The problem is how to arrange website translation, what is the right workflow? What are the best practices for static website localization? Is it possible to arrange translation in a wiki way, where several translators could translate site pages online?

• elastic / snaking line algorithm

  Hi everyone I am making a graphics application in which I can edit a polyline by dragging the control point of it. However, I'd like to make it a bit easier to use by making it elastic; When dragging a control point, instead of moving a single point, I'd like the points within a certain distance of that point to be moved as well, depending on how hard the control point is 'pulled'. Does anyone know a simple algorithm for this? It may be quite rudimentary, as the primary requirement is speed. Actually, knowing how to call such behaviour would also be nice, so I can look it up on google. I tried 'snaking' line, but that seems to refer to active contours, which isn't what I'm looking for. • Why does the Scala compiler disallow overloaded methods with default arguments?

  While there might be valid cases where such method overloadings could become ambiguous, why does the compiler disallow code which is neither ambiguous at compile time nor at run time? Example: // This fails: def foo(a: String)(b: Int = 42) = a + b def foo(a: Int) (b: Int = 42) = a + b // This fails, too. Even if there is no position in the argument list, // where the types are the same. def foo(a: Int) (b: Int = 42) = a + b def foo(a: String)(b: String = "Foo") = a + b // This is OK: def foo(a: String)(b: Int) = a + b def foo(a: Int) (b: Int = 42) = a + b // Even this is OK. def foo(a: Int)(b: Int) = a + b def foo(a: Int)(b: String = "Foo") = a + b val bar = foo(42)_ // This complains obviously ... Are there any reasons why these restrictions can't be loosened a bit? Especially when converting heavily overloaded Java code to Scala default arguments are a very important and it isn't nice to find out after replacing plenty of Java methods by one Scala methods that the spec/compiler imposes arbitrary restrictions.

  There are plenty of question asking Which Programming Language Should I Learn? but I have not found an answer yet to the question what really motivates people to learn a specific new language?. There are the people who think they should learn a new language every year for educational purpose. How do they decide on the languages to be learned? Then I guess there are people who learn a new language because people around them told it is a fun language and they can build nice things with it. Of course if the current job requires it people would learn a new language but I think if the language seems to have a potential to earn money (e.g. There are plenty of jobs in Java or ObjectiveC can be used to write apps for the iPhone and make money). So why are you learning a new language or why have you learned the languages you know?

  someone wrote a nice framework for developing html5 3d engine. It's GPL/MIT licensed. Do you think it's a good idea to build upon it, and then repackage it and sell it as a service? For eg the framework lets you build 3d environments. so I build on it, maybe add a few features like characters and music in the environment, and turn it into an online game. Is it a feasible idea? Of course, part of the GPL license says that all source code has to be visible to end users. Assuming the web is a winner take all market based on first mover advantage, why care about hiding the source code? It's the product that's being sold that counts.

  I am looking to make a horizontal layout website but having issues with the display: inline rule acting strangely. It seems to be tailored towards inline navigational s, which is nice, but it is causing me massive problems. • Different Rendering of SimpleModal on IE7 and Chrome

  Hey Guys I tried out Simple Modal for my modal dialog needs. The jQuery $(function() { $('#showDialog').click(function() { $('<div><p> Click Here! </p></div>').modal({ overlayClose: true, opacity: 30 }) }); }); The CSS was as follows: #simplemodal-overlay { background-color: #000; } #simplemodal-container { background-color: #333; border: 8px solid #444; padding: 12px; } In IE6 and 7, it displays a nice, very transparent, gray overlay with a dark small box in the middle with the text 'Click Here!'. But in CHROME (4.0.249.43) I get a dark black overlay with 100% opacity. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

• VisualStudio: Toggle Archive Attribute When Saving File?

  We use Tortoise CVS in out shop, but in my last job we used Visual SourceSafe. VSS is generally a pile, but it did have one nice feature. You could right-click on a branch and ask it for a list of all the files you had checked-out. As far as I can tell there is no similar feature in CVS. So what I'm looking for is some kind of VS plusgin that will automatically reset (turn off) the archive attribute when saving a file. Then I can recursively dir to find the files I have checked-out. Does anyone know of a VS plugin or something I can do to get this behavior? Or is there something else I can do in CVS to get my ultimately desired result?

All the choices should be unique, so once the option is selected in one combobox, it should be removed from others. • How can I output the fitted values?

  Sorry if this is a novice question, but I don't understand it. I am fitting a sigmoid curve to my data with glm(). This works, I can plot the output and I see a nice sigmoid curve. However, how do I get R to return the final values it has fit? • Attach an HREF and a class to an img link generated by the PhotoSlider script?

  Hi folks, I'm using the very nice PhotoSlider script from http://opiefoto.com/articles/photoslider to create a slide show of images for one of my clients. This script replaces a previous hand-coded Javascript solution that allowed for the large image to be clicked resulting in a lightbox modal popup showing the full-size version of the clicked picture. Of course the client insists that this functionality remain intact, but the HTML code for the large image is generated on-the-fly by the PhotoSlider script itself. This means I'll need to modify the script slightly to attach a class ("lightbox") and an href (or just a click event, whichever makes more sense), but I'm not quite sure how best to accomplish this. I figure the event and class will have to be attached each time a thumbnail is clicked, but if this isn't the best way to do it any advice will be appreciated. The script is implemented into my page as can be seen here, without the click or class. I'd really appreciate any assistance stackoverflowites can offer. Thanks in advance!

  I am using jQuery to load ina background image that fills the page width / height. I have looked at a few other threads on Stack that suggest its not possible as a body element defined in css, but in this scenario the BG image is being loaded in by jQuery. How would I go about adding a fade in to this code to bring the image in with a nice fadein?

  i have 2 windows: window A and window B. -window A and window B have same domain -window A and window B doesn't have any parent window. first question: -is it possible for window A to get a reference of window B? second question: -what is the most elegant way to make window A notify something to window B? (modern browser supporting HTML5 restriction is not a problem) 2 ways i am aware of doing this: -messaging by server: where window B regulary asks the server if window A has notified something -messaging by local data (HTML5): when window A wants to notify something it changes the local data, window B regulary checks the local data for any change. but the 2 ways are not so elegant. for example it would be nice to get an reference of window B and using window.postMessage() (HTML5) ultimate goal is to make something like facebook where if you open 4 facebook tabs, and chat in one tab, the chat is actualized on every facebook tab, which is neat! thanks folks!

• WebView with NSShadow slowdown

  I have a webview that shows some animated boxes, but it slows down and lags horribly when I put a drop shadow in the view. Without the shadow, the webview contents animate smoothly. I achieved a similar effect as safari/chrome when you do a elastic scroll with the touchpad. Looks nice! But doesnt run as smooth as in my inspirations. • (When) Does hardware, especially the CPU(s), deliver wrong results?

  What I'm talking about is: Is it possible that under certain circumstances the CPU "buggs" and suddenly responses 1+1=2? In which parts of the computer can that happen (HDD, RAM, Mainboard)? What could be the causes? Bad quality? Overheating? Does that even happen? When yes, how frequently? If everything is okay with the CPU (not a single fault in production, good temperature), can that still happen sometimes? What would be the results of, let's say one to three wrong computations? This is programming related as it would be nice to know if you can even rely on the hardware to return the right results.

I know about some suspicious ways to do this by styling visited links and then sneaking on computed style attribute, but it's more of a hack, Mozilla and maybe other are planning to crack down on this, as it might be abused. But I need this to allow users more integration with their identity providers, like: Have a Google account? ~ load contacts for sharing from Google Contacts API Have an Yahoo account? ~ load contacts for sharing from Yahoo Contacts API none of the above? show no link I don't want to provide all these options to all visitors, would be nice if I can detect the account, and provide integration only in that case.

• python open does not create file if it doesnt exist

  I am using Python. What is the best way to open a file in rw if it exists, or if it does not, then create it and open it in rw? From what i read, file = open('myfile.dat', 'rw') should do this, no? it is not working for me (python 2.6.2) and im wondering if it is a version problem, or not supposed to work like that or what. The bottom line is, i just need a solution for the problem. I am curious about the other stuff, but all i need is a nice way to do the opening part. thanks in advance

  With c++, Is there a way to get a derived class to inherit its own static initializer? • Simple Version Contol

  We work on a lot of small website projects. There are three of us in different physical locations. I would like a system that is very simple where the main concern is checking out and checking in web files (php, css, images, js) so that we don't accidentally overwrite each other's code. We also need a way to synch our local file systems with the files on the webserver and with each other. Rolling back to older versions is nice but features like branching and merging are not important. It seems like GIT may be overkill for our purpose or maybe not. Can you recommend anything?
