_enum<Cond,boost::detail::enable_if_default_T>' Any help is greatly appreciated.   • Using the C Cluster library in Visual C++.

    Right so i'm trying to use a C library in C++, never actually done this before i thought it would be a case of declaring the header includes under a extern "C" and setting the compile as flag to "default" but i'm still getting linker errors and think that the header file might have to be complied as a DLL. I have no idea really. Is it the library that's the problem or is it me? There are some make files in the cluster-1.47\src, but i don't know how or if they relate to "cluster.h".     I would like to create extend a Java Swing application to have a look somewhat similar to an IDE such as Eclipse or Visual Studio. That’s, there would be a panel at the left that displays a tree, and a tab panel on the right that allows several elements of the tree to be opened and edited on right. For this I could easily use a BorderLayout and just use the center and left areas. However, I would also like to have the ability for the user to drag the border between these two panels, just like Eclipse and Visual Studio allow. I can think of several ways to do this, but was curious if anyone had found a particularly good way to do this, or knew of an example. I’ve googled for it, but have not found anything.

  • Stored proc in .net dataset class vs studio management

    Morning all. Got myself a simple query which returns ten rows in SQL Server Management Studio. I call the stored proc by right clicking it and feeding in the parameters. The results are returned immediately. In .NET we have set up a dataset class, added a table adapter whose select is this same procedure. I pass in the very same parameters and the execution times out after the standard 30 seconds. It continues to run immediately when called in sql server management studio. Any ideas why the execution time is seemingly infinite in the .net dataset class. The query is very simple.

  • Best way to do TDD in express versions of visual studio(eg VB Express)

    I have been looking in to doing some test driven development for one of the applications that I'm currently writing(OLE wrapper for an OLE object). The only problem is that I am using the express versions of Visual Studio(for now), at the moment I am using VB express but sometimes I use C# express. Is it possible to do TDD in the express versions? If so what are the bast was to go about it? Cheers. EDIT. By the looks of things I will have to buy the full visual studio so that I can do integrated TDD, hopefully there is money in the budget to buy a copy :). For now I think I will use Nunit like everyone is saying.

  • Variable pre-fixes, Visual Studio 2010 onwards?

    I'm a bit bewildered on this subject, as I relate variable prefixes to being a thing of the past now, but with Visual Studio 2010 onwards (I'm currently using 2012), do people still do this and why? I only ask because, these days, you can hover over any variable and it'll tell you the variable type and scope. There's literally no requirement for pre-fixing being there for readability. By this I mean: string strHello int intHello etc. And I'm being language/tool biased here - as Visual Studio takes a lot of the legwork out for you in terms of seeing exactly what type the variable is, including after conversions in the code. This is not a "general programming" question.

  • Cannot create a project TFS 2012 - TF218027

    I've just installed TFS2012 and am trying to create a new project in the default collection via Visual Studio 2012 but I keep getting this error message: TF218027: The following reporting folder could not be created on the server that is running SQL Server Reporting Services: /TfsReports/DefaultCollection. The report server is located at: http://<servername>/Reports. The error is: The permissions granted to user '<domain>/grandmasterflush' are insufficient for performing this operation.. Verify that the path is correct and that you have sufficient permissions to create the folder on that server and then try again. I've checked the permissions and my user is a member of the Project Collection Administrators and the Project Collection Administrators group has the 'Create new project' permission set to allow. The only thing I think it might be is that the user that I created during installation for the Sharepoint access and reports viewing does not have permission to write to the reports folder, however if I select "Do not configure a SharePoint site at this time" then I still get the error messages. I can't find the reports folder to check the permissions either. TFS is using an instance of SQL 2012 that was already on the machine when TFS was installed. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong please?

  • Installer not being updated ( probably because of Windows 7 file cache )

    I'm creating an installer for my Visual FoxPro application using ISTool and Inno Setup. It is ok for me for the first time. But, I updated my code and re-built the EXE file. Then, compiled the installer again. I found that my update was not compiled into the installer and I did not see the update in my running application. I noticed that the EXE file, which was built by VFP, was updated properly. It seems the installation script did not output the updated file. But, when I changed folder names, it did work. I don't want to change folder names whenever I run that installation script. It is not a good idea actually. I think it is because of Windows 7 cache system. Mine is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1. For example, My previous output file is located at C:\path\to\myinstaller.exe When I compile the installation script, the output file there should be overwritten, but it was not as expected. Although I deleted the file, it did not work. When I changed to output file path as C:\newpath\to\myinstaller.exe, I got the fix, but it is not a solution what I'm looking for. Does anyone how to do that? [Edit] I found that the installed directory was not updated properly. For example, I installed the program to C:\Program files\MyInstalledApp When I run the installer again, that installation directory should be overwritten, but failed. Thus, I got to uninstall the app before I re-install it. Is there any fix for this?

  • How do I stop MSYS from transforming my compiler options?

    Is there a way to stop MSYS/MinGW from transforming what it thinks are paths on my command lines? I have a project that's using nmake & Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 (yeecccch). I have the build system all ported and ready to go for GNU make (and tested with Cygwin). Something weird is happening to my compiler flags when I try to compile in an MSYS environment, though. Here's a simplified example: $ cl /nologo Microsoft (R) 32-bit C/C++ Optimizing Compiler Version 13.10.6030 for 80x86 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. /out:nologo.exe C:/msys/1.0/nologo LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'C:/msys/1.0/nologo.obj' As you can see, MSYS is transforming the /nologo compiler switch into a windows path, and then sending that to the compiler. I really don't want this to happen - in fact I'd be happy if MSYS never transformed any paths - my build system had to take care of all that when I first ported to Cygwin. Is there a way to make that happen? It does work to change the command to $ cl -nologo Which produces the expected results, but this build system is very large and very painful to update. I really don't want to have to go in and change every use of a / for a flag to a -. In particular, there may be tools that don't support the use of the - at all, and then I'll really be stuck. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Eclipse: Slow startup time

    Hello, I've got Eclipse 3.6.1 on my MacBook Air (2010), and I'm getting slowish startup times. Well, slow, compared to my Desktop, which is somewhat less powerful and a few years old). The startup generally takes 15 seconds, and of this, 4 is spent just on the Eclipse splash screen, before Eclipse loads anything. No projects are open at startup. I'm running Eclipse 3.6.1 Cocoa x64 build (vanilla) with the Zend Studio plugin. The machine has 4GB RAM, an SSD with over 64% free space, 1.6GHz (4MB L2 Cache). OS is Mac OS X 10.6.6, latest Java available, 1.6. For comparison, my Desktop, an old P4 3GHZ (512K L2 Cache) with a 7200RPM drive, under 40% free space, Eclipse (same config) loads in under 7 seconds, consistently. Note, this one is a Windows machine, with latest Java installed.
