  Possible Duplicate: For Programmers familiar with ACM API? Drawing Initials I came across an exercise (in the book "The Art and Science of Java" by Eric Roberts) that requires using only GArc and GLine classes to create a lettering library which draws your initials on the canvas. This should be made independent of the GLabel class. I'd like to know the correct approach to use in solving this problem. I'm not sure what I have so far is good enough (I'm thinking it's too long). The questions requires that I use a good Top-Down approach. They are positioned in certain ways thereby turning certain Glines and/or GArcs on or off (changing visiblity) would create a pattern for a letter. This Gletter uses the if/else statements to determine which pattern to create - this makes me feel my code is too long. There is another class (DrawInitials.java) that simulates a GraphicsProgram and allows the user to pass certain letters as arguments to the GLetter object. I've used 'L' and 'O' as examples. However, I posted this because I'm not sure I'm using the right approach. That's why I need your help. I feel MY CODE IS TOO LONG! The code above is not the complete project...it only draws letters 'L' and 'O' for now.

• Unable to add host running ubuntu for nagios monitoring?

  I am unable to add ubuntu server in nagios monitoring. I am getting "CHECK_NRPE: Socket timeout after 40 seconds." error for few services "CPU Load, Cron File Check, Current Users, Disk Check, NTP Daemon, Time Check, Total Processes, Zombie Processes". Please find the snapshot for the same below, Details: Installed nrpe plugin in ubuntu host. On running the below command from remote host running ubuntu (not nagios server) am getting the following output, root@ubuntu-cacher:~# /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H localhost NRPE v2.13 But in nagios server i am getting "CHECK_NRPE: Socket timeout after 40 seconds." error. • Is Java free/open source or not?

  On November 13, 2006, Sun released much of Java as free and open source software, (FOSS), under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). On May 8, 2007, Sun finished the process, making all of Java's core code available under free software/open-source distribution terms, aside from a small portion of code to which Sun did not hold the copyright. OpenJDK (Open Java Development Kit) is a free and open source implementation of the Java programming language. It is the result of an effort Sun Microsystems began in 2006. The implementation is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL) with a linking exception. Why there are still people that say Java is not open source or free as in free speech ? Am I missing something? Is Java still privative ?

• Can't access Windos 7 OS in Ubuntu

  When I try and Access my Windows 7 OS I get the following memo and I have no idea what to make of the code. Error mounting /dev/sda2 at /media/name/Windows7_OS: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sda2" "/media/name/Windows7_OS"' exited with non-zero exit status 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. What should I do ?

• How to boot load the kernel using EFI stub (efistub) loader?

  I have Ubuntu 14.04 running in UEFI mode as only operating system, no dual-boot here. The kernel version is 3.13.0-24-generic. There is an EFI partition. In this case the EFI partition is not at the default /dev/sda1 but at /dev/sda3 because I did actually convert BIOS mode to EFI mode. I have used the grub-efi-amd64 package, though that actually loads GRUB boot menu from UEFI firmware boot menu (UEFI boot loads \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi). I want to skip that double boot menu loading step, and boot faster, directly from UEFI into the kernel. The Ubuntu kernels since 12.10 have "Kernel EFI stub loader" feature. I know I do need to copy the Ubuntu kernel to the EFI partition (possibly rename) and create an entry in UEFI boot menu (for instance using efibootmgr). Which exact terminal commands are necessary to do this?

• Video capture Performance

  I have noticed high CPU utilization in a number of applications (except mplayer) which read from the embedded webcam on my laptop. Bizarrely CPU utilization varies proportionately to the level of illumination present. I know that that high CPU usage has nothing to do with rendering the video, as I have written a simple app using the OpenCV library to simply grab frames from the webcam, and cpu usage is still high. I think that mplayer might be using my GPU (and the other apps aren't), but since its not an issue with rendering, I dont think this explains anything. Cheese Low light --- ~12% CPU Bright Light ---- ~63% CPU Camorama Low light --- ~7% CPU Bright Light ---- ~30% CPU Opencv C++ library, (display in a single highgui window) Low light --- ~13% CPU Bright Light ---- ~40% CPU (same test on windows 7, 4-9%) Mplayer No problem, 1-2% regardless of light levels Note: If all I want't to do is capture a feed from my webcam I would use mplayer and forget about it, but I'm developing an application which uses the OpenCV to capture a video feed among other things, performance is important.

  I tried to install catalyst for my Radeon Graphics on 13.10 , but looks like everything went wrong . Now I can't install any software , and the software center says : The following packages have unmet dependencies: fglrx: Depends: libqtcore4 (>= 4:4.5.3) but 4:4.8.4+dfsg-0ubuntu18 is installed Depends: lib32gcc1 but it is not installed Depends: libc6-i386 but it is not installed xserver-xorg-video-intel: Depends: xorg-video-abi-13 but it is not installed I am a noob , thus I really don't know what to do . I tried to install lib32gcc1 and libc6-i386 via apt-get and it didn''t work also for unmet dependecies . I downloaded .deb package of libc6-i386 but I couldn't install it. any help ?

I really recommend it, specially if you work with these tools (BPEL, SOA Suite and/or OSB), if you are a SOA Architect and/or if your work is focused on production environments.This book provides valuable and useful information for monitoring and automation tasks.In the books is very clearly explained and with screenshots (which makes it even easier to read, understand and follow) how to perform several tasks that are necessary to keep a correct performance on the production environments and the subtasks that must be executed on them.The test sections on chapters 3, 10 and 13 (SOAP tests for partner links and BPEL processes, service tests on web applications, and SOAP test OSB proxy and business service endpoints) look specially interesting for me and I really liked to see that there is special emphasis on the use of WebLogic Server as well.For further information and order the book, please go to the Packt Publishing web site.

• Unity spontaneously logs out in Ubuntu 12.04

  This started happening after I upgraded from 11.10. I'm running on a Latitude 13 laptop with an Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (not Nvidia) - no proprietary drivers. It seems to happen under load, though I can't tell if the load is caused by something with this problem or by a program I'm running. I'd like to try nailing this problem. Ideally I don't want to switch to something else (at least not before knowing that that's the only way out and that it's specific to Unity and not, say, X).

• I need acpi=off to boot, but this seems to disable wifi

  To boot my computer, I have to use acpi=off in kernel options. Doing this apparently causes my wifi adapter to be switched off and prevents my mouse and USB keyboard to not work. If I change acpi=off to nomodeset, it fixes these problems. But then it sets my computer at a lower resolution. I am currently running Kubuntu 13.10, although none of the updates, starting from 12.04, changed the need for acpi=off. I assume I need acpi=off in because I have an oldish computer with an intel motherboard How can I boot without acpi=off? • Drag Gestures - fractional delta values

  I have an issue with objects moving roughly twice as far as expected when dragging them. I am comparing my application to the standard TouchGestureSample sample from MSDN. For some reason in my application gesture samples have fractional positions and deltas. Both are using same Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Input.Touch.dll, v4.0.30319. I am running both apps using standard Windows Phone Emulator. I am setting my break point immediately after this line of code in a simple Update method: GestureSample gesture = TouchPanel.ReadGesture(); Typical values in my app: Delta = {X:-13.56522 Y:4.166667} Position = {X:184.6956 Y:417.7083} Typical values in sample app: Delta = {X:7 Y:16} Position = {X:497 Y:244} Have anyone seen this issue? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

• How to deal with project managers who micromanage?

  Perhaps I'm just naive, but when I try to decipher the wall of tasks I'm targeted to do over the course of a week, I just can't help but think whoever builds the project schedule needs to get some remedial training on basic project management. For example, I am assigned 13 tasks today, the shortest lasting .13 days (default time metric in Microsoft Project), and the longest lasting .75 days. I can't help but think that it is blatant micromanagement scheduling projects in sub 10 minute intervals. The effects of management are becoming evident in slipped tasks, resource assignment exceeding capacity by a factor of two at some points in time, and spending more time clearing tasks and figuring out what comes next than actually doing work. How can I convince the project manager to create tasks with larger duration and to see the larger picture?

• Ubuntu 12.10 TexLive 2012: Latex file would not compile

  I wrote a long report with chapters using TexLiVE 2009. When I move to 12.10, the system had upgraded to Texlive 2012. However, I found that some fonts were not working, whereas they were a part of the distribution (Texlive). Therefore, I uninstalled the whole thing (TexLive) and then reinstalled. Compilation command pdflatex myreport.tex I now have the following error while compiling: This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.4-1.40.13 (TeX Live 2012/Debian) \write18 enabled kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdflatex.fmt I can't find the format file 'pdflatex.fmt'! How do I solve this issue?

  While going through the css specificity concept, I understood the fact that it is calculated as a 4 parts 1) inline (1000) 2) id (100) 3) class (10) 4) html elments (1) CSS with the highest rule will be applied to the corresponding element. I tried the following example Created more than 10 classes <div class="a1"> .... <div class="a13" id="id1"> TEXT COLOR </div> ... </div> and the css as .a1 .a2 .a3 .a4 .a5 .a6 .a7 .a8 .a9 .a10 .a11 .a12 .a13 { color : red; } #id1 { color: blue; } Now, even though in this case there are 13 classes the weight is 130. • Can't get Broadcom 43142 drivers to work after installation on 5420 Inspiron

  I'm a complete newbie to ubuntu, I've already installed and reinstalled the Broadcom driver required done a numerous amount of steps on terminal but I can't seem to get wireless working. However, my wired connection seems to work just fine. also I have tried to follow the instructions but get stuck at step number 2 when i get told "No package dpkg is available": 1) Download the file from the link 2) sudo yum install dpkg 3) mkdir BCM43142 4) dpkg-deb -x Downloads/wireless-bcm43142-dkms-6.20.55.19_amd64.deb BCM43142 5) cd BCM43142/usr/src/wireless-bcm43142-oneiric-dkms-6.20.55.19~bdcom0602.0400.1000.0400/src/wl/sys 6) sudo yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers 7) vi wl_linux.c 8) around line 43, remove the line include 9) save the file (:wq) 10) cd ../../.. 11) make Things should work, and you'll have a file called "wl.ko" in the current directory. 12) sudo yum remove broadcom-wl 13) sudo mkdir -p /lib/modules/3.5.2-3.fc17.x86_64/extra/wl 14) sudo cp wl.ko /lib/modules/3.5.2-3.fc17.x86_64/extra/wl 15) sudo depmod -a 16) sudo modprobe wl I really need help :/
