• How to revert to Eclipse's old behavior when double-clicking on frames or windows, in Juno?

  I find Eclipse Juno very counter-intuitive. In my workspace, I used to just have the package view at the left, my code on the right, and whenever I'm printing something in the console, that's only when the console frame shows up from the bottom right. When you double click on a particular window, it either only goes fullscreen within Eclipse, or back to its original size together with the size of the other frames. In Juno, however, it seems that frames are put on layers on top of each other. When I print something to the console, the output frame only shows up as a small, useless square to my right. When I double-click, it goes full screen. When I double-click again, it occupies the full right frame, hiding my code. I double-click again and it goes full screen, then it double-clicks before it shares the right frame with my code on top of it. Then when I minimize it, it goes to the side. Any way to go back to the good old days of Eclipse? Thanks.

• What Am I doing for my 5 months 1 week old baby for his first cold?

  With my limited friends circle with babies, I heard that babies in their fifth month usually gets affected by cold all of a sudden. This is unavoidable and I feel it is good for the babies as they start developing their immune system right on. We usually take our son for a small walk so that he is able to explore the world out there. We have been taking him for a stroll almost everyday since we was 3 months old. But only now he is getting his first cold. So things happen only now I think. Till that day I had somehow brought some routine for him for his feed and naps during day time. Night time is still sleepless ones anyway. So when he first got his cold, that night it went on as usual getting up every few hours. From the next day on, he stopped feeding at the usual time. In the night he goes for 8-10 hours between feeds but still wakes up every two hours and cries for about 10 minutes and when we lift him for sometime, he goes back to sleep. Now to the point what all to expect: * Babies starts feeding frequently * Babies spit up increases * They dislike the food they liked before (we have just started solid foods as per our pediatricians advice) * Since they cannot breathe properly, they cannot sleep for a long time *Pees and poops less frequently. What all we did for our baby to make him comfortable during this time: * Feed the baby less quantity and more frequently whenever they expect to feed (Do not follow the schedule) * When the quantity is less, spit ups is also less * If the baby does not like the food (vegetable or fruit), avoid them till they get back to normal * Try to elevate their head while sleeping ( we used the cradle – sitting position, bouncer, car seat and finally all four sides we placed firm pillows so that he does not roll and kept a pillow for his head till his hip – this one is recommended usually but we have an eye on him always) * No need for any medicines – it will take a week for them to get back to normal whether or not we gives medicines * We applied home made Cold Reliever (heat 2 teaspoons of coconut oil with a small camphor piece till the camphor disappears – then cool the mixture) on his chest, back, neck and feet and covered the feet with socks in the nights * Bathe him everyday – hot (that your baby can withstand) *  Whenever possible give him a steam bath (open the hot showers for sometime in the bathroom and close the doors. When the steam is bearable, close the shower and take the baby inside the bathroom for sometime) * Also use a bulb syringe provided in the hospital to clear the nose (use some saline water drops for ease) * Cuddle him when he cries But please do take him to his doctor if he has fever and other symptoms other than cold or the cold persists for more than 5 – 7 days.   I changed the disk on my laptop and installed Ubuntu on the new disk. Old disk had 12.04 upgraded to 12.10 on it. Now I want to copy my old keyring with WiFi passwords, ftp passwords for nautilus and ssh key passphrases. I have the whole data from the old disk available (is now a USB disk and I did not delete the old data yet or do anything with it - I could still put it in the laptop and boot from it like nothing happened). On the new disc that is now in my laptop, I have installed 12.10 with the same password, user-id and username as on the old disk. Then I copied a few important config files from the old disk (e.g. ~/.firefox/, ~/.mozilla, ~/.skype and so on, which all worked fine... except for the key ring: The old methods of just copying ~/.gconf/... and ~/.gnome2/keyrings won't work. Did I miss something? 1. Edit: I figure one needs to copy files not located in the users home directory as well. I copied the whole old /home/confus (which is my home directory) to the fresh install to no effect. That whole copy is now reverted to the fresh install's home directory, so my /home/confus is as it was the after fresh install. 2. Edit: The folder /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections seems to be the place for WiFi passwords. Could be that /usr/share/keyrings is important as well for ssh keys - that's the only sensible thing that a search came up with: find /usr/ -name "*keyring* 3. Edit: Still no ssh and ftp passwords from the keyring. What I did: Convert old hard drive to usb drive Put new drive in the laptop and installed fresh version of 12.10 there (same uid, username and passwort) Booted from old hdd via USB and copied its /etc/NetwrokManager/system-connections, ~/.gconf/ and ~/.gnome2/keyrings, ~/.ssh over to the new disk. Confirmed that all keys on the old install work Booted from new disk Result: No passphrase for ssh keys, no ftp passwords in keyring. At least the WiFi passwords are migrated. 4. Edit: Boutny! • Using my old PC as a web/file server?

  I have an old desktop computer that I've been trying to sell for AGES. I guess nobody is looking for computers because it was advertised at a dirt cheap price on craigslist, local papers, etc. Anyways, I was wondering if it would be worth it to set it up as a home file server, a web dev server (I have a web host for actual production use), and maybe host a few server applications (ex: ventrillo). The computer is actually an old Dell that I cannibalized after the motherboard being destroyed by lightning, so it has fairly new parts in it. The specs are: P4 3.4GHz w/ HT and Artic Cooling Freezer 7 3GB DDR2 533 RAM 80GB hdd (will upgrade the hard drive if it's even worth using as a server) basic dvd rom 430 Watt Thermaltake PSU (it might be important to note that it is only 60% efficiency) ATI Radeon x600 256MB Antec 300 case It's not a really beefy machine, I just can't see giving it away or putting it in the corner to just collect dust. I have Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and I am confident in my skills in operating most Linux operating systems. I'd also be using it to tinker with when I learn new things in my server admin classes (I'm finishing my 2nd year in college at the moment so I'm still learning) Also, my house is quite old and the electrical wiring is pretty poor (it MIGHT be up to code, then again, where I live most people don't even know what regulations are or let alone know how to spell it...) Would it be safe to leave it running all day and is it going to run up my electric bill because of the PSU efficiency? I only have 5mbit cable internet, but I won't be running very bandwidth intense services on it so it should be ok. I should elaborate on why I am concerned about the power. The circuits should be fine, but I'm more concerned about fire hazard. What is the likelihood that the server could cause an electrical fire? Again, thank you all for the feedback!

  System: Windows XP Home Summary: Some scheduled task is still being started by Windows, but I can't find it, nor determine where its configuration has been stored. This is turning into a mystery for me... I set up a Windows XP Home machine to run a task at 7:00 AM, using the Task manager. This was a clean install, no users defined, so you got straight to the desktop after starting the machine. The filesystem uses NTFS. Later on, I needed to introduce users, so I created one (named Sam) with administrator privileges. After this I noticed that the scheduled task failed, most likely due to privilege errors (i.e. can't write to a network drive). So I want to delete the old task, and add it again with the correct user credentials. However.... I can't find the old task!! I know it is still being executed at 7:00 AM, but there's no mention anywhere on the system of this task. I've looked in c:\windows\tasks for .job files, but there's only the "MP Scheduled Scan.job" from Security Essentials. I've searched the whole disk for mention of the batch file that is being run, but can't find it. So why is this old task still running, and more importantly, why can't I find it? Would it have something to do with introducing users on XP?

  I'm currently developing my Django projects on both: Mac OS X 10.5, 32 bit Ubuntu Server 9.10 64 bits (1 CPU, 512MB RAM) Both of the above OS are using: Python 2.6.4 Django 1.1.1 MySQL 5.1 Running 12 tests for one of my application take: Mac: 57.513s Linux: 30.935s EDIT: Mac Hardware Spec: MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB RAM I'm running the Ubuntu OS on the same mac above through VMware Fusion 2.0.6. You might argue that Ubuntu Server 64 bits is faster but I have observed a similar speed difference on Ubuntu 8.10 32 bits desktop edition. Even if I turn off my linux VM and other mac applications, I still experience the slowness. Has anyone else experienced this Django test speed difference across those two OS?

  Given a Cocoa application which runs on Mac OS X 10.7 and later: What is the best way to check, at runtime, if your app is currently running on a Mac with at least one retina display attached? If checking for this sort of thing is just really wrong-headed, I fully welcome a well-reasoned explanation of why. But I'd still like to know :). It seems likely you could just do a check specifically for the new Mac Book Pro "Retina" hardware (the only Mac at this time which currently has a retina display), but ideally, I'd really prefer a more general/generic/future-proof way to check than this. Ideally, I'd like to know how to detect the retina display, not the specific Mac model which currently happens to ship with a retina display.

• Can I install windows on an SSD and access data from my old windows HDD?

  I purchased new computer components, switching my hardware from AMD and Radeon to Intel and Nvidia. I kept components from my old computer like the powersupply and two HDDs. Everything appeared to install correctly and the system booted into the BIOS just fine (after a brief snafu with the CPU fan). My goal was to use the two harddrives and just be able to turn on the computer and load up my old windows install with all the files, programs, and documents. I expected to have to call Microsoft to re-register the windows install for the new hardware (since I had to do that last time I upgraded w/ the same windows version). When the computer attempts to boot into windows it briefly flashes a bluescreen and then restarts. System recovery gives a message something like "BadDriver Failover" something something. I assume this is because it's trying to use amd drivers for an intel chipset (or something...?) and I've been as-yet unsuccessful in getting it to boot into my old windows partition. SO! I decided eff it, maybe I'll go visit my nearest Micro Center and buy a 200 GB SSD, install windows onto that, and then... be able to access just the contents of both of my other harddrives? I don't intend on running any of the programs but there were some saved files I would like to salvage from the 500 GB harddrive, The 1.5 TB harddrive only had files on it, no OS or applications so I'd also expect to still be able to access it. Is this possible? Can I install the SSD and only format/install windows onto it and still access the contents from my two transferred-over drives?

• If we develop iOS app, and submit a new version to the App Store, it won't have a risk of having the old version pulled out?

  As an iOS developer, is it true that once we get an app into the App Store, we can quite safely update any new version and the worst it can happen is that the new version is rejected, but the old version in general will always stay, unless there was something egregious that Apple didn't catch the first time? (and what if a method in a class is deprecated and later even removed? Won't iOS 8, say, in the future not be able to run the old app?)

  I have old-domain.com which I want to migrate to new-domain.com. However, the content on the old domain is, well, old. And I'm currently in the process of redesigning my whole site. My idea is to do a permanent (301) redirect from old-domain.com to new-domain.com so that search engines know about the new domain and forget about the old one. But since the content is old I was thinking to do a temporary (302) redirect from new-domain.com to new-domain.com/old/ until the new content/site is ready to be published. Is this, for some reason, a bad idea? Or there's nothing wrong with it? One last thing... If I go with this, what should I do when the new content is ready? Should I just remove the 302 redirect and that's it, or should I do something else to notify search engines that the temporary redirect is over?

• Getting back the old alt-tab windows switching behavior in Windows 7?

  When you run more than 6 applications on Windows 7 and you press alt-TAB, icons representing the first 6 applications and the desktop appear on the first row of the grid and you can cycle with alt-TAB-TAB... through the 6 most recently used windows the usual way, but the 7th and other less recently used windows don't follow the same rules. Instead they get grouped together according to their application but disregarding whether they were recently used or not. This new behavior is mentioned here. I am very used to the old way of cycling and the new system is driving me crazy. I tend to have 20 or so windows open at one time and I frequently need to alt-tab to the 7th or 8th window on the stack but it doesn't work the same anymore. Does anyone know how to put back the old behavior, so that alt-tab-tab-tab... goes through the whole list in most-recent to least-recent order?

• Can't set up printing from Mac OS X (10.5.7) to an HP PSC 2410 shared from PC running Ubuntu 9.10

  I've got an HP PSC 2410 printer shared from a fresh Ubuntu 9.10 installation. I'm able to send documents to this printer over the network from another Ubuntu machine. But so far, I haven't been able to find a setup where I can send documents to that printer from a MacBook running 10.5.7. On the Mac side, when setting things up, I go into System Prefs Print & Fax, click on the "+" mark, select "IP", pick "IPP", enter the IP address of the Ubuntu box, leave the queue blank, enter the Name and location, and I think it's when I get to the "Print Using" (driver selection) part that I'm running into issues. If I use "Auto Select", it defaults to "Generic PostScript Printer", which I doubt the PSC 2410 is (and sure enough, if I print, the jobs don't go through). If I try "Select a driver to use...", there's not an option for an HP PSC 2400. This seems a little odd: I can plug the printer directly into one of our Macs and it immediately figures out the driver and I can print no problem, but that's apparently the way things work. So, that leaves one option: "Other", which, when selected, brings up a dialog apparently for the purpose of manually locating a driver. I've tried visiting HP's web site. They have drivers for earlier versions of Mac OS X, but state that after 10.4, Mac OS X should just come with the relevant drivers. I've also tried setting things up by interacting with the CUPS server on the Mac through a browser: I go to http://localhost:631/, select "Add New Printer", pick "Internet Printing Protocol (http)" for the Device selection, enter "http://ubuntu.machine.ip.address:631/printers/hp-psc-2400-series" for the Device URI, select "HP" for Make, and then on the next screen, we're back to the problem where the PSC 2400 just doesn't show up. There's an option to "provide a PPD file", which I assume would be the printer driver I can't find. A Google search for "HP PSC 2410 ppd Leopard" doesn't seem to yield much other than a reminder that the printer is supposed to just work out of the box on Leopard. A local search for ".ppd" or "2410" on either Mac also doesn't yield anything that looks like a relevant print driver. I'm totally stuck at this point. Any advice?

  Strange problem about Ethernet speed: recently we bought an i7 core computer running Win7 64 bit with an onboard Gigabit Ethernet controller (Realtek PCIe Gbit Ethernet Family controller). Connecting this new fast pc directly to our brand new ASUS Gigabit Ethernet router via CAT6 cable(!) shows up the adapter status (see picture attached) only 100mbit, while the router is capable of 1000 mbit. More facts: Connecting an 8 year old IBM notebook with gigabit ethernet to the same cable end shows 1.0 Gbit connection in its adapter status.   Hello everyone, I've had a headache of a weekend after upgrading to the latest firmware for my wrt54g. Suffice it to say I'm not satisfied with the latest version. Now I'm looking around for the previous version of the firmware out there on the interwebs and am having trouble. I noticed that linksys at one point had an ftp site: ftp://ftp.linksys.com. There you could find old firmware for your device. It now appears defunct. Does anyone know where I could find old firmware versions for my wrt54g router?
